  • In previous videos, we've shown off how neat a #SurfaceDuo looks for DS #emulation. In this video, we take it a step further by giving a brief introduction to getting started playing DS games (via DraStic) and 3DS games (via Citra).
    Note on getting DS/3DS ROMs:
    ROMs played in this video are copies of games from my physical library. If you also have a large, physical library, I'd recommend looking into modifying a 3DS' software to back them up and play them on other devices. Check out the links below for helpful guides to do just that.

    Update: As of March, 2024 Citra has been scrubbed from official channels following a settlement between the Yuzu team and Nintendo. This video will be left up for general reference, but links provided in the video description aren't guaranteed to function properly.

    What a well written and presented video. It’s disappointing to see that someone so professional has so few subscribers. Wish you the best with this. Cheers

    Nice. That looks cosmetically the best option for 3ds emulation but it also shows me how great the 3ds itself was and how necessary the real console is to own if you want to play and keep the games longer term. A quick play through emulation of something might be fine but the beauty of the 3ds was the portability, pick up and play speed and the unique aspects of the hardware to go with the pretty vast game library. Can see why the console and physical game market for 3ds is booming.

      I totally agree. Emulation is rarely a 100% perfect alternative to the original hardware. (Hell, we're still a while away from even a 80% perfect alternative to the 3DS.) Surface Duos are probably the best form factor mimmic we have among smartphones right now, but there's no beating the physical controls or convenience of slotting a game into a New 3DS (if able).

    Do you have a screen setting for playing the SD2 with a controller (Gamesir)? So basically a setting that fills out more of the bottom screen.

      There should be a config file provided in the Ko-Fi link that'll allow you to do that. (If not, let me know.) Alternatively, Citra MMJ has a screen layout editor in its app settings while running a game if you'd prefer more hands-on editing.

    How did you back up your ds games? I have a special tool for my gba games but I can figure out ds games.

      I use a softmodded 3DS running boot9strap/GODMODE. It's very easy to set up and simple to use after the first couple times. I can't recommend it enough.

    The only thing that’s left is to make a custom attachable controller similar to a razor Kishi, or backbone that you can plug into the surface duo to create the perfect 3DS.

    • @GameXData
      @GameXData  Год назад

      We'd recommend checking out the Bluetooth version of the GameSir x2. It works exactly the same as a Kishi but fits a lot more phones since it doesn't need to connect via USB-C

    In having trouble loading my games files. They just won't load even though all the roms are unzipped. Any suggestions would be much appreciated

      I'll see what I can do! First up, which system are you trying to emulate, and which app are you using for emulation?

    Do you also experience a sound delay when using drastic? I have a duo 2

    • @GameXData
      @GameXData  6 месяцев назад

      I've never experienced that myself. On most smartphones from the past 5 or 6 years that I've tested, DraStic has seemed to run without any significant issues. As with any emulator, certain edge cases might have unique problems though. If one game's having sound issues, you may want to try playing another game to see if DraStic just has trouble with that specific game.

    Get a Nacon MG-X Pro and this would be DS/3DS monster.

    Neat. Hard to be more than just that though with a touchscreen being your only option for button inputs. If you have to buy a controller that can cost $60 or more on top of the SurfaceDuo, then you might as well just get an actual 3DS and save some money while getting original hardware.

    Are u using duo 1 or 2?

    • @GameXData
      @GameXData  2 года назад +1

      Both! I'm definitely using my Duo 2 more often these days, but I occasionally go back to the Duo 1 because I have some save files on there I still haven't migrated over.

      Same here. vertical DS games like brain Age seem to give me fits setting up the orientation but otherwise the experience is just as pleasant as in this video although to be honest tablets make a pretty good option as well. Even the 2DS js basically a tablet with cosmetic separation of the 2 "screens"
