They tried it once before but the Jews were really offended by the Gastopo sirens. That was in the 60s. Them Jews were highly upset about the memories of the Holocaust associated with those sirens. My strongest recommendation is that ALL EMERGENCY SERVICES PERSONNEL GO ON STRIKE UNTIL THEY CHANGE THEIR MINDS ABOUT CHANGING THE SIRENS. But on the other hand, this is another form of GLOBALIZATION and MILITARILIZING THE POLICE FORCE. Now as we all know that ISRAEL is training the American police Forces to become an occupational FORCE like they did in Palestine.
Soft sirens will not make people get out of the way especially in crowded nyc areas. The loud sirens is what gives urgency and tells people get out of the way.
Laws to get out of the way of emergency vehicles with sirens and/or rights flashing. A lot of notification of fines for not doing so on local news, simply needs to be enforced on people breaking that law.
New York's previous siren sounds, as in the very beginning of this video, HAVE been changed to the high/low Euro siren, which is much more pleasant. It's supposed to be law, that vehicles and pedestrian traffic get out of the way of emergency vehicles w/sirens and/or lights flashing. That law simply needs to be enforced. What's weird, is that London seems to have switched from the nicer Euro style to the old NYC annoying type of siren, like the siren in the very beginning of this video. Patients would sometimes ask the ambulance to turn off that older type of siren, as it causes a lot of anxiety.
Coming from a person who drives emergency vehicles fire truck and ambulance I think that is a stupid idea the whiny complaining people what want the best response if it was them in the back of the rig or house on fire and the siren games attention and makes people move a European siren sounds horrible and does not get the same response as a regular siren people in New York should just quit complaining and go to hell

Yeah let’s remove the exact purpose of these sirens what a good idea... I’m sure they will be laughing when one of there family members needs to be taken to the ER but nobody will move because they can’t hear the sirens
The nypd uses a federal signal smart siren, which already has the “hi-lo” tone ability. They just usually program them to not work, and use a hyper yelp instead. Personally, I think hi lo is not attention grabbing enough. I also think this is extremely contradictory. The FDNY used the manual tone on a PA300 siren for years, then switched to a fake q siren tone, which is WAY more annoying/ attention grabbing 🤷🏼♂️
"Alarming and disturbing" 🤣 seriously that the whole point. I always thought we USA have the best and effective sirens. These new bubble wrapped world is going crazy.
The problem with NYC may be all the concrete structures, which reflect and echo sounds and thus prolong and even exacerbate the noise issue. The scientific evidence of sirens and pitch and lights is lacking, but does point in the direction of less sound. Very high sounds with flashing lights startle people into making bad driving decisions. It could be abrupt braking, which creates dangerous situations. Often in Europe you will experience emergency vehicles that use only the lights, and turn on sirens at intersections and then immediately off again after an intersection. Due to the sound-proofing of modern cars, lower, rumbling sirens are also better than high-pitched sirens. I live very close to fire and police (neighbors) and a hospital. The sirens are also annoying in Europe.
I am from the US, lived in Europe for 6 months (Barcelona) and I personally like the US sirens (specifically a mechanical Q siren but then again I’m a firefighter) better than European sirens. This is a drastic idea you guys are proposing, I’m not worried about it because it’d mean a change in the fire service and that is not something we like to do ;)
So; The faster you get out of the way and let them pass, the sooner it's gone, it's ment to sound ''GET THE F OUT OF MY WAY PEOPLE NEED ME'' ... Besides if you live in a city like NY no siren should keep you awake. I live near a main street where any emergency vehicle drive's past cause it's a main street, it's what I expect to hear within a city, if you don't like it.... move on.
"...complaints about noise pollution" give me a break. If you don't like sirens, move out of the city. The American style sirens are fine, and I'm a European. Actually, here in Norway the sirens sounds closer to the US ones than the EU ones.
As a tourist, whenever I’m in the states or other countries that use this siren, I love it. Feels like I’m in an American action movie. Don’t change it. And oh btw, in London they actually use the “American” siren.
I’m sorry, you stand next to an ambulance in UK for few seconds and you’re going deaf. That thing is so loud, I can hear it across the town. Although that is good, because you can hear them from far away when in a car. On another hand, when I lived in Europe for some time I remember hearing the ambulance once it was really close to me, unlike in UK.
Only in New York can you have people complaining about sirens which are built to be loud because people don't know how to move out of the way, in a city that's usually almost as loud as the sirens.
Jesus really? Whats next? Somebody who gently knocks on the window of every car in front of the emergency vehicle and whispers gently for them to please move if it wouldn't be an inconvenience? I swear this country is just racing to the bottom.
The author obviously hasn't been to London for the last nearly 40 Years. We have used electronic sirens since the early 1980s. They work well, leave them.
I hope they know I watched so many videos of fdny rescue 1 which is stationed in Manhattan it's blaring federal Q doesn't get people out of the way but they think a much quieter siren will be more effective you have got to be joking.
The euro sirens have a huge benefit, they are far easier to tell which direction they are coming from. American sirens are a single tone that makes it hard to tell which direction it's coming from, euro sirens are non complimentary tones (which is why it sounds 'off') so that you can tell direction far easier.
“To eliminate some of the noise pollution” I have lived in NYC all my life and that is the dumbest thing I’ve heard, you live in a MAJOR city key word MAJOR like if you don’t like it move your living in a million dollar condo in Manhattan. Don’t like it move to Long Island or something.
When you live here your whole life it becomes just another sound that you learn to ignore, its like the refrigerator hum that you never notice untill someone points out that your refrigerator has a hum
The UK has used American sirens for 30 years (except for a few special units). France and Germany use the two tone sirens, German Fire engines are exceptionally loud, nothing soft about them.
Start by turning the siren and lights off when you're on the scene if not needed for safety. Ambulances in the Netherlands turn off the siren when close to the destination to prevent unwanted attention, and the lights usually go out too after arrival. Much calmer. Keeping everything on is just feeding unrest. Police and the Fire Department also turn everything off on scene unless needed.
The people find the American siren “too alarming”.... isn’t that literally what a siren is for? To be alarming...?

