This. Is. Fantastic. Covered so many aspects. I was watching it in portions, so it took me a few days to watch it all. Wondering how long it took to plan it all, to get examples for all of that etc., a month probably! This should be shown in the WoT LT museum! :)
Still helpful to a noob like me all these years later. I hope you return some day and make more WOT videos. You're in a league of your own when it comes to explaining concepts clearly.
Czech tiers 6-9 and Swedish tier 9 Strv 103. Skoda T50 is a favorite tank, sooooo much fun to play with the mobility, gun handling/depression, and autoloader.
Skoda has Good Gun handling you say!? You must play mid to short ranges to be able to hit 2/3 shots with that bloody gun. Yes, if you`re 10-50 meters away from a very large tank and if you`re behind/side him so you can freakin` stop to shot...you have 80% chances to hit 3/3. Regarding other aspects, i agree, but no Sir, no gun handling. Had enough 5-6K dmg games in it, true, but had also tons of games where i shot 15 times and only 2 shots landed in conditions of perfect aim (full aim) on steady/tracked targets.
You created a video specific to the topic, with good game clips, and narration was to the point, providing crucial and important information, good work. Here is my side-comment: Far too many players have very poor situational & immediate area awareness. They get into a snipe position, they focus on tanks across the dam map and have no clue that spotted red tanks are approaching their location, they continue to ignore their immediate area which is now in threat and they die. A lot of times that causes a flank to fail and the game is lost. This happens in every type of tank from lights to arties.
Heavy and medium driver here, I've just started trying out the lights simply because most of the lights on my teams "suicide scout". Most of these maps, you lose vision, you lose the game. First thing I noticed is that I'm not you or Turkey. :) I truly stink at lights but I try to stay in the game until the end, spotting, doing damage when I can, and taking arty out of the game. It's a ton tougher than you gent's make it out to be, but I'm a quick learner.
holy shit, this is the most extensive Light tank guide I have ever seen. Thank you very much for making this man, I have been trying to wrap my head around my errors and this helps me see them. :) keep on going mate.
Helpful advice that was very concise and to the point. Loved how you did not just show others making mistakes, but yourself as well. No matter how good someone is, they can always make a mistake. Throwing in your own shows people that you cannot do it perfectly every time. There is always a learning curve.
This was a fast phase video covering great many (if not all?) aspects of LT's play - most difficult to play but also most rewarding WoT class. I will definitely watch it again when sober :)
I think I need to focus on map knowledge. I am well aware of the game's mechanics but I never know where the hell to go in tanks like the 12 t and WZ-132
One helpful resource are the map guides by O7 Gaming: o7gaming.com/maps/ The guides don't cover every place that's worth going as a light tank, but it's a very helpful start.
@@taugrim too bad, website is offline. Thanks for that awesome video. I went for the Scouts because I likes their speed/vision/mapcontrol and was so disappointed in the light tanks. However your video felt refreshing and I am looking forward to my next games.
With the AMX12 T it's good at spotting basically since the 12 T up the way to tier 10 you have identical gameplay Paper armor, Autoloader, And fast so basically just do active scouting and pick on heavies Well thats what i do but after the 12 T is the tank that is basically the 12 T but smaller turret.... if Your talking about BC 12 T well it still is like that Typical french tactics
Great information! I just started playing last week and I was basically just sui-scouting and brawling. Great breakdown of what not to do, and what to do in order to help the team get the win instead of just going in for kills.
Wow, great video! Now, when I do something stupid in a light tank, I can think, "D'oh! Now I remember! Taugrim told me not to do that!" I've saved it in my library so I can watch it again.
I like to play light tanks so much because they promote active and intense combat. This helped me on fixing my mistakes while playing lights. Thanks :D
This is great. I've been an avid light tank driver from day one (basically I bought a Type 64 when I installed) and light tanks... HIT my wn8 so bad. But I LEARNT. Boy did I learn. The only slight piece of advice I would have added is when to time a right click / use momentum / circle strafe vulernable tanks.. and how to make people turn turrets... you talk about 70pkh momentum driving as a bad thing but it really will cause a flank to fall if done right... it's about timing and the tools for the job.. other than utilizing that toolset properly you covered everything. What is good is that I genuinely already worked all this out on my own. So greatly encouraged me with your correspondent convergent thinking
I wish more players would watch your stuff and learn from it. You and maybe two other youtubers have taught me a lot and helped me improve my game hugely. At this stage I may not be learning as much from your videos (which could be a good thing?) but still watch intently. This kind of knowledge is now instinctive, making it easier to improve in other specific areas on the fly. Please keep up what you're doing. - Sent some token gold your way, will keep you in mind next time I have $ to burn lol.
