STORIES LIKE THIS ARE WHY EVERYONE LOVES PRE-NEW 52 SUPERMAN BECAUSE HIS STORIES ARE FILLED WITH HOPE AND INSPIRATION AND I FOR ONE AM GLAD TO HAVE HIM BACK IN COMICS
they made DCCU based on the new 52 thinking we wanted our heroes WWE attitude era style. pre new 52 had the perfect balance between golden age and new 52. Rebirth is attempting to get back there. but the DCAU is actually one of the best adaptations of all as its 13 years long
the last image of Clark saying '' this is the last day I wear this '' is pure gold is hilarious I really loved it. looking forward to next Wednesday to the continuation.
I have to say that you are right Rob and this is the definitive Superman Origin and I find it awesome that you are on board for the Superman hype train that just keeps rolling on since Tomasi picked up the book. Keep up the great content
when i saw the tornado, I thought "OMG is he gonna let her die!?" and no! he didn't! because that's what superheroes do. they save the day. Not like Man of Steel...
@Matt I know its ok to hate on the tornado scene but you guys know there was a reason. but Clark was very very young in that scene, he was supossed to be 15 or 16 in the scene ( even if they used Cavill which makes him look way too old ) and when shit hit the fan, his dad requested Clark to let him go, he believed that the world was not ready to see him just yet. that the world will reject him and maybe the government or people will try to take him and experiment stuff with him. No parent will want that for his son, if he was exposed in that moment that's what would have happened most likely. It was better that Superman was exposed as this person that ended up saving the planet, so at least some people will see him as a savior figure. We know that didn't turn out like that but it was inevitable.
I think its time that Rob made a video about his top favorite comic book writers and artists. I think its time lol. Ive noticed how he has admired certain writers with such feeling.
Yeah, Rob probably hasn't seen Smallville, because he has made several references in his Earth One video as well about how "amazingly original" several things that happened in those stories, but they were ripped straight from smallville. He really should watch Smallville, I just watched it for the first time last year and it was amazing.
Not gone lie you really helped me find my love for comics man and then when i heard the kendrick beat in the back group it really just blew me away. You the real deal my man
Yes. Please continue this. I love your coverage of Superman. Not as much as The Hulk, but that's just me. Your love for the character comes through and the work shines when you cover supes. Look forward to the next.
I really like Geeff Johns writing. and thank you rob for the content and the energy you put into your videos. the energy and enjoyment you get from the stories really comes thru and makes them more enjoyable.
I have the collected version of this on my bookshelf, and LOVE it. Reliving this with you made me smile, laugh, and even get my eyes wet. Great stuff Rob. :)
Geoff Johns has done a good job capturing what made Clark what he turned out to be without going back and re-tooling everything. He may not be emo, or Goth, or dark and gritty, but Superman SHOULDN'T be those things! He's the thing we aspire to be....We may not have those groovy powers, but we CAN be the best we can be. And it doesn't matter what planet you're from or time in history, that fact never changes. Superman is the best in US....The Smallville stories are what make an alien into a human and then a hero. I hope writers in the future never forget that.
Geoff Johns has the Midas touch when it comes to DC characters, The Rebirth series for Flash and Green Lantern were brilliant, and Superman Origins was well crafted
To honest synder should of adapted this story because it brings hope, joy shows how relatable he is and the man has his struggles. Instead of Nolan and Goyer making a dark take something hopeful like this would be much better.
Snyder & Whomever writing the script are too busy beating "Superman is a god" into everyone's skulls. I also hate how the DCU acts like Lois is the only thing that ties Clark/Kal to humanity.
I can't remember where but it was stated that Supes killing Zod was all Snyder's idea and that Nolan had originally wanted Zod to just get suck into the Phantom Zone with the other Kryptonians. Considering the rest of the movie prior which was about establishing Superman has finding his calling as a symbol of hope and helping people. I never knew how true that statement was, but seeing BVS where Nolan was gone, I can believe it.
That was a good story and I did really like the humanity it shows a real connection to a regular high school kid. I really like when they show a connection to humanity especially with the really powerful hero's like superman cause then it makes it more believable. You did a good job relaying the story as usual keep up the good work brother!!
Christopher Reeve's Superman is a streamlined version of the Silver/Bronze Age version of the character, Secret Origin by Geoff Johns is invoking that Superman and is a tribute to that Superman (as well as a sort of companion peace to All Star Superman) and I think that's why he is meant to look exactly like Chris Reeve
