  • This time we are exploring coal train operations from The Newman Coal Facility near Blue Ridge West Virginia and following it to Pond Run. The action actually starts in Livingston Yard where an empty coal train is pulling in from Pond Run that was emptied the night before. We are going to pick up the action from there as it makes its way back to the Ridgeline Subdivision for another load and then return to Pond Run. This is 1 of many coal trains that serve the region from other coal plants and we will cover all of them in future videos.
    Part 2 of this video will cover how coal is transferred from car to ship and that video is coming soon.

    Godday, this is a great layout, incredibly beautiful scenery and extremely detailed. I'm just missing one thing, and that's a voice that, along with the text on the screen, reads out and tells a little about the landscape you drive through. It would make your video much more alive instead of just hearing the sound of the locomotive. I'm sure I'm not the only one who misses this.

    Wow, I love the layout, but I just can't get past the fact that the vehicles don't match the train era.

      That is 1 of the challenges we face being a "club" layout". We run our prototypical operating sessions using equipment that matches the era. Rest of the time, its "free running" meaning the club members run their personal owned equipment as you see here in the video. The club member who models CSX makes our videos, so what you're seeing is his equipment.

    Unit trains always have top priority over other trains.

      Not all trains do, depends on the commodity they are hauling. Coal is actually low on the priority list unlike the old Tropicana Juice train which was expedited to the northeast and was only held in sidings for Amtrak! Enjoy your fresh glass of orange juice sir! Thanks for watching.

      Coal and grain trains are usually on the bottom of the priority list now. Manifests, stack, and oil trains are the highest priority

    Awesome. Wish I was there in person. Is that a bit of N Scale on the top there at Blue Ridge 15:24 or do my eyes deceive me?

    • @centralfloridarailroadmodelers
      @centralfloridarailroadmodelers  Год назад +1

      Its all HO scale, however, yes there is a small section that is N scale which we tried to simulate as being a narrow gauge line through the mountains compared to the HO line.

    Very nice coal train. Where did you get the hoppers?

      @centralfloridarailroadmodelers  10 месяцев назад +1

      those are Walthers RD4 class hoppers boxed in packs of 6 that were released a few years ago. I managed to find them from individual sellers on ebay here and there. I wish they would release more! They are awesome and run great!

      I do suggest watching our very first 2 videos which is both a short and long detailed tour of the entire layout. Plus as we progressed further through each of our videos, you will be very familiar about how our layout is structured. Thank you for watching!

    You do not change power or stop Unit trains. They run through to and from their destination without delays.

    • @centralfloridarailroadmodelers
      @centralfloridarailroadmodelers  Год назад +1

      not always. Coal trains do have points where they are held until needed. A great example is CSX's West Jacksonville Yard. Both coal and rock trains are staged there until needed at their destinations further south.
