My friend, i think you mean evil ryu and shin akuma, yes violent ken but you have to be precise and time his combos, evil ryu is like crouch mk or hp into medium or heavy tatsu, dp and stunned, do it again and your opponents finished lol, shin akumas flaming fireball does like 50% so thats crazy because he can kill you with one combo, these 2 characters are the most busted in that version imo
For street fighter 2 you should've have used, Guile from world warrior, he had a magical grab that he could loop infinitely, and could make the opponent stuck to him leading to a time out
Hmm... well if he wasn't including Akuma since he was a banned secret character I could see why he wouldn't include a bug. Technically this is correct though. Depending on our criteria and including everything I would have to agree.
Vega in SF2 also had this ability to get close and jump over characters quickly, and then throw them easily when their backs were turned from behind. You could often just spam that attack to win a lot of the time.
Feels weird referring to SF2 as if it's one game. Maybe it makes more sense with newer games like SF5, where everyone plays the latest version but it's not the same with SF2. SF2 is not one game and the three versions Hyper Fighting, Champion Edition and Super Turbo still get played. You got to separate them when you talk about them or you don't make sense. For example Claw is low tier in Hyper Fighting and does not have a wall dive loop...Dictator is only top tier in Champion Edition.
Sagat wasn't busted. He wasn't even top 3 in Vanilla. This sounds like a massive downplay but people really need to stop thinking Sagat was the only strong character in Vanilla. Alot of characters were stupid in Vanilla, the best being Seth, Akuma, Ryu. I'll mention the 2 major ones. Akuma had a Roundhouse loop on the whole cast that led into stun. Had amazing tools all around and did a ton of damage. This wasnt seen much outside of Japan because he had low health and needed decent neutral to play effectively. The most busted character in this game by far was Seth. All his jumping kicks crossed up, had instant dhalsim arms that made him vs zangief a 9-1 match up and terrible for others, great fireball, instant overheads, command grab that led into vortex, massively invincible DP that beat many characters. His EX Dp was 22 frames invul and led into anything after with EX Tanden, and to top it off he had midscreen unblockables that worked on the whole cast. He was in every sense of the word "Broken". Same as Akuma his only real flaw is his low health but that doesn't take away from his power and didn't change any matchups whatsoever. An HONERABLE mention could be that blankas fully charged Ultra could kill Seth doing over 600 dmg. That's it. Sagat while strong was at best just scrubby and easy to play. High health, high stun, high damage. This objectively didn't make him better than Seth or Akuma or even arguably Ryu since they all did similar damage if maximized, but this was sf4s first release and no one knew what they were doing, so naturally Sagat SEEMED stronger than everyone else. Seth and Akumas power were only really realized once super had already came out so they relatively remained overpowered while Sagat was heavily nerfed.
It was really confusing to hear "We'll only be going over characters at their strongest versions" then hear everything that got left out. Vanilla SF4 is the same to me as Vanilla SF3 or it's other versions. Cannot understand why that's left out but Vanilla Sf4 isn't Other than that, loved the video. Subbing for sure
@@bigpapasm Yeah while that may be true time has shown these games have a lot lot of depth. Same with omitting the Alpha series. I hope in the future they're not glossed over because those games really go under appreciated
Im suprised Cammy didnt get a mention in sf5, i mean shes bad af now due to all the nerfs but she was broken as way back, won 2 major tournys before they started to nerf her, her pressure game was mad and her pokes and normals were insane.
SF5 Cammy was never as strong as Super SFIV or AE 2012 Cammy... and Cammy vanilla console was also really dumb, Sako and Allioune were going to show how good she was if we never got Super.
I was with you until street fighter 5. Nash upon release was what like 5 of the top 8 at EVO or something stupid like that. Season 1 Nash won like every major tournament. Season 3 Abigail had some absurd metrics, but Nash in Season 1 was unreal.
