- World Cup 2022 has been underway and while there have been some unbelievable upsets, Japan has been the underdog that has surprised the world. They had one of if not the toughest groups, and somehow came out on top.
*This is just a fun video celebrating Japan's incredible feats at the world cup drawing some parallels from Blue Lock's initial phases.
Not only that, they have proved the anime Blue Lock's early philosophy wrong. Proving that teamwork and belief in one another triumphs over ego and selfishness, Japan has made one of the most incredible runs in the tournament thus far, and let's hope they can go even further.

Hey everyone I just wanted to explain myself a little more since I clearly didn't do a good enough job in the video 😅 This video is moreso just a celebration of Japan's incredible run thusfar (and hopefully more) at the World cup and I wanted to somehow tie it into anime/manga. I've played football my whole life and really love the sport so I wanted to talk about the world cup at least once on my channel. I should've explained better, but I'm drawing early parallels from Blue Lock since that is when the players are quite literally betraying each other and their teams for ego and selfishness. Of course the point of Blue Lock won't be/isn't that, but that's how it first appears especially to the players whose ego is truly in the way.
Also, I'm glad people disagree with my theory in the video, I love hearing different perspectives on the subject respectful discourse is the only way to learn more, so thank you for the insight. I will do better elaborating in the future.
Well, Kaoru Mitoma has proved that you were wrong either way. Despite no quality star, Japan had a lot of talents to begin with, despite most of them played in mediocre clubs at Bundesliga. Blue Lock is real.
"While football is a team work sports that isn't meant to be played fully alone, that doesn't mean that you have to throw away your individuality for the team".
That's basically what Blue Lock is about, but people like the mangoose see the word Ego and immediately think teamwork is non-existent.
That's the same as saying nothing m8
Bruh... "Ego" is the mangaka's edgy way of saying for example "never give up", "don't be afraid to take a shot you normally wouldn't" and "making excuses is something you do after a match". It is so obvious to notice it in the mangaka's writing.
Exactly. People don't understand that Ego's way of doing things is weird and unorthodox.
@@chrism007 then they should called it confidence and not ego
The theme of blue lock is not playing without teamwork, it is the importance of ego when the team needs a leader of great skill.
Now I imagine blue lock taking inspiration from world cup to come up with a scenario where team work is the main focus
Great video but I think most people don't know the actual essence of blue lock. Manga reader here so I won't spoil too much. Sure blue lock starts with a simple premise. To find the best striker with self confidence and ego to take Japan to the worl cup. From the anime and manga as well we know Ego Jinpachi to be an eccentric and crazy person. Even though his methods seem unorthodox, there's a reason behind everything. Okay it starts with 300 of Japan's talented strikers and as Ego said they have to create football from zero. Football in the 1800s was just bunch of strikers with the ball trying to score. So Ego follows the same approach. And overtime players starting playing different positions and stuff just like in blue lock. What blue lock wants is a team filled with world class players in every position who are self confident and want to achieve the same goal of winning the world cup. Sure japan has a few world class players like mitoma, minamino, kamada etc who create most of the chances in the team. True you need teamwork and self confidence to win and that's what blue lock teaches in a cruel and unorthodox way.
Building football from zero means being able to adapt your playstyle in a team with people you don't know and never played with. A player who can't do that is not fit out to play in a national team or professional football as a whole.
Read something about how the game works man. You can take all millions of kids in japan, Force them to play football everyday, train their hardest and they'll still never be able to reach levels of Ronaldo as an individual. It's how it is. That's how genes work.
Football is a team sport first and foremost. This was an average anime tbh, that's gets too repetitive after a while. Hate watched it after the half season
Great video! can’t wait to see what happens next 😄
bro just declared war on the bus lock community💀
Ao Ashi style
I need a 2nd season like yesterday.
Well, this ages poorly. Yesterday's game between Japan and Croatia saw a pretty even game with both teams having chances on target. It's a shame they couldn't convert it into goals.
Edit: The shootout, not to discredit the Croatia's goalkeeper that randomly turns into prime Yashin out of nowhere, shows Japanese players poor shooting skills.
The japanese players who shoot first are players whve been playing whole 2nd half they are tired now u are blaming them for poor shooting skills? Wow they shoot and scored a goal "blue lock reference" wow thry lose " they need blue lock" its a lose lose situation for japan where everything is just "blue lock" for y'all. stupids
So even if a defender gets a ball in a scoring position can score easily since he was formerly a striker and it's still ingrained in him. With people like that in every position goals can literally come from anywhere and anyone. That's what blue lock is trying to achieve.
Very unorthodox, but it's true. After all, at the start of football, everyone is strikers
remember they never got trained as "Defenders" the odds are they need to score more goals and win. They never got to know how to defend good so how do u expect these strikers to be good defenders? when they dont even know the basics of defending. theres literally no Basic knowledge in defending other than tackling and predicting the moves which is pretty obvious. They dont teach how do u predict the moves, how do u intercept the ball what is the technique on outsmarting enemies?
