- It can be really concerning to see your cat pooping blood, blood in their stool, or in the litter tray. But is it really as serious as you might think? Well, if you're asking why is there blood in your cat’s poop, you need to know that cat bloody stools can be caused by 8 main categories of disease:
- Constipation
- Trauma
- Anal gland abscess
- Food intolerance
- Parasites
- Infection
- Inflammatory bowel disease
- Cancer
All of these different causes need different tests and treatments to resolve. Some are simple, requiring nothing more than some simple home treatments and TLC, others need much more.

Adding fiber like canned pumpkin into their soft foods really helps with constipation. Best thing I've found that is natural and my cats like it.

My cat had stones about a year ago, we got a new cat in august and recently i noticed blood with his poop yesterday. I have been accidently feeding him the kitty food instead (he has a special urinary tract food) but him and the new kitty dont along well either and i dont know what the cause is/if i should take him to the vet. Hi Dr. I have a 6 week old kitten and started having lose stool with a spot of blood for 2 days now, i had call the vet to see if i can get hus vaccines and deworming but they told me to take hime till he is 8 weeks old. Plus he has 5 siblings that need vaccines.

One of our cats has occasional blood in his stool. It's weird because it's not all the time. We took him in about 4 months ago bringing our total to 7 lol. He was a stray and is very healthy otherwise. One thing I noticed is when I would take him for a car rides he would have really bad diarrhea with some blood in it then a couple days later without taking him in the car his poop was solid. I don't take him in the car anymore because I think he gets so nervous. I noticed today when he pooped it was normal but there was a quarter sized spot of blood and a bit of mucus and a few worms. (tape worm I believe) looked like off colored rice moving about. I treated him with Praziquantel as well as all the others as I'm sure they have it too. Is it possible for worms like that to cause some occasional blood in the stool if they have had them for a while?
certainly could be. Keep up regular treatment and if the blood returns you'll know they aren't to blame
This really help me i rescued a baby ginger cat and i suddenly see a blood on her poop so i search it i have 2 possible problem 1. Food tolerance or 2. Parasites but i hope non of this choices is in her its actually a little blood like 2 drops like that my dad said maybe because its her first time eating?

Is there a sign that my cat ate any poison things? His poop is all normal but has a bit of blood in it. He’s about to be 3 years old in October and I never expected any problems like this. His poop is also solid. He isn’t playful anymore, when my dad touched his tummy he wanted to bite him but he didn’t bite me... my cat keeps on standing on his tummy every day on the floor.
If he's had a change in behavior like that then I'd worry he's in pain and should really be checked over

my cat is acting normal, eating normal, drinking normal. a score of 4-5 on the bristol stool chart. But in his poop, there are little splatters of blood mostly on the edges of the poop pieces. bright red blood. It's been going on for quite a while (2-3 months?) and sometimes after he finishes his anus is slightly bloody, most of the time it's not bloody tho. But there's still blood in his poop. Some very small amounts of blood (like 2-4 drops of blood) even clump up by themselves in the cat litter. he is barely 1.5 years old, a British shorthair, 5 kg. What do i do? :0 should i take him to the vet
taking him to the vet would be a good way to rule out anything more serious. It might be all he needs is a different diet but its better to be safe with problems that have been going on for that long

Hi, my cat had diarrhoea with quite a lot of blood. Threw up once that day and was hiding under the bed (unusual for him). I Rushed him to the vets and he was tender when pressed on his stomach/pancreas area. Vet said it was a sign of pancreatitis. Gave him an injection and prescribed probiotics along with a digestive care food. However, that was 1 week ago and now my cat still acts a bit lost sometimes or sad. Sleeping a lot more than usual and his stools have been very dark green with sticky/mucus & dark spots. Today his appetite declined again and hardly had any food, Should I still be worried? 😭😢

@labeebahussain8426 my cat was diagnosed with IBS. Passed all the testing but continues to have diahrrea on and off every few months. So they assume it’s IBS, offer steroid injections as needed & does clear the diahrrea. Doesn’t usually vomit but sometimes he does.

Hello~ I've got a cat and when I check her poop I can't seem to find any actual blood in the stool, but when she's walking around I sometimes notice a little blood on the entrance of her anus. It will be dry and I'll wet some toilet paper and wipe it off. She hates that lol, but for the most part she's 100% healthy/normal acting. Any advice???
She got fixed in early august and it's now mid October. Idk if that has anything to do with it, but I didn't notice the bleeding until after her spaying.

My boy has had bloody diarrhea for at least 6 months. My vet did tests gave him drugs (which he hated) Then I happened upon a video that said bright red was a rear end problem, and blood resembling coffee grounds was the front end. My guys blood was bright. I did some research and found that CBD helps with bowels and was the beginning, I also found out about the colloidal silver for the diarrhea. I got both and now he is producing firm poop and no blood. CBD for cats can be purchased at pet stores, colloidal silver I bought at an essential oils and vitamin store. I gave him 1/2 an eye dropper of each once a day. He weighs 15.5 pounds, 2 yrs of age. It took about 5 days to clear up, I kept going for a week.
He and I are both very happy.

my cat is 13 and she had blood in her poop. It wasn't to much but it was a fair amout and shes been acting even more playful than usallly and is sleeping with me playing with her toy balls. Shes been eating and drinking. Shes been doing it for like a week on and off nut very playful and seems healthy but not sure?
it sounds like she is otherwise well so hopefully it will pass. If not then it's something that might need looking into closer

By seeing the coat she’s doing fine, and last time long time ago she went to vet for blood stool was worm, the vet deworm her and give her pepto bismol 🥺
impossible to say without seeing her. if she's well and it passes then not to worry. If it's a persistent problem or you cat is unwell then a checkup will be needed

@@Russki007 yes I did ! We went to the vent and their doctor gave them these antibiotics pills that they have to swallow (me putting it down their throats lol) but yeah after those, their poop returned to normal. They also had probiotics added to their food.
@@Victoria-gd4bw Glad to hear that! This happened to my 8 month kitten last night, I was pretty scared and all vets were closed. So I went online for some answers. He had diarrhea and some blood on top of it. But he acted normal and had his usual appetite. Checked today and he had diarrhea again but no blood this time. So yeah I'm going to be monitoring him closely hopefully he has no more blood.

He's been on a specific diet, he's been on antibiotics, prebiotics, he's a healthy and active cat but he's been showing mucus in his stools for over a year. I really dont know what else to do! you can get diarrhea with a change of diet, especially if it's changed quickly. If it continues though or your cat is in any way not 100% then a check will be a good idea

I have the same problem but with 5/6 week old kittens. Im feeding them dry food rn (and milk) and waiting for their poop to turn solid so i can give them wet food ..

My cat had some bloody mucus drop from his butt the other day. He doesn't ever had diarrhea and he's not throwing up or tired. Other than the blood drip the other day he's been perfectly himself. I haven't noticed blood In his poo again but he did bleed as a kitten. I believe it was from trauma he received from a bad neutering and infection he received after as a young kitten. I believe he could have a sensitivity to the food I was feeding him last week because I changed his food this week and he's eating more now. Could he have been bleeding as a reaction to something in that food?
Really unlikely and as it was just once and he’s otherwise fine it’s unlikely anything to worry about

Sounds like collitis which can be caused by the things discussed in this video.

some cats are sensitive to row meat/chicken. Try to give them boiled chicken or warm their food before they eat it. Works well
