- Building your own DIY Workshop isn't that difficult. Ours is on a Mountainside which makes it a little more challenging. If you can measure, cut, drill and chisel you can do this too. Having the additional work area will be nice and a lot of building tools will be here. Follow along our journey here on the main channel. Howdy folks, great day in The Smokys. Looks good around there and really enjoyed the building project, it's coming right along. You all shared a great mealtime with us too, good food and entertainment. Always appreciate your clean humor and the fabulous work you all do around there. Stay safe and keep up the great videos. Fred.
Thank you, Fred!
Another great video, love the timber frame work you do - truly a learning experience. The jokes were the best yet - I can't believe Richard correctly answered Jennifer's question "What has four wheels and flies?"
I can't believe it either!!!! Thanks for following. -Jennifer

So glad you called a tie. I needed that one! -Jennifer
I like your wood construction process and videos they are very informative. Thanks Vinod Patel
Thank you!
Like seeing you take some time to spend with your dogs. They are your best friends no matter what is going on in life. Your project is looking real nice. Having done quite a bit of bridge construction years ago, often when wanting to bolts things down, so as not to take the chance of hammering in a bolt anchor and splitting the concrete. It was common practice to drill your holes oversize, & apoxy them in. Great videos!
Thanks!
Nice video as always, take care😊
Thanks, Irene!
nice video buddy,
Thank you. Looks like a nice day in Tennessee
bout time, we need a few @@SmokyMountainOutpost
You all are just too funny! My wife and I just adore everything you have accomplished in the last three years. I wasn't sure if having all the darkened, scorched wood on everything was going to look right. I thought it would end up looking like the cheap 1980's paneling. I was wrong. It definitely gives the homestead a timeless appearance and a warmth you rarely see in any modern buildings. I am a convert.
Glad you are converted, lol! Thanks for following. -Jennifer
Bravo!
Thanks!
Love it !
Thanks!
Great job greetings from the Netherlands

Do you have any problems with cracking or twisting with the beams? Boy those two dogs really enjoy being with you Richard, I think you have them a little spoiled lol. As always I enjoyed watching Richard.
Hey Richard! The beams do well for the most part, but they do crack some (as does all wood). Thanks for following! -Jennifer
👍👍👍
Thanks!

How about those safety glasses - they seem to be working really good!
Sometimes.
Your saw blades are dulling faster than need be because of the dirt in the bark. Peel the bark off the leading edge where the blade enters and they will last longer. Also, found Jennifer's twin on Lumnah Acres!
I don’t have the time to chip away bark where the blade runs unless I did the whole tree. That would take to much of my time. But I understand what you’re saying. Some mills have a blade that runs ahead of milling blade just for that purpose.
Just some food for thought, Richard. Do you treat the end grain of your pegs after you've driven them in? End grain absorbs moisture like a wick, even from the humidity in the air. They might benefit from some extra oil treatment when you're done setting them.
My opinion's worth about a nickel, though!😊
That’s probably not a bad idea
How do you make microchips? With little buffalos!
LOL. I love it!
Richard, please wear your safety glasses!
👍🏴
Thanks!
👍
Thanks!

how long do you season your wood. do you cut the tree down then mill and build?
Pretty much just cut, mill and build. I don’t have the time to let it dry, or I wouldn’t have any videos, lol. A lot of the early pioneers built with green lumber and it didn’t seem to bother them. So that’s pretty much how I’ve built the whole Homestead.
Goodvone Richard, too many ears.😊
Thanks!
I have often wondered that I notice you never treat the cut ends. Is that a concern?
Usually the ends get covered with some sort of caulking material or another layer of wood like trim sometimes. I have treated several ends, but sometimes they can get missed also. I do them when I feel that they are a concern.
Hi Guys! Could you name that bluegrass song in the intro. I have been looking for it for some time.
Let me talk with dad and I will get back to you, Ted. Hope you are doing well! -Jennifer
Thank You!@@SmokyMountainOutpost

You can only ran, because it's past tents.
