I don't see that saving money, it costs 5.5 Cents per $1 Coin vs 4.9 Cents for the $1 Bill. In order for that to happen, we would need to reduce the size and weight of the $1 Coin, not to mention ensuring that each vending machine is updated to accept the new coin model. I do see a benefit in the $2 Bill being printed more often, as more things cost up to and around $2 for minor purchases. It also costs the same amount as a $1 Bill to print.

It does cost 0.32 cents to make a dollar coin but over time the coin makes money thanks to "seniorage" the longer time the coin is our being used the government makes money. 1 dollar coin weighs less than 4 quarters.
I do see the Dollar Coin lasting longer, considering it's not made of paper. The other worry is how mass production of coins will weigh on resources, it may be easy to produce now, but 10 years, 20 years, down the line we could see an increase price to produce these coins, which inevitably renders them costing the U.S. more to produce.
