"Do you think this'll motivate you to paint your own army?" Dude, I just came here as one of many examples of how to use my new streaking grime wash because I haven't used it before, and not only does this motivate me to apply this technique to my own army (Knights), it's also having me seriously considering picking up some Death Gaurd models! GW should make an enamel range and hire you lol.
Thanks :) some people love spending hours and hours just painting a face. I do not ha! But depending on the army I would put more time into it. This was just a challenge to myself to get motivated and the painting style fits in really well with the Death Guard. It's all about having fun so if you have fun painting...then it doesn't really matter how long it takes :)
Good stuff, man. It's nice to see a vaguely achievable result now and then. Watching the god-tier mini artists putting out masterpieces is fun, but, frankly, this is more inspiring as I can actually see myself doing something like this without too much of a stretch. Much appreciated.
Thank you :) thats exactly why I make videos! I want to inspire people to try it themselves and see that it's achievable! If you don't like the models...repaint them ha!
Great job man. I've found with the AK stuff that you shouldn't wait too long to start pulling it away. It dries really fast compared to say just using oil paints thinned down. The airbrush makes it set faster as well. I've found that doing a tank 1 by one and regular models in a squad at a time. Its quicker to take the AK stuff off which saves a lot of time
Sorry for the necro, but since the AK stuff gets off with some IPA and in some other videos it seems like it can be "reactivated" with it, isnt the time the AK Grime Stuff a bit irrelevant? If its dry, the alkohol just rubs it off either way?
Personally I found the plasma glow way to much. I mean that poor marines belly!? Apart from that I found everything absolutely superb, jaw dropping good! Also nice soundtrack, u did it yourself? Had some Plastikman vibes, and also a bit of Eno in the middle part ❤️
The whole video is fantastic and excellent use of contrast paints. I hear a lot of people say how they aren't for "serious painters" and I keep seeing videos like this prove them wrong. Also, I will be adopting your airgun accuracy test for personal use :D
Contrasts are amazing for getting a nice solid base colour down easily that you're them going to change with washes and effects. Oils and enamels work so well with them to give some great effects - ai love seeing videos showing off their power and convincing more people to give it a go!
Really awesome job! I like how you used contrast paints with enamels and oil washes together... that’s a pretty cool approach! I also liked how you trusted your process-that confidence was obvious and you knew it would work out and I think it shows. You’ve definitely given me some ideas-Thank you!
Awesome job. I find with streaking grime you don't even need white spirit. Let it dry for like an hour and its still wet enough to just cotton bud off without spirits
Thank you :) yeah I have taken it off with a cloth before when I painted my knight. It was great as it left more grime behind. I only used spirit with these as I wanted the 'white armour' to come through which is what Pallid Hand should look like. Also I may do some additions with light rust etc

its nice to see achievable results with some practice and experience. Your Deathguard look fantastic and I really like your process using different types of paint for different effects and how you do your plasma glow is really neat

That "water-colour" effect on the Contrast Paint is really neat. I've not seen the dabbing on white spirit technique before; that's an interesting take on oil/enamel washes.
Yeah I love the watercolour effect. I plan to try it oh some flat panels to see it I can make a mottle effect. The reductive technique (using spirits) has been around for some time now. I discovered it from zatcaskagoon miniatures. Check him out!
@@SlayerMiniatures I've used the technique where you rub off the excess with dampened cotton buds, but this washing the area with white spirit is new to me :D I'll check out zatcaskagoon. I is great how people in the community are more than happy to highlight each other's work.
8:30, seems much darker, did you made 2-3 or more layers with this brown without water? Did you put the brown on this surface already haven another paint on it like a red ? I mean I seems very dark or is it just two layer of the paint witout colour as you did for the other colours ?
That flesh is literally the zenithal highlight, white - grey - black, and gulliman flesh contrast. That's it. And it's only one layer. It seems dark as the flesh wash tints the white and grey and the zenithal shows through. Which is exactly what I was going for.