In the arcade, I have only seen 2 occasions where a person had a perfect round, every round through the game; one on the original Street Figher 2, and one on Street Fighter 2 Championship Edition. SF2 - Ryu (I assume Ken would be the same way) - There was 1 special move that was completely broken. The hurricane kick could redizzy over and over. By doing that move over and over (as well as an initial jump light kick and a flurry of light low kicks for the initial stun), the person quite literally walked through the game w/o a single hit. I'm not sure if later revisions in the arcade fixed this or not, but this 'trick' was definitely repeatable in our local arcade (until it got replaced with CE). The redizzy technique also worked in the original SNES release as I used it to beat the game during a rental. SF2 Championship Edition - Vega - Same reasons as mentioned in the video. The player could reliably perform either a knockdown attack or a grab every time with his air move; with no chance to escape. The air move could even grab Ken and Ryu's shoryuken out of rising mid air. After the player walked through about a half a dozen other live opponents with ease, everyone gave up and watched him walk through the rest of the game w/o getting hit. Watching others in the arcade after that incident, the only char you'd ever see people playing was Vega vs Vega. It got nicknamed in our local arcade as 'Vega Fighter 2'. It was at that point that I stopped playing any of the SF games in the arcade again.
@@Sizdothyx Everything that can be done is a legit strategy. Its a question of id its so broken or not that can't be countered and if it renders the game not worth playing. In this case no because Guile curbed everyone in SF2 for free
Ryu in SF2 was midtier. Never bad, nowhere near broken. Guile could curb stomp him with a razor kick you could charge while he was being knocked down for instant react, and a sonic boom you could follow while Ryu's fireball locked him in-place wit ha faster fire rate to boot.
One thing that you missed about vanilla sagat which made him so annoying is his exchanges if he dp and you do a jump in he would still be able to roundhouse and ultra. his ultra basically went into anything he never lost an exchange
If sf4 were to be revisited, vanilla akuma and seth would be more disgusting than sagat. Beyond that, elena is the best character in the current game with too many unreactable moves due to being lazily ported and a heal
This is the first time I've heard someone say that SFV is notorious for bad balance. I was and still am under the assumption that most people consider it one of the more balanced fighting games. I guess if I'm talking ranked, there are a lot of characters I wish had less bs but I hop between different characters a lot and never left silver for any of them so maybe that's why it's harder complain too much about my opponent's characters.
Our fellow author uses what we might call an exaggeration, or more bluntly just straight up lying on the internet. Notion that SFV is "notoriously unbalanced" falls apart both theoretically and empirically. Both in ranked and offline play. Same with his opinion on season 3 Abigail, while thinking that it's the best version of a character in SFV is fine, there's no way "everyone started playing Abigail that season". Number of Abigails in season 3 didn't change, they just placed a bit bit higher than they did in season 2.
Vanilla Akuma was better than Vanilla Sagat. At the end of vanilla they were putting him above Sagat. He just required a lot of execution. His roundhouse loop was a 1 frame link, but was the most consistent against Sagat oddly enough. Vanilla Akuma was also the first vortex character in SFIV. Which was the meta basically the entire lifespan of the game. Had vanilla had gone long Gen and Akuma would have likely surpassed Sagat
6:50 something about the game without the heath bar makes it look waaaay more cinematic and just beautiful. there should be a cinematic mode in fighting games. maybe a mode that is called hardcore mode like cod.
The highlight of that era was seeing Poongko(Seth) wash Daigo(Yun) at Evo. Top tier player using a top tier to only lose like that...not taking anything away from Daigo, he still the GOAT!
Just remember sf2 has many versions and each version has a completely different tier list and balance. ST is the most played version and bison is mid to low tier in that game
Something u didnt mention about vanilla sagat, far lk used to perfectly space light tiger knee making it safe and that spaced knee would lead into another far lk into another spaced light knee, it gave him sorta crazy pressure
As much as I don’t like sf5, it sure as hell didn’t have super busted characters. Strong characters, but busted like any characters in the series, I don’t think so.
Lmfao it's INSANE how Abigail was literally hammering Urien into the ground in the corner in that last clip like a giant ape in an anime or something lol. That level of corner pressure is off the walls!!
