What a cool store! It is like a mini-grocery store, bigger than a convenience store, but smaller than a supermarket. The size and scope reminds me of the grocery stores that used to exist in small towns and rural areas in the US (most of these have now closed.) The tidiness of the store was incredible, everything properly faced and nothing out of place.

This Magnolia store looks like a dream. Even the best stores in London such as M&S food would not be able to compete with such variety and quality. Every shelf looks well stocked and well presented. And there is that cosy feel of a convenience store with a range of products only found super-stores. In UK you can only get paper straws now which are so disguising that they fall apart before you can finish your drink and you end up using multiple quantities just for one drink, inevitably causing more harm than good. Classic UK hypocrisy. Waste more in the name of "green agenda".

Very cool Store, I have been to moscow very often and my first thing i do there is run to the super market to buy my breakfast and snacks for my stay. I really love to eat out off a super market than going to restaurants for breakfast. I have never come across this store and i often observe that every supermarket is different from other since some are very small and have very few stuff in Moscow. Really enjoyed this video -- your new camera equipment was a great investment! To me, this well-stocked but human-scale grocery store is similar in size & assortment to the Migros and Coop supermarkets which are found all across Switzerland. There is more than enough variety, and the produce appears fresh. It doesn't overwhelm the customer by offering too many choices like a larger-scale American supermarket or European hypermarket. Sometimes less is more (at least I find I prefer supermarket shopping at Coop or Migros in Switzerland rather than the massive American supermarkets near to me on the East Coast US)

They all loved the food, both the variety and the quality. It is sad that Americans continue to perpetuate outdated stereotypes about Russian consumers, especially that somehow the food is unappetizing in RF. I would bet that almost any bread in Russia is superior to almost all bread in the US since most US bread is mass-produced with a lot of preservatives and dough conditioners.

I live in a city of almost 400,000 people, which has always been very "forward-looking" when it comes to retail store trading hours - & even around 30 -35 years ago, regular retail stores were open for trading all day Saturday & Sunday, & supermarkets were often open till around 11pm in the evenings. These extended trading hours in our city were even way ahead of some much larger cities of 2 - 3 million people, where the stores at that time were still not open on Saturday afternoons or Sundays & there were no supermarkets open for late night trading.
Unfortunately, during the recent restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic, some of the supermarkets which were previously open until 11pm at night, started closing earlier, at around 9pm or 10pm - & even though the COVID-19 restrictions are no longer in force, the supermarkets have not extended their opening hours to what they were before the pandemic. So most supermarkets in my city are now closed by 10pm in the evenings. But I've not come across any supermarkets in my city that are open 24/7.
I often pop into the main supermarket in the CBD of my city, on the way home from work, to purchase a few items - so by the time I get there, it's often around 7pm or a bit later. But the problem I usually find, with shopping at that time of the evening, is that a lot of the shelves are half empty by then & because of that the choices are sometimes limited & the items that I want are just not on the shelves &/or out of stock.
So it always surprises me when I see supermarkets in Russia open 24/7, with such fully stocked shelves & scarcely an empty shelf in sight (like the supermarket in the above video). Of course I realise it was mentioned that the above video was filmed around 9am in the morning, which might explain why all the shelves are still so full. So I'm wondering if there could be a particular time of day that one might go to that supermarket, & find it has some empty/un-stocked shelves - just like the supermarket I go to in my home city.
My city was also the first one in our country to completely ban the use/sale of light-weight single-use plastic shopping bags - like the ones that groceries used to be packed in at the supermarket check-outs. My city banned their use almost 10 years ago now - & we've managed just fine without them ever since then.
As of more recently though, stores no longer sell plastic disposable cutlery (knives/forks/spoons etc) & crockery (plates & bowls etc). Instead, disposable cutlery & crockery now comes made out of recyclable materials such as paper/cardboard.

At night, the sections with some baked goods for snacking and food that is produced in the supermarket may be almost empty. Stores try to plan the volume of these goods so that they are completely gone by 22:00 + they make large additional discounts after 21:00 or 22:00.
Still chilled fish is always removed from the ice shelves overnight (an employee in this department does not work at night).

@@_charon6448 In some other cities within my country - & a number of years ago too - I know that some supermarkets used to heavily discount their fresh bread & bakery products towards the end of the day, If you went there towards closing time you could buy bread at really cheap prices - especially if you bought say - 4 or 5 loaves of bread together I guess they were trying to sell all their bakery products before the store closed for the day But now that supermarkets are open much longer hours - it's been very long time since I've seen such heavily discounted bread. But the shelves certainly do look quite empty of many bakery products, if one goes there just before closing time. These days I understand that whatever bakery products the supermarkets have left over at the end of the day - they are often donated to charitable organisations that run food banks & free meal kitchens around the city..

I lost track of how many times you said just how “nice and organized” it is. Also just enthusiastically beside yourself when you see things like tuna cans pointing in one direction. As well as being overwhelmed by pasta sauces 😆
I'm beginning to think you might be part owner or maybe have shares in this enterprise.🤔
    Interesting video and positive vibes!
I'm curious about something.. I've heard people say things like stores and merchandise are like night and day differences if comparing large cities like Moscow and St Petersburg small town working class towns.
It would be interesting to see this.
Not just outskirts of Moscow.. Areas many km’s away from those big cities.
Anyway, thanks for the interesting content! Looking forward to what's to come

Oh wow, RUclips knows something, watched a train station review and after that this video get recommended, this store is literally 5 minutes walk from my apartment. From someone who has been using this store for years, it is super convenient to have such variety of stuff available 24/7 and on your commute route, but on other, stuff there is overpriced for 10-30% compared to other chains or even deliveries. Привет кантиме!

Hey, Russell, has it occurred to you that most soft drinks in any grocery store are not refrigerated because the customers place them in their fridge at home? Those that are store-cooled are there for immediate consumption. Has it also occurred to you that most customers in the West like their soft drinks cool regardless of the season? Use your noggin, man.

It has occurred to me on many occasions. Most people don't like cold drinks because most of the year its not warm enough outside.

@@TravellingwithRussell When you say"most people", you're probably thinking of Russia. In the West, a room-temp SOFT drink is an abomination regardless of the season or the weather. When it's cold here, I'd rather get a hot coffee to take with me in the car, but when people go to fast food or other restaurants, it's a cold Coke/Pepsi/etc. with plenty of ice to boot - unless, of course, you order some wine.

Baring the butcher's counter and produce section, it's better stocked than any supermarket in South Korea including the poshest areas in Seoul. Prices for most items in Russia including imports are more affordable.

And think about it this way, these is really an everyday supermarket. I wanted to check this place out as it only just opened as a new location. Within walking distance there were 3 other markets like this from other chain store brands.

@Travelling With Russell are there E numbers in Russian foods like ice cream? What are the ingredients? Are they all natural? What is your favourite coffee from the supermarket. Magnolia is a beautiful store.
