If SNK can bring back SamSho then Capcom can bring back Darkstalkers Since Street Fighter is going in a more realistic direction, Darkstalkers can be the more cartoonish/anime alternative
I am getting near to 50yo so i remember seeing Darkstalkers 1 in my local Lazer Quest and being a huge SF2 fan soon as I seen the arcade i was mesmerised! And spent all my money on it that day and it's a rightly revered fighting game that Capcom what with the success of SF6 recently i hope they bring out a new version. But this is Capcom and unless they can guarantee to make money then it's unlikely we'll see a new version which is really sad as I am positive if made well it would do great sales. Here's hoping!!🙏 *Wow I can't remember that reveal of the 2010 Darkstalkers game...Ono was on such a roll at the time, they should have green lit this new game.😢
Good video. I always love new videos discussing the series, because a series isn’t truly dead if the fans keep it alive. Perfect finale. It’s funny how Darkstalkers does well for what it is but Capcom’s bean counters always put ridiculous expectations on it. Expecting a new franchise in 1994, where there was SOOOOO much competition in the fighting game genre, to do the same numbers as the 1991 Street Fighter 2, where it was literally the only fighting game on the market, is so stupid. It’s about as stupid as believing Street Fighter X Tekken should theoretically have double the sales of both games, not realizing there might be more than a little cross-fandom between the two. Darkstalkers Resurrection placing 7th on PSN sales charts might not seem impressive, but sales & marketing people of any merit should be able to spin that to attract new people. You definitely won’t when you declare in less than a month that it failed to reach sales expectations. I definitely want a new Darkstalkers but it has to reach the same bar of quality that the series is known for. It can’t afford to have a bad sequel. I’d prefer no new game to a mediocre one. Maybe someday Capcom will find the right people and create a new Darkstalkers. Until then, it’s up to the fans to keep it alive!
This generation loves anime, Darkstalkers is the godfather of anime fighters. Why not just release a new game for this generation to latch onto. It's over the top, zany, funny, action packed, fast paced and totally rad! Come on Capcom stop being scared!
Fun fact - Crouchwalk was taken from Fatal Fury series, and alt.color scheme of Cham Cham in SamSho 2 was directly inspired by Felicia, so Capcom and SNK at it again))) Fun fact 2 - Darkstalkers is the first fighting game that introduced Guard Cancels Fun fact 3 - "Damage Gauge" was inspired by original Killer Instinct. In turn reboot of KI made their "Instincts" for their characters clearly inspired by VS's Dark Force system. Also, Dark force is a precursor to STANDS from Capcom Jojo fighting game for CPS3 Fun fact 4 - VS is the first fighting game with recoverable "potential damage" or "white damage" Not so Fun fact 5 - port for D1 was released only for PS1... in march 1996. Port for D2 was released only for Sega Saturn in... february 1996. Yes, Capcom managment was THAT stupid. D3 was ported to PS1 and Saturn in 98, but as they say, the damage was done - mainstream public do not know about Darkstalkers. It was mostly for arcade hardcore players, which is why i think the series died. From me personally, i think its one of best series in the genre, and VS is still my favorite fighting game of all time.

Everyone who knew of and loved the game had already purchased several versions of it, and without a new entry there is no way to appeal to people who have never heard of it. Yet it STILL made the top 10 in sales. Honestly, what the hell were they expecting?

It took capcom almost 8 years to make up for the stuff they were pulling at the time. Alot of people dont know how much capcom was struggling at the time, considering the only major success for them at the time was SF4 and marvel, marvel being an especially expensive property to produce given its licensed nature.
man, I would love for Capcom to bring Darkstalkers back because of its off-the-wall characters, crazy moves and cool, dark aesthetic, but I think they would have an uphill battle since a game like that already exists, and it's the Guilty Gear franchise. Everytime I think of a modern Darkstalkers I just think it would be like Guilty Gear, and this is competition I don't think they can beat in that space.
