@@datkhornedog899 I think it's the rolling barrage. Usually in WW1, the artillery would bomb the enemy trenches for several hours with all they had, then they would send the infantry. But from what I remember, this always gave the enemy time to reorganize (assuming you're not dead or shell shocked of course) because if you've been bombed for several hours and it suddenly stops, it's very likely that an infantry attack is next. If I'm correct, with the rolling barrage artillery shots would slightly move forward at the same speed as infantry, thus preventing the defenders from reorganizing as much as before.
Edit: actually it's "Creeping barrage", it was a mistranslation on my part, in french we call it "barrage roulant" which translate to "rolling barrage".

The horses used in the charge are so genetically enhanced that they're barely horses. They can keep charging while taking small arms fire such as lasguns, and have massive claws which they can use to rip the enemy appart. Also the lances used are designed to penetrate armor and then explode, if you look at the lances you see that they have a simmilar charge as the potato masher and they explod after hitting the space marine's armor.
Also an interesting story about the deathkorps. They where sent as honorguard for diplomats inspecting a dissident city, when the diplomats where executed by the dissidents the deathkorps promptly started shelling the city. The deathkorps continued shelling the city for 10 years after which the city was utterly reduced to rubble, this was 2 years after they stopped detecting life signs from the city and 5 years after the city decleared unconditional surrender. The deathkorps doesn't fuck around.

Actually, there were more Krieg alive. They were just mopping up and securing the perimeter of their new real estate.
And if those were actual Cadian Guardsmen, they wouldn't have needed to be bailed out by the Krieg. The Cadian Guardsman is second only to the Astates Chapters and the Kreig Death Korps in terms of quality and capabilities as well as fighting strength and spirit. They have to be the damn near best after all.
The Eye of Terror is their responsibility to keep watch over and defend against any Chaos force that comes out.
More than 500 Generations of Guardsmen defended Cadia successfully. The planet cracking and dying before they did. That puts the Cadians up there with the Krieg.

Kriegs soliders have a multitude of reasons for why they get away with things, one- They dont care. Two- They have better armor in some cases. Three- they're the most suicidal force in lore, if it's a mere gunshot. They keep going until their body gives up. Pain is a weakness and they kill any soldiers who show pain during training.
The spears are outfitted with an anti armor grenade bundle at the base of the tip as well.

Fun Fact: In 40k, the Imperial Guard has a type of officer called a "Commissar." The Commissar is technically not part of the regular chain of command and thus has no command authority unless they also hold a commision as a regular officer (such as the infamous "Colonel-Commissar Gaunt") but they do have absolute authority in matters pertaining to discipline. This includes executing deserters and cowards. In a normal unit, one of the Commissar's duties on the battlefield is to enforce discipline by giving speeches and making themselves a visible presence to remind the troops that if they break and run, the Commissar will not hesitate to judge them cowards and shoot them in the back as they flee. However, in the Krieg units, they are so fanatically loyal that the Commissar does not have to worry about them breaking and running, but rather his job becomes keeping them from charging headlong at the enemy lines. Because the Kriegers absolutely will suicide charge the enemy even when it's tactically pointless and wasteful for them to do so unless a Commissar holds them in check.

For real, I've been looking whete to get a replica WW1 German shovel for the cheapest and already looked for a place to get the text engraved on it near by 😂
Although maybe instead of modifying a replica WW1 shovel I should make my own that's more similar in appearance to the WH40K illustrations? “Why are they wearing gas masks when no one else is?”
Krieg was originally an almost paradise world, which tried to secede from the Imperium after calculating that their orbital defenses were so powerful that the Empire would decide not to try to reclaim them as the cost would be too high. Turns out they calculated right…. But didn’t know that the local Imperial Guard regiment (which they almost annihilated on the first day) would be ordered to 1) attempt to reclaim the planet at all costs and 2) that the Guard was stationed very specifically in a city that had the equivalent of thousands of ICBMs with a variety of thermonuclear (and similar) warheads…… This being Warhammer, they waited until the Emperors Feast day to make it very clear just why it was happening, and simultaneously launched all of them, destroying all but the most shielded cities in a single strike, sending the planet into a global nuclear winter, and destroying essentially all crops causing a global famine.
Centuries of war follow on an irradiated and chemically contaminated planet, leading to the development of standardized equipment that protects all soldiers against NBC weapons - including the gas masks. Combat in those conditions were exceptionally harsh, with casualties echoing the Fields of Verdun in WWI in every battle, resulting in a level of dehumanization that’s extraordinary even for 40k (and remarked on by both the Deathkorp - preferring not to fight with unmotivated allies - and by the rest of the Imperium - who think they’re all mad). Since that’s the gear thats needed to go outside on their home world (even after the unification) it’s also what they wear everywhere they are deployed, making them exceptionally flexible as they’re not only equipped for hazardous environments but also psychologically gleeful to fight there.

