Whiskeytown was a blazing train on a one way track heading towards a self induced, unmovable collision. But damn, if they didn't create one of the best albums of all time, Strangers Almanac.
I saw Whiskeytown at The Zephyr Club in SLC '97/'98. First, I stumbled into Ryan in the stairway. Later, during the show, he pointed his finger at me, and said sing this one. He invited a girl, too.We got on stage. We both sang Everything I Do together. Laughing too hard.
Whiskeytown was one incredible group. I don't know how in God's name I did not know of their existence at the time they were together creating this incredible music. Thank God that at Amazon their music is still available. I am going to buy their entire discography of what is still available. So glad that they appeared on the ACL stage.
@@mattiasneander4769 @michaelgarrity6090 I wouldn't go so far as to say "not necessary." The extended version of Faithless Street is well worth the investment, as is Pneumonia.
I remember buying Gold after hearing Ryan sing one of the songs from it....I then needed more of his music so found the Whiskeytown albums. Brilliant musicians, they play with such great timing and ability. Love the moments of both male/female vocal, even during his solo career...always sounds so good.
@@MLCDelux you know what, I think I've confused Caitlin Cary for Catherine Popper. I'm sorry about that. I did find this song from a Caitlyn Cary solo album that Ryan appeared on. Here is a link : ruclips.net/video/lrS6DGENWOE/видео.html
@@MLCDelux Caitlin showed up for a special appearance back when the Cards were on tour and stopped in North Carolina. Either 2005 or 2006 since Catherine Popper was still in the band. Pretty sure it was Raleigh. There was an impromptu Whiskeytown reunion later that night at a small bar down the street.
@@TheNickSweat wow, how cool to have been witness to that reunion. That was a good year to be a fan, I still get mind blown when I hear live Cardinals. I miss Neil .
This is a great show, great setlist! I would take any random sampling of Stranger's Almanac, but Pneumonia is nearly as good. I just love that story Caitlin would tell, that she stuck with Ryan through so many years and lineups just to see what craziness would happen next. The highs were that special.
Omg I’m ssssO glad I stumbled upon a musical artist I’ve admired from the first song I ever heard of Ryan Adam’s 💓… Huge love & admiration for your writing 🎶🫶🎶
I like talking with Ed when Mike Watt plays Pittsburgh, which is where Ed has lived for years now. Ed always shows up to see Mike. I have got Ed to sign some stuff 2 out of 3 times so far. Ed`s band Food opened for Mike when he did the Hyphenated Man Tour and then came out and played B.O.C.`s The Red & The Black with Mike. I always tell him that we might not still be seeing Mike if it were not for himself driving his family`s station wagon to California "fROMOHIO" to spark Mike into playing again after D. Boon`s death......leading to the formation of fIREHOSE. This is the first time I ever saw footage of him with Ryan. Far Out (Old Dudes) ! Mike had to cancel this last time because of the Covid-19 bullshit........bummer.
He is the secret sauce: great player and singer who understands the importance of supporting the song. Always dig his stuff. Firehose means so much to me. Amazing.
That Graham Parsons project is what split the band up, I noticed the guy that produced his first album was on the stage with him that night. Thus they saw a possible Gold Mine and didn't think the rest of the band deserved a cut, tats basically what it was. They were like, we can make more off Ryanif he's a single star, thus he doesn't mind us getting a bigger cut. Follow the money. They never cashed in tat much because he's so difficult, him going to his own label is the only thing that made him cash in tbh. He has a loyal following, thus he can make bank.

Couldn't have said it better myself.
I completely agree. It is my absolute favorite album of the 90s, and that decade was filled with pretty amazing albums.
Absolutely 💯
Old fart here 71 years old and I remember when this came out. Wore it out and it's still one of the best albums ever.

This is the best Ryan Adams. I wish I was around for it.
Dancing With The Women At The Bar is rockin! 🎸
It's one of my favourites, not just of Whiskeytown but of all Ryan's stuff.
Quite possibly some of the best music I will ever know! Pristine AF!
Wow. Memories of yesteryear. Incredible music.
The vocals with Caitlin on Everything I Do are solid gold
It’s so cool that they were doing this when Americana music was not en vogue.
Respectfully, alt. country was in full swing at this point. Respectfully.
Dude I thought this was lost forever, its even better than I remember
who the fuck gave this a thumbs down, mandy moore?
Saw them at The Whiskey on this tour. Without question one of the best rock 'n roll shows I've seen in my 60+ years.
Wish I would have seen these guys back then.

Not necessary. "Strangers Almanac" is top 3 of all albums in the 1990's. But the rest of their recordings isn't.

One of the best things on RUclips. I’m going to time-travel back to Whiskeytown days, seriously 😇🙏🥀
beginning of a brilliant career
I got to see them at a tiny club in Iowa City in 1996. I was at the front the whole time. Blew me away.

I too bought Gold after 20 sec of the first cut
Oh my!! Still all GEMS to me and my soul will never tire of these tunes.. thanks so much for sharing🔥
Wish Ryan Adams would do something with Caitlin Cary again
She appears on Cold Roses. But yeah, that's also like 15 years old now.

This version of Dancing with the Women is amazing. Love it sped up
Yesterday’s News is still to this day my favorite Ryan Adams song. ..and it’s not particularly close.
Perfect music
Ed fROMOHIO (Ed Crawford) in the house! Lead singer and guitar player from fIREHOSE, which was 2/3rds of the Minutemen after D. Boon's untimely death.
Exactly Right!
What an ABSOLUTE gem... I'm crying omg
So very thrilled to see And hear “The Battle” performed live. Exquisite 🌺
SHE CAN BRING IT.....
Big love to everyone in this band ♥
Amazing to see this footage after only listening to their albums for years, to see them in action is like christmas

They jamming at the 8 min mark 😎
What is the name of the last song? It is so beautiful.
sude1020 It’s called The Battle and the War. Yes, very nice. Never seen or heard it anywhere else.
Caitlin Cary released that Song entitled The Battle featuring Ryan. You can find it on Spotify.

is that Catherine Popper on Bass?
Ed from Ohio! Fuckin' Ed Crawford from fIREHOSE!!!

Yep.
Track 5 from their second album, “Strangers Almanac”... and my favorite from that album.

It looks like it was transferred from someone’s personal VHS recording of Austin City Limits.
