Thankfully impacted anal glands and anal gland abscesses are pretty rare in cats, and tumors are even less common. When problems do arise though they can be very painful for your cat

I just got home the vet. Let me tell you a ruptured anal gland is very scary. The abscess has to be cleared of neurotic tissue. And left a huge whole of which my vet wasn’t worried about. She said it will heal. So sad I’ve never had this problem before with any of my cats. I just hope she’s okay and this issue doesn’t return. And from what I can tell it could be a returning issue.

How old is your cat. Mine us 8. She had A nal Sack Surgery about 8 months ago. Something I knew NOTHING about. She also was sent home with a gapping hole. That stupid cone thing, unfortunately, I believe it it starting again. Have a vet apt. tomorrow at 10am. This time I had an idea what to look for, but even this vet says once it happens they should be regularly checked every few months.

This issue hasn’t returned but I have seen my cat licking the area. I actually expressed her anal glands and that seemed to help the issue and she stopped licking after a few days. I always keep an eye on her and look for any signs of redness or irritation. Licking is the first sign there may be a problem. But like all cats they often hide when they are experiencing discomfort. That’s what happened last time she was hiding under the bed and came out with blood all over the place. It broke my heart. But so far thankfully she has been okay.

@@leelulady2010 , I’m not sure as I’ve not visited the Vet as I believed the problem was going to or am hoping resolves itself. I noticed the brother cat age 7 yrs scooting and immediately checked his backside. He had very crusty looking bum bum hole which I couldn’t believe I didn’t notice. We are very close that he sleeps and sits with me when I’m home which was presently in the evening, now daily as I’m in between jobs. So I wanted his bum and cleaned him up and tried to squeeze the anal glands that I barely could feel. He excreted very very little and the smell was overpowering but he’s like our child so I only feel sadness for him and wasn’t offended in the least. He wasn’t happy but I noticed the next day his car box shared only with his sister as containing several flat patty type anal glands type poops, large patties. It thought we were good. Today I noticed more crusting and he’s still slightly more lethargic and he’s sensitive of me looking. That said I will again wash and pay dry his behind and keep watch for resolution. After that I will take him to the vets as it’s $160 for the visit only but only want the best for Preston who’s our love, my oldest’s cat and such a affectionate boy. Any information is great, as his glands were not felt so I worried it might not be that but the smell is unmistakable. Maybe where he’s a good 16 lbs things are just off? Idk. Pls help anyone in helping me understand, as a long retired Vet Technician we rarely saw cats with this ailment and if there was one, it was obvious his or her problems. Ty♥️🐱♥️🐱♥️

I came home, called in my 10year old for a brushing, and noticed a huge hole next to her anus. I though she had been bitten by our dog.Had no idea this was an issue with cats. An emergency trip to the vet, and $500 later, they squirted some saline in it, and sent her home.i am glad I had her treated, but was pretty expensive for a 10 minute visit, with no surgery, stiches, or medication.

I have two cats. My older I have always dealt with his glands for him and it works well. My younger has never had issues. Super flat glands. He just turned 7 in august and I recently noticed his left gland was pea sized. I have tried expressing, like I do with his brother, but nothing. Until today, I got some out and it was very light coloured but very waxy. Should I keep an eye on it or is this something that we need to deal with at vets asap? He didn’t seem in pain while I pressed, just not comfortable/ doesn’t love his bum hole touched lol.

    • @MsScarletwings
      @MsScarletwings 3 года назад +1

That’s not a lot of information. Is this gunk yellow or white and/or thick? *Is it coming with a foul odor? Is it coming from a wound?* if you answer these questions with a yes it would be in your cat’s interest to schedule in a visit with the vet. Outdoor cats are kind of prone to getting infections and injury. You don’t want to let it get worse if that’s the case.
Mine had fluid coming out of a wound behind her ear once that progressed into an abscess without us knowing immediately. Similar story months later with her foot. Antibiotics and potential stitches. If possible I’d really *really* encourage you not to let your cat outdoors without any supervision. Best of luck!