I live in upstate NY, and I love sirens. They don’t bother me at all, and I love hearing a trooper or a fire truck blast down the main road with their sirens on. And hey, it works. I’ve never seen a person not get out of the way for one of them
this is stupid. People barely get out of the way when they have Wail, Yelp, & Phaser. What makes you think people will get out of the way when it's on a less effective tone?
If they won't get out of the way either way, then we might as well have a less annoying siren.
A Olson get a Federal Q! People won’t walk in-front of the ambulances.
A Olson If they won’t get out of the way, get something louder: a train horn
Yeah this is dumb I sincerely doubt anyone is gonna move out of the way I'd be like wtf is behind me an ice cream truck?
Well, kid, it seems like in most European cities it's used, and their population is not falling. So it seems like it works.
@@CityWhisperer well I live in America so I feel like it would take a minute for people to really accept it

Mikel Sopelana Durango if u do a quick google search u will see that "urban" response times in US are 2 mins faster on avg then UK
Yeah why dont we replace it with a classical song so people can sleep better? The siren has to be alarming because people need to hear it from the distance and give way to the ambulance, fire brigade, etc how about installing double glass windows in your house?
Its SIMPLE for daytime have the louder annoying siren and the "EURO" one for nighttime.. People who've lived in NYC know this is best!! 😉😎
Euro sirens aren't any quieter..just "Frencher."
@@bcubed72 yeah ..lol I can sleep through those sirens but not the ones in nyc
At night the lights work very well, sirens are rarely used at night in Sweden, except when there is an intersection and traffic is not giving way. As that time some idiots crossed the road outside the fire station between the fire trucks and the ambulance. They had the "attention idiot"-siren blasted at them from two meters. They sure got out of the way fast, and the sound scared me who was 20 meter behind the ambulance.
I came here to confirm what John Mulaney said.

You can, but you won't.
im german and i loved the sound of the sirens in new york. i also really like the sound of our sirens in germany, but i dont really know if its a good idea to change something that has burned into the minds of the people in new york for that long and it just seems so weired...
Exactly. People will be so confused by the change they will forget to move out the way. This is so stupid
@@bohemoth1 or just refuse to respond and make the people of NYC want to here the sirens
bohemoth1 Yeah! And the JEWISH ZIONIST BANKERS control the SUN AND THE WEATHER!!

Tbh... Real European sirens are a lot louder
Now start using the Metric system like everyone else.
Where I live in North Carolina my school teaches both metric and imperial. But mostly imperial.
Christian Maldonado I think most schools in the US teach the metric system
Yeah, let’s keep the US siren

It doesn't matter what tone you use. A siren is gonna be loud and annoying no matter what. That's it's purpose so you hear it.
But i prefer US Sirens compared to say england or germany
@@VideoSpectator1223 I wish I could find a European low-high siren!

Colby Thurston the siren they showed was French, each country has different sirens in Europe. I agree a lot of them are pathetic
People are getting too soft and triggered these days..
From restricting people from clapping, to now the sirens change.
@citiZen I don't think you understand my statement.
I was saying that people are triggered, *not me..*
Better getting triggered over a siren than gender or race. I need a rest from those two topics and this could work perfect.
You completely forgot to inform that the european high low siren is also better. Lower pitches carry further in the air and the european one can be noticed from almost twice as far as the US continuous one.
NYC is becoming so wack I want 80's & 90's NYC back.
They let gentrification take over. What a shame

Unknown New York Sirens should be “YO DEADASS B IM GONNA NEED YOU TO MOVE REAL QUICK”
The Texan siren
Yes, let's make sirens LESS alarming, that'll get people to know there's an emergency!
Yeah let’s remove the exact purpose of these sirens what a good idea...
I’m sure they will be laughing when one of there family members needs to be taken to the ER but nobody will move because they can’t hear the sirens
it might get them to act more "rationally" 🤷
The new Booap Booap Siren sound is scary as hell it feels like an Apache Helicopter ready to rain hell down the street
Rumble siren.
A DEPRESSED GUY SMOKING A CIGARETTE IS NOT A MOVIE.
The siren need to stay loud so with people playing music in their car can actually hear the siren
No need to flex your wackass knowledge of cop siren controls bro

There’s no “European siren”. Norwegian emergency vehicles sound like the NYC ones.

