My wife plays piano so I bought the virtual piano app and it’s incredible how it works so accurately on our piano. I can’t play piano, so will start to learn using this app. Very clever.
It's good, but still not perfect. The artifacts are still far from the passthrough that many would like to see, simply because of current camera sensors. Newcomers to AR will immediately notice the fragmented representation in it and the warping effects and certainly out of ignorance will immediately criticize this. Even though I like the applications in passthrough, the passthrough is unfortunately not yet at the level where it needs to be. So you can't rate it as positive in my eyes yet. But I think you manage to explain this mode great to people again. High praise.
Got the Quest 3 on release day never ever tried VR before and wow blown away absolutely amazing, really please with the whole experience. Also Tetiana just to say love your excitement, appraisal and whole explanation with all your videos. Well done indeed.
I admit, I'm very impressed by the Quest 3's passthrough. I walked throughout the house and into our rumpus room", which is down a tiny flight of stairs. Like you, Tetiana, I was amazed at the fact that I didn't have to (much) think about reaching for the things before me or walking down those stairs before doing so. Yes, the passthrough still a bit grainy, but that may be able to be at least a little improved through software updates (Pico managed that). Overall, though, it's amazing how much clearer this passthrough is than the Quest 2's, and it's not just because the 2's passthrough was in black and white. That said, and as much as I like the new passthrough features, Meta really needs to QUIT using their "accessories" as a way to get more money out of their buyers, and instead include the things that a headset this price should automatically come with. Smaller form factor notwithstanding, wearing the Quest 3 with what I am once again referring to as the "Meta Jock Strap" still feels just as much like I'm belting a brick onto my face as it did with the Quest 2. For me, at least, getting a third party solution is a MUST, because the included strap is ridiculous, and Paying $150 to replace it (a price, by the way, that gives 3rd party companies permission to overprice their own Quest accessories), is really pretty insulting. As to the ongoing discussion re. the Vision Pro "versus" the Quest 3: I'm nobody's version of an Apple "fangirl"; I've literally never owned an Apple product, and have not yet found a reason to do so in all the years I've been messing with phones and computers. But I find all the "concern" about how Apple's headset is going to fare among average buyers--despite Apple repeatedly saying that the Vision Pro is NOT designed to attract/pull in (at least directly) the average consumer--simultaneously amusing and annoying. Whatever else is true of Apple, their users tend to be loyal to Apple and the "Apple Lifestyle/Ecosystem". Even if the average Apple product consumer ends up buying a Quest 3 this year, if and once Apple starts refining and creating more consumer-aimed and oriented VR/AR headsets, those same customers are going to flock right back to that future headset in droves, extra cost notwithstanding. Why? Because, Apple will, by that time, have created a headset that fits so well into the rest of the Apple ecosystem that many, if not most of those Apple users will find that future headset irresistible--just as they have many of Apple's other products. The Vision Pro is, and is intended to be, aimed at professionals and FOMO's with enough money to spend on it, and/or intentions of developing more apps that will ultimately make Apple's future AR/VR products irresistible to their future headsets' consumers--and it's why Apple said from the very beginning that they didn't even plan to produce mass market numbers of the Vision Pro. To put it bluntly, Apple doesn't really care if the plebeians think the Vision Pro is "too expensive". It's really not for them, and was never meant to be. But you can bet that, within a generation or so, whatever Apple VR/AR headsets are produced will be aimed more and more toward consumers, and will be produced in numbers that confirm that. Likely, with sales that justify it. This is a reality that many tech pundits once again seem to be ignoring. Indeed, it's as if the you all think that this is the first time Apple has ever introduced a product into their ecosystem that's had a very high price--only to then turn around and create more affordable versions of same (with refinements) that not only sell like hotcakes to the people who are already in their ecosystem, but which draw new users into AppleWorld as well. That's not a glitch, folks; that's a feature. Anyway, great discussion as always, Tetiana; thanks for sharing your experiences and inspiring potential new VR users to take that step into new worlds! '
Sidenote to new VR/AR users: you may not be blown away by the passthrough - but it's still miles better than anything before it, outside of 3000 dollar+ headsets basically :p I like it a lot, but I also am keenly aware of what came before, so to say. Just don't go in expecting Apple Vision-style passthrough quality if you're new to this and haven't ever seen anything like it.