This is really helpful. This reinforces things that I do sometimes without thinking and serves as a slap on the wrist of things I need to stop doing. I focus on vision on a lot of my tanks and it helps to know how to trap scouts and what to look for
Honestly Taugrim, I must thank you! You really improved my game, more importantly decision making and realizing this is not FPS, but slow, methodical game. From 1250 WN8 to 1920 WN8 recent. If you wish any particular donation, please, do tell! Cheers.
I know this is an old thread but this is a very well made video. I love the fact that you include some of your OWN mistakes. A lot of good players wont show those games. Lot to be learned from watching this...more than once.
Excellent video Taugrim. I enjoy lights more than any other class, and it's nice to know that I've been doing most everything as you describe it. The only thing I feel is holding me back from really excelling is that I just don't have time to play very much, but that's unavoidable. What I do get to play though is fun, fun, fun! Thanks for taking the time to do this.
I'm a beginner in WoT PC (seasoned player in Blitz but I wanted to play the real game) and someone recommended your videos to me. Those are truly incredible for a n00b like me, I can't imagine how much work you've put into the creation of this guide. It's probably counter intuitive to want to play light tanks since it's probably the hardest class to excel in, certainly as a beginner, and I have been figuring out the game a bit by playing heavy tanks, the thing I really hate about them is how blind they are, and how limited parts of the map they can actually use. That's why I want to try out the light tanks . Learning the maps won't happen by playing heavy tanks, neither will I learn how to abuse view range (since heavies don't have meaningfull view range). This guide is good place to start, since I want to read/watch in to lights stuff before even touching a light tank. Thanks a lot!
You picked up a lot already. I played heavies mostly for my first 3k battles, then started playing meds. I didn't play lights from tier 6 and up until 13k battles. No matter what class you play, there are trade-offs. I get frustrated with the lack of view range on heavies, which is why one has to go to brawling areas where tanks are close and easy to spot.
Man, I wish this was required watching for anyone who wanted to play past a Tier III light. Excellent guide for both those who play lights and those who counter lights (I've been grinding primarily TDs and Light for the past year, so I see it from both sides)
Really good stuff -- I've been playing console for 4 years now and the American light line (up to the Chaffee because that was all that was available back then) was the first grind I worked on and I was awful -- I wish there was something like this video back then. I'm at the HWK 12 on the German light Rheinmetall Panzerwagen line and it was only now that I finally got it pounded through my head the concepts you illustrate in this video -- finally realizing the role and benefits of spotting points. I see so many suicide scouts on the line that I now almost always avoid any lights that follow my path in the opening phase of a match -- just to avoid detection and it doesn't make sense XP wise; even if it's less tactically advantageous, I'll take an alternate route to be of a better value to the team and if I'm able to properly navigate the map in a fashion that doesn't get me killed. Keep up the good work!
this is a pretty good guide, seems like the main thing to learn in lights is check your greed at the battle q. I think i may dust off a couple of my abandoned lights and give them a go.
First time I watched your videos. Well done. I enjoy light tanks, they are the most fun for me, with their mobility and view range advantages. My highest wn8s are in light tanks. I do much of what you say, but I should start doing a few things you do that I don't. Like pinging the map more often to get team support. Sometimes I forget to look at the map and get over run, so leaving early enough is good advice I don't always do. I'll use that spot on Pokorovka (SP?) at the base of the hill to get early lights and the mid ridge on Malinovka. There are other spots on a few maps that you didn't show that you can get early lights too. Good stuff :)
Seeing as light tanks are perhaps my favourite class to play but I still have some basic errors (like suiscouting) to iron out, this guide is outstanding. Thanks a bunch.
One thing I noticed you didn't heat spam got plenty of side shots. Going to make a lot more profit this way. So much good stuff in this video, as I said before I"m starting out with light tanks, and I will be trying to apply what you have spoken about here, but i know its going to take some practice and I will get wrecked quiet often, still if I can see a little improvement each time. I'll be very happy to be in flames :) Thanks heaps for the video
So... Don't expose yourself too much, go for quick peeks, don't risk engagements with bad trades, take easy kills, don't shoot unless you're sure it's a good idea, don't brawl if you're outnumbered Some of the things I got, might give my AMX 12t a try today
anthony howard if u like light tanks, then I will suggest u checking out Ilyas red plays yt Channel, it's focused on light tanks only, he's probably the best light tank driver I have ever seen
I was looking to start using light tanks, searched for light tank guides: This is the first i found and it is excellent. Will put this into practice right away!
Just want to say I am in a BC 12T and had 32% for gun mark. After I watched this video, I am up to 61% and about to get my first mark ever playing a light tank... AND just killed TWO Tier 10 TDs to help carry for a win! All in 5 hours of gameplay. Thank you Taugrim!!!!!
Thank's a lot for your guide. Light tanks are really fun tp play but they are as hard (to play) as they are fun. It took years for me to learn and progress on effective scouting. Now I use to say to my scouts mates "If you scout, don't shoot". Scouting was a hard job already, but now with the EBR it's just a nightmare. Ebr are total game break.
