- I review the AMX 13 90, a tier 9 French light tank in World of Tanks (WoT), with replays of two tier 10 Highway battles.
Viewers have often asked how I deal with wheeled vehicles, in particular the EBRs, when playing a light tank with tracks, so I discuss that in detail. People have also asked me to revisit the 13 90 as I reviewed it before the changes to light tanks in 0.9.18, so I cover the current 13 90 mechanics.

Impressive play and good tactics vs them pesky titanium wheelers and I fully feel the same way with idiots in your team when you play a LT. They expect you to yolo in the open so they can shoot ONE shell, then complain "worst light 2020 dead in 1min". I enjoyed this upload Taugrim +1
Rotating back to base defense is the difference between good players and nubs. Well played, mate. I love seeing smart team play like that.
lol i would've gotten mad at the Obj. 268 asking you to spot at 3:04 ...TDs always expect LTs to die for them.
That 268 player was a dick and a moron. Once I left the bush area because of him, I was somewhat aware he was criticizing me, but I was too busy trying to win the game to chat back at him.
I looked him up, and he's clueless when he plays tier 8-10 lights.
It was also telling that his platoon mate, the EBR 105, said to me kind of accusingly: "how do you still have 100% hp." The reply to that from the 704 was hilarious 🤣🤣🤣.
I saw that too. I have fewer than 2k battles and I know better...but that's probably because i watch so much of you and Lemmingrush
I was getting similar grief from a TD once while in a light tank and mentioned that I had a 60% WR in that specific tank (59 16) with a couple of hundred battles in it and the guy surprisingly replied "oh, sorry, I guess you know what you're doing then"!
Especially when facing a couple of EBRs.
Most people doesn't understand that non-wheelies LTs are at a huge disadvantage again these wheelies. High HE pen, superior mobility and, like Taugrim said, "Captain America" grade wheel modules makes them the king of the hill in the current meta.
DroopSpoot Honestly, as I have gotten better ar the game, I’ve been called a noob more often. Just in the past couple days I’ve had about 5-6 games with people raging at me in chat only for me to come top of the team. Some people just don’t understand that retreating/ staying back can be an option. I had a game where my teammates asking me to spot when I was a oneshot (the game was close) and I knew that if I rushed forward their close to full hp Bourrasque would rape me. So I was patient and their Bourrasque rushed in and he got slaughtered. Never give in to teammates. If they try to be nice when asking you to do something then they may actually be good but if they’re barking orders at you it most likely means they’re garbage
watched this video a few times. mostly because i love my amx13 90. it's a little more flexible than its predecessor, the batchat 12t in that you can work in a little more early damage safely. i think the greatest things you've shown in this video are your willingness to be patient, and your excellent map awareness and tactical flexibility

Thanks. What I find somewhat sad is the the community just assumes that you can't do anything in a tracked light now. You can, you just need to be careful and not allow yourself to get circle-burned by an EBR in the open.
I don't force fights that put me at an obvious disadvantage.

Past couple months I've had so much fun playing this tank. My crew for it is all female started in the amx 12t and moved up the line used for each tank. Also the 268 doesn't understand how to play lights when other team has 2 EBRs. Doesn't excuse his immature behaviour but a problem many non light tank players have. A problem I had with light players for over 2 years because I didn't play lights. I didn't know how to play them and sucked in them. Finally I learned camo/detection and view range mechanics from you and who first told me about you SteelGutsInTN among other great youtuber players. I played lights for 3 months straight and my winrate past 1k battles was over 55% which I'm overall 48.8 so much improved.
What I noticed when I did go back to playing heavies and mediums which I enjoy both but wasn't good at on a regular basis. I started playing better. I was more consistent. So now I play those 3 class tanks (meds,hvys and lights) and my past 1k battles 53.4% with almost double average WN8. Playing lights I average triple my overall WN8. Learning how to play lights correctly made me a overall better player. Take Care brother and great content as usual.
It's great to hear you're able to perform in lights better than other classes. For the majority of players, the opposite is true. Playing lights is all about managing the vision game correctly.
I'm in the same situation as you. At a time when I had a 48.5% overall winrate, I managed to hit 56% in my 13 75 and 53% in by BC-12t. In combination with watching taugrim, playing these LTs made me a lot more conscious of cover, vision, and positioning so in my heavies I don't get outflanked or deleted by TDs anywhere near as often.
Also, I think light tanks help promote a mentality that is very helpful in every tank class in the game. They teach you to play clever: getting side shots, changing position, and avoiding damage trades. Because LTs are so squishy, they teach you the hard way about increasing your survivability, which is a big factor in making a more effective player.
@@taugrim so correct. I should have mentioned my overall stats are very misleading due to my first 6k to 8k battles when I literally had no clue what I was doing in any tank. Before I started my lights only barrage for 3 months ( I admit I'm a tier 8 prem light addict and used to my advantage the crew books to get my crews with 2+skills to start) my recent stats were over 50% and 1 1/2% more than overall wn8. But yes It's weird for me to that I play lights better than any other class. Only 1 or 2 lights in game under 50%. I think I have 1 maybe 2 hvys over 50% and I have been messaged many times after game either telling my great game or that I'm cheating using hacks it's hilarious.
Then there are the serious players I pissed off so bad cuz I outplayed them in my LT-432 with 6+skills or whatever light tank that battle that message and report my game with replay to WG. It's a great compliment to me. I've been told before I was being reported with replay for cheating at least 5 times. lol. In game name is allan_kay