From the moment Clark moves to Metropolis to the very end is basically a script for a movie, there and ready. With maybe some flashbacks to his early years from earlier works. The last few pages, I could HEAR a remix of Zimmer's Superman theme from the movie. The people looking up, Jimmy Olsen taking a photo, Luthor watching bitterly from behind a cracked window of his office, Here he is. The Man himself. I know superheroes nowdays must have some deep inner trauma, but Superman is a breath of fresh air. He's a giant, overpowered dork. He poses for pictures like he's a 10 year old in a christmas play, He's always polite, he gives you that ridiculously goofy smile while he's shaking your hand. That's the magic of superman
I've Been Searching for this Superman Story For Days, I Loved How Gary Made Him Look, and I Finally Found Him (3 Hours Later). Rob Makes a Video on it... I LOVE YOU ROB #RobCore
It's one of the reasons why I loved Smallvile. Yeah, it went on for way TOO long, but those early seasons you got to know Clark so well. And a part of me rewatching the series, really does appreciate that aspect. And I'm glad that Johns kind of touches upon this. Because, it is writing like this that I point to when I describe why I love Superman. Superman is a character, if written well, is instantly relatable. He's a farmboy from Kansas. Yeah, he's an alien, but it is the values he'd learned from John and Martha Kent that really cause him to be this icon that most of us know and love.
Neil, I personally loved seasons 7-10 more simply because they made Lana really annoying in that show and her story went on for far too long. Also the later seasons felt more like comic book plots, also it became more focused on Clark and Lois. However, I do think that those later seasons would have been better as a separate tv show when Clark was an adult and Superman, unfortunately though they would have had to replace Tom Welling because he didn’t want to wear the suit and was not contracted to which is why they had to cgi it in the series finale.
@@randomericthings7506 I loved the later seasons also, I actually loved every season. From the farm-boy Clark stuff at the beginning too the setting up the DC universe with cross-overs at the end, I love it all.
superman earth one is a favorite of mine, but secret origin is my favorite retelling of his origin. I also want to call attention to Gary Frank's art: I have never seen art this good. I was so happy to see Geoff Johns and Gary Frank return to work on Batman earth one.
Rob, you are a genius!, in the other hand, i don't understand why a lot of people shit on the "Man of Steel" movie, except by the Krypton escenes, is highly influence by this comic.
Hey ComicsExplained I was wondering if maybe next time you upload a video, if you could turn up the volume on your mic or something please. Because this video's volume is really low, thanks man love the videos.
Yeah Dude, do the rest of them. I have this one shots and I love it. That part where Clark said to Jonathan "I want to be your son", I feel that's where they got that line in the Man of Steel movie where Kevin Costner said "You are my son".
Geoff Johns, my word, if I ever see him in person, I'm buying a green lantern omnibus and having him sign it. Seriously, I have never read anything written by him that wasn't absolutely amazing.
One of the more unknown of the superman comic and also considered most hair raising Would be adventures of superman 46-48It's considered to be strange visitor superman and even pays homage to the original Bronze Age superman.A great quick read with enough story content and feats to bring up a good topic for videos
This suddenly makes me want to rewatch Smallville...man its a cheesy show from 2001-ish...that first season may be super cheese but its still good cheese lol.
ComicsExplained the image of Clark lifting his father off the ground from chair kind of felt like a Call back to the action comics first issue when they showed baby Kent's strength
Rob, this story actually takes a lot from the Smallville tv show, especially the horny teen heat vision, the fashion ascetic, and much more. Geoff has even talked about how he took many elements from Smallville.
Great chapter on superman's origins,ComicsExplained! I do have a request, could you or have you already done a who is the most powerful superhero of both DC and Marvel's Universe and who's faster,The Flash or Superman Prime. Thanks in advance!
Honestly I was really happy that they brought back the original Superman and Lois Lane and I was even more happy that they had a child it just felt so right
Hey explained, D.C. Rebirth volumes are coming out and I already have batman rebirth issues so I am thinking about getting superman rebirth volume 1 , do you agree with my choice ?
STORIES LIKE THIS ARE WHY EVERYONE LOVES PRE-NEW 52 SUPERMAN BECAUSE HIS STORIES ARE FILLED WITH HOPE AND INSPIRATION AND I FOR ONE AM GLAD TO HAVE HIM BACK IN COMICS
Ant And also why I don't like man of steel, or DCU Superman.
whats DCU superman ?
DCCU? DC cinematic universe.
ok thanks