Thanks for putting this online. I'm currently grinding some lights and this has helped me a lot. As an older player (51) I don't have the kind of situational awareness and quick decision making skills anymore that unicoms have, but at least I know now how to position, when and when not to flank, etc. The video is a gem. Great work!
I'm a 3.5k recent wn8 player and I love playing light tanks for the speed but I always used them for chasing damage and farming not scouting like I should. Thanks to your guide I'm going to start practicing scouting!
Nice guide. Top notch. I was worried that you forget to mention "idiot teammates" or "early spot issues" but you got them covered pretty well. Malinovka early start spot on the field is a real double-edged sword. You get lots of spot but often no damage, you just see your teammates missing shot after a shot while enemy leaves the base, and 2 minutes later it turns out that your team is still in the base waiting for spot while they are getting surrounded. Also, dangerous spots in the beginning, suiscouts are dumb for one more reason: There is a tactical spot, which reveals enemy team distribution on map (which could help if you have some better players in the team) or dumb spot where you ping, ask for dmg, rush and die because you are behind 7 covers and your team did not reach a position they can fire from. I still remember this one Leopard going crazy with "spot help plx" pinging fever rushing into the main street at Ruinberg. Cursing at allies later that they did not shot through like 8 buildings and two crossings xD Idiot players standing near you are also annoying, if the position is good I would say it is worth trying "Fall back"-pinging him, sometimes they listen. Also, it is good to track your team's WN8 and Winrate. Skilled players in the team are more likely to use your spot or at least the information it provides (like early-spot revealing enemy distribution, smart players seeing that will adjust and change flank a-priori). Experienced team is not only able to use the information you provide, but also take care of themselves as well as predict what you are trying to do or what will happen next. Team full of red players means that you should avoid taking risk during spot because most likely they will not see anything other than the tank currently in their sights. People claim that wn8 does not matter, but taking a quick look at the color of your team or an individual tank you are holding flank with is A HUGE strategic and tactical advantage. You also say that LT have high skill cap because they are fragile. I would say they are difficult because being an LT means you have to try to distribute your team, track the distribution of the enemy forces as well as you need to adapt to whatever your team is doing or even how good they are. So one game you may rush with a bunch of unicums and you will obliberate enemy team 15:0 within 3 minutes while in another battle you will run out of fuel because of forced relocations, spot a lot of enemies but yet your spot assist damage will be close to 0 and the game will be lost. Mastering LTs is like succeeding in being your own grandpa :D
> You also say that LT have high skill cap because they are fragile. I would say they are difficult because being an LT means you have to try to distribute your team, track the distribution of the enemy forces as well as you need to adapt to whatever your team is doing or even how good they are You're absolutely right about all of that.
I have only just started to try to be a good LT driver and this is a really good tutorial. Watching it in 2020 it is amazing to see just how much the maps have changed.
Coming to this video as a player who has been playing off and on for the last 9 years. So much stuff that I still need to learn and relearn even all these years later.
3:30 First time in anyone's video that I hear them say Spot for the TDs or if you want ro hang back get in the right tank to do it... A TD. So many times set in a perfect killing position to have our spotters, the LTs and MTs head off to spot for the HTs or as I like to say; feed off the scraps from the HTs. Enjoyed your video, hope LT and MT players took notes.
Just recently became aware of your videos, even though I've been playing WoT (on and off) for about 6 years. You are truly a master in the game but also you have very advanced pedagogical skills, the way you make everything clear, more than once, with very straightforward examples! Also those nerves of steel and analytical capabilities! Thanks for your great videos
Great video as always Taugrim, especially for somebody that plays mostly light tanks. BTW, it's great when your personality comes through; makes for great/amusing content that players can relate too. For example, at the 12:20 mark, "Look at the E75, that's glorious, dude is....hahaha, full HP 10 seconds ago and now he's one-shotable." In situations like that, you can't help but laugh and enjoy watching a Tier 10 heavy get nuked. Keep up the great work; learning a lot.
First let me tell you a *Big Thanks* for all your work that you have done for the community! I have improved from your videos alone and there are plenty of other WoT content creators out there. Your "Road to unicum" are simply amazing. However we all know the meta has changed with many new tanks and the influx of wheeled lights, sometimes unable to get into those early positions first if you don't play one, some of the maps in this video are from another era. Which tank can/can't do X an Y etc. 40yo gamer who played WoT for quite some time on and off with breaks. Granted this video Does help and work in 2020 but I would love to see more of todays gameplay. Try take this as constructive critisism. No hard feelings here. Thx again!
Interesting seeing LemmingRush displaying the same thinking in places, also thanks for a new bush location. And the AMX13 90 for his ditch hideout, will have to try that.
every extensive explanation on how to drive a LT. good info and experienced shared. well done. and thanks. i'm not a pro, just not experienced enough to drive a higher tier LT. i started out with TD, then HT, and now MT. hope i can learned more about how to drive an LT.
