Daron (guitar) does most of the backup vocals and some lead vocals (Not the bass player Shavo) ... Daron clarified that by the time System of a Down was working on this album(s) 'Mesmerize' and 'Hypnotize'... Serj (lead vocals) was becoming reluctant to sing certain songs, so Daron sang lead just to get the tracks done for the album. 'Question?' is one of my fave songs by S.O.A.D. 🤘🤘🔥🔥
It is true that serj had wanted to start his solo career before mez/hyp and the rest of the band essentially begged him to make the records, but daron and serj both becoming a lead singer type duo was a mutual agreement not necessarily serj not wanting to sing his parts.

Noel wrote the songs and Liam was the singer...But on Oasis' 2nd album, there were songs Liam didn't like in the studio ('Wonderwall' was one of them!) and Noel decided that he would sing lead on songs if Liam refused... Liam was not happy w/ that prospect, but gave in. It was one of many issues between them. Liam even said it recently in interviews that singing was his gig and Noel was doing his gig in Oasis... He wasn't happy about it. I remember that System on the 'Hypnotize' tour were so at odds that they traveled separately for Ozzfest... they were that fractured by that point. Recently, Daron said in an interview that he sang lead on the later System of a down records because it was the only way to finish the record... Serj did not like certain song apparently. The drummer John Dolmayan said he wanted System to make a new record, but Serj won't do it apparently - he wants to do his own thing musically, but still tours w/ System occasionally.

Considering how much rock/metal you review, I'd love to see you go back to some of the godfathers of rock - Black Sabbath! There is a great song of theirs that seems very relevant at the moment - WarPigs (OzzyOsbourne was their singer at the time) There's also a great cover of WarPigs done by a band called BrassAgainst that's definitely worth checking out. After that I'd check out their album Heaven and Hell, starting with the first song Neon Knights. Ronnie James Dio was their singer on that album. The whole album is gorgeous and in my opinion still holds up today.

When I got the first cd(yea, I’m very old), I was blown away, but I was concerned that the lead vocals were too esoteric and “operatic”. The second voice is so smooth and then harsh, and unbelievably well executed! I’ve since learned that people love the lead vocals at an astonishing level!
