  • This is the first part in a new series, where I will be documenting the process of creating a custom #opensource Transmission control module (TCM) for my modern #Mercedes vehicle, using the #ESP32 micro-controller!
    In this part I will discuss the history of the TCM in this vehicle, as well as taking a look at
    some of the issues the gearbox has, and which ones can be fixed with a new controller (software issues), without having to service the gearbox itself.
    If you guys have any questions about the project, please do say so in the comments below.

    Hi. It's a little late. But. When you release the accelerator, an unpleasant jolt almost constantly occurs. If you select only the first gear and drive it, then there is no push when you release the accelerator. Also, if you select the second gear and drive it, then there will also be no push.

    Wow, I truly adore what you are doing. This could change the entire aftermarket solution business for these transmissions, there is a ton of them and are installed in very recent cars as well. I am too a proud owner of a W211 220CDI with 722.6 but the transmission is troubling me. The problems are shuddering, flaring mainly in 3rd and 4th gear, harsh TCC lockup in 2nd, erratic and elevated idle RPM (should be around 600RPM, mine goes up to 900). I have to play with the gas pedal in order to stop the transmission from shuddering. I've been investigating forums and videos, studying all transmission components to figure out what could solve the problem, but I have not found a definitive answer even when this is a common problem among many 722.6 owners. I think it is related to oil pressure issue rather than a mechanic failure. The problems only occur when the oil temperature rises a little bit, but almost disappear after the oil is at 80 degrees Celsius. The higher RPM remain though, with them dropping to 600 from time to time.
    I hope this helps you somewhat and I wish you good luck with the project. Keep it up, hard work pays off and it will when your TCM is finished. This is how millionaires are born :) Cheers

    Transmission controller /computer not working correctly. What to do?
    A. Have the vehicle taken to a professional and pay out the ass for labor as there is no guarantee of a fix ($100 Hr avg. in the States) and then you still have a badly designed unit
    Or
    B. Figure out why the factory unit sucks and build yourself a new computer to control the transmission on your ride
    If any viewers chose B then your a Gear-Head.
    This guy is inspiring, it's hotrodding at its finest and I salute you sir

    Been following this for a while. Great work. I currently have three 722.6 Vehicles and luckily no issues. Wish there was a replacement board for the 722.7, I've had to junk two cars already from unfixeable 722.7 TCUs.

    Great job Mate! My ML350 W163 got exact same issue as your Merc. I'm planning to order PCB since I'm going to install supercharger in it and I need better solution for mapping gearbox. One question: would you mind to send me list of the components for ver. 1.3? I've tried to use tutorial from provided link at Github but I don't know how to export list of components.
    Very proud of you and work you have done, peace!

    Looking good. This is very interesting. I am currently starting an engine computers build. If you can build a universal application, this would be ideal for alot of manufacturers. The burning question. Have you checks the speed sensors for metal debris. It will bugger up the signal for input output shaft speeds. Leading to terrible shifting and it feels like it software related. But it eats the torque converter and piles more metal on the sensors. Self diagnosis doesn't get any results unless you oscope the speed sensors. Even then, there a switch and the slew rate is slowed. Sending the tcm garbage data. This has been a really common problem. The speed sensors are facing straight up and collect the debris very well. Just thought I would let you know the common issue that feels like program could fix it. But it's a physical sensor getting junk on it. Pretty simple repair. Drop the valve body and you will see what I am talking about...

    Rc protection is a tricky one. Forward voltage drop on the diod is a the reason you might not receive ful vcc. Depending on the voltage regulator you might not have the extra voltage to drop.

    do i did the platine change in my gearbox, above my mechatronik unit in my 722,6 and a oil change and filter change ofc, it worked fine again some time, after it broke down again dont wanting to shift out of 2nd gear or above, then when locking up in the gear i needed to turn off the car to even get it out of neutral into reverse or park, then i replaced the shifter, there were some broken off pieces so i think that was the problem there, now all works great its just that the cars 1st, to 2nd shift is a bit weird, like its not kicking or something but when accelerating, it goes a bit over the top with the rpm and then like draws back, sound like the clutch converter lockup you talked about, would the tcm change that for me ?

    Do you ever plan on making one of these compatible with a W210? I’ve got a 722.6 in my W210 with the OM606 diesel and I want to retain all of the factory modules. I get the flaring while shifting and when cold the gearbox doesn’t like to shift. I would absolutely buy one of these if they are compatible!

    Hello, I have 722.6 in a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 70,000 miles, the TCC comes in harsh when the oil is cold and in my opinion way too early in the rev range. It has a very aggressive economy regime and this problem is common in mercs and sprinter vans and Jeeps with this box. I have often thought 'I wish I could reprogramme the controller to lift the revs threshold when cold' ( I was a mechatronics engineer, now retired) . When it's very very cold it does disable the TCC anyway, but mid temperature it doesn't. I came across your brilliant PCB, how do I contact you to purchase an assembled and coded one? Do you have a website to sell them? The real problem I understand is that there is an internal leak in the torque converter but the rubbish software means it cannot cope and you have to replace the TC and maybe fit a Sonnax revised damper valve in the valve block. Software is easier for me so i'd love to get hold of your PCB and code, how can i do that? PS. I also have a Mercedes SL350 with the 7 speed 722.9 but it again has rubbish software, maybe another controller project. It has flare and poor change performance, it's got 130,000 miles on it. It's the least sporty change ever, even in sport mode. Kudos on your work, brilliant. regards Guy Laughton

    • @RANDASH
      @RANDASH  3 года назад

      It can't. The 722.9s TCM is part of the valve body itself so playing with it is impossible.

    • @radoro
      @radoro 3 года назад

      @@RANDASH And also I think there are some security algorithms involved in receiving the CAN signals from other important ECUs. The signals likely aren't encrypted, but rather - verified using some message signing algorithm. Not knowing the keys means the controller won't be able to send some important signals to the Engine Management controller (and so - the engine will most probably stay in limp mode the whole time). This is part of the "theft protection" in vehicles made after 2009 (I think)

      @@caryfuk8 the reason for current measuring is to keep track in case a solenoid is going bad / short circuit. Hence why all solenoids have current measuring. The PWM solenoids will benefit the most from this though :)