Big Agree! Im able to text, glance through books, and pet my cat all withoit leaving VR. It is the new gold standard for pass-through and I cant go back to anything else.
The text on my phone or books or my ps screen is utterly unreadable in pass through, I have plenty of of light, there is definitely something weird causing these difference experiences.
I got a Meta Quest 3 recently and the pass through quality is not even close to the shown in the video it is grainy and closer to the one shown as quest pro from this video. The pass through after 5 minutes gave nausea to everyone in the house (3 people). I am still searching to see if I am missing configuration or what else can be.
My pass through on my Q3 is absolutely terrible..fuzzy grainy..a lot of people are having the same issues..just curious on all the vr channels on RUclips I am subscribed to post how amazing it is, my place is very well lighted and to me it almost as bad as Q2 pass through but in colour
Same by me. Though the recording using the camera app outputs significantly better image quality than what it really looks like while putting on. And the render resolution in most MR scenarios is terribly low.
I have the same issue but here's a tip, if you record on your quest 3 in passthrough and view the recording, you might see that the quality is substantially better than what you actually see through those lenses. So you might be able to use that to determine weather or not its a defect I have and my recording was so much better so im afraid its just the sad reality
I have both devices Pro and Quest 3. It's an improvement over Pro for sure. Passthrough doesn't look this good under normal circumstances. You need bright lights to get this quality. Most RUclipsrs showing this off are using bright light setups. Turn a few lights off. It gets pixelated with bad exposure.

the actual quality od quest 3 passthrough is 60% worse than the recorded and exported video, the divice recor in high qulity, but is not at all what your eyes see, that is something not mentioned in the video. But tbf much better than Quest 2 and Quest Pro. Most people don't use bright white light, which is the only type of light that helps the device reduce grain and sharpness. Quest 3 is the best VR MR device on the market right now, and I love mine, but Quest 4 will be the one -I hope- with a clear passthrough.
For me, my goal passthrough looks horrible. I swear to god if anyone says it’s my lighting I’m gonna go crazy because I have tried every lightings its still bad
Your correct. Its better than the Pro but not by much. Pixelated with bad exposure. Looks great in a really bright room with studio lighting. Thats not the setup most people have. Its a few generations from being good.
I bought a $30 LED lamp that gets my living room bright. Definitely helps. But watching the much nicer looking playback videos is definitely shifting expectations.
I cant get the passthrough to look newrly as good as what i see in videos like this. Even when i turn on a bunch of lights its grainy and blurry. I can barely read my phone and i mean barely
I have not yet played with the Quest 3 as I have not been able to afford it yet. Currently I only have a Quest 2 (1st generation that still has the "Oculus" logo on it) but I will be looking to upgrade to a Quest 3 since its graphical power increase of atleast 40% over the Quest 2 is definitely worth it for me. A shame that the Quest 3 FOV is still more or less the same as on the Quest 2. Oh btw congratulations on becoming a mommy. :)
What you're showing in the video is the quality of video recording on the Quest 3 compared to the past devices. But the actual Passthrough experience is about how the quality is when a person is looking through the lenses. For a lot of people it appears to be blurry or grainy. I can use my phone with my Q3 but it is so blurry that I need to bring the phone close to my headset to make sense of the texts. This only appears through the Lens and not while recording the passthrough. Could you make a video of "Though the Lens" ???
This!!!!!!. Not sure why im not seeing more comments about how terrible the passthrough quality is for what you actually see. Admittedly this is my first VR set since the OG rift so i didnt know what to expect in terms of the passthrough system but i was sold on the recordings of passthrough, not realizing what you actually see in the lenses are akin to a 240p 2003 web cam. Ive tried all the settings and light in my room i could get and nothing, still terrible quality. Anyone got any ideas or do i have a defective unit?
@@kylebabjak7457 I have the same problem. I don't know why the youtubers have much better passthrough graphics than mine. Mine is low resolution and has lot of noise even when I use it in the morning with a lot of sunlight. I can't even read my phone.
