This was the best demonstration I've seen on spooling a spinning reel. The fluorescent cord demonstration of tying a knot was extremely helpful. As a beginner I really appreciate this video.
i like alberto knots for mono to braid, braid to fluro. monos only for the braid to dig into. Covering the spool is plenty I've learned throughout the years.
LFG is killing it with the informational videos. I’ve been teaching my buddy to bass fish here in north Georgia and I made him come watch all of the googan lab videos so far. Keep it coming!!!
I have an electric line spooler that allows me to remove the spool and put the line on it with no twist at all. One thing that I have learned, especially on my small diameter spools, is when you cast...say 100', you can have up to 250-300 twists between the spool and the end of the line. When you lift the lure out of the water between casts, several twists come out. After a hand-full of casts that first 100' off the reel ends up twisted back onto the reel...especially after your first line break.
Just pull your line out till the backlash comes out lmao then hold the line and reel it back in slowly and if there’s knots just pull them out pulling out a backlash is simple
That last tip about running your line out and then reeling it in with some tension was really cool that’s definitely something i’m gonna have to try!!!
This was a big help! Thank you!! Suggestion. Show the knot at around the 3 min mark from different angles as I had to watch it a few times to get it. I see other people had difficulty too.
Commented before I watched the last part. Great idea about laying out the line with a swivel. Should have figured it out. I usually lay line out on water while paddling away in my kayak. I feel this will save a bunch of time on the water. Thanks.
Good information just want to add a side note If you stop reeling when filling up your spool and the line twisted turn the spool over this should take the twist out
New subscriber. Love the way you use paracord for the knots. Even though I've been doing this for decades, it's nice to slow it down for older eyes. Good job mate!
Took a couple or tries to get the proper hand placement, but I got there and tied the not successfully. Only messed up about 1foot of cable so that's a plus
I use 10lb braid & you will wind knots. I try to cast easy but sometimes you just get wind knots & good luck getting it out with 10lb braid, 20lb is ok. But I can cast further using 10lb. Love the double Uni Knot for connecting braid to mono or flourocarbon. Caught many bullreds here on the SE TX Coast without breaking a 10lb braid to 20lb flouro leader.
All line in the plastic spool floats. Take your sink and fill it halfway with water, toss it in, works perfectly. If you're at the lake and got a net toss it in the net so it doesn't float away, it will do that.....
I'm a total novice, looking to do this for the first time. If we're never likely to see the mono or whatever it was he tied to the spool, what's the point of doing it at all? Why not just have the braid all the way to the spool?
If it’s best to spool on braid off the end of the spool in a counter clockwise direction, why does Power Pro put a pair of notches on the edges of their spools which hang up on the braid, making spooling off the end almost impossible?
Thanks to the Googan Lab for some fire tips that I never knew before and will come in handy for me in the future. Keep up the great content you guys. Googan Squad is gon finesse the fishing scene
This was soooo helpful, extremely informative. I was sruggling so much with this i didnt even know where to start, this helped me get my rod spooled up and ready for my next day of fishing. Although i did struggle with the knots especially the uni-uni splice knot.
Have only fished spinning reel fairly new angler though and have been doing it wrong the whole time thanks LFG and Googan Lab next go over casting reels they scare me lol
Casting reels excel in some areas that's for sure, but if you're bank fishing, a spinning reel can do it all. Master it first, casting overhead, casting from each side, and learning to make small accurate pitches. I found fishing towards the shore that I see a bigger benefit of using a baitcaster, as it helps me pin point my casts near targets better. Specifically the casting towards the bank or a dock. -IA
That's exactly how I just finished spooling my new Shimano reel, minus the electrical tape. I used to use it but I haven't had any issues without it so far. Nothing like getting a lesson from America's dad tho
Does braid with lower diameter make it where the line will snap more easier when casting I saw another video saying it will but I am not sure and is braid good for freshwater or no?
Some people use the mono as a base layer (filler) to give the braid something to “bite” down into to prevent the braid from spinning on the reel. Plus, good braid can be expensive, and depending on your spool diameter having that cheaper mono as your base will help save you some money in the long run. I can’t think of any cons per say, just make sure you’re using a good ratio of braid to leader line diameter. I generally stick to a 2:1 ration… So, if I’m wanting to use a 12lbs leader, I typical pair that with a 25-30lbs braid main. Hope that helps!
some where in the process of attaching the line to the reel you miss the day they taight this. You dont need the mono if you just put the electrical tape on the spool. you dont need electrical tape if the reel is braid ready, there is a rubber band built into the spool.
Would it really be the end of the world if you didnt use any backing?? I feel like if its just about saving line than i wouldnt bother i personally enjoy buying line lol
If you tie braid straight to the reel, it will slip because there is no stretch in braid. Mono stretches and kind of binds to the spool much better. On the business side of things, mono is very cheap and fills a portion of the reel that will never be seen, or you hope it won't haha. -IA
So is this just Justin’s other channel? I mean he’s the smartest off the bunch and definitely the first Googan I’d go to for advice, but damn. Jon should show us how read a fish finder and how to break down maps of big lakes. I feel like Peric knows a lot about how weather conditions play into the bite and how to adapt to it. Flair can’t fish. Rob needs to start a Googan firearms channel. LoJo, 1rod and everyone else just keep doing you’re thing. Also why isn’t Nick from 618 in the squad??????!!!!!!!
WOW!!! What a great F@ing video man. Love your products as well Actually purchased a new BIG Tackle box due to some of your new products. Chao and tight lines boyys
Only spinning reel question I have.. Why whenever I see someone using a spinning reel on youtube videos is their drag so loose. Ive used spinning reels all my life as my primary reel. I just started using bait casters last year. Ive never had my drag set so loose that it clinks as I set the hook.
It all depends on how big the hooks you're using are, strong the line is, and to avoid horsing around a fish. I use a Ned Rig quite often and if the drag is too tight, I'll bend my hooks out. Just takes a little bit of time to tire out the fish but keeps my gear nice and lands more fish. -IA
So glad y’all decided to start this channel. LFG is killing it!!!