I know this is a sleeper but i think old t hawk in super turbo is stupidly broken , with a command grab that has no whiff animation , a dp , good normals and option select setups plus i think he has a lot of health too .
@@octoman_games no thats not a good idea . A good hawk will always win throws , my best bet is to pick old ken and keep him out in neutral and do tatsu safe jumps on downs .
The Sako tick is neat but there's a lot of stuff like that in ST. Still have to get into position to use Sako tick though. He's just not on ST Akuma level where he had to be banned.
looking at these really old games makes me appreciate modern game balance so much more. I get that it was a long time ago but damn the shit from back then was so busted i couldn't find that fun
My pick is street fighter 4 Yang. He's one of the few can perform 23 hits combo and link super and ultra together at full damage. Every time I fight him is a nightmare.
Aside from what you've already mentioned. Chun Li in 3s also has the lowest profile while crouching so some combos and standing pokes don't work on her. She also has wall jump to get out of the corner and a stomping move to go with it. Jumping grab. Lightning kick thats safe on block. Ex bird kick thats 1 frame start up and almost impossible to parry or punish. 50/50 after landing a super. The difference between Chun and Yun is Yun requires a lot of skills to be good. On the other hand I would probably lose to Justin Wong with him only pressing one button
Good luck with your channel! While its not street fighter, A NEE DRAGON BALL TENKAICIHI GAME HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED AFTER ALL THESE YEARS! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
All great assessments, I'd have to swap Abigail for Luke though. There's a a frame breakdown comparison of Luke special moves versus the cast of specialists and they showed him superior across the board. His projectile is still a lot faster than Bison after he absorbs your attack (which used to be the fastest), and Luke doesn't require any interaction. His light normals are deceptively long because they make him advance towards the opponent (the only character with this). He has all the benefits with no drawbacks. He can't quite rob you as easily as G or Urien used to, but he's not far off. His V-Trigger 1 makes approaching him or jumping impossible (so yeah...not allowed to move). He has an anti-command grab V-skill, just to make sure Zangief, R Mikea, or Abigail come up empty and can be completley neutralized. Luke is an absolute monster
Nah, luke is top 1 but its not by THAT much. Speed alone doesnt make a fireball broken, his fireball is a good pressure tool sure but it can be easily jumped in on. Also his vskill 2 doesnt counter command grabs it counters regular grabs (and thats not the reason its busted). But yes, I agree luke is the best in the game, but hes the best in a currently very balanced game
Sagat didn't seem that bad for me maybe because I played Viper and back then not many people knew how to beat her. I mean Sagat dealt too much damage, but I never felt like I couldn't beat him.
Believe it or not characters being "broken" "busted" or "breaking" fighting games is what created combos over the years. Not to mention you had actually learn how to PLAY the game and get better through experience. Lol. Well that's before games got "balanced" into the ground. This was pretty cool to see though. I never liked the idea of calling games/characters "busted" or "broken", but this was very well researched and presented. I'm liking this channel so far. Thanks for posting. At first I thought you were just bellyaching about "the balancing" as a substitute for lack of skill, but your explanations are very solid. Thanks again.
SF2 - either WW Guile or ST Akuma. ST Akuma was essentially O. Ryu - already a top tier - with multiple buffs. WW Guile can redizzy you from standing jab for an infinite, has the best FB, and perfect AA. Also since it's WW whoever picks Guile 1st is the only one that can pick him. Oops. SF4 Lol Yun again SFV For all the talk of Season 3 Abigail, it never materialized into tournament wins at the CPT level. His moves have always had hurtboxes, they just didn't have lingering hitboxes until later seasons. They're mostly irrelevant. His moves are all -100 on block. The big changes that nerfed him were changing the Bay Area Sunrise and his CA to no longer provide follow up OKI. Reducing his 2nd command grabs range to the point where M Bison's normal throw has longer range didn't help. The least forgivable character is probably Luke since he's intentionally jacked up to sell people on SF6, or just to move DLC. Eff him. The most broken is whatever prerelease version of FANG had Capcom so afraid of the character, that they endlessly nerfed him. The most broken released character is probably Rashid. Rashid had a year where there were 6 Capcom Cup finalist playing him out of 32 players. Rashid mirrors for days
Cant remember what version of sf2 it was ce-ssf2 zangief had a glitch "they patched it out" but if you blocked with him he could spd you , like your across the screen he could block a fireball and spd you
Super and Super Turbo 'Old' Zangief both have Reversal Magic Throw. Simply do Running Bear Grab as a Reversal with either MK (for Super SF2), or HK (for Super Turbo O.Gief). As long as they're on the ground, they will be grabbed into the double suplex.
