    Very nicely edited and explained… With three different friends monthly Operations sessions locally, I’m fortunate to function as Yardmaster on a pass through yard, a session Dispatcher, and a Road Crew. It’s a great hobby, and Operations adds an fantastic perspective to it. Thanks for sharing…

    I love it! So many switching videos are just video over music. I enjoy it more when someone explains what is happening.

      Glad you enjoyed the video and I agree with you. I like to explain what's going on and why. You might not agree with me or might have a better/different approach, but at least you can understand what I'm doing. Happy Modeling!

    All your videos are terrific. You explain stuff clearly. Lots of info here. I just subscribed so looking forward to more of your videos. Oh ... also the layout is really really nice. Great backdrop buildings. Wonderful ballasting. Super yard. Looks like a fun fun layout to run trains on. What I really like is that you do all this without complicating things. It's simple and straightforward just like in the real world. Keep it up. Bill

      Bill - Thanks for the super feedback. Much appreciated. I agree with the "simple," so I was really surprised to be able to keep 6 experienced operators busy and having fun for 3 hours during an operating session. Everyone seems to enjoy the experience. Thanks again.

      I have a personal aversion to car cards and waybills. Just a personal idiosyncracy. You think your system would work as smoothly and cleanly with switchlists? Did you try switchlists before going to car cards? I'm going to experiment with switchlists to avoid all the shuffling and misplacement of the cards. Any advice on this? Again, wonderful videos. You on the west coast? Probably far from northwest PA where I am. I'd love to run your layout if you were 100 miles or so away.

      Any method to facilitate car movement would work. You could actually create switchlists from the car cards. With car cards, once I created and started using them, my system was up and running and I only touch the waybills to rotate them or to "tweak" a car's route to change the traffic pattern. Very flexible and simple.

      Just saw your addition comment; sorry...hadn't realized there was a comment that I hadn't replied to. My bad. Switchlists would work just as well as car cards. I think it comes down to personal preference. My trains are 6-8 cars long so not a lot of car cards to shuffle. I like the randomness that car cards provide. Actually, one could take my car cards for a train and make up a switchlist, then operate via the list and not the cards. Try your switchlists and see what you think. If it works for you, great; go with it. (Greetings from south-central Virginia)

      Thanks for the response. That was sort of my thinking. For short trains and not hundreds of cars switched per session (which apparently is what you do), I thought switchlists are more straightforward and less confusing than car cards. Of course, that might just be a personal preference. Again, I think you have outstanding videos and operational instructions. I've referred them to two friends and they both agree. One said he was almost tempted to start over and dismantle his layout after watching what you do. And he's a great modeler and operator too. Strong praise indeed.

      Glad you like the selections. They're from the RUclips music library. At about 10:25, that's "Book Bag" (artist: E's Jammy Jams). Enjoy!

    Great again! One question; why needs loc 1260 always to be run with its longest nose in front?

    • @Vigment13
      @Vigment13  4 года назад

      Great question. In the early 1950s (the time period for the Willow Creek RR) many railroads ran the early diesels long hood forward because they thought this was a safer position to put the cab. Kind of like having the boiler of a steam loco running forward ahead of the cab. On the Willow Creek, we're in a further transition: our EMD locos run short hood forward, but all other locos still leave Waverly running long hood forward. This adds a bit of fun to the operating session as well as being realistic. Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for your feedback!

    What is that strange switcher sitting off the turntable near the coal tipple? Ive never seen one before.

    • @Vigment13
      @Vigment13  6 лет назад +1

      That's a Fairbanks Morse (FM) H10-44 diesel switcher. The UPRR had 5 of these units; 2 of them service the Willow Creek Subdivision.