I'll answer a few of your questions here actually.
So with the engagement at the ambush it could've possibly been that the Astartes saw the AT team and was confident enough to eliminate the target, where bringing attention to the AT team could've endangered the tank crew further. He took the shot cause he was confident enough that it was safer than alerting the tank crew. Another point could've been that as he eliminated the first target he would've talked to the crew through his helmet comms, which have been stated to be only heard by those who are on that frequency, which seems to be supported with how quickly the turret slew towards the correct bearing.
On the topic of the Kriegsmen on the horses, people have said before that those horses are pretty much so genetically modified that the only thing about them that are horses is the name, bred to be hardy and exceedingly fast. It also fits into their German WW1 aesthetic and the way they fight. The spears have anti armour charges on them so they detonate after burying themselves into the target. Basically the two black marines were blown to hell with how often they got hit.
Dropping artillery on their own infantry is pretty much the general behaviour of the Krieg.
In regards to charging the red marine, they probably knew about the guy readying his grenades and where giving him time, or they just wanted to overwhelm and distract him from turning his attention back to the green marine. They do indeed have a lack regard for their own life but to them its for the objective and for victory.
I hope these answered a few of your questions, and I'm enjoying the analysis of your videos. Glad that you're enjoying the 40kverse.
PS: I'd love to see some of your vintage military gear, that sounds pretty awesome!

  • @LordDelakar
    @LordDelakar 3 года назад +25

There used to be a piece of war gear on the table top where an Krieg infantry man could be issued an artillery homing beacon. This would allow you to target your own unit with artillery and it wouldn't scatter. The idea was that you would charge a valuable enemy unit with a cheep unit then drop artillery directly on top of the squad so it would scatter and do max damage to the enemy unit. I really miss that rule, yea artillery doesn't scatter any more but it makes me sad. There's something about handing a dude a homing beacon and telling him to charge that tank or enemy super heavy so that your artillery wont miss. It just fits so perfectly with the Death Korps of Krieg ethos.

Their greatest desire is to do their duty in emperors name as much as possible, even if it means that they would die. So that their deeds would be added to all other deeds of all other Kriegsman ever to pay for sins of their ancestors.
To rout, disobey orders or even rebel would be to destroy all the work Kriegsmen did to get their ultimate salvation - that is to get rid of inherited guilt of generations from ages ago.
It almost sounds like a cult or religion, but Kriegsmen are too practical for this. They simply made it into their culture to such degree that they is not really much space for anything else.

Ok, late to the comments, but, fun fact about the Imperial Guardsman in the Tank, near the beginning you can see that on his Helmet there are three white lines. Based upon his shoulder insignia he is a Cadian - Best Guardsman the Imperium has to offer - those three lines mark him as a White Stripe. White Stripes are Cadians who have finished their basic training and are on their first battlefield assignment. His behaviour during the battle is probably indicative of anyone's first battle, especially seeing both the Death Korps of Krieg and the Chaos Space Marines of the Black Legion first hand. After this battle and subsequent battles he will be assigned to a specific position, losing the mark of the White Stripe, and gaining a role within the Cadian lines, probably as part of another Leman Russ Tank crew.
Of course all that is if he survives, the average survival time for a Guardsman is 15 Hours.

    Also, to clarify some things:
1, the Astartes (space marine) can talk through his radio through a mental link. I know it works with other Astartes, so it might work with the guardsmen.
2, those Astates have a gun called a bolter. Imagine a rifle that 75 cal, rocket propelled, armor piercing explosive rounds. That is one of the few things that can pierce their armor.
3, the death riders (cavalry) ride genetically enhanced horses that are basically a horse equivalent to a space marine. They're ridiculously fast, strong and stupidly overpowered to the point they can take gunshots and explosions and act like nothing happened.
4, the Death Korps don't exactly care about casualties. Their soldiers don't fear death, and they have the numbers to accept their casualties. Firing artillery while your soldiers are still there isn't uncommon.
The Death Korps believe they owe a debt to the Emperor for their planet's betrayal. A debt that can only be paid in their blood or their enemy's.

    Oh and another fun fact:
In 40k, there are commanding officers called Commissars, that generally will execute you on the spot if you try to desert or retreat without orders to retreat, or if you say anything heretical. This is generally to inspire a sort of negative morale in the soldiers, who are supposed to feel like "I *might* die if I charge the space bugs in front of me, but I *will* die if I disobey orders"
The thing is, Kriegers obviously do not need morale "boosters" like other regiments do. Kreig commissars mainly exist to keep the average Krieg soldier from charging blindly into enemy fire. They also exist to keep the general Krieger populace from shit-talking other regiments to their face for being too cowardly.
There have literally been accounts where Kriegsmen have executed/mutinied against their own commissars (usually commissars not from Krieg) for "treason", aka, the commissar was being too much of a coward and the Kriegsmen couldn't handle nothing happening.

It feels like the Astartes is equipped with better sensors so he was able to locate the enemies first. He would've relayed the enemy's location to his team, giving them time to prepare and his first shot was actually a signal for the guards to start firing. His team clearly knows where to shoot when they start firing.

Some scary stuff really when combined with a horse that just won't die and and rider that emits happy gas mask noises as it with horse and spear are, snorting, stomping, stabbing, and even blowing up the tanks. Also, iirc the Death Korps of Kriege ‘Medics’ are called Quartermasters... Because if you’re to wounded to fight or will cost too many resources to get you back in the fight, he’ll just kill you and pick up your gear for the next guy.

Watch a couple of lore videos on the Death Corps to get some context for their tactics and motivation. Can recommend the Adeptus Ridiculous, Baldermort and Arch.

I believe they communicate via hand signals for systematic effect . The Lancers are called " deathriders " . The tip of the lance has an explosive attached able to breach armor , basically medieval cavalry with genetically altered horses that can have most of their organs blown up and keep going with sci fi explosive Lances

The astartes who fired the first shot carries a bolter which is basically a small canon cabable of firing explosive, armor piercing rounds