@@SlayerMiniatures ok thanks 🙂. Btw great job, this army looks fantastic and inspires me a lot, was stuck being afraid of painting thise beautiful nurgle figs. I will still practice a bit more on other figs first but I feel that I will soon start to paint my nurgle collection (also have old figs, 3 generations of plague marines, 3 generations of plaguebearer, etc). Thanks again
Oh nice, you have vintage models! I practiced the scheme on a single model before trying it on the entire army. Don't be scared to do tests :) they can easily be stripped of paint or painted over
when i saw your makeup brush - i knew you are doing everything right ;) im currently painting alot and i've used this technique for a 24hour necron army already. its just the best "not miniature specific" tool in my range ^^
Yeah they are amazing arent they?! I have a massive one that I keep clean and just use for dusting off the models after the griming step that leaves some fibres behind. But I have a full set of makeup brushes that are amazing for dry brushing!
@@SlayerMiniatures yeah same over here. I send my gf to buy them for me to be honest. Last time she brought me a medium one with a tiny one on the other end. Really practical and so much better to drybrush than those streaky regular dry brushes. Would love if you could check out my work and see if you spot the makeup brush work 😊 Its wk83 on insta
@@SlayerMiniatures ohh thanks alot for your kind words :D gotta check it out. im working on quite alot of projects atm :D but i need a 24 hour army again soon ^^
Nice work, It takes me 6 days to do a single marine, not because I am putting in 6 days of work, but because I hate doing the trim on them and burnout fast. I have 15 models left to go.
This is my first time of seeing your stuff and I can't help myself. I would not call this a speed paint. The second you went to oils and streaking mediums the time line blew out and requires more care than the slap on approach of say standard GW paints or Contrast. This does not take away from the finish though. I would also note that verdigris is not found on iron or steel, nor rust on ceramics. The lore said Space Marine armour was made from Ceramite. However, these are Chaos Marines and as Lou Reed said, "The rules do not apply". Having said all that, as far as the finish is concerned, WOW! Worth the effort I think.
Thanks alot :) appreciate the kind words. This is exactly why I started making videos, to inspire people and help them paint their grey piles of shame ha. My friend has been doing grimdark sisters using this technique and it works really well with this technique :)
if you used pre-made bases like the metal factory style ones I see on some models, you could definitely get all the basing done in the 48 hours as you go along
Thanks for the kind words :) but I assure you it is super easy and doesn't require much skill, just some common sense of when to stop removing it :) if you like this style you should check out zatcaskagoon miniatures. He's the best! ruclips.net/channel/UCj8X4YBgWcDQkPfqsLZJs9g

@@kékédesplages-d6d yeah that would be a good way of doing it. I did a test Plague marine with lots of different contrast colours on it to see what it still looks like, and the effects on different colours. Honestly it's easy. And if you take off to much don't worry...just add some more and start over. Its very forgiving
Awsome choise of colors and the grime is as nasty as You like it. now You just need to drill them barrels, do the bases and paint the rims :D You only pushed me one step colser to opening my oilpaints (i bought them but havn't yet tried them out, i am scared :D )

Don't be scared to do tests :) they can easily be stripped of paint or painted over
This video was amazing keep up the great work!
Thank alot :D
when i saw your makeup brush - i knew you are doing everything right ;) im currently painting alot and i've used this technique for a 24hour necron army already. its just the best "not miniature specific" tool in my range ^^
Would love if you could check out my work and see if you spot the makeup brush work 😊
Its wk83 on insta
@@Sh4d0w20 I'm already following you haha! Have been for some time I think ! Amazing work!
@@SlayerMiniatures ohh thanks alot for your kind words :D gotta check it out. im working on quite alot of projects atm :D but i need a 24 hour army again soon ^^
Wow fantastic work!
Thank you 😊
Super amazing! My suggestion is to paint more stuff
Ha thanks 😊 I will do. Great suggestion
The pink glow does contrast well, it does make me want to paint mine yea :D
Thanks 😊 and glad I inspired you 😀
Nice work, It takes me 6 days to do a single marine, not because I am putting in 6 days of work, but because I hate doing the trim on them and burnout fast. I have 15 models left to go.
