super! great comparison! thanks man :)
great test, all tuners very good and each one with its characteristics.
Now I want to see these differences smaller than 1 cents in the ear.
I'm afraid Hertz is quite difference from cent. Depend on the range, according to Yamaha, "1 Hz is equal to roughly 4 cents......at the range of the note an octave below B, 1 Hz is equal to roughly 8 cents, and at the octave above, 1 Hz is equal to roughly 2 cents."
Let's take 4 cents as average. So in your test, every time you alter 0.1 Hz , you actually have altered about 0.4 cents, rather than "10 cents" as you said. 10 cents is very off!
However, I still like your test, which clearly shows the Polytunes are slightly more accurate than Boss in Strobe Mode. Those regular LED tuners, like TU-3, are good for live, quick; strobe is great for recording, setup etc.
Love polytune 3 noir ❤
Thanks you
The question is: The strings doesn't sound perfectly as a pure frequency. So, the tuners have a "calibration" trying to reach/simulate a guitar/bass string (they oscilate). I think that makes the Polytune 3 a better tuner pedal
I think you are not doing the math right. When you say that 109.8 is 20 cents out of A (110.0), you are not accounting for the fact that a "cent" mean 1/100 of a semitone. In this case, one cent means 0.00635403266503 Hertz for an A 110Hz note
good observation, in the end everything is marketing.
Nice video! Which tuner do you prefer?
Polytune 3 mini and Polytune clip.
Why is the Boss tunner always some cents lower than the other tuners?
Firstly, nice review man.
Thankyou for the video.
I have a question about Polytune clip.
Can polytune clip catch 30.87Hz (B0)?
I tuned up my guitar to Double Drop B and i usually using plugins for make tuning.
I need a piezzo tuner like polytune clip to using it on live. Is it works fine with extended ranged 8 string guitars tuning?
p.s. im not native. sorry about my english.
It's not a easy question to answer. Low B strings have many harmonics which can interfere with the piezo sensor from detecting the main note/ frequency. If you have a music store around you go test out the PT clip. I would also say that the TC Unitune clip tuner maybe a better and cheaper option as Bass doesn't require Polytune strum mode. Good luck!
Besides being able to use a battery and a 9V power out on the pedal is there anything else the Polytune 3 can do that the Polytune 3 Mini can't do?