A great video tutorial. It is very helpful and insightful. It really opened my eyes up on how to play lights on a better level. Plus your polite demeanor was refreshing also, not knocking on people's mistakes with a sophomoric attitude. Subscribed.
Great video, good job! There is one comment of yours, that while I agree with you, there are exceptions to, and even though I'm pretty sure that you probably have thought of this, maybe some of your viewers haven't, and might consider it. You said that "Early damage wins games," and for the most part, that is very true, but there are exceptions that I'd like to talk about, most notably, Campinovka, but there are others too. A few clips later, you were saying, " You often can decide which enemy dies next by who you decide to light," and that is very true, but that statement correctly implies that you also have the ability to be a factor at who your team isn't shooting at as well, you can often lead them to places, or stall them in other places with this ability. When I get a new tank, or especially when a new map comes out that I haven't become to familiar with yet, or sometimes, just for the hell of it, I'll watch some WoT, or QB replays, and use filters to sort by tank, by class, or by map to see who and how other players are having great games with those tanks on those maps. ( There is another tip for your viewers). On Campinovka I watched many phenomenal games where a scout, from either end, found a great bush along the SW shore of the big lake near the middle, near where you killed an elc in this video, and lit most or all of the enemy before they even get out of spawn. I've done this myself and completed big spotting missions, and had many outstanding games doing the same. I quit going there long ago though, in spite of those huge xp games. I now firmly believe all of this particular early damage causes more losses than wins from this position. It seems to me that more often than not, this causes most or all of my team to sit in base sniping across the field for way to long, and many of the enemy to get out of base quicker. Two thirds of my team may still be there several minutes later waiting for some slow, heavily armored enemy to come out from behind that building or rock while the few of your team that eventually went to the hill were late, outnumbered, and stomped, and now the rest are surrounded still near base. All that damage that you got credit for was mostly taken out on the base campers of their team that usually aren't a very big factor in who wins anyway. Most of the time early spotting is great, but not always, and this is just one of a few examples, there are others. I guess that I'm only saying to be mindful of your abilities not only of who dies next, but also of how your eyes can influence the whole meta of how and where the battles will take place, and recognize when it is working to your disadvantage as well.
> It seems to me that more often than not, this causes most or all of my team to sit in base sniping across the field for way to long, and many of the enemy to get out of base quicker This is a risk, but honestly I've found that no matter what I do, a lot of (bad) players end up over-camping anyway. For the most part, tanks like heavies shouldn't bother to snipe, they lack the gun handling for it, and their armor is better used elsewhere.
Dude you gave me hope, made me feel better, knowing that there's someone on utube trying to show people how to play lights cause there's been alot of suiciding and guys who just spot places where make people camp at base, yeah its good u spot and ur team gets 5, but while they camp caude of ur spotting on stupid spots, they win more map
How most people spot makes me wanna drink bleach, on 2015 or last year I ended at the top 1k best light tank player with many different lights, wish there were more like me ;(
Light tanks are the class I have the highest win rate in, and I believe it's because most people simply don't play them well, so if a team has a competent light tank driver it can be a big advantage. People I platoon with have told me that when I'm in a light tank with them, games flow much better.
Taugrim yeah its important to stay alive, a light tank is very very important at the end of the battle, people dont understand that, even when u have the view range doesnt mean u have to use it, but camping isn't the way to go as well
I use both methods of passive and active spotting, depending on map and current situation. What is hard when spotting in a passive mode is to know when to shoot and hold fire. What can be very annoying is when 2-3 LT goes in the same direction and get taken out early. A fresh LT in the last minutes of an even battle can make a huge difference when there is few tanks left. Good video thou =) Subscribed.
Haha dude you are so right. Even though I was posting about my hate for scout tanks not doing their job on reddit. I ve been downvoted, because ppl were saying everbody should play the style they want. But from my point of view is this ridiculous, as every tank has his role in this game. And if lights suck on their role, others like TDs cant do their job properly. I am so happy that there are good ppl out there which says that scouts should do their work propelry and not just go with meds, heavies or even stay with TDs and camp...
This is very true! When I've platooned with other players in meds or TDs, they often tell me the games flow much better and that it's so much easier with a competent light tank driver. Light tanks enable their teams to deal damage, and late-game they can flank and cause massive disruption.
Last time I played this game I was around 11-12 years old, and close to a decade later I’m back. I decided to pick up light tank gameplay a couple of days ago, but I was absolutely clueless about how to effectively spot for my team, and keep myself safe and able to continue to do my job later on in the game. So I started watching some videos, and this was one of the first. Now thanks to this and some other videos I’ve made huge improvements, although I still make dumb decisions and push too deep at times. I picked up an ace tanker’s medal yesterday just because I have a better idea of how I can be just a little more effective each game thanks to this video and others.