There should be a way to record exactly what you see in the headset, as that is more important. What you see is nowhere near as clear as the recordings, like in this video, when you cast to your phone or another device.
A little bit of skepticism is in place here. I have a quest 3 and while it is perhaps one of the best available out there, the graphics quality of passtrough is still a bit mediocre at best... There is a huge difference between the passthrough image quality VS the quality of the VR rendered images of the games. The latter I would call "good" but also not perfectly sharp yet (yes pixels are still visible), although an upgrade from quest 2.
7:27 - Apple is worth more than 2 trillion dollars. Even if they lost 1 billion dollars on the Vision Pro it would only be a drop in the bucket for them. They know they are going to lose money on the first gen device. They are in it for the long game.
How much light do you truly need for a decent experience? I have my overhead light on and a floor lamp on and it’s still pretty grainy looking and kinda soft. The tv looks completely blown out because there is too much contrast from the room and tv? I don’t know. Just wonder if it could be a bad headset?
As a retired guitar instructor, I can't even imagine how that would work. A piano is as simple as pressing the piano key down on a linear plane. Guitar has finger positioning, and over 6 parallel planes that aren't directly in your view. The distance between strings is mere milimeters apart at the angle you are looking at them when learning to play. Would be significantly harder than the piano learning software.
I'm seeing a lot of people be disappointed with the Quest 3 pass-through quality, it was definitely over hyped and caused way too high expectations. Also, Quest 3 may be capable of the same things as the Vision Pro, but Vision Pro definitely has wayyyy better pass-through, at least according to every account I've seen. How does it compare to the Pico 4 passthrough though? Similar? Way better?
Guys.... MQ3 has 4Mpix cameras. 4Mpix it's around 2500x1600 pixels. Watching this on smartphone will look nice and crisp but in reality physically just can't be nice and sharp. Human field of view eyes 'resolution' is about 500Mpix but the area you are actually looking in front of you only about 13-16Mpix. That's the knowledge rest is a really simple math that even a kid can do - compare 4 to 13...
Yeah, no. The quality is 💩 even with sunshine coming through the windows. There is no amount of light that makes it look decent. You get either blown out highlight and the rest of the image is grainy, or you get all giant grain everywhere. There must be two versions of this headset...
It's 2x 4MP cameras so don't expect too much from the videos on RUclips, passthrough cameras are like old nokia its not good but its not the worst, you can use keyboard on PC easily. Cheers
I'm Quest2 user, yesterday set up my new Q3. Passthrough however not at all comparable with Q2, but still sharpness not ideal and some blurriness noticeable . Can read text from my phone and comp. Was reading about in future updates it will be improved. For sure do like Q3 a lot...once it in hands forget about to use Q2.
Not true! You cannot read text with the pass through. It's low quality video! This lady must have been paid by meta because she's giving it a better review than it deserves.
@@jayryan7473 Hello. If you holding close enough to eyes then phone / comp very easy to read for me. And totally sharpness not close to comparable to Q 2, You Tube videos much sharper for example.
Hello DiscoVR, I’m getting a meta quest 3 for Christmas but I would like your honest opinion on the full colour passthrough. Some people are saying it’s bad and the other people are saying it’s good
Quest 3 pass through is better than the quest 2s but this RUclipsr DEFINITELY over exaggerates it. It's not how she makes it out to be. Also pass through looks a lot better when it has been recorded.
I'm not sure which one I should buy. The quest 3 is to expensive for me so I have to dicide between the quest 2 to and pico 4. Which one would you recommend?
Im going through my second headset because of quality control, some headsets have better pass through than others, and some are coming with defective controllers
The passthrough is grainy, even in good lighting. It gets more noticeable as the light in the room dims. It is good enough for playing games, but not as something someone would just wear around the house and have seamless mixed reality. The vibrant MR games draw attention from the passthrough shortcomings, so that experience is good.
Are these software recordings or hardware recordings from outside the quest 3 lenses? It still looks grainy but it's for some reason less apparent in your video. I've heard the quest 3 is getting a software update to increase quality of the passthrough because the cameras can handle a higher res, they're just not using it + there was something about learning the environment and mapping things out in a virtual space instead of doing 100% passthrough.