I agree with that. IMO lights can teach players more about the game than any other class. You have to learn the maps inside and out, especially vision lanes.
It's great to hear you've outperformed your account in lights. It's a proof point that you've put in the time to get better. A lot of players never do, and simply whine.

Great contribution creating this guide. Higher tier scouting has just become an exercise in extreme patience. I find all you can do is passively keep the EBRs lit hoping your team will land damage. The one thing you can count on is the yolo wagon players pressing the W key till their finger goes white.
You hit the nail on the head. Be patient, whittle them down. Trying to challenge EBRs directly in a tracked light = death (except for the T-100 LT, which has armor, small size, and low dispersion on-the-move)
You've gotten soft Taugrim. Back in my day, games were won and lost long before we made first contact with the enemy because of friendly fire. Those were the days.

I find using autoaim on wheeled tanks works nice. Fire when they are in a line towards or away from you.
When they turn there is always a window of opportunity, and its easier to make it work when you dont aim manually.
And... autoaim works when you double Bush 😎
I do the same, autoaim then wait. This also negates their Capt America wheels.
Another great lesson in LT zen. This is starting to feel like tank ASMR :)

i didnt yolo E4 on lakeville so a random teammate died - yea a HWK 12 totally would win against a tier 9 lt 10/10 would win. ( went to F4 bush)

I had the idea of playing this tank again yesterday because of wheelies. Been playing a lot of light tanks and wheeled vehicles outbrawl you with their speed, black hole wheels, gun handling and autoloaders. They also flush out aggressive scouting positions. I thought that maybe this tank can make an EBR think twice with its autoloader and now... as if on queue this video pops up!
Just grinding the 1390 for a second time, as it used to be in the BatChat line. It's not much of a grind really. Fun tank to play.

Was I lucky? Sure. Is the shot worth taking? Absolutely.
It's a reasonable shot to take, and I would have dumped as many shells in my clip - up to 4 bites at the apple - to kill him.
@@taugrim Thankyou..yes...it's the speed of your move into and out of the sniper view that amazes...and the way you leave it just after you've taken the shot...it's a mastery, and lovely to watch..

OMG I HAVE NEEDED THIS SO MUCH! I always struggle to hit wheeled vehicles while running at 68kph
I absolutely love the 13 90 but somehow I never realized that it has more elevation over the front hull, so thanks for pointing that out.
What are your thoughts on the 13 105 and how it compares? I'm close to unlocking it but the worse gun handling, smaller clip, and longer interclip and intraclip reloads makes me think the 13 90 might be more fun.
The 13 105 is fun to play. The most odd thing about it is the really lousy hull traverse. A viewer of my review of it pointed that out, and he was right.
That said, 390 x 3 is a lot of fun.
I have an interesting idea, not sure how well people would like it tho xD In terms of the "Captain America Shield" Wheels on the Prem T8, and the Tech Tree T9/10, You could turn those "shields" into part of the hull armor (I.E, if you were to hit an EBR in the wheels, it not only would damage the wheels and decrease the mobility but also deal damage to the tank as if it was the hull side of a normal tank. The wheels, in this case, wouldn't act as spaced armor) Just a thought ;)
That is one solution. I don't really care how it's fixed, but those wheels need to stop preventing damage the way they do.
Hey Taughrim. Really like your LT videos/guides, I watched over the years, watch some older even today, ... Still not the best LT driver, but at least made T-55 missins :D Only problem right now are the EBR and especially tier X that is just absolutely broken. And problem that is in game for as long as I can remember - that 268 guy. Players like him just expect LT to rush and die so he could shoot. That, and when your team gets absolutely steamrolled, meds and heavies do nothing, but guess whos fault it is that they lost - of course its the light tank. I would say that playing LTs shows you sometimes true "skill" of your average WoT player.
I haven't finished the 55a missions yet, so you're ahead of me in terms of progression.

