    • @7upjawa
      @7upjawa Год назад +1

      The time freeze only lasts a few moments before ending, so you won't be able to effectively time people out with it. Blanka came out in feb 2018 but the glitch got discovered in feb 2019. Add to this the fact that you need a super stocked to do the glitch and it was a pretty rare thing that you would be able to use it. Bafael has a video on some big damage punishes it can earn you, but generally having to always save your meter to perform the glitch is gonna make you play worse than just spending meter appropriately. It was a situational thing that could do some funny stuff and did not make Blanka very strong at all.

    You should've mentioned Sagat in SF2T. He had an insane uppercut, the best fireball in the game, quick normals and just a pain to deal with. Even though Sagat isn't as invincible with his DP like Ryu players use his Tiger Uppercut anyways because they are willing to trade...especially when Sagat uses the uppercut in close range. Ultra SF2 is a pretty unpopular game; Violent Ken and Akuma are broken. Violent Ken’s Command Dash leads to 50/50’s guessing games on which side he’ll shoryuken you or other mixup. Akuma still has aerial fireballs; no character in SF2 is designed to not get walled out by them. They travel SO horizontally. And both characters are also just really strong in general.

    Feels weird referring to SF2 as if it's one game. Maybe it makes more sense with newer games like SF5, where everyone plays the latest version but it's not the same with SF2. SF2 is not one game and the three versions Hyper Fighting, Champion Edition and Super Turbo still get played. You got to separate them when you talk about them or you don't make sense. For example Claw is low tier in Hyper Fighting and does not have a wall dive loop...Dictator is only top tier in Champion Edition.

    Sagat wasn't busted. He wasn't even top 3 in Vanilla. This sounds like a massive downplay but people really need to stop thinking Sagat was the only strong character in Vanilla. Alot of characters were stupid in Vanilla, the best being Seth, Akuma, Ryu.
    I'll mention the 2 major ones.
    Akuma had a Roundhouse loop on the whole cast that led into stun. Had amazing tools all around and did a ton of damage. This wasnt seen much outside of Japan because he had low health and needed decent neutral to play effectively.
    The most busted character in this game by far was Seth. All his jumping kicks crossed up, had instant dhalsim arms that made him vs zangief a 9-1 match up and terrible for others, great fireball, instant overheads, command grab that led into vortex, massively invincible DP that beat many characters. His EX Dp was 22 frames invul and led into anything after with EX Tanden, and to top it off he had midscreen unblockables that worked on the whole cast.
    He was in every sense of the word "Broken". Same as Akuma his only real flaw is his low health but that doesn't take away from his power and didn't change any matchups whatsoever.
    An HONERABLE mention could be that blankas fully charged Ultra could kill Seth doing over 600 dmg. That's it.
    Sagat while strong was at best just scrubby and easy to play. High health, high stun, high damage. This objectively didn't make him better than Seth or Akuma or even arguably Ryu since they all did similar damage if maximized, but this was sf4s first release and no one knew what they were doing, so naturally Sagat SEEMED stronger than everyone else.
    Seth and Akumas power were only really realized once super had already came out so they relatively remained overpowered while Sagat was heavily nerfed.

    In the arcade, I have only seen 2 occasions where a person had a perfect round, every round through the game; one on the original Street Figher 2, and one on Street Fighter 2 Championship Edition.
    SF2 - Ryu (I assume Ken would be the same way) - There was 1 special move that was completely broken. The hurricane kick could redizzy over and over. By doing that move over and over (as well as an initial jump light kick and a flurry of light low kicks for the initial stun), the person quite literally walked through the game w/o a single hit. I'm not sure if later revisions in the arcade fixed this or not, but this 'trick' was definitely repeatable in our local arcade (until it got replaced with CE). The redizzy technique also worked in the original SNES release as I used it to beat the game during a rental.
    SF2 Championship Edition - Vega - Same reasons as mentioned in the video. The player could reliably perform either a knockdown attack or a grab every time with his air move; with no chance to escape. The air move could even grab Ken and Ryu's shoryuken out of rising mid air. After the player walked through about a half a dozen other live opponents with ease, everyone gave up and watched him walk through the rest of the game w/o getting hit. Watching others in the arcade after that incident, the only char you'd ever see people playing was Vega vs Vega. It got nicknamed in our local arcade as 'Vega Fighter 2'. It was at that point that I stopped playing any of the SF games in the arcade again.

      Our fellow author uses what we might call an exaggeration, or more bluntly just straight up lying on the internet. Notion that SFV is "notoriously unbalanced" falls apart both theoretically and empirically. Both in ranked and offline play. Same with his opinion on season 3 Abigail, while thinking that it's the best version of a character in SFV is fine, there's no way "everyone started playing Abigail that season". Number of Abigails in season 3 didn't change, they just placed a bit bit higher than they did in season 2.