Very good video, a friend of mine always asks me how i play lights so well and honestly, i can just link him this video, i agree with every point you make.
This video stopped me from quitting after 2 months. It improved my gameplay drastically! This is in NO way a criticism, but I play on PS4 and it seems like there are more bushes and soft cover on PC. That only affected specific positions as I was able to apply so many more aspects. My win rate and k/d ratio was 45% and .52. Five months after this video, my win rate is 49.1% and kill/death is .89 or .90. Yea, I am still an average player at best, but it's much more fun now. I marked my amx 12t in less than 50 games and am already close to marking my amx 13 75. I am on my way to 2 marking some tanks as well. Thank you Taugrim. I recommend this video to everyone!
This helped so much. You really went into how each 'player' style can benefit from a well played light tank. I'd like to see more guides like this for other size and styles of tanks.
Greetings from the EU server. Its interesting to see the difference in the meta of WOT depending on game-region.. In some of the examples you are using locations that is strictly no-go locations on the EU-server.. Well it feels good to see that there is a difference. Anyhow, keep up the good work
Can you share examples of locations that are strictly no-go locations on the EU? Most of the places I chose to go to makes sense based on map design and compositions, so I'd be interested to hear why they don't work in your region.
Solid advisory video. I have only 1 thing to add. Try to take note which camping tanks (td's) are still unspotted and their likely location. Often they kemp bush somewhere and close down a flanking line without ever being seen.
Glad I found this. I’m really interested in Lights, and scouting, but haven’t tried it because I wasn’t sure what to actually do! Plenty of really good information here. Thanks 👍🏻
Not only is this video still relevant in 2021, but it made me sad to miss Swamp, Stalingrad & Windstorm in the rotation. Maybe they weren't great maps, but man I had some fun on them all at various times! Thanks Taugrim.
Can we just appreciate the fact that this man right here didn't have a single Gold ammo loaded in any of his tanks in this whole video? Wish there were more like you. Amazing video, a lot of really good advice, and easy to understand with a lot of good examples on top of everything. What I would recommend for you, though, would be to lower your sensitivity or DPI a bit, your aim is very very shaky, and you missed a few shots you could've hit if you had more stable aim. Try lowering your DPI on the mouse, or sensitivity in the settings, see how that feels. And thank you so much for putting in the effort to make this video for all of us.
Yes, I've been gradually lowering the mouse sensitivity the past few years. Wasn't even aware how much a thing mouse sensitivity was until I started playing Overwatch. My aim still is mediocre but it is getting better slowly.
Good video, it might have been cool adding a full game play video where you go through your thoughts throughout a game. "I noticed they didn't have any fast tanks so I decided to do..." etc. to help newer players make sense of it all. When you show a good flanking run that's all well and good, but especially the newer players may need help to even get such opportunities in the first place. Ie. "How did you survive with full health until late game without just base camping?" type questions. I've seen so many newer players who seem to think that "Stay alive!" means "Go hide in a corner at the back!" when it obviously doesn't. :P
This guide video was intentionally a compilation. I do have full battle replay videos for light tanks, where you can hear my thought process throughout. Check out my playlist for light tank reviews: ruclips.net/p/PLjuPYXp94NOjYa9_FaLKwhGMSkh7rvl6L
Hey! Thanks lots for the video. In addition to the great advice on playing lights, your video also provides lots of information on various locations which are good for tanks that have to operate "from a distance" like weakly-armored meds and tank destroyers. Considering that my goals include learning to play lights *and* improving my understanding of TD play, watching your vid gave me a doubled benefit.
Well good video. You seemed to have assigned yourself the impossible task of explaining everything a player needs to know about light tanks in 1 video. Kind of all over the place, but impressively done. Gratz.
"Bah, humbug."?? Did you just go british on me... Fine let me rephrase that comment, Your video is a 39 minute autoloader of light tank information with a dispersion of 0.35 (before crew skills and modules of course).
I have been watching your guides quiet a bit now. I go for a baby steps approach to changing my game play. When I am in high tier (7) battle I tend to try to play more defensively, by playing in our half of the battle field, the goal is to intercept, and light up any tanks trying to take out our arties or capture the base. I have also been trying to passive scout, but this can be tricky depending on the map and tier of tanks I am up against. I did use one of your scouting spots and got 853 spotting experience. Which might seem like noting to more experienced players but it was awesome from my point of view. :) Once I get six sense this will really help with my passive spotting. Keep up the great guides. I switched back to the chaffee and I got to say its really fun to play that tank, tried the ELC but it struggles to get up and go
The ELC is a super weird outlier in terms of playstyle - it's more like a hybrid TD / passive scout. What you said about adjusting your play a bit based on tier makes sense. I'm glad to hear you had a good XP game - success will breed success over time, as you climb up the learning and ability curve.