I watched your video with interest, as I really like SF. But honestly, I'm not sure to understand the issue. Isn't the fact of having unbalanced characters in terms of power level the very condition for an exciting gameplay experience? The very fact that we're still talking about this classic game (and its sequels), isn't it a testimonial of its success?
SF2 Guile was brutal. He had the most punishment combos in the game, he could re-dizzy you at any point in time in the arcade and he had handcuffs which would tie up the opponent. You had to restart the game in order to get out. If that’s not a broken character I don’t know what it is. Sf3 Chun-Li was easily, the most dangerous character in the series. She could do whatever she wanted to any opponent during the game. SSF4 Abel was an absolute nightmare with two brain dead ultras and he was able to roll around the screen with no ease to throw you around like a rag doll. And that’s considering that Akuma and Guile were monsters in that game as well. SF5 had way too many overpowering characters. My honorable mentions go to season three Guile, season 5 G (master of the robbery mechanic) but the most broken character in street fighter five was season 3 to 5 Rashid. You know what character is bad when you put them in the corner and you’re afraid. Nice list though.
M. Bison, Balrog and Vega have different, original names in Japan. Bison is really the evil dictator Vega, Balrog is M. Bison (as in Mike Bison) and Vega is the assassin Balrog. They were switched around when SF2 was ported to the west to avoid a possible Mike Tyson lawsuit but they remain unchanged in Japan up to this day. To avoid confusion, when western and asian players meet for tournaments they use community-made names for those characters: Dictator, Boxer and Claw
Ryu on wake up - DP, cancel into that CA. If you block you get hit if you don't block you get DP. DP got modified to not be invuln on wakeup for this reason. What's the problem lol

For street fighter 2 you should've have used, Guile from world warrior, he had a magical grab that he could loop infinitely, and could make the opponent stuck to him leading to a time out
Colloquially called “handcuffs”. Classic glitch
WW Guile was pretty broken and sat in god tier, but I raise you a CE Bison with his corner stun lock that was very easy to set up.
Hmm... well if he wasn't including Akuma since he was a banned secret character I could see why he wouldn't include a bug.
I had to drop a dislike and stop the video for this exact reason.
SF2 CE Dictator had that infinite blockstring
Great video! Just wanted it known SF4 AE Yun was an absolute menace too!
It was really confusing to hear "We'll only be going over characters at their strongest versions" then hear everything that got left out. Vanilla SF4 is the same to me as Vanilla SF3 or it's other versions. Cannot understand why that's left out but Vanilla Sf4 isn't
Other than that, loved the video. Subbing for sure
it's probably because vanilla sf3 was never popular competitively
@@bigpapasm Yeah while that may be true time has shown these games have a lot lot of depth. Same with omitting the Alpha series. I hope in the future they're not glossed over because those games really go under appreciated
I still remember Guile from 1991, he was the menace of the original 8 SF2 characters and even sported a legendary game glitch.
But…why skip the Alpha series? Lol
It's his video he can skip it, if he wants
@@the-madvillain2636 thanks?
Honestly I'm just not knowledgable enough on the series. I haven't really played it at all so I'm not sure I can give out valid info
@@UrienOld Yea, that makes sense! I hope to see you make a vid on the Alphas one day and give the series a shot!