I had to grind through the 13 90 3 times. First when it was a tier 8 to get the Lorraine 40T. Second to get the AMX 30 prot and finally to get the 13 105. Good tank.
Once I was happily driving towards a typical bush with my 13 90. I got HE'd by an EBR 105 because he arrived there long before.
From that moment, I knew the good old days for normal LT were gone.
You have to dial in your approach in a given battle based on the comps, right? If you just do the same thing regardless, you're not adapting.

Now I just play normal LT more conservatively. Even in Prokorovka south spawn, I always presume enemy WV already arrive in front of hill, if there is one, unless he is spotted elsewhere
WV somehow changed the meta by rendering some powerful classic locations vulnerable. Adaptation is truly the key

I just watched a video of yours reviewing the LTG. Would be nice to see an update on that too considering they meet a lot of EBR 75 FL 10's lately.
I basically play sniper schnitzel until the EBRs are eliminated (if).
That Obj 268 though... the thing about stupid people is that they don't know they're stupid; that's what makes them stupid. Great video!

The wheeled vehicles have been a huge nerf to the french lights. You can still perform but I have had to totally reinvent my play style.
I would not wait a second if there was a button that removed them. They have changed the gameplay to much. If there is 2 wheeled vehicles and 3 arty. The game will be awful.
French lights do not have as bad as other nations.

After this vid i played the bc12t stock and got 3.4.k damage and 2k spottingdamage with 5 kills and the ace tanker! really helped a lot.

Great gameplay and advice. Thanks for putting this out. One question though, do you feel this is better overall to the EBR?
The issue with the EBR 90 (and EBR 105) is that it's easy to be effective in it. The AMX 13 90 requires far more finesse and awareness, due to it having an autoloader, the limited gun depression/elevation, and the relatively poor gun handling.

Mine is Unlocked as well as the BC 25t AP, been Unlocked for Months now, but haven't gotten around to Buying just yet.... It's more a Matter of Crews than anything, deciding Move What Crew Up... Have the Bourrasque, hardly Play it because of the Teams, so unfortunately that Crew isn't getting Far.... Have Reasonable Crews in my BC 12T and 13/75 as well, but not sure if I wanna move them because I REALLY Like those Tanks as well and I'd hate to have to Start a New Crew in them.... Yah, it Sucks making the Choices, they're all Bad for One Tank or the Other.... lol
This thing destroyed my ammo rack on the 705A in the first minutes of the game with 2 shots to the turret.

I have the AMX 13 90, but I realized that I was absolutely atrocious at playing light tanks. I'm much better with mediums because most of them have good mobility but are more forgiving of mistakes because their armor is actually usable.
So I've been on a hot streak with the 13 90 this past week since playing it again in earnest:
Battles 77 | WR 71.43% | DPG 1809 | SPG 2.64 | KPG 1.16
That said, the prior 50 battles over the past year, I did not play that well in the 13 90. I think a lot of it was simply not being patient. The gun handling on the 13 90 is still relatively poor. You can't / shouldn't yolo in it.
@@taugrim True. Problem with my play is that I like aggressive flanking plays, and lights are not as suited to that as a wolfpack of mediums.
Hi Taug, whats your view of removing 16x and 25x zoom from game as wargaming did in common test server update 1.9.1
Now it will be difficult to snipe at long ranges and specially weakspots.

I don't use the sniper zooms. I personally found them superfluous as I don't need to look at a target with a magnifying glass.
But I don't think they should be removed as some people are accustomed to using them.
Curious about chat and platoon coordination. You’re pretty active using chat to coordinate w other players and noticed you also use it to talk to platoon mates. What about voice chat? Do you use voice chat at all? I’m not sure how active you are in OTTTER’s clan wars or skirmish. I’d assume they use TS or similar, but maybe I’m wrong?
I use voice chat sometimes, but sometimes I don't use it because our place is small and I want to be considerate to my wife.
Is the 13 105 coming next? I really REALLY hate feeling like I'm a detriment to my team just because I'm either not a god in the 13 105 or not able to compete with the EBR 105.

