Hey Matt, thanks for chiming in on this! I can confirm Jeff Porcaro, etc. used these drums. But, instead of comparing notes on exactly who played them, I just wanted to highlight the fact that the drum has become ubiquitous and is used all over the world. It has been argued over (which I have zero interest in) and proposed that the Ludwig Supra 400 / 402 model is the most recorded snare drum in history. I can def agree with you that there may be other models that sound fantastic and may be less expensive. Everything is debatable of course. Also, you are so right about the recording / engineering process shaping and changing a snare drum in the studio. The spirit of the channel and this video is to open up a conversation with you and anyone here! Thanks again for being here and taking your time to offer your insight 🙌

May I ask why you feel that way? I've never played one of these shells. I have several vintage 400 & 402's in my collection and they suit me quite well.

@@SopranoPizzaJMFNJ Absolutely! First, it looks cool.The standard Supra is just fine. I have the 5x14 and plan to grab the 6.5x14 again. Great drums. The hammered version with tube lugs is a bit drier and a little darker to my ears. Also, it has a sweet vintage look to it! I mean...c'mon haha.