Dude, just visited the Googan HQ. and it made my year thank you
Its literally on my bucket list to visit the HG!!!
LOVING the Googan Lab videos! Keep them coming!
Yo I love how you guys are taking it slow and covering all the basics before heading to more difficult topics. Excited for those!! Well done googan!!
I haven’t missed any of the new series very good information thanks LFG
Same I’m afraid to miss a single one and miss a critical info that could help me land my pb bass
i like alberto knots for mono to braid, braid to fluro. monos only for the braid to dig into. Covering the spool is plenty I've learned throughout the years.

Time for ANOTHER GOOGAN LAB Heater!
Professor Rackley class is now in session Boy's and Girls! Great job on this Channel LFG.
Can we get a tips video on how to pull out a backlash?
Just pull your line out till the backlash comes out lmao then hold the line and reel it back in slowly and if there’s knots just pull them out pulling out a backlash is simple
Are you still backlashing?
I use a lot of the time using a spinning rod. This video helps so much. Keep the videos coming!
That last tip about running your line out and then reeling it in with some tension was really cool that’s definitely something i’m gonna have to try!!!
They picked the right guy to do these types of videos keep up the good work justin
need one of this vids for baitcasters
This was a big help! Thank you!! Suggestion. Show the knot at around the 3 min mark from different angles as I had to watch it a few times to get it. I see other people had difficulty too.
Impressive boss.... I ordered a fishing rod , and i might use it for first time. Let's see .....
Great job. I’ve done it three or four times and it works great.
Thank you, LFG! These are much needed.
Thank you so much, I was literally struggling with this yesterday.
I would love to see a video about using graphs and picking the right graph to start with!!!
Clear, concise and to the point. Perfect. Subbed!
Commented before I watched the last part. Great idea about laying out the line with a swivel. Should have figured it out. I usually lay line out on water while paddling away in my kayak. I feel this will save a bunch of time on the water. Thanks.
Glad y'all made this "how to" channel. It makes me sound like I know what I'm talking about now😂😂😂
Good information just want to add a side note If you stop reeling when filling up your spool and the line twisted turn the spool over this should take the twist out
This video answered the question I ask on the double uni knot video 😂
Well done. Fantastic channel.

Great vid!👍👍You should do a vid on what rod to choose.
Can you doo a video on how to use baitcasters and what the different components of the caster does?
I use 10lb braid & you will wind knots.
I try to cast easy but sometimes you just get wind knots & good luck getting it out with 10lb braid, 20lb is ok. But I can cast further using 10lb.