I am working on 3 marking my AMX 13 90. How would you configure the equipment. Right now I have Commanders Vision (vision slot), Vents (in Mobility Slot) and Binoculars. I am right around 80% and heading towards my second mark. Thanks for the video and advice!
As a middling player I liked and didnt decent (overr 50%) in the AMX 12 and 13 75, but flailed with the B C 12T and ended it there. That was right around when the broken EBRs came out and the BC 12T is IMO very weak and disappointing after the previous two. LT play has gotten too frenetic for me to enjoy.
I like this tank a lot but is EBR better option in current game and is it true whellies will be nerfed?

You were there? This happened in the the past week. I was SOOOO pissed at myself for doing that, very sloppy when I could have just backed down the shelf a little to the side instead of reversing off a drop. 😬😬😬

To tell the truth if I was on the opposite team in the first match and knew I was spotted I would have blind fired the bush before the knot head in the TD rushed it and got spotted.
I'm not really sure why TDs think they need to be right up there when they have the best long range, let someone else spot for you and fire from the back weapons.
Agreed 100% about letting others spot for you in a TD. That 268 literally made the same mistake THREE TIMES 😬. I don't get his thought process.

Frontlines battle mode has helped me deal with the rage these stupid wheelies give me, because the battles are so long, and filled with these little bastards, ive found actually hitting them to be less difficult after 120 front lines battles, it's so annoying though, i honestly think not shooting at them is a harder skill to learn then shooting at them, i mean not shooting at them when it's not going to hit anything. sometimes you just have to wait for them to make a mistake, hit a rock or a building or whatever and slow down a smidge and then let them have it.
i'm not very good, although the one time i did amazing in a battle, was when taugrim was on the team

I reviewed the WZ-132-1 back in Episode #63.
You have to be careful about active scouting in it. It's more of a careful spotting and solid brawler, especially if you only expose its strong turret.

I truly hate this tank now vs my wheeled vehicles before I would be far more active vs now were I usually try to scout but with the new light tanks and the increase speed of both mediums and heavies and how high explosive ammo vs armor which really sucks.
When was HE vs armour changed?
@@yaboiyosef7640 when WG gave wheelies high-pen auto-aimed HE rounds that can pen you when they're in the air after jumping at 90kph and rolling three times without taking damage...
@@timndel 1. High pen HE has always been in the game, and contrary to popular tomato belief, it is actually a more skill oriented mechanic as you need to avoid hitting tracks and knowing armour thicknesses.
2. As a regular light tank player I totally agree wheelies are op but seriously what you mentioned is like a 1 in 20 kinda thing if you actually try them yourself.
Scooby Poo HE penetration wasn’t changed but the amount of module damage it can do and the amount of stun damage it can be done, also light tanks can’t defend against HE module damage and stun unlike a small medium tank can take the upside is that artillery tanks can now be dangerously damaged.

It didn't occur to me. I don't ask for gift kills nor generally give them to others, unless a player so massively carried that I noticed it.

I played the old tier 9 medium, when it was the Lorraine 40t, before that became a tier 8 premium and was replaced by the BC 25t AP. I haven't played the BC 25t AP.
The BC 25t AP plays similarly to the BC 25t in terms of playstyle and tactics. I did a review on the BC 25t back in Episode #31.
TAU can you review T30, I know I know that tank is clunky, but I'm torn apart how to play it in open maps, cause it cannot snipe what so ever

The T30 is great - just play it like a support heavy and you'll be good.
If it wasn't for the painful grind on the BC-12t i would definitely play this LT. but grinding for the BC-25t ap is more than enough dedication on that crappy T8 LT for one lifetime.
Once you unlock the gun upgrade on the BC 12t (18k XP), that tank is under-rated IMO. While the alpha per shot is low, 680 in a clip is solid and the camo is superb.
The batchat 12t is a fabulous tank. Ninja camo, great mobility. You need to conserve your hit points early and forgo doing that early damage. But late game, you can use vision games and mobility to take out isolated damaged ranks. It's a stiletto.

I feel like the weakness of LTs in the era of EBRs is overstated. Yes, EBRs are OP (and bad for the game, imo), but LTs can still play a valuable role. You just have to be careful, which isn't really much different than it's always been. You can't out EBR an EBR, so don't even try.

This is the reason I starting writing guides 14 years ago and making videos 12 years ago. People often just parrot the same mass assumptions instead of THINKING how to solve the problem.