Best series btw
Luke's visual design is HIDEOUS. PLEASE, Strawberry Blonde Jesus, fix it
I had that exact thought about Vega as a kid, great video
Im suprised Cammy didnt get a mention in sf5, i mean shes bad af now due to all the nerfs but she was broken as way back, won 2 major tournys before they started to nerf her, her pressure game was mad and her pokes and normals were insane.
And I guarantee that you are just fine with how damn busted Laura is right now and has been for the longest time..
SF5 Cammy was never as strong as Super SFIV or AE 2012 Cammy... and Cammy vanilla console was also really dumb, Sako and Allioune were going to show how good she was if we never got Super.
love that part showing how far claw's normals can hit, using widescreen stretched footage...
If you are talking about WW ryu, his tatsu is totally punishable, in fact is the worst version of that move.
@@Kamikazeray and Guile beat everyone for free
Wait: I thought the Tatsumaki spam was a legit strategy. Was it really cheese?
@@Sizdothyx Everything that can be done is a legit strategy. Its a question of id its so broken or not that can't be countered and if it renders the game not worth playing. In this case no because Guile curbed everyone in SF2 for free
Ryu in SF2 was midtier. Never bad, nowhere near broken. Guile could curb stomp him with a razor kick you could charge while he was being knocked down for instant react, and a sonic boom you could follow while Ryu's fireball locked him in-place wit ha faster fire rate to boot.
3:23 did this guy just call Twelve, eleven? 😂
Love your video, this my first time seeing your channel and it looks professional
One thing that you missed about vanilla sagat which made him so annoying is his exchanges if he dp and you do a jump in he would still be able to roundhouse and ultra. his ultra basically went into anything he never lost an exchange
Nothing says footsies like superturbo ryu pushing you back full screen on block.
If sf4 were to be revisited, vanilla akuma and seth would be more disgusting than sagat.
Beyond that, elena is the best character in the current game with too many unreactable moves due to being lazily ported and a heal
Great Video; thanks!
Nice video. Do another about Mortal Kombat
Hey man. I would keep going with the videos. You've been blessed by the algorithm.
I'm mad I haven't found this channel sooner. Dope content Fam. SF forever!
💪
Nice video man!👍
Vanilla Akuma was better than Vanilla Sagat.
Maybe, but both Akuma and especially Gen were quite execution heavy. Sagat was an easier character to use and was a monster
Thank you for the review 😊😊
When was bison ever broken in ST...? And you bring up Vega, but also not mention O. Sagat? That whole first section just confuses me
Yeah I don’t know why dictator was brought up. He went from an older version of sf2 psycho crusher, then talks about st. Wtf
6:50 something about the game without the heath bar makes it look waaaay more cinematic and just beautiful. there should be a cinematic mode in fighting games. maybe a mode that is called hardcore mode like cod.
Great video!
Who here remembers SF4:AE Yun when it was first released? Those days before he got nerfed.
The highlight of that era was seeing Poongko(Seth) wash Daigo(Yun) at Evo. Top tier player using a top tier to only lose like that...not taking anything away from Daigo, he still the GOAT!
Cool video. I think I’d pick AE Yun over Vanilla Sagat, but he was definitely the first major terror in SF4 and people never forgot.
Just remember sf2 has many versions and each version has a completely different tier list and balance. ST is the most played version and bison is mid to low tier in that game
Bro I swear you deserve more subs
Yea. I always felt like Vega was the hardest in Super Street Fighter not M.Bison.
I heard someone say that Abigail is just Hugo for racist people and now I can't unsee it
Great video
Something u didnt mention about vanilla sagat, far lk used to perfectly space light tiger knee making it safe and that spaced knee would lead into another far lk into another spaced light knee, it gave him sorta crazy pressure
Sagats standing HK in SF4 must be one of the most broken standard buttons in fighting game history. It was so damn opressive.
Duck + Sweep = Problem solved.
my man called twelve, eleven. Played yoo much SFV
LMAO stupid mistake
As much as I don’t like sf5, it sure as hell didn’t have super busted characters. Strong characters, but busted like any characters in the series, I don’t think so.
