@@therealjonsmith1Not at the moment. I play at church mainly. I definitely would like to play more. I've been out of the drumming game for quite sometime. I've been inspired by you. You have such a good studio pocket to your drumming. I love your gear and setup as well! I miss playing brother.
Thank you Marcello! Well, I just do what I do..you know. I'd be honored if anyone could pick up something from all this. That would be cool! Btw, what kinds of things do you teach?

Josh! Thanks man. Hey, that sounds like a great opportunity! A ton of experience and good times too :) What show are you playing and any cool locations?
Appreciate the good word Earl! Well, that comes from working and living in Nashville almost two decades ✌️🤓 Building this thing and again, thank you for the support. Btw, is there anything you’d like to see?
@@therealjonsmith1 I have a question, is this (in the video) your home studio or a Nashville studio? What is your home studio setup? That makes for a good video. Happy Monday!
It looks like you're playing the hi-hats fairly aggressively, but at the same time, you don't appear to be really hitting them that hard. Can you describe your approach?
Hey Ryan, I can def see it looks like I'm smacking them but I'm not really haha. I try to play very deliberately [as most of my favorite drummers do JR, Paul Leim, etc. / did - Porcaro, etc.]. I try to play as little as possible to get the songs across. Also, I may have played a couple ridiculous things I didn't play on the released single. Btw, the artist is Chris Canyon and the song is "Forget Me". You can hear the final version on Spotify, etc.
Hey hey! These are reissued Ludwig Limited Edition Mahogany Club Date toms [12,14,16], and my vintage Ludwig 4-ply Super Classic 16x22 Bass Drum. Just love that thing.
Great video. First time watching your recording content. I have a home/pro studio and really enjoyed listening to your drum tones. Quick questions if you wouldn't mind me asking....i noticed you have your cymbals somewhat higher than "normal" placement. Is there a specific reason? Im sure either way it has its benefits in recordings especially with cymbal bleed into other mics...
Thank you Manuel! Yep, you guessed it! Years ago, I started to move my cymbals higher..initially because I like to use large thin crashes [20"] and just need more distance to smack them to get them to open up. One side benefit I found was it moved them further away from the mics below..cleaning that up quite a bit. Also, it looks cool [to me] :) Cool you have a home studio to work in. What is your kit and studio setup?
@@therealjonsmith1 I suspected it had a cleaner effect on mics, especially the Tom Mics id assume.. That's good info. Yes, sir, I have a pretty decent setup not too shabby. I have a 1000 sqft side of my home where I'm able to track full bands with the majority of the band in their own isolated area. I'm more of a multi instrumentalist than a sole drummer lol but my drum kit I have here are Yamaha Recording Customs. I just received them about 4 months ago and really love them. Idk if you're a mics and preamp fanatic, but I love to geak out on stuff like that. lol I'm running a beta 52 and a united fet47 on kick. Snare Se VX7 on top and bottom, toms im running MD 421's and overheards i have 2 modded WA 251 mics. My room mic for the Kit also my Vocal mic is a Manley C Reference.... I have a small humble setup but hey it sounds pretty darn good. Lots of trail and error and always looking to improve. I'm going to have to try the higher cymbals technique for sure. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 Your kits sound so good as well, by the way🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Hey Tim. On the original single, I programmed the first verse kick and side stick [or cross stick]. On this recreation, I just decided to play it live. As far as rimshots...I learned to do that years ago to add power to the snare sound. Hope that helps a little at least!
Good stuff
Appreciate it!
Sounds great, I really enjoy your videos!
Smooth 👌
Thanks 💯