I don't recommend lines to players - it depends too much on your preferred playstyle.

does the amx 13 90 play just like the 75, and is it better than the bc12t?
Yes on both counts. The 13 90 requires a touch more thought because of its longer reload, but it is otherwise nearly identical to the 13 75. The BC 12t is the weak link of the line.
How do you recommend playing Highway in a med/lt when your team lemmings city?
Hard to say, but you can't wholly abandon field or your team will get flanked.
@@taugrim This map is unbalanced; playing field from north spawn is usually a suicide in high tier games, at least on EU servers. So i was really suprised when i watched this video that Taugrim didn't have much problems with it; probably being in a platoon had something to do with it. How i play this map from the north spawn is i either go to the city or i camp in the base, depending on my team and tank that i am plying.
Btw your prefer the mediums or lights?
I enjoy both. When I want to have more punch I queue a medium. When I'm feeling up for spotting, I queue a light.

Lol at the muppet in the 268, always at least one of these morons in every game. I got TK'd by a 4005 in my T-44 for 'doing nothing' after spotting for almost 6k in damage when we had no light on our team. I even eliminated their light right off the bat.
I love my 1390. But if your running a pure scout setup the gun is so bad. Aimtime is ass. Turret trav dispersion is atrocious.

Nope, I shift back to arcade view after each shell. The reason I do it is to see a wider field of view, in case I might miss something I should be aware of.

The 4-shell clip is way better. Higher DPM thanks to the much faster clip reload.

In my experience, the best way of dealing with wheeled sh*ts is a HE/HESH round from my (183) >:D KILL IT WITH FIRE
I was in a normal scout yesterday (Redshire) with a clown car teammate. Right off the bat, he decides to take the passive bush that I was headed for. Now, that is hitting below the belt IMO. An active scout should never do that. He was inexperienced and didnt know proper roles (clown cars are active scouts and flexible) and I tried to explain it to him after game. People in chat were saying "2 scouts in same bush blah blah blah". Really pissed me of.
There are some bushes that are worth passive spotting from, even in a wheelie. But yes, in that situation he should have gone elsewhere so as not to be redundant with you.
Which bushes do you mean BTW? E.g. D6-D7 from north spawn?

The wheels need to be an auto-pen. The entire model needs to be an HP hit box. Also, the clown cars need their own MM. No more 2 normal scouts vs 2 clown car enemies.
Fixing the wheels / hit box would be a great start. I think the low dispersion on the move is over the top too.

Everyone who cries on wheels ''armor'' crit 0 is unaware that this vehicle is high on wheels and the hull is small so the hull is missed so 0 damage,if you want to remove that apply hp damage on external modules, i took 4 consecutives tracks crit 0 in B.C 25T Bourrasque from a fucking JpzE100 but if you want to remove it remove this mecanic for everything in the game.

Overperforming over lights,most of fast tier 10 mediums are better scouts because the have a gun that can work ex:BC25T.
The EBR do not need a nerf but all over tier 10 lights need a buff since long time ago.
And only EBR 105 and EBR 75 Fl 10 are good,every thing else is trash in this line.
Go watch 4tankersanddog video on the wheels. They are incredible protection against HEAT, HESH, and HE.
I personally found all EBR Hotchkiss, Lynx 8x8, EBR 90, and EBR 105 to be all good, and especially the EBR 75 FL 10.

Why do all the "pros" who play this game think that "scouting" is yoloing around in the open and dying in the first 2 minutes? A good scout finds a position to view the field and act on it WHEN an opening presents itself. I swear, WoT has the most toxic shit bags in it.
There's a huge amount of ignorance about how light tanks should be played. It's why I created that 39-min guide back in Episode #41 on light tanks.
@@taugrim I enjoy your videos and I appreciate that your guide lined up to what I "thought" about playing lights. I suck at light tanks because when I used to play, everyone bitches if you actually scout (see play smart, find cover and) vs spot (yolo around the map) so I stopped playing them. That said, I still suck despite knowing how to play mentally, it just doesn't translate always in game. I think I am too aggressive.

I disagree. It was a lot more complicated than that. It was about being smart given I was facing 2 EBRs. Had I tried to challenge those EBRs, I'd likely have died, and we would have lost.
How to deal with wheeled vehicles in the game? CTRL-ALT-DEL , Shut down WOT - go to Programs and uninstall the game. Tactics and skill will occasionally win the day, but in general they're going to run rings around you and own your arse. It's not worth the hastle, find a game which has developers who understand balance.
I've won 73% of the 74 battles over the past week in the AMX 13 90.
But I'm probably more willing to stick it out against overpowered classes and find ways to win than the average player.
the ebrs ruins the game!! nowadays its very very hard to play usual lights!! the ebrs jolos and spot the half of your team!! its a nasty vehicle and wargaming should nerf this tanks! or ban they from the hightier battles....Tier 9 and 10 ebrs should ban of the game