No mention of Sagat or Akuma for SF2!?
I still find it crazy that ltg said for all of sfv lifespan that Urien wasn't top tier
LTG is a garbage player. He'd lose with SFIV vanilla Sagat.
Lmfao it's INSANE how Abigail was literally hammering Urien into the ground in the corner in that last clip like a giant ape in an anime or something lol. That level of corner pressure is off the walls!!
What's Vanilla Sagat? Like standard version before the super and ultra SFIV?
yeah
I know this is a sleeper but i think old t hawk in super turbo is stupidly broken , with a command grab that has no whiff animation , a dp , good normals and option select setups plus i think he has a lot of health too .
THAwk is a cheap pain in the ass in Super Turbo. I learned tho to just throw him.
@@shaunmcisaac782 yeah , damdai proved that both were broken af .
I think boss characters ought to be excluded.
looking at these really old games makes me appreciate modern game balance so much more. I get that it was a long time ago but damn the shit from back then was so busted i couldn't find that fun
Not a big sf fan but I have played most of the games and I can surely agree with this list. Also you really know your sf as well.
Video Viewer and Maker blessed by the Algorithm, great stuff
My pick is street fighter 4 Yang. He's one of the few can perform 23 hits combo and link super and ultra together at full damage. Every time I fight him is a nightmare.
Sf5 Akuma air fireballs were legit pulled from the time when Akuma was a secret unplayable boss. I think it was in Sf2.
3:22
There is no Eleven in 3rd Strike. 😕
Also, as a Remy player, I love fighting against Chun.
I remember I caught somebody with the claw super no one knew what it was
I don't play this game, but man this was such a good video
Sagat being leagues above everyone else just feels so in character XD
Abigail's super can grab you from your next door neighbor's flatscreen TV.
Oops.
SF4 Lol Yun again
SFV For all the talk of Season 3 Abigail, it never materialized into tournament wins at the CPT level.
Curious on your take on Tekken and mk game's
Cant remember what version of sf2 it was ce-ssf2 zangief had a glitch "they patched it out" but if you blocked with him he could spd you , like your across the screen he could block a fireball and spd you
that sounds insane wow

Super and Super Turbo 'Old' Zangief both have Reversal Magic Throw. Simply do Running Bear Grab as a Reversal with either MK (for Super SF2), or HK (for Super Turbo O.Gief). As long as they're on the ground, they will be grabbed into the double suplex.
Tokido's vortex setup for Akuma made him nearly unstoppable in SF4 until Ultra patch came out
I watched your video with interest, as I really like SF.
After I beat Turbo with all characters at max speed back in the 90's I knew I could'nt do better and gave up on fighting games.
I'm getting old, but I don't remember SF2 having Cammy, Vega, Akuma, etc. as selectable characters. That has got to be a later version. 1:03
I was expecting some Ibuki, Sean or Akuma but u decided to not talk about the first two SF3... and some other games
I haven't played new generation or second impact enough frankly, that's why I didn't include them
@@UrienOld Fair enough
@@UrienOld Sadly, no street fighter 1.
Completly forgot Abigail , god what an op character .
I've never heard anybody refer to Vega as "Claw". Not even when the game first came out.
The real Sagat is still monster fast and fit at 65 :) what a legend
Seaon 1 Ryu was fucked especially with that CA that broke through your guard
Ryu on wake up - DP, cancel into that CA. If you block you get hit if you don't block you get DP. DP got modified to not be invuln on wakeup for this reason. What's the problem lol
"PICK AKUMA! PICK A TOP TEIR!!" - Sanford Kelly.
dinkledink is crazy!!😂😂
That Abigail guy is animated terribly too. Straight up looks like Clay Fighter.
SF2 Akuma and SF3 Gill are still some of the most OP characters in not only Street Fighter, but all fighting games until this day.
I love this content but it sounds like you're too close to the mic when recording.
Not only does Psycho Crusher do a lot of chip, it actually does more chip damage on block than damage when it hits lmao.