this is what man of steel should of been
Agreed, I would've been perfectly happy if they replaced the entire 1st act with this story.
I was thinking the same thing as I was watching the video. :)
NerdVerse Nope
when i saw the tornado, I thought "OMG is he gonna let her die!?" and no! he didn't! because that's what superheroes do. they save the day. Not like Man of Steel...

The heat vision thing is just like in smallville
yeah it is
Yeah, Rob probably hasn't seen Smallville, because he has made several references in his Earth One video as well about how "amazingly original" several things that happened in those stories, but they were ripped straight from smallville. What's so Funny About Truth, Justice, and The American Way as a DC superman thursday.
Who put these onions here, what the hell man.
Yes. Please continue this. I love your coverage of Superman. Not as much as The Hulk, but that's just me. Your love for the character comes through and the work shines when you cover supes. Look forward to the next.

so his glasses worked like cyclops Ruby quartz visor? geoff johns is a genus
this is awesome. pls continue. Superman is my favorite
i love superman's rebirth design
when the americas most famous icon was is an immigrant
Chicken of justice 9000 nothing more American than being an immigrant
and thats funny because? ..... Its normal?
Chicken of justice 9000 Nothing wrong with that.
Chicken of justice 9000 Technically Apache Chief from the Super Friends cartoon is the only non-immigrant American superhero.
Generic Superhero good pointChris Newman

Man that was good vid, so much energy and passion leaked out of every minute. Keep it up Rob, you hit gold once again.
Robs videos among a few other RUclipsrs just brighten my day
This is a great comic, take notes Marvel.
I liked the "you are my son" moment in MoS too
I didn't realize this story was out there. I'm definitely going to have to pick it up. Thanks, Rob
This is easily my favorite of your episodes, and I've been binge watching you. Way better than the hulk stuff. On par with your old man logan stuff.
To honest synder should of adapted this story because it brings hope, joy shows how relatable he is and the man has his struggles. Instead of Nolan and Goyer making a dark take something hopeful like this would be much better.
Man of Steel was influenced by almost every Superman origin story. The most notable ones were Earth One and Birthright
***** He liked the first act, but he got turned off by the "destruction porn" in the second act. And then he got really mad when Superman killed Zod.
but second half was even more stupid than the 1st probably because nolan had no influence in the second.
Snyder & Whomever writing the script are too busy beating "Superman is a god" into everyone's skulls.

this was great yo, thanks!!

Another great narrative Rob! Thanks
Great Video Rob!!
Love it! I will go and pick these issues up!
I love Superman: Secret Origin. Great story.
Birthright and American Alien are also great re-tellings of his origin.
good job Rob
well presented thank you.
agreed great music also bub

xmen jet vs avengers jet? Which one wins?
You know what, you get that video next week. And I am specifically going to give you a shout out lol.
That's so cool rob! You are a king among kings!
Throw in Wonder Womans jet as a troll.
ComicsExplained I loved this one rob, thanks again for an amazing video.
ComicsExplained PRAISE THE LORD! It's happening!

Another awesome comic explained. thank Rob.
I've Been Searching for this Superman Story For Days, I Loved How Gary Made Him Look, and I Finally Found Him (3 Hours Later). Rob Makes a Video on it... I LOVE YOU ROB #RobCore
Rob I love the way you talk about things behind the comics
such a good job with this one, as usual
They established on Smallville that heat vision is connected to sexual attraction.
Craig Goetsch i would love to read more stories of teenage lana helping out clark with his powers. And being his first girlfriend. (in the comics)
Craig Goetsch So Clark needs to "heat up" *nudge* in order to use his heat vision?
It's one of the reasons why I loved Smallvile. Yeah, it went on for way TOO long, but those early seasons you got to know Clark so well. And a part of me rewatching the series, really does appreciate that aspect. And I'm glad that Johns kind of touches upon this.