Learning so much from the googan lab
Let’s go new viddd GOOGAN LAB is fireee
Thank you for including how to tie the knots
Could you guys make a vid on how to spool a baitcaster? Just spooled all my spinning combos with this vid
You guys really are the best. Great info and awesome delivery.
Very helpful to know for first time using an open face reel.
Loved the uni knot video
LFG I didn't know the last part thanks for sharing
I love these vids even if I already know it, it good to get some refreshers and some tips!!
Great video. Thank you. This was very helpful

so useful, thanks googans!
Absolutely loving these quick tip videos!!!
Do one on which line to use when
And how to use a bait caster. I just ordered one
These videos are awesome!!! So much great info
curious... Flair fish anymore. I use hockey tape. the last two tips were lightbulb moments...
Can you go over spooling a spinning reel with a spooling tool? I use one that rotates the same direction as the spool to prevent line twist.
Taking care of your customers. That should be your number one concerern
Awesome! Learned some things I never knew
Can't wait to see Norm and T.J. on the squad!!!
And Westin😎🤙
@Levi Greene you don’t like them?

Great info as always! Thank you
Cant wait to see some technique based tutorials!
I heard braid doen't twist? I've seen different methods. Some people go striaght on with a pencil in the spool?
This video helped a lot, thanks!
This was soooo helpful, extremely informative. I was sruggling so much with this i didnt even know where to start, this helped me get my rod spooled up and ready for my next day of fishing. Although i did struggle with the knots especially the uni-uni splice knot.
thanks for the lesson!
Can you do how to rig a soft plastic please it would be very helpful
Good job guys
Nice choice of blade there brother

Looking forward to what’s next
What line would you recommend for high altitude, Southern MT lake trout?
That's exactly how I just finished spooling my new Shimano reel, minus the electrical tape. I used to use it but I haven't had any issues without it so far.
Nothing like getting a lesson from America's dad tho
Wish I would have seen this a week ago when I bought my first spinning reel
What size spinning reel was used in this video?
How far are you casting that you need that much security? Or is it that your lures are so expensive that it would break the bank?
Does braid with lower diameter make it where the line will snap more easier when casting I saw another video saying it will but I am not sure and is braid good for freshwater or no?
Great video
Anyone know what model that spyderco knife is? They look cool and I kinda want to get one
When I was young, I used to forget to open the bail everytime lol.
Is that the paramilitary 2 knife? Need me one of them
New to fishing here. Any reason you use mono before the braid? Any cons to just having braid all the way until you have your mono / fluoro leader?

Which way was the line coming off the spool?
You guys rock great video
Let’s see if I’ve been doing it wrong this whole time
How the heck does your braid spool sit flat on the table so nicely?
Nice vid
Can you do a video on the fg knot
I don't like using braid. The wind always cause issues.
KILLIN IT!!!
Love the vids

What was the reel you used in this video?
Would it really be the end of the world if you didnt use any backing?? I feel like if its just about saving line than i wouldnt bother i personally enjoy buying line lol
What is the purpose of the mono base? I have never used a base and never had any issues with my lines. Just curious.
If you tie braid straight to the reel, it will slip because there is no stretch in braid. Mono stretches and kind of binds to the spool much better.
On the business side of things, mono is very cheap and fills a portion of the reel that will never be seen, or you hope it won't haha.

Also the braid tends to be very tight and cause damage to the spool, mono base gives a better cushion for it.
Great info
Can you tie braid directly to the reel or do you have to start with mono?
I was wondering the same thing
I needed to know this
So is this just Justin’s other channel? I mean he’s the smartest off the bunch and definitely the first Googan I’d go to for advice, but damn. WOW!!! What a great F@ing video man. Love your products as well Actually purchased a new BIG Tackle box due to some of your new products. Chao and tight lines boyys
I give up on fishing I don't even have the patience to tie a knot lol
So if a spinning reel spins clockwise, you want the line coming off the full spool to go clockwise as well?
Counter clockwise off the spool
Only spinning reel question I have.. Why whenever I see someone using a spinning reel on youtube videos is their drag so loose. Ive used spinning reels all my life as my primary reel. I just started using bait casters last year. Ive never had my drag set so loose that it clinks as I set the hook.

2:45 where u wanna go lol
You sound like Corey Taylor. Makes sense why you start your reel with a Slipknot.
Joking aside, good video 👍