I was about to sell my ELC, but something said no keep with it, and its starting to come to together thanks to your videos. I love the super low small tank. I use every dip and bit of cover I can to prevent being spotted, and I wait before I head forward. Maybe your next video can be the ELC. I don't use the top gun the one below for full turret rotation ability., and because the shells are cheaper. I am really cheap I like to make profit :)
Really excellent stuff Taugrim. Thanks for sharing. I enjoy the way you present, and also the lack of arrogance despite the obvious skill which you possess. You share some excellent knowledge. Thanks for sharing...
by far the best help I've seen since i started, I'm no where near as technical as you, but I love to play and now I'll look forward for more Schoolin', THANK YOU !
Some of this goes out the window with French lights up to the AMX 40 because of their amazing armor. Seriously when the AMX 40 is top tier it can be a monster. With that out of the way, amazing guide. I mainly play heavy tanks but with the upcoming mission vehicle changes I'll have to grind lights, and this will be very helpful.
Yea, there are some lights below tier 5, e.g. the AMX 40 you mentioned, that don't behave like a traditional light tank. But from tier 5 and up, all lights are designed to be scouts and flankers. Have fun grinding lights!
Taugrim Agreed. I plot myself to try and find a light line with some workable armor; currently looking at Germans (Tier V Leopard has a surprisingly nice armor scheme) and Russians (T 54 light.) Any suggestions? Of course I'll always have the Duck. It's stupidly hilarious, and it can actually go 55 KPH downhill. The amount of "WHAT THE FUCK" and "HOW?!" responses I've gotten by people who I've chased down is amazing.
Very useful video. Thanks. In my Chinese lights up to tier 6, I had 60% plus winrate up to 50 battles; I had no 6th sense. When I got 6th sense, winrate started dropping. That tells me I started taking unnecessary risks.
My biggest issue with scouting is that I often find myself having nothing to do. For example on Live Oaks map, City is being pushed by heavys and other side is a battle of medium tanks. If I spot middle there is no escape route, if I scout in front of TD hill on western side I'll be in spotting range of their TDs, if I go on the medium side I'm going to get spotted by the mediums checking over the hill.
On Live Oaks I almost always go east. In some rare situations (e.g. only 1-2 light tanks per side), I may go spot the approach to city and sniper hill overlooking city. But east is the best way to win map control from either side, typically.
Some of my light tanks had < 2 skills, some had more. In some cases I had crews from heavy or medium lines that I retrained to light tanks. I used female reward crew members as Commanders for some light tanks and for the 3-crew tanks (e.g. French lights). I also simply played hundreds of battles working up various light tank lines, and that helped with skill acquisition. Last but not least, once tanks are elited I turn on Accelerate Crew Training and use boosters for XP and Crew Training - those things collectively speed up skill acquisition hugely.
I found this video, and despite the long video i found it really helpful and enjoyable, I already have a few marks on a lot of my tanks but always looking to improve. Thanks for the video :)
After a bad trade with heavies I ended up carrying a game in my luchs, 1 v 3. I actually remembered a lot of the tactics from this video to run through my head, things like vision control to be able to successfully club a platoon of B2's and arty.
Thank you for the video man! I have been trying to improve my overall gameplay for some time now and am slowly learning the role of scout. (Without getting yelled at for being a potato) Appreciate all the tips. I will put a few of them to use right....now!
Favorite RUclipsr he shows what not to do and what to do which is a way better then just showing what to do alone. I’ve seen this vid 2 times and it’s help me go from averaging 1500 spotting to 1900 in a few days. An hopefully I’ll catch Taug in another game and kill em again 🤫.
Good advice! I'm 1 month into playing this game and am pretty addicted. Of course i want to be a good team player and have been feeling embarrassed when battling on tier III - IV maps that I have no familiarity with yet... I've had some quick deaths for sure... I'll keep checking in to learn more, thanks!!
Thanks a lot for this video.. It gave me understanding about how to be good with LTs. I've played WOT for 2+ years. But, the 20% win rate on my Luchs made me afraid of playing the LTs. Using the tips and tricks you put in this video, I'm going to start playing the LTs again. Thank you very much.
This. Is. Fantastic.
Covered so many aspects. I was watching it in portions, so it took me a few days to watch it all. Wondering how long it took to plan it all, to get examples for all of that etc., a month probably! This should be shown in the WoT LT museum! :)
A month? Hah! Took 3 months of collecting footage. Was worth it based on viewer comments.
amazing job m8! be great if you used the ru251 as well :D
Taugrim, you get the biggest compliments (and truly deserve them!) by the best scout player EU - not me, Ilya Red. :-) Great scout guide, mate!!
@@taugrim great video, appreciate the effort
@@taugrim I've got over 10k games in WoT and I still got alot from this vid. TY.
Still helpful to a noob like me all these years later. I hope you return some day and make more WOT videos. You're in a league of your own when it comes to explaining concepts clearly.
There is something nostalgic about watching replays from before 1.0 graphics overhaul. Thanks for the pro tips Taugrim.