@@stevtacular3855Are you a manga reader? Italy is defensive based in the manga and niko, aryuu, aiku are there. It's safe to assume aiku will teach them the basics and everything that goes along with it since he is one of the best defenders in the manga. That does answer your question?
@@chrism007 they didnt even teach Defensing methods yet im reading the manga not single one explanation how to defend actually shown in the show because defending and attacking is a great difference IN FOOTBALL terms
@@chrism007 "safe to assume" there u said it "ASSUME" but never got a spotlight plus the show didn't show how defending actually works LMAO. Dont even know what covering means
Japan just Lost to Croatia rn
I know 😭
I'm not Japanese but I watched both Games, against Germany and against Spain (I didn't watch the game against Costa Rica), and prayed both times before the second half for Japan to win. Well, I'm convinced my prayers were answered since they were completely selfless. The only other country I prayed for in this entire World Cup is Croatia because well I'm Croatian... Make of it what you will.
A nice video and explanation, but it all starts from a false premise that blue lock's only idea is an egoist striker, which if you read a couple of chapters is not right.
Also 99,99% h ppl didn't think japan would go through? What? At the same time at least don't show a picture that proves you wrong?
Japan was one of the greatest teams of this world cup. My respect to this team!
Was so fun to watch them play this year!
"I mean its alright"
Underrated
Well, you can only expect so much from a comic book.
sir we just got eliminated
Was a good run, unlucky in pens :(
"How Japan's National Team Proved Blue Lock WRONG" Did they win the world cup? Then they didn't prove Blue Lock wrong.
This is because Japan isn't playing based on Blue Lock, they are playing based on Inazuma Eleven. Inazuma Eleven is another football anime that is about believing on one another. Japan remains triumph with Kidou Yuuto, Gouenji Shuuya and their captain Endou Mamoru but Kageyama defeated them by plotting their defeat in Croatia. Another underdog team shocked the world when Saudi Arabia beat Argentina, I have a feeling they could potentially be the second Asian country to win the world cup after Japan.
I can’t believe Japan is winning ! ⚽️
2011 women’s champion done
Just read/watch Giant Killing
Japan vs spain
Im a Portuguese weeb who the hell do you think i rooted for?
Japan! 😎
Kada smo uništili japan toliko lagano.🇭🇷🔥 Ali obožavam japan
🇭🇷❤️🇯🇵
Great video. But I think Blue lock was proven absolutely correct if anything at all. The Japanese team was nothing but admirable in this world cup. To get out of the group they did alone is enough to be written in their history books. That being said, Blue Lock's entire point is that they lack the last missing ingredient to be a serious contender for the World Cup or dare anyone say, win the thing.
Yes. The team went out admirably. But how many times have we seen Japan go out the same way. 3 out of the last 4 world cups have ended in a Round of 16 penalty shooutout defeat. Although it's much easier said than done, Japan needs a striker that can put teams to the sword when Japan are in the ascendency.
Japan has good defenders, very technical midfielders, a great work ethic and understanding of strategy. The last thing they miss is the killer instinct that Mbappe, Lewa, Haaland, Kane and other strikers of the world have.
A striker through and through is the type of person that will not be happy if he his team has win 6-0 in a derby against their local rivals, if he himself has failed to get on the goalsheet. A striker through and through is the type of player that will see a penalty as a chance to steal the plaudits and win the game for the team, or even write themselves into history if its in a major final.
Japan had more than enough to beat Croatia. They dominated the ball, they had more speed. But they seemed quite happy for it to go to extra time. Which is exactly what Blue Lock is talking about. Football is ultimately a game where the one who wins scores more than the other.
I think the quality of your video is incredible.
And I'm glad you want to give your plaudits to Japan cause they deserve it.
But Blue Lock was absolutely right.
Furuhashi simply should have been taken.
He is the Blue Lock of Japanese football.
My boy needs its facts checked. Croatia had 60% possession what do you mean dominated the ball. Also they got scored after 1-0 lead wd defense was good lmao plus they always losing their headers. Been problem since 2018 u need to watch more football and learn more about it my guy
Japan had more speed, croatia battling them with stamina thats how croatia got to finals last wc. croatia battling powerhouses with their inexhaustible stamina. Ao ashi explained this very well with croatia's run in wc 2018
@@stevtacular3855
Those weebs are lacking braincells, im sure that’s the reason they are watching sport anime
@@stevtacular3855 Nah, it was different. Japan in 2018 had none of these pace but technical quality, mostly coming from Kagawa, Honda and some of their best midfielders. But in 2022, it's their wingers.
...So I mean like I agree. But they still did not get the world cup🙃
Sadly 😭
Mate but then you don't understand blue lock, course they didn't win blue lock. Ego wanna make a team that's always like agentina and Messi.
So it's fantastic that Japan did what they did, history making but it's far from enough.
No Argentina, players all are humbles except Martinez who is a goal keeper , most of them are shy , but their teamwork is superior than any other team they can adapt to alot of tactics