I tried piano vision on quest 2. Well, not great, because you have to calibrate height, width and it was difficult. Also hand tracking was bad for pressing keys.
every video I just see comparisons between quest 2, pro and 3, I have an old quest 1 with broken controllers hahaha. I just think its funny how dead the quest 1 is, and allways when I have passthrough on qith Quest 1 I literally get sick, would love to get a quest 3, but I dont have the money sadly
This is complete bullshit. How much were you paid by Meta to make this video??? The recorded passthrough and actual live passthrought are way WAY different. Live passthrough is GRAINY and I have STUDIO LIGHTING.
It’s a very good pass through for the price. Only thing missing is is a iOS that lets me do whatever I want. Like watch my streaming service without going through loop holes and the screen it ok but not OLED. I would pay more for OLED.
Have you used the Lynx R1? I paid the money 2 years ago in the Kickstarter, and Stan said I won't be receiving my headset this year. A Quest 3 in the hand is better than a Lynx that hasn't been manufactured yet.
Apple is doing what they've always done. They release a high quality version for their first release and stimulate the industry. Their goal isn't to sell a lot of headsets for the initial release. It's more to set the ground work for the future
I have the quest pro and 3 and I actually prefer the passthrough on the pro. The ports colours look more accurate to me and although it is grainier, the 3 looks very over processed which I find quite distracting. Even though the pro doesn't have the depth sensor once I had setup my room it did the same things as the 3. I also paid £480 for both headsets brand new.
Really? I've seen comparisons and the Pro passthrough looks awful next to the Quest 3. Pro has way more distortion, less resolution and it has color overlay, not true color.
According to upload vr he has tried it and it aint even close. Quest 3 passthrough has nothing on apple. Upload vr does not like quest 3 passthrough/mr quality
Can I ask you, when you say a well lit room exactly what exactly does that mean? Nobody ever defines those terms. Question? Would an infered light or something like that be of some benefit? Thank you.
Good question. I saw the best MR visuals when I was in my livingroom where I have a huge window and lots of natural light. Natural light does better than artificial. You see artificial light in my video, and you see a bit more grain in the headset than in the recorded footage. In a room with lots of natural light the grain is minimal. Hope that answers your Q. As for infrared light, that is an interesting idea! But it would probably help more with tracking rather than passthrough quality IMO.
Thank you for the Quest Pro comparisons. Re. the Apple Vision, the Quest 3 is $1K+ after add-ons and accessories. I'd rather deal with the shortcomings of the Pro and wait for Apple Vision.
the passthrough quality is still worse than normal eyesight of a person with thick glasses. All these people saying its the best ever are insane it basically lowers the quality of your regular eyes so you can have a floating screen....jesus christ these products are horrible.
Its because all you tubers are showing the cast footage from the quest 3 to phones etc , and this footage looks miles better then what u see through yr quest headset
@@nbkicker7665The point here is that the Quest 3 pass though is vastly better than the Quest 2 pass though. Vastly better! It’s still a pass through though, a very specific application, and it’s unfair (and idiotic) to compare it to a high end generic camera.
@@alexdimo60 yes but meta are pushing this is a mixed reality headset, and i dont think it helps when every place puts out the cast footage from the headsets, when the actualy footage you see through the lenses looks no way as good as the cast footage, for me i was disappointed when first got it after seeing all the online reviews and i own psvr, psvr2 , rift s and a quest 2 and now 3, yes its better then quest 2, but it nothing like the footage everyone posting online, which always looks clear and sharp
@@nbkicker7665 In my own experience, I don't see a big difference between the recorded footage and the actual passthrough. The fact that I can see my phone screen or even my Apple Watch through the headset is a HUGE improvement. Obviously it's not HD and it would be unrealistic to expect that from tiny, energy efficient, cameras but seeing people calling this passthrough "crap" is an unreasonable overreaction.
It's not that bad. Yes, if you were expecting 4k quality with amazing low light capability then of course you think it will look terrible. What could you expect for a $500 device?