Excellent Guide Taugrim! What's the next guide on :)
Czech tiers 6-9 and Swedish tier 9 Strv 103.
Skoda T50 is a favorite tank, sooooo much fun to play with the mobility, gun handling/depression, and autoloader.
Nice, got WG commenting on youtubers... thats pretty cool guys, :) and thanks for the upload Taugrim.
World of Tanks North America oh damn senpai noticed you D:
Skoda has Good Gun handling you say!? You must play mid to short ranges to be able to hit 2/3 shots with that bloody gun. Yes, if you`re 10-50 meters away from a very large tank and if you`re behind/side him so you can freakin` stop to shot...you have 80% chances to hit 3/3. Regarding other aspects, i agree, but no Sir, no gun handling. Had enough 5-6K dmg games in it, true, but had also tons of games where i shot 15 times and only 2 shots landed in conditions of perfect aim (full aim) on steady/tracked targets.
Hello there World of Tanks :D
You created a video specific to the topic, with good game clips, and narration was to the point, providing crucial and important information, good work.
Here is my side-comment:
Far too many players have very poor situational & immediate area awareness.
Thanks, this kind of feedback makes all the work that went into creating this video worth it. o7

One helpful resource are the map guides by O7 Gaming:
o7gaming.com/maps/
The guides don't cover every place that's worth going as a light tank, but it's a very helpful start.
Taugrim, is there any alternative for O7 Gaming guides? The site is expired :C
@@taugrim too bad, website is offline.
Thanks for that awesome video.
I went for the Scouts because I likes their speed/vision/mapcontrol and was so disappointed in the light tanks. However your video felt refreshing and I am looking forward to my next games.
With the AMX12 T it's good at spotting basically since the 12 T up the way to tier 10 you have identical gameplay
Paper armor, Autoloader, And fast so basically just do active scouting and pick on heavies
Well thats what i do but after the 12 T is the tank that is basically the 12 T but smaller turret....
if Your talking about BC 12 T well it still is like that
Typical french tactics
Of the thousands of WoT videos I've watched over the years, this one easily makes top 10.
Thanks, that is very high praise :)
Thanks for the content Taugrim. LT's are by far the most difficult to play.
I just spent 40 minutes watching a video and boi was it worth it
I wish more players would watch your stuff and learn from it.
It's good if you're not learning as much, you're making it up the learning curve. And thank you so much for the gold, it's MUCH appreciated :)
Cheers.
That's a big jump in your recent stats, congrats.
If you feel inclined to donate, I support multiple ways as listed here: taugrim.com/donate/
I know this is an old thread but this is a very well made video. I love the fact that you include some of your OWN mistakes. A lot of good players wont show those games. Lot to be learned from watching this...more than once.
You made me realize that I tend to get tunnel vision especially in my LT, thanks, definitely going to do my best to make use of this information.
Thanks, what you wrote is exactly why I put in the hours needed to create this video.
I think these are the most in depth guides to this game. Very good.
I just got back into tanks after 2 years. And thanks for this. I appreciate the insight. Some of these things are not intuitive and it helps.
You're welcome, and I hope it helps :)
So...
Don't expose yourself too much, go for quick peeks, don't risk engagements with bad trades, take easy kills, don't shoot unless you're sure it's a good idea, don't brawl if you're outnumbered
Some of the things I got, might give my AMX 12t a try today
Great to hear a shout out to 4TankersAndDog content...yourself, Dauntless, and 4Tankers are the best teachers in the game great job
Don't forget Zeven and Ilya Red!
DeHarrie true dat
Also Tazilon...
The work you put into this is so impressive. I can really appreciate the effort you put into this video.
It was a huge pain in the ass. I hope the finished product was worth it :)
Just subbed. You are new 2 me. Great content. I am really getting into playing lights. Keep up the good work and greeting from the Uk!
anthony howard if u like light tanks, then I will suggest u checking out Ilyas red plays yt Channel, it's focused on light tanks only, he's probably the best light tank driver I have ever seen
Thank you so much for the info.
I like the way you point out your own mistakes as well as other players. Shows that everybody can make mistakes. Classy, well done.
I'm over 20k battles in and still learning. The game is richly complex :)
Long video but super useful. Provides almost everything new LT players need to know in a single video. Great work man!
Congrats Ben!
Marks are a really nice visible achievement for playing a tank well.
The EBRs are getting nerfed a bit. It's much needed.
A good light tank driver does both spotting and damage, so long as the latter doesn't get you killed.
Nice guide.
Cursing at allies later that they did not shot through like 8 buildings and two crossings xD
Idiot players standing near you are also annoying, if the position is good I would say it is worth trying "Fall back"-pinging him, sometimes they listen.
I would say they are difficult because being an LT means you have to try to distribute your team, track the distribution of the enemy forces as well as you need to adapt to whatever your team is doing or even how good they are
You're absolutely right about all of that.
