Superb review as always, very well spotted, pointing out the torso shape, something that most people didnt noticed, thats why you are the best in this IMHO.
And you are right, most megalosauroids had flat torsos, (with the only exception of Spinosaurus) their ribs are straight and pointing downgards because the horizontal transverse processes of most of the dorsal vertebrae, so their rib cages look mediolaterally compresed. The thic torsos only appear in allosaurids (not even in carcharodontosaurids) and tyrannosaurids (avetheropod condition), the shaft of their ribs is bowed and the transverse processes dorsolaterally positioned in the thoracic vertebrae. So you are very right, that body is from very different families.

@@laseriedeladilophosaure9246 Nope, you are totally wrong, torvos torso is in fact very narrow, is one of the best examples, you can see this even in the biggest torvo specimen CMC VP15575. Totally different shape from Allosaurus or tyrannosaurids, check some dorsal views of skeletal reconstructions, Gregory Paul, Scott Hartma.... Allo has a much deeper body than Torvo, regardless the size, that btw Torvo hasnt advantage there neither against the biggest specimens. Tyrannotitan is more similar to Acrocanthosaurus and Giga that both have proportionally narrower torsos, and different dorsal vertebra shape, read osteology and philogenetic relationships of T. chubutensis by Novas et al and a new specimen of acrocanthosaurus atokensis from yhe lower cretaceous antlers formation by currie and carpenter, where they literally stated "(ribs) are directly comparable with those of allosaurus and show acrocanthosaurus had a rather high, narrow body".

Thank you for your kind words John! But no I cannot claim to be anywhere near the best. In fact I have openly said many times that as far as theropods go, my lack of knowledge is atrocious. My main interest is in sauropods, and my second favourite group alternates between ceratopsians and hadrosaurs.
But I do have a love for anatomy, and it is really amazing what the orientation of different processes can tell us, and even something like the ribs which is often ignored, can be expressed in the external morphology of the animal. The interesting thing that I forgot to mention is that even the Dino Hazard Irritator has the same narrow flatter ribs. So it seems like the sculptors there did make a note of this.
I am grateful to highly knowledgeable viewers like yourself who take the time to comment and share your knowledge, which I am sure far outshines mine. Someone who knows their theropods to such exactitude as to know your actual specimens is someone with a true passion! Thank you for your support!

Espero Ichthyovenator... ¡pero veamos qué hace PNSO a continuación!

I can't say how excited I am while clicking in this video, I've been waiting for this review for some time now. And as usual, you never disappoint! This figure in my opinion is certainly better than the hlg Baryonyx, but the paintwork they've put in to this figure is almost too similar to the Saurophaganax or the Cameron Tyrannosaurus to me. Even though it's definitely better than the original prototype, I'd still wanted a little more of some color variants to this model.
But this review is definitely top notch just like your other dinosaur reviews, appreciate your work into these reviews dinodragons.

The irony is that in and of itself, this model is actually really good. But PNSO paint apps have been so good that they kinda spoilt the market for their own selves with this rather simplistic application. the blends are still smooth, but they are not as complex.

I’m curious to see PNSO’s reasoning for the robust torso, but all things considered I really like this model a lot. It’s one of the few releases I ordered on day one before any reviews or in hand photos came out.
Edit: After doing some further research on this it appears that Baryonyx has a very robust shoulder girdle and wider ribcage, making it even more heavily built than Suchomimus despite being smaller. PNSO paid excellent attention to detail.

Well I'm the last person who should be commenting on theropods, but I believe that some older skeletals do have a similar look to this one. Maybe this was based on that. But I couldn't swear too how carved in stone this should be. I leave it to real theropod experts to comment on that!

to be honest when i look at the claws, the sculpted thumb claw is actually indeed as big as it needs to be compared to the rest, but the paint of the claws is a bit sloppy in some areas especially the base so you cannot really notice it easily, in this shot 5:41 you can see the color of the thumb claw ends before the actual claw and in 5:24 you can see the second claw having its color extend all the way to the start of the finger, so with a paint touch up the claw can pop up more but the actual sculpted claw is fine in fact its as big as in the hlg baryonyx

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  4 месяца назад +2

Even so, I thnk there is something lacking in the thickness of the base of the claw, and considering how keratin would build it up more, it always sat wrong with me. However I will be getting this repainted, including the claw flaws as you suggest, and then reassess to see how it looks like.

I have mixed feelings about a PNSO figure for the first time in my life. Is it good? Definitely. Is it bad? Well, it kind of is on a more minute level. But unquestionably, this is the most perfect Baryonyx figure out there. The dull-looking crest, big claw, color palette, and belly are the most controversial areas in the figure, and it seems like they made this figure in a hurry. But overall, it looks good. I'll probably buy this figure someday when I have enough money. So, stay strong, Maxim. I'm coming for you. Thank you so much for this review, my dear sir. You are the best. 🖤🖤

Thank you for your thoughtful comment as always! The irony is that because PNSO has had such sterling paint apps in the past, this one comes off as rather simplistic. Otherwise it actually still blends rather smoothly.
I wonder about what you say, whether this was indeed made in a hurry. I would think that for some reason, maybe something was rushed, but I believe that a lot of thought still went into the design of it. I have to say that this one is still my favourite Baryonyx so far. But I may look to repaint it down the road.

If randomdinos takes his 2.6m hip height from the ground based on his illustration, his Spinosaurus leg is less flexed than the PNSO Spinosaurus, particularly in the hip, knee, and with a little less dorsiflexion. Overall his reconstruction shows a straighter attitude in the hindlimbs than the PNSO. In any case, Spinosaurus as it stands now is quite messy, so I cannot decide whose reconstruction is the most accurate. We'll just have to wait and see, I guess.