Equally though while it doesn't seem like good passthrough, consider how much better it is than the quest 2 passthrough, and for people that were already impressed with the ar experience on the quest 2 ( such as myself) the upgrade would feel massive. So in that way you can probably understand why they are hyping it up.

@@kylebabjak7457 I have the same problem. I don't know why the youtubers have much better passthrough graphics than mine. Mine is low resolution and has lot of noise even when I use it in the morning with a lot of sunlight. I can't even read my phone.
I'm a reluctant apple user for mobile phones, but you're mistaken about the vision pro. It's absurd to even compare it to the Quest 3.
There should be a way to record exactly what you see in the headset, as that is more important. What you see is nowhere near as clear as the recordings, like in this video, when you cast to your phone or another device.
In the headsets I don’t think there’s much difference in the passthrough at all. I am actually quite disappointed in quest 3 passthrough.
They are in it for the long game.
i actually prefer the Quest Pro's passthrough, talking from experience here.
How much light do you truly need for a decent experience? I have my overhead light on and a floor lamp on and it’s still pretty grainy looking and kinda soft. The tv looks completely blown out because there is too much contrast from the room and tv? I don’t know. Just wonder if it could be a bad headset?
That’s normal, mines like that too, this woman is just paid to hype it up.
the passthrough quality is bad even with a lot of sunlight. This lady just another cheater.
There needs to be a guitar app the same as the piano one. Bet it would sell like hotcakes!
@@folv6631 Very true!
Similar? Way better?
does not look like that for me x.x
Im sure, as meta does, they will slowly roll out updates improving the mr experiance
I hope you do a comparison for Lynx-R1’s passthrough. Said to be the very best
Some people are saying it’s bad and the other people are saying it’s good
its awful for me, useable but I wouldn't even get any games for it, still an amazing VR headset though
Quest 3 pass through is better than the quest 2s but this RUclipsr DEFINITELY over exaggerates it. It's not how she makes it out to be. Also pass through looks a lot better when it has been recorded.
Why does my passthrough dont looks like in this video? Its way worse
crazy how it records high quality yet the passthrough itself through the lens is grainy
Its still not as improved as i was expecting. Quality feels like pico 4 for passthrough.
I don't know. It's better but no where near high quality. Not everyone has studio lightning in their house to make it look great either.
Natural light is much better than any kind of natural light in my experience with q3
@@DiscoVRTetiana I don't have any though. Outside my window is a nice brick wall. Lol.
No this is not like how mine is mine is grainy and blurry this is so fake
I'm not sure which one I should buy. The quest 3 is to expensive for me so I have to dicide between the quest 2 to and pico 4. Which one would you recommend?
Quest 2 Is great for the price, go for it.
Looks absolutely amazing
Congratz! :))))
Im going through my second headset because of quality control, some headsets have better pass through than others, and some are coming with defective controllers
So you now have better passthrough Quality? Mine is pretty bad
Is there anyway to make it look any better mines super pixelated
If i understand you giveaway a Quest 3 to a guys who already have a VR headset, nice
Lol... your baby is going to grow up thinking that you are "Seven of Nine" the cyborg from Star Trek. I guess we all are cyborgs with all our gadgets.
Tetiana is it normal to have some grain in passthrough mode from the cameras? Thx.
The passthrough is grainy, even in good lighting. It gets more noticeable as the light in the room dims. It is good enough for playing games, but not as something someone would just wear around the house and have seamless mixed reality. The vibrant MR games draw attention from the passthrough shortcomings, so that experience is good.
@@RiftTravellerI really like it as well. It's pure fun. I also assume that the Apple Vision Pro will have the same problem.
Very exciting stuff.
Also hand tracking was bad for pressing keys.
every video I just see comparisons between quest 2, pro and 3,
I have an old quest 1 with broken controllers hahaha.
I just think its funny how dead the quest 1 is, and allways when I have passthrough on qith Quest 1 I literally get sick,
would love to get a quest 3,
but I dont have the money sadly
The pass-through does look amazing. Ive seen people using it and it looks so good
It looks better in the recorded videos than it does live in the headset
Great video!!
