How about focusing on creating healthy gut flora instead of medications

My cat gets the worst diarrhea from probiotics two different vets had her on as well as gut biome food. The cause of her problems are a mystery. Only metronizonol 2x a day 110 at .25 Mark works.

The problem with my cat was dry food that caused her gastric intestinal problems. Now she has not been throwing up since I only give wet food.

I'm here because my cat has IBD. But she had a reaction to any food that has fish oil. It is hard to find cat food that doesn't have fish oil, and they are all super expensive.

My vet did lab tests of pancreatic enzymes and creatinine and BUN- kidneys. If kidney tests r on border of high levels that causes acid reflux - which shows up as vomiting after eating. The dr suggested using OTC Pepcid AC pediatric. Comes in 10 mg tablets. Only give 5 mg. Once a day. Can crush n mix w turkey or beef broth ( chicken meat n broth usually is the culprit of food allergies) and mix and give with an oral syringe same time every day. For life. Mixing just w plain water- usually the crushed pill tastes bitter. Can also get your dr to rx omeprazole 10 mg to you. ( say u have ibs symptoms). Your ins or copay will be very low. $5 every month.

I'm so frustrated. I adopted a cat 11/28/23. She has had chronic diahrrea. We have done probiotics, gut biome food, allergy foods, negative for parasites, negative on ultrasound. She came from a hoarding situation now she's having her fecal tested in Texas for pancreatic, food malabsorption and Tritrichomonas foetus. She is also on her second round of metronidazole. Nothing is working, nothing. The gas is horrible. It sounds like a hose in her box and she has gas over and over every hour. She acts fine, drinks constantly and swallows hard and makes an odd sound eating. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks God for pet insurance.

@@Jojo-nr9ov so she was on metronizonol for a month. She started going formed. She just stopped. Still in the hydrolyzed food and now started with gas again. I am hoping it will not return. It was so bad before she smelled like a cow. I felt like I was kissing a fart.

@@namaakotb2629 Ok so here it is. Got the cat from a shelter. Came from a hoarding situation. I would never recommend getting a cat from that situation. She was tested several times for parasites, it was always negative. She was on probiotics for a long time and a few times and it made diahrrea worse. We paid 1200 for an ultrasound (luckily I had bought pet insurance at adoption and she was not listed as having a pre-existing condition so it was covered. That too was negative. Negative for pancreas insufficiency and for the foteus parasite (had to send fecal to a place in Texas). She was put on Purina hydrolyzed food and metronizonol 2x a day. The first amount was too low but seemed to help. They moved her to 2x a day of 150 mg/ml suspension, 15ml give .25 ml by mouth every 12 hrs. This and the food is the only thing to make her have formed stool and stop bad gas. I tried stopping after a month and it immediately came back. I am putting her back on the meds (was told the meds des have some anti-inflammatory properties). I am bringing her this week to the vet. She will have her thyroid checked and potential allergy testing. They suggested a scope upper and lower with biopsies. It would be $4100-5000 range. I am not doing that and if she has intestinal lymphoma would not do chemo so why bother. I was also told by a high end specialized vet do not give the cat steroid shots. It has a whole host of issues including can give them diabetes. I will keep you posted after upcoming visits. I'm not sold on the allergy food because without that med she still was gassy started going soft. The specialized vet also said that she may have to be on the metronidazole for the rest of her life it's for what they called to treat antibiotic responsive diarrhea. Without it it is gas, diahrrea, excessive eating and drinking and drips from bowel on floor.
