With Athena having three (to my knowledge) different re-imaginings as it were and such a long lasting legacy, I've always considered her the SNK mascot. She has a ton of variety to her appearances yet maintains an iconic look, despite differing hair and costumes. 0:56 - Survival Horror had become popular at the time and her psychic powers lend themselves surprisingly well to the genre. Certainly does appear to be SNK's attempt to make a more console oriented game, one that wouldn't work within their arcade background. 2:31 - What do you know; they are actually prepared for the inevitable breakout of their horrific experiments. 4:34 - That is a very disorienting cue that there is something to find. Nice to have a visual method of indication but gosh my eyes. 7:00 - I assume they meant to zoom in on her pockets, but instead it seems like Athena ate her ringing phone. 12:57 - Given Athena seems to be learning a new power every few seconds, this makes so much sense. Her psychic power development is rapid-fire. 18:54 - I wonder if, had this game been translated, whether they would have kept this puzzle as is. I recall the first Project Zero having a puzzle that was untranslated, and a lot of people get stopped on it because they assume it's a clock involved in the puzzle (not realising that the top number of the circle reads "zero" rather than "twelve." 23:11 - An thus Psycho Ball makes an appearance... strangely shot out of Athena's chest. 25:57 - What is rather interesting is that it's not merely creating an ultimate lifeform, but bringing one back. It does raise questions of how Tantalus existed before and how it died out in the first place given the powers it's resurrected self has. 29:14 - I was able to get that pacing issue purely from how long it took for you to get to your first fight in the game. Quite surprising the amount of time it takes for Athena, a regular fighting game character, to get into a fight. 31:40 - Given the age of the game, the clear faces and expressions of the characters is certainly praise worthy. There's a good flow of animation in this highlighted scene as well (and plenty of funny janky ones as well if that early running scene is any indication).

Interesting game to say the least, also... funny thing, the Dino area was a stage in KOF '99.

Given SNK has been giving it's non-KOF & SamSho IPs attention as of late (from what we've seen with Garou COW), maybe Athena's own series can get a resurgence in the future. Since that damn "Dragon Spirit" plotline had been stalled since 2001 and _clearly_ won't be resolved in KOF proper.

Love your work, and this is another great vid. However, the music a tad bit too loud. Haha! Can hear you loud and clear, but the music gets a bit annoying. 😅 Nothing deal breaker though. Keep up these vids, mate. 👍

While this game does look good Morrigan & Dan have the worst sprites in my opinion. Also it doesn't help they used the SF Alpha sprites of Cammy, Guile, Blanka, Sagat, etc. instead of recreating brand new ones like they did for Ryu, Ken, Chun Li, Akuma, and Bison. This game is still godlike nonetheless.

My account got hacked so my downloaded games are lost so after watching this video i never knew it was available on disk so bought one a bit pricey £40 but that was the cheapest some copies are selling fpr £90/100

i would pay more for the game without the new art. It's a huge stain on the series.

The only people that prefer CvS1 are the ones who really hate roll cancelling and Blanka or people that like the 2D backgrounds more.

18:48 Happy you covered my goat War Machine, love his cheap ass Smart Bombs and amazing assist, worth mentioning War Machine has the damage scaling bug that Tron and Ken have with his anti-air assist, if it gets most of its hits it can easily shread up to 50% of their HP, it's ridiculous

I like using Akuma as an assist for Nova since the tatsumaki is good for helping Nova approach and abuse the strong air normals and movement.

everyone gives this game crap for reusing character sprits and backgrounds. which is true it does do that, but it steps it in different areas. The music is better with becoming the best version of their character themes with Captain America, Spider-Man, Ryu, and M. Bison as an example. Also they gave us a good final boss in Cyber Akuma instead of fighting your secondary character after defeating Apocalypse in x-men vs. street fighter

10/10 gameplay , 1/10 characters , 1/10 music , 1/10 graphics

It requires no introduction, now here's a paragraph of my introduction to this game. (I enjoyed the video, just being a brat haha)

From what I've learned: An MvC fan is ALWAYS guarranteed to be a twewy fan.

Cable's aHVB is 90% of the reason why he's broken; the other part is that he can 'armor break' incoming opponents. Using good timing with air heavy, you can time it so the projectile hits as they enter, and won't recover until they hit the ground, leaving them open for a few frames. Magneto has a 1-frame cr. L, meaning most of the cast starts the round blocking, except Mega Man, who can trade due to his 1-frame cr. L. He also has triangle jumps that are fast, leading to ambiguous mixup, including overheads, lows, and throws leading to full-combos. He also can easily weave in lights into his combos, leading to resets that are easy to recover. Storm has triangle jumps, too, but her greatest strength is being a battery without contention. That is, she can super jump and whiff heavy to build meter in combination with float when necessary and there aren't many in the cast who can contend with that. No Hailstorm? No problem! Hailstorm also deals incredible chip damage, allowing Storm to always be able to pressure an opponent. She's still paying for her crimes in future installments. Sentinel, through use of his flight, can call assists at super jump height, something that's very limited within the cast of MvC2. With the right assists (Commando, looking at you), this makes judging where the assist was called incredibly difficult. He, too, is paying for his crimes.

I live in Japan for work, and I love mentioning to Japanese friends that MvC2 has a long-enduring competitive scene in the West. The opinion on it in Japan is actually pretty negative from what I gather.

MVC is back

Respectfully I’m not sure this video needed to be made, lol. It’s pretty much widely agreed upon and known that CvS2 is a better game than CvS1. I love both, but gameplay wise 2 is clearly better. But I will say that I have definitely always loved the music, aesthetic, and overall presentation of CvS1 more for sure.

I like to believe this was pitched as a DBZ game by CyberConnect2 but they eventually got to made Kakarot because of Jojo All Star Battle's success