There are "European sirens", but not every country has them.
Norway is not in the EU duh

Even if these sirens are loud people are too ignorant to move out of the way
"Alarming and disturbing" 🤣 seriously that the whole point.
I always thought we USA have the best and effective sirens.
These new bubble wrapped world is going crazy.
Why should a siren arlarm someone 200m away its only for alarming the close traffic and therefor IT does not to be as loud as possible
In comparison the US sirens are poorly designed and have to compensate their lack with volume.
You always thought, the USA have the best and effectice sirens?
Let me guess ... You are from the USA? 🤔🤭

When I was a kid and heard the European sirens I'd jump outta my skin.
Less alarming wtf you talking about

If they remove nypd and fdny sirens I am going to be pissed, that's a reason why I love nyc
Ikr we barely see crown Vic taxis in NYC now days
I‘m not murican but I enjoyed hearing the NYC sirens when I was there. They sound awesome between those high buildings.
Dont forget people...only a good looking depressed French guy smoking a cigarette, can drive the ambulances.
I am from the US, lived in Europe for 6 months (Barcelona) and I personally like the US sirens (specifically a mechanical Q siren but then again I’m a firefighter) better than European sirens. This is a drastic idea you guys are proposing, I’m not worried about it because it’d mean a change in the fire service and that is not something we like to do ;)
It’s gentrifications at its finest, even the sirens aren’t safe 🚨
“Too alarming” I mean...that’s their purpose
Sounds like they want kids to come out and buy some ice cream
NYC will never be the same without the classic sirens
Don't get how this is going to work European sirens are Annoying
So; The faster you get out of the way and let them pass, the sooner it's gone, it's ment to sound ''GET THE F OUT OF MY WAY PEOPLE NEED ME'' ... Besides if you live in a city like NY no siren should keep you awake. I live near a main street where any emergency vehicle drive's past cause it's a main street, it's what I expect to hear within a city, if you don't like it.... move on.
Wtf Oh yea lower the sirens so a victim in an ambulance can die in traffic. perfect right?
Europe uses them and everything is fine here, what are you on about?
The us sirens are poorly designed and compensate it with volume.
I like the idea, but it's called an Alarm so shouldn't it be alarming?
Use softer tones. Yeah that’s gonna help the problem of emergency crews not getting through traffic…
I always thought the American sirens were a bit LESS irritating.
The slower cadence doesn't wake me up as easily.
I have to cover my ears every time a police car or ambulance goes past in England because it’s so freaking loud
Yes because England uses basically the same sirens compared to NYC if think what they meant by “European sirens” was French or German sirens
@@PannierLaw If a UK fire engine or European hi/lo air horn went by, this person would also cover their ears as they are also loud
The siren at the start is a UK siren and I'm in London and 0:02 that siren is on the ambulance in the UK
People find alarms, alarming? Hmmm. We need to dive deep into how this happened.
Idk our American one is alarming but the European one is more depressing or disturbing if you ask me 🤷🏼♀️
That are aware that ambulances and emergency vehicles within The UK also use similar sirens to The US, right?
I was thinking this and isn't it all emergency vehicles
“...other’s find the us sirens sound alarming and disturbing”
isn’t that the whole purpose of sirens?
They sound like an air strike alarm and you can't distinguish where it's coming from.
"Others find the sirens alarming" isnt that kind of the point?
if there even people go across the street when a frickin ambulance is trying to make his way to the accident, the alarm cannot be alarming enough.
"They're saving our lives but they're doing it TOO LOUD"
The thing the typical martinhorn which most people just name the European style siren, should be exactly as loud as a q siren I think
@@ccalmanii5225 a Martinhorn is even louder
People are getting assulted and robbed but changing the sound of the sirens is important. Ok New York
PLEASE DO NOT DO IT!!! I live in Germany and we have the problem that nobody hears the siren so we are stuck in traffic... that really costs live
what? I don't really have trouble although we only have the electronic sirens
Sirens are literally meant to be loud and alarming. Plus Euro sirens sound like trash.
There are a lot of different sirens here in Europe. If you don't like one of them that's ok, but don't say that every siren is bad.

If sirens are annoying you then leave the CITY. Go live in the woods.
The euro sirens have a huge benefit, they are far easier to tell which direction they are coming from.
American sirens are a single tone that makes it hard to tell which direction it's coming from, euro sirens are non complimentary tones (which is why it sounds 'off') so that you can tell direction far easier.
And then they get old of the new ones and start complaining again itll be a endless cycle
Lol and in europe we want the American sirens 😅
We have it in UK

When you live here your whole life it becomes just another sound that you learn to ignore, its like the refrigerator hum that you never notice untill someone points out that your refrigerator has a hum
The UK has used American sirens for 30 years (except for a few special units). France and Germany use the two tone sirens, German Fire engines are exceptionally loud, nothing soft about them.
some German fire apparatus and EMS units use wail and yelp as well - illegally.