    Vanilla Akuma was better than Vanilla Sagat. At the end of vanilla they were putting him above Sagat. He just required a lot of execution. His roundhouse loop was a 1 frame link, but was the most consistent against Sagat oddly enough. Vanilla Akuma was also the first vortex character in SFIV. Which was the meta basically the entire lifespan of the game. Had vanilla had gone long Gen and Akuma would have likely surpassed Sagat

    • @CptJumper

She also has wall jump to get out of the corner and a stomping move to go with it. Jumping grab. Lightning kick thats safe on block. Ex bird kick thats 1 frame start up and almost impossible to parry or punish. 50/50 after landing a super. The difference between Chun and Yun is Yun requires a lot of skills to be good. On the other hand I would probably lose to Justin Wong with him only pressing one button

    All great assessments, I'd have to swap Abigail for Luke though. There's a a frame breakdown comparison of Luke special moves versus the cast of specialists and they showed him superior across the board. His projectile is still a lot faster than Bison after he absorbs your attack (which used to be the fastest), and Luke doesn't require any interaction. His light normals are deceptively long because they make him advance towards the opponent (the only character with this). He has all the benefits with no drawbacks. He can't quite rob you as easily as G or Urien used to, but he's not far off. His V-Trigger 1 makes approaching him or jumping impossible (so yeah...not allowed to move). He has an anti-command grab V-skill, just to make sure Zangief, R Mikea, or Abigail come up empty and can be completley neutralized. Luke is an absolute monster

    • @bustinmayo6595
      @bustinmayo6595 Год назад

      Nah, luke is top 1 but its not by THAT much. Speed alone doesnt make a fireball broken, his fireball is a good pressure tool sure but it can be easily jumped in on. Also his vskill 2 doesnt counter command grabs it counters regular grabs (and thats not the reason its busted).
      But yes, I agree luke is the best in the game, but hes the best in a currently very balanced game

    Believe it or not characters being "broken" "busted" or "breaking" fighting games is what created combos over the years. Not to mention you had actually learn how to PLAY the game and get better through experience. Lol. Well that's before games got "balanced" into the ground. This was pretty cool to see though. I never liked the idea of calling games/characters "busted" or "broken", but this was very well researched and presented. I'm liking this channel so far. Thanks for posting. At first I thought you were just bellyaching about "the balancing" as a substitute for lack of skill, but your explanations are very solid. Thanks again.

  • @shaunmcisaac782
    @shaunmcisaac782 Год назад +1

    SF2 - either WW Guile or ST Akuma. ST Akuma was essentially O. Ryu - already a top tier - with multiple buffs.
    WW Guile can redizzy you from standing jab for an infinite, has the best FB, and perfect AA. Also since it's WW whoever picks Guile 1st is the only one that can pick him. Oops.
    SF4 Lol Yun again
    SFV For all the talk of Season 3 Abigail, it never materialized into tournament wins at the CPT level. His moves have always had hurtboxes, they just didn't have lingering hitboxes until later seasons. They're mostly irrelevant. His moves are all -100 on block. The big changes that nerfed him were changing the Bay Area Sunrise and his CA to no longer provide follow up OKI. Reducing his 2nd command grabs range to the point where M Bison's normal throw has longer range didn't help.
    The least forgivable character is probably Luke since he's intentionally jacked up to sell people on SF6, or just to move DLC. Eff him.
    The most broken is whatever prerelease version of FANG had Capcom so afraid of the character, that they endlessly nerfed him.
    The most broken released character is probably Rashid. Rashid had a year where there were 6 Capcom Cup finalist playing him out of 32 players. Rashid mirrors for days

The very fact that we're still talking about this classic game (and its sequels), isn't it a testimonial of its success?

  • @christencrawford490

    SF2 Guile was brutal. He had the most punishment combos in the game, he could re-dizzy you at any point in time in the arcade and he had handcuffs which would tie up the opponent. You had to restart the game in order to get out. If that’s not a broken character I don’t know what it is.
    Sf3 Chun-Li was easily, the most dangerous character in the series. She could do whatever she wanted to any opponent during the game.
    SSF4 Abel was an absolute nightmare with two brain dead ultras and he was able to roll around the screen with no ease to throw you around like a rag doll. And that’s considering that Akuma and Guile were monsters in that game as well.
    SF5 had way too many overpowering characters. My honorable mentions go to season three Guile, season 5 G (master of the robbery mechanic) but the most broken character in street fighter five was season 3 to 5 Rashid. You know what character is bad when you put them in the corner and you’re afraid. Nice list though.

They were switched around when SF2 was ported to the west to avoid a possible Mike Tyson lawsuit but they remain unchanged in Japan up to this day.
      To avoid confusion, when western and asian players meet for tournaments they use community-made names for those characters: Dictator, Boxer and Claw
