It's been a long time in the making, but I finally got around to covering 'The House of the Dead: Overkill'. This game means a lot to me, and I've been a massive fan of Overkill for over ten years now. Thank you very much to Anthony Aroya for being a part of it, and if you would like to check out his Indiegogo campaign, you can do so here - www.indiegogo.com/projects/the-misadventures-of-mike-and-spike#/ Thank you very much for watching.
I love seeing projects like this where people will just gush about something not exactly forgotten but that is their favorite, just going into anything and everything that makes it special. I love rail shooters but I've unfortunately not touched Overkill yet despite forming a long-term memory playing 4 at a theater. I'll have to get TotDO on Steam sooner than later. Thanks for this video.
Thank you very much for watching! I used to play HOTD4 so much at the arcade when I was a kid, and my original idea was to cover that game instead! See if you can get Typing Overkill on sale cause it'll be even sweeter that way 😎
I got this for my Wii the day it came out. It was perfection. Exactly what the Wii needed. I have the Steam version as well and play it all the time. This is an absolutely outstanding game, and you gave it the love and respect it deserves. Thank you for your hard work and passion. The House of the Dead franchise is lucky to have fans like you.
Thank you very much for watching! Your comment is very kind and I really appreciate it. I've been a big fan of HOTD ever since I was a kid, so I'm delighted to hear that you enjoyed my video
@@khanage1344 Don't forget to play the House of the Dead level in Sega All Stars Racing. You can even unlock Zobio and Zobiko and their car in the Wii and DS version. The Wii U version of Curien Mansion is my favorite course.
@@100Servings That was my favourite level as a kid! I'd always play as Zobio and Zobiko cause I thought it was so cool that there was HOTD representation in the game. The Curien Mansion stage in Sega All-Stars Tennis was also really good
Hotd and especially overkill have inspired me almost my whole life w- a lot of the stuff i create & consume. In on way or another, at least. Really good video, glad i stumbled across this while trying to find indie hotd stuff LOL
This game literally just stumbled into my head today from playing it as a kid on the Wii but I forgot the name. As I did a quick google search, your video popped up released 3 hours ago.... WHAT
I have 2 theories on this game 1. Clement having "powerful friends", could be a reference to Dr. Curien & Goldman 2. Washington's dad faked his death as an excuse to abandon his family
This video was so wholesome I can't even. Super glad I watched this. The title is pretty unassuming, tho, and would not be attractive to people who don't know what the game is about. If you want the video to have a wider reach maybe changing the title to something like: "this R rated wii game changed my life" or "the best zombie movie ever is actually a game for the wii" or something like that. I really really liked this and it made me smile so I just genuinely want it to do well and be seen by lots of people. Have a good one:)
@@thepowerisyetunknown7710 Thanks for watching! I liked having a simple title because I'd hate to potentially have a clickbaity/misleading title, but I'll see if I can think of some alternatives. Thanks again!
HotD Overkill was one of the most fun games I played with friends. We were all in our early 20s back in the day, most of us in college. Whenever we'd have the chance we'd get together and play something on the Wii, when we saw the trailers for Overkill we knew we just had to try it due to the whole cheesy grindhouse vibe to it. We always had a blast with it and quoting from it as well and trying to keep that Goregasm going for as long as possible. Anyway, awesome job on the vid and even more awesome you had Anthony share some of his stories about the game. It's a pity we never got a sequel, I can barely imagine how fun it would have been.
Thanks for watching! I'm really happy that you enjoyed it! Overkill is an elite game to play with friends, hey? I used to play it with a friend of mine when we were around 12-13 years old on the PS3 and it was so much fun! Such a funny game to put on with a group of buddies in a casual setting
I recall seeing that this game had 3D capability back in the PS3 days, and I can certainly say that the final boss is something I would not want to see with additional depth lol.
Overkill extended cut on PS3 was the first game in the series I owned. Sometime in 2013, I bought it at my local Gamestop along w/ Persona 4 Arena. I was re-introduced to one of two of my fave on rail shooters (I also love the Time Crisis series) as well as being introduced by the Arc System Works games ❤
That's awesome! Extended Cut was also the first HOTD game that I owned, and it's a great place to start. If you like Persona 4 Arena, stay tuned. I might have something in store for you 👀
@@trafalgar47official66 There are plenty more of those 'mistakes' in the game's cutscenes that you'll notice if you pay close attention! A really cool feature of the game
What the hell why isn't this game more well known. This is a masterpiece. If they adapted it word for word into a real movie it would be on top 10 cult movies of all time lists eeeeverywhere. Criterion level cinema, I can't even. Also the black guy totally has a tsundere crush on the white guy lmao, I wish them happiness after their marriage in Vegas
Heck yeah! The game is really awesome, yet sadly super underrated. Big ups on the Neku PFP, by the way. TWEWY is a game I'd love to cover in a big video because it's my favourite JRPG ever
It might be a cut above most home console light gun zombie shooters like the Resident Evil games, but only barely, and I'd say it loses more in terms of the series identity by imitating a grind house movie. It ends up being very monochrome and ugly, slow paced and boring when compared to 1, 2 or 3. It feels like a content rich home experience crafted for that environment, and the others all feel like explosive and dynamic fast paced arcade experiences. I guess it depends what you want out of your light gun games, but I would certainly not put this at the top of any list other than replay value.
Fair point about the identity, but I personally like how Overkill diverts from it. This is the first and only HOTD game to be developed by Westerners, so it would have been a missed opportunity if they tried to copy Sega's pre-existing style instead of putting their own spin on things. The other games in the series are fantastic and I love them to bits, too. Thank you for clicking on my video.
@@khanage1344 It's been a while since I played it last, but I might get th egame off the shalf and see if there's more to it, but I think I remember it pretty clearly, and I just played the heck out of every other light gun game on the Wii more than that one, it's my least favorite due to the slow pace and visual design. I also have Ghost Squad and HOTD 2&3, both arcade ports, and I grew up in the arcades, that's the experience I'm looking for. There was a HOTD arcade machine at my college in the cafeteria, and I would play one credit a day until I could beat the game consistently on it by the end, I'm looking for something that active and less strategic, like Umbrella Chronicles, which also has the camera look function and upgradeable weapons, and requires intelligent use of them. That's fine for what it is, but it's not what I expect from HOTD at all, it felt like they were bending themselves to someone else's design rather than experimenting on their own in an attempt to stay relevant. By the way, I use the Wii Zapper, I didn't catch if it's just a phrase you use, but I dearly hope you're not actually pointing the wiimote at the screen with your hand for shooting games, it defeats the entire purpose in my mind. There are a variety of gun peripherals of varying quality and usefulness, but anything is better than nothing. Then again, I grew up with an NES Zapper that you could actually use the sights to aim with, and since going to sensor bars nothing ever does that anymore, that I've found.
I understand that the style is pretty unique and fun, but gameplay wise this is a pretty poor lightgun shooter. Really boring encounters with not a lot of variety in enemies. I'd take any other House of the Dead game over this.
I respect it! We all have different tastes, and I personally love Overkill a lot. The enemy variety is something that never bothered me, and I can think of quite a few mutants that differ in gameplay you encounter throughout the game, but I thank you for clicking on the video 🙏🏻