that was so sweet, characters oriented and warm just like the Kents
Geoff Johns is God.
God Johns
PureKaoZ Geoff Johns's is not God but he's pretty damn goOd
No.
Love this story. Keep up the good work.
excellent story. . I read it. keep it going rob
More of This!!
Love this. You should delicate one day of the week to doing secret origins for a while
I preferred Superman: American Alien's origin story
I do too but that one isn't in continuity.
ComicsExplained Sadly
What about Superman Birthright?
Superman: Illegal Alien stole our jobs
he took are jobs
This is a nice cool down video after the big impact of imagery and story that the hulk videos have.
I agree , the original superman theme still gives me goosebumps.
i just finished reading secret origins back to back with the first issue of american alien. i'm so happy right now.
Hey Rob, will you ever do Superman Birthright? It's my favorite origin for the Superman character and I think a lot of people will enjoy it as well.
hey man if you don't mind, what is the music you use at 12:13? I've tried to find it and it's not listed in any of your videos I've seen. Thanks!
Solid story. Got the harp string twanging there for a second seeing that I too am adopted.
no matter what people say, superman will alwase be the 1 superhero
Hey ComicsExplained I was wondering if maybe next time you upload a video, if you could turn up the volume on your mic or something please. Because this video's volume is really low, thanks man love the videos.
Background music is too loud
keep up the awesome work!
Yeah Dude, do the rest of them. I have this one shots and I love it. That part where Clark said to Jonathan "I want to be your son", I feel that's where they got that line in the Man of Steel movie where Kevin Costner said "You are my son".
This is great stuff
Sweet art too
I gotta say I've been a long time superman hater lol but man D.C. Rebirth has really had me enjoying superman content
This was adorable as hell :)
Superman with the ocular premature radiation... ~_~
That heat vision scene is practically right out of Smallville season 1. Almost the same cause and the same setting banner on fire
Rob love this story. Thanks for it. What happen to the old intro it was awesome.
I love these DC episodes, Ive never really been a DC boy, but these are great. could we get a video about American Alien sometime in the future?
Jesus this story was beautiful
I thoroughly enjoyed the way you told story please do all six issues.
I would imagine Superman looked like Christopher Reeves because Geoff Johns worked for Richard Donner. I believe he was his intern and then assistant.
Geoff Johns, my word, if I ever see him in person, I'm buying a green lantern omnibus and having him sign it. Seriously, I have never read anything written by him that wasn't absolutely amazing.
Superman Birthright tanks this.

that's cool about the glasses...made them functtional
This suddenly makes me want to rewatch Smallville...man its a cheesy show from 2001-ish...that first season may be super cheese but its still good cheese lol.
I like this it reminds me of smallville and The Man of Steel
Idk why but the music made the kiss scene so much more powerful for me.
ComicsExplained the image of Clark lifting his father off the ground from chair kind of felt like a Call back to the action comics first issue when they showed baby Kent's strength

Gyaretto, the Brave and the Bleh he was a writer on the show....
great job man
Great chapter on superman's origins,ComicsExplained! I do have a request, could you or have you already done a who is the most powerful superhero of both DC and Marvel's Universe and who's faster,The Flash or Superman Prime. Thanks in advance!
Hey does anyone know the background music that starts at 12:03?
Rob this all great and all but whatever happened to the "FUTCHA Compilation" that you said you'd do? It's already 2017 any update?
Honestly I was really happy that they brought back the original Superman and Lois Lane and I was even more happy that they had a child it just felt so right
I like New-Old Superman,I really do... but I'm going to Miss 52 Superman & Wonder Woman. ( I know he had some spotty stories).
That artwork really dose look like Christopher Reeve.
What's the background song for 12:20
Yes please continue
+ComicsExplained what is that song at 12:03?
I am remind of the show in many ways.
this issue actual did something that hasn't happened to me in a long time, made me care for supes
rob quick question i am just wondering can you do a death of new 52 superman explained please
Comicsexplained can u give the song at 12:05 or at least start putting the songs in the description.
Can you do a list of top 10 superman books ( I know you don't really do lists but I think that would be cool)
Also American Alien? The origin of the N52 Superman equivalent of this
Rob. You need to look at the new Captain Atom run. It looks like Atom might serve a larger purpose in the up coming Dr. Manhattan Event
Hey explained, D.C. Rebirth volumes are coming out and I already have batman rebirth issues so I am thinking about getting superman rebirth volume 1 , do you agree with my choice ?
Definitely get it. Superman, Flash and Detective Comics are the best Rebirth stories.
also please use this chill music instead of electro. or just something epic
I love it powerful story