My cat had been constipated for a while and the vet flushed her out. But now her medicine is out shes struggling again to go. Like shell fuss at the litter tray, going in and out , the looks like she does go but it's small lumps.... not a usual cat stool .... and shes been "scooting" as you call it. She just doesn't look at all comfortable. Do you think it might be the glands? If I relieve that will she be more comfortable to go? Like if she jumped on my lap but fell off and didn’t poop and cleaned her butt a-lot more. I went with mom but we had to be in the car because of covid. I kept trying to bring up checking her back legs. They said their was no problem. Just gave her an enema and said sometimes heart murmur can cause constipation. Can you please tell me if what they did was a reasonable mistake or too much. Because tbh I really want to bring her somewhere else. Mom only went because that’s where we got her as a kitten. My cats 10 and I’m scared they’ll recommend something bad for her if we go to the same place. We cried coming back home bc we thought she was gonna die soon, but now I feel like I’ve been tricked.

@@DistantClover I'm so sorry they ignored it. As far as I understand, extracting the excess liquid from the glands is a common procedure and will help prevent an inflammation. Maybe make an appointment with another vet specifically for checking and relieving the glands?
Last night I had to take my cat to the vet since the gland had become inflamed, she is alright now, doctor said she won't need a surgery, but still if I only had noticed the signs and taken her in earlier, the whole process would have been a lot more pleasant. I have no idea how long has she been suffering, since she had been acting very unusual (lethargic, licking her backend) only the last couple days.

@@marcgamatero5863 The vet will have a stronger antibiotic than any over the counter. If cat is dirty, give bath, make sure all the litter and pus and poop and all are off of the wound, cut the fur back around the wound so you can see it clearly, do not shave, because you don't want infected hair follicles, but trim it down to where you can see skin and get it clean. I then apply Neosporin CREAM, NOT the clear, vaseline-looking stuff, the white stuff. Keep an eye on the cat, try to keep him from licking it all off, but know that he will try to lick it off. EACH TIME When he pees or poops, CLEAN him or her with a wet wipe (baby wet wipe) OR depending how messy, a brief bath. then RE-apply the Neosporin. This is until you can get them to the Vet. Then the Veterinarian will probably express the gland, sew them back up or whatever needs done and send you home with more instructions.

I think they are suspecting possible pancreas but the test would require her to fast for 12 to 16 and the doctor says she would be fine but having kidney disease and all her problems I wouldn’t want her to fast for hours. if your cat is otherwise happy and well, eating and drinking with no vomiting then try feeding a bland diet of blended chicken and rice or pasta, also make sure he is up to date with worming. If that doesn't help, or your cat is at all unwell then he really needs to see a vet. Simple diarrhoea will generally clear up without treatment in a few days.
If his bum is sore then cleaning it then applying petroleum jelly or a barrier cream like sudacrem can help protect the skin from further scalding

I'm worried about my cat now. Because she is overweight and constantly has a lil poop on her bum. I'm always having to clean her I think she's too fat to properly clean herself. She's been on a diet that's been vet recommend but she barely has lost weight in the 6 months. I'm still sticking to the diet but lately she has become excessive with trying to lick the poo off of herself. (poor girl is never successful lol) and she also will scoot her bottom on rugs and furniture occasionally to try to get it off 🤢
(I never overfed her or anything btw she is a rescue, she came overweight and has since been put on a diet so I'm trying to get her sorted out)
Another thing worth mentioning is she's never covered her poo although I am not sure if that's an alpha issue or not because she was around other cats prior to me. Her poo is always kinda slimy looking soft serve for the most part. Although some days it's regular and firm.

She's had BAD abscesses, to the point that one side now has so much scar tissue it actually doesn't clog anymore. But, I have to get her expressed every 16-18 weeks or she clogs up again. It's so annoying. She's got constipation issues, not doo-doo that's too soft.

I am genuinely terrified at the amount of pet owners in the comments asking to get medical advice for serious issues with their animals that should have been seen by their own vets in person already. A RUclips channel can’t physically examine your cat’s strange, oozing wound or poop worms, let alone give out treatments! Please schedule the visit!

Have called our regular vet +5 others. Earliest available appointment is a week away so obviously we're looking for ways to treat and make her more comfortable in the meantime.

Not everyone is financially stable enough to just take their pet to the vet. Gosh a lot of people can’t even afford their own healthcare!

Your microphone setup that you have in front of your face is so annoying I like to see who is talking to me who is letting me know this information but that damn microphone is a eyesore I'm only one and a half minutes in the video and I can't watch it anymore and you're getting a thumbs down