Quest Pro looks so good for $1000.
Not anymore with that old chipset, and it's just too expensive.
@@JohnSmith-ef8nr Was being sarcastic, lol.
How long have you worked for Meta? I have every headset thus far. Big fan.
She doesn't work for Meta.
@@alexdimo60 of course she does.
@@MorganLuscht-yo1zk How do you know?
@alexdimo60 my dear Alex, this is RUclips. This is a business. Please. Grow up.
@@MorganLuscht-yo1zk So you don’t know. You just spew out unsubstantiated nonsense and hope it’ll stick.
Yeah my pass through is grainy as hell
iOS and OLED it would be #1
Why does my pass through look like shit?
and my father had send a text without a reply
This is complete bullshit. How much were you paid by Meta to make this video??? The recorded passthrough and actual live passthrought are way WAY different. Live passthrough is GRAINY and I have STUDIO LIGHTING.
To bad I have to wait 2 years lol. Awsome video again thank you so much for all the love you put in this this
Apples.. is better
Maybe because it cost 3.5 thousand dollars, I don't know ☠️
bruh: "how to win a vr set ? play vr games....."
It’s a very good pass through for the price. Only thing missing is is a iOS that lets me do whatever I want. Like watch my streaming service without going through loop holes and the screen it ok but not OLED. I would pay more for OLED.
Awesome!
Yes
Clearly you’ve not compared it to the Lynx R1 or XR-3 which put the quest 3 passthrough to shame
True but half the price
Have you used the Lynx R1? I paid the money 2 years ago in the Kickstarter, and Stan said I won't be receiving my headset this year. A Quest 3 in the hand is better than a Lynx that hasn't been manufactured yet.
Y is my pass through fuzzy like bad
Apple is doing what they've always done. They release a high quality version for their first release and stimulate the industry. Their goal isn't to sell a lot of headsets for the initial release. It's more to set the ground work for the future
Apple? This isn’t Apple
Peanut
Upload vr does not like quest 3 passthrough/mr quality
is the 128gb enough?
No, unless you only use it for pcvr.
6:33 how do I enter the giveaway if I don’t have a VR
Banter has a Steam client, meaning you can play it on your pc, without VR. Link in the description
Interesting OK thanks.@@DiscoVRTetiana
Nice
Thank you for the Quest Pro comparisons. Re. the Apple Vision, the Quest 3 is $1K+ after add-ons and accessories. I'd rather deal with the shortcomings of the Pro and wait for Apple Vision.
If you can afford $3000 😂 and wait for 2027 launch date LOL
Just try to not scare the baby with that mask, really :)
😂
Q3 passthough is not bad
its horrible
There are still a lot of artifacts in pass through, so it’s not that great 😕
Recording pass through makes it look better because it uses a different camera kinda stupid in my opinion
I cant read my pc when im passthrough can someone help?
its a feature
the passthrough quality is still worse than normal eyesight of a person with thick glasses. All these people saying its the best ever are insane it basically lowers the quality of your regular eyes so you can have a floating screen....jesus christ these products are horrible.
......its like playing on a nintendo 64...
You are lying passthrough is not great , i can barely see my phone screen , stop misleading people .
Lay off the booze buddy. Then you'll be able to see your phone screen.

That sounds like the file size of the PCVR version. The Quest3 version should be around 25-40gb. You will have enough storage for it.

Quest 3 passthrough is complete absolute garbage. Not sure why every youtuber is hyping it up. Are you all getting paid by Meta?
It's not that bad. Yes, if you were expecting 4k quality with amazing low light capability then of course you think it will look terrible. What could you expect for a $500 device?
yeah but it's not even 480p. It's barely 360p and these youtubers are hyping it up like it's the next best thing ever. Complete disgrace@@kelex12
Equally though while it doesn't seem like good passthrough, consider how much better it is than the quest 2 passthrough, and for people that were already impressed with the ar experience on the quest 2 ( such as myself) the upgrade would feel massive. So in that way you can probably understand why they are hyping it up.
are you bashing the headset all because of the passthrough? at least its RGB and you can see everything in live color!