I have only just started to try to be a good LT driver and this is a really good tutorial. Watching it in 2020 it is amazing to see just how much the maps have changed.
One of the very best Light Tank guides on YT. Thanks for this!!
Coming to this video as a player who has been playing off and on for the last 9 years. So much stuff that I still need to learn and relearn even all these years later.
That was brilliant, to have a condensed video of light tanking tips, brilliant! Thx Taugrim
Thanks and welcome to my channel :)
Thx again!
Knowing this guide took you months to make I did not mean to make it sound like a slap in your face. Keep up the good and much needed work.
Interesting seeing LemmingRush displaying the same thinking in places, also thanks for a new bush location. And the AMX13 90 for his ditch hideout, will have to try that.
Great lesson I think I’ve learned more in this video than anything I have ever seen before.
every extensive explanation on how to drive a LT. good info and experienced shared. well done. and thanks. i'm not a pro, just not experienced enough to drive a higher tier LT. i started out with TD, then HT, and now MT. hope i can learned more about how to drive an LT.
Taugrim I've been following off and on since we played RIFT together in 2011, thrilled we have had similar taste in games over the years lol
It was a long time coming but it was worth the wait. This is a greaet all-in-one tutorial on running light tanks. Thanks!
Thanks for this video. It really shined the light for me on a few, what seems to be, important aspects of being a teams scout.
I love your editin decision of jumping from game to game back and forward it kept me on attention
Glad to hear that. There was so much I wanted to cover but I didn't want to make the video any longer than it already is. 40 mins is a long watch.
> It seems to me that more often than not, this causes most or all of my team to sit in base sniping across the field for way to long, and many of the enemy to get out of base quicker
This is a risk, but honestly I've found that no matter what I do, a lot of (bad) players end up over-camping anyway.
Taugrim yeah its important to stay alive, a light tank is very very important at the end of the battle, people dont understand that, even when u have the view range doesnt mean u have to use it, but camping isn't the way to go as well
Jolly good guide! Expertly written and a great help to us average players to enjoy playing light tanks!
Good video thou =)

Glad it helped. Light tank play is incredibly nuanced, and it's rewarding when you get it right.
Very good video, a friend of mine always asks me how i play lights so well and honestly, i can just link him this video, i agree with every point you make.
Thank you! Great stuff for those of us still trying get at least above average. Glad I found your channel.
Glad to hear this was helpful :)
Congrats on the progress with marks, it means you're clearly improving and is a fun visible reward.
Great guide - just the facts - I like your simple but effective communication style
"We're gonna take a look at what bad light tank gameplay looks like."
>Pulls up a clip of me on a good day
Love your channel just started the game like 2 weeks ago and you helped seal my interest in the game!
This is a good addition to call out. Thank you.
Man I thought you quit,i'm so pleased to see this vid, keep it up
I'd like to see how to play against EBRs when you are in the same tier non-EBR light tank
Holy shit, I'm glad to see a new video! It's been awhile, but it was worth the wait! :)
Never played LT before. Had to watch this since I am going to try it out for the first time...soon. :) Thank you for all the information!
Well good video. You seemed to have assigned yourself the impossible task of explaining everything a player needs to know about light tanks in 1 video. Kind of all over the place, but impressively done. Gratz.
All over the place? Bah, humbug. I sequenced the tips pretty intentionally based on what I felt made sense :)
"Bah, humbug."?? Did you just go british on me...
Fine let me rephrase that comment, Your video is a 39 minute autoloader of light tank information with a dispersion of 0.35 (before crew skills and modules of course).
Haha, and your brother says you have no sense of humor.
Thank you for your simple and clear video. I like the way you edited it and commented it.
Nice vid, I consider myself a competent player but there was definitely some stuff I learned here
Some of this goes out the window with French lights up to the AMX 40 because of their amazing armor.
Taugrim
Agreed.
This is simply THE best Light Tank guide I have ever seen. How do you grind enough skills for those crews you were using in those LTs?
Some of my light tanks had < 2 skills, some had more.
In some cases I had crews from heavy or medium lines that I retrained to light tanks. I used female reward crew members as Commanders for some light tanks and for the 3-crew tanks (e.g. French lights).
I also simply played hundreds of battles working up various light tank lines, and that helped with skill acquisition.
Last but not least, once tanks are elited I turn on Accelerate Crew Training and use boosters for XP and Crew Training - those things collectively speed up skill acquisition hugely.
Nice vid mate. In the point to the whole video ! I hope that it will help a lot of new LT drivers out there.
I found this video, and despite the long video i found it really helpful and enjoyable, I already have a few marks on a lot of my tanks but always looking to improve. Thanks for the video :)
Great job I play on WoT on console. I never really play in a light tank but wanting to try them out. This is a great video thank you!
Glad to hear the video has helped.
Don't kill me plx :)