Thanks. Yeah the trim was almost my downfall! Stick at it mate! Will be finished in no time
getting all the models ready for priming would take me 48 hours xD
Ha! 😅
You're not wrong. Scraping away at mould lines is something i HAVE to do.
Yeah I didnt include build time. I have to get mould lines! If i find any on part painted models I normally start again ha!
This is a great video. Thank you for doing it.
Thanks 😀 glad you liked it 😀
Tom great stuff and refreshing content, keep up the fantastic work 👍
Thank you 😊 glad you enjoyed it
This is my first time of seeing your stuff and I can't help myself.
Love it you give me so much inspiration to paint minis !
Awesome! That's exactly why I make videos :)
Absolutely loved this, that's a really nice grimdark look that doesn't take 50 hours per model!
Thanks so much, should help me with my Sisters. :)
Thanks alot :) appreciate the kind words. This is exactly why I started making videos, to inspire people and help them paint their grey piles of shame ha. My friend has been doing grimdark sisters using this technique and it works really well with this technique :)
Pretty great, really. Only thing is gold does not oxidate. Ever. Not even if Nurgle cries.
Yeah I know that. But it looks cool 😎
Damn. I really gotta get me some of that streaking grime!
Its amazing stuff! All the ak interactive stuff is amazing
@@SlayerMiniatures the only ak I've tried so far was puddles and I wasn't too excited about that one, but I guess it's time to take the plunge
These look great! There's lots of techniques I'm going to take away from this video, thanks!
Thanks alot :) glad you learned something from it :)
Looking crazy good not a fan of the coil obs but to each thier own. The armor color is suplime its so good
Thanks asge! What are the coil obs? The heads?
@@SlayerMiniatures I think he means osl on the plasma coils, which I think look amazing for the effort
if you used pre-made bases like the metal factory style ones I see on some models, you could definitely get all the basing done in the 48 hours as you go along
Yeah I would have been able to do it all in the 48hrs but my downfall was the gold. It took twice as long as it paint was terrible!
@@SlayerMiniaturesAmazing job nonetheless! Would love to see that Drukhari or Nighthaunt army of yours once theyre done!
Thanks Freddie Flintoff. They look great!
Ha! Do I sound like Freddie? Thanks 😊
Wow, so pro ! O.o The way you reveal colors with that technique is so magical. I'm so far from your level right now. ^^
@@SlayerMiniatures Ah ah you pointed in the right way, to what realy scares me about that technique. Maybe i could try with just one mini first (a crawler, because if i fail it won't be a total disaster). Thanks for the cheers. I'll give it a try.
Loved watching that Tom 🏆
😍
That's fucking brilliant
Thanks 😀
Very inspiring, thank you
Thank you 😊
Going to be “borrowing” a technique. Thank you 😊
Crack on! That's why I made the video :)
Awsome choise of colors and the grime is as nasty as You like it. now You just need to drill them barrels, do the bases and paint the rims :D
You only pushed me one step colser to opening my oilpaints (i bought them but havn't yet tried them out, i am scared :D )
Thanks 😊 yes I will be doing a mass basing and barrel-drilling session at some point ha!
Don't be scared to use the oils! They are so forgiving as they take longer to dry so you have ages to play around with them. If you don't like the effect just wash them away with spirits. They are amazing so give them a go!
Quality work
Cheers :)
Dangerous video this. Got me looking at deathguard now 😂
Just amazing work, you should definitely be proud of all this. The colors turned out amazing.
Aaaaand just because it can't be a public comment without some unsolicited advice, ahhahaha, I think you should paint the edges of the bases black ;)
Thanks alot :) I'm mega proud to finally have a finished army! And the paint job is pretty good too :)
Yes I need to base the entire lot on mechanicus bases to match the rest of my Army...which deffo will be painted black ha
Very impressive
Thank you! More on the way!
