Oh, Russell... you make me SO happy. We left the USSR - Birobidzhan - when I was young, so I had no say in the matter... My heart remains in Russia (and I'm not even Russian). I had to laugh when you asked if anyone has tried Kvass. I make my own every month, and have a batch brewing right now! It's becoming very popular here in the US - some Yankee-Yankees I know shocked me when they said they've started making their own. As for horsemeat... yes... my father's family is in Italia and the Italian part of Croatia (Istria), and they eat horsemeat there. To be honest, I'm not big on it, but I like it better than Venison or Reindeer. You make me so happy with this, Russell! I just put up many jars of ginger sliced into honey as "tonik" (about half the batch also has Meyer lemons in it)... this is the time of year to make and start taking it. Okay, need to go finish making dinner - tonight is Manti and Khinkali, Salat Olivier, and Cucumber/Tomatoe salad. A bi gezint, Russell!

This was an office on a mayor who destroyed all real farmer markets in Moscow to please his developer friend. Just three years ago, every neighborhood had a real farmers' market where you could buy high quality products directly from farmers at a good price. Now in Moscow you can only buy overpriced plastic shit from large retailers like x5 retail. It's funny that x5 organized this event, haha. Of course, you can go out of the city for shopping, but it will take the whole day, not less.

What nice is, that everything here is very positive: Russell, as always, beautiful women and friendly men behind the counters, and of course a variety of delicious farm products.
I'm glad to hear that kvass is alive and well in Russia, on a Coca-Cola documentary that I watched, Russian people were complaining that kvass was dying because young people preferred coca-cola.
The problem with kvas is it's slightly alcoholic, about 1,2%, but it can be as strong as some beers. And the best shit used to be sold out of bowser trailers, which are pretty much gone these days, and most types of kvas that you can buy in a shop are not as good (less sweet, more tangy tasting), so i, for example, am rarely in a mood for it.
Most of the branded kvass tastes like fizzy drinks they might be adding some chemicals , this could be a good business opportunity for craft kvass brands similar to craft beer :)
Many years ago I made kvass myself. You need dried rye bread crusts, a little sugar, ferment that was sold in stores, honey, raisins. You can experiment with additives.
Hello Russell! I know only one kind of kvas, made from rye bread, first time I can see so different kvas, very interesting. I was so excited to hear “North Ossetia” it’s where I was born. Very beautiful place, Russell you have to go there one day, you won’t be disappointed. Thank you 👍
Beautiful video Russ from my favourite Aussie. Was Cheesemonger the word you wanted. I love ❤ Valery's hat. The white and green booths were stunning. The best looking farmers market I've ever seen! I'll pass on horse meat😢
Love their decor (how they decorate the booths) in Moscow. Very pretty! We have much smaller pop-up farmers markets in many towns weekly in America. Usually on the weekends local farmers bring their goods to a small street market. But I have never seen a professional set up to showcase small businesses like that. In America its very hard for small businesses to complete with the big ones. People just go to mega stores.
"I hope you're finding this interesting and as Interesting as I am"... Yes, you are very interesting. Actually I really love the looks of that place. I wish had similar in Ottawa. We have a market but no way as nice as that place.
Thanks for this video. If you brought up the Farmer Markets' topic could you do filming at either Danilovsky and Usachevsky market? It would be quite interesting as well on my take.🙂
I love seeing all your videos. But I love this one especially. In America we love farmers markets. Sometimes things are cheaper. You know wether pesticides were used etc. In America we have lots of undisclosed ingredients in larger retails. A butcher can sometimes be cheaper with package deals especially for large families. You can get package deals like breakfast sausage, bacon, burgers, ground beef or one with chicken legs, hamburgers, sausage links, steaks. Sometimes its cheaper that way with the amount and price. Sometimes we just like giving back to the community and buying locally with our money. I love farmers and outdoor markets.
@@Wild-Siberia that's sad. Things take a toll on small businesses owners. That's another reason we support locally. It matters to a lot of us to support families and their businesses vs. Big corporations that their headquarters are located not in our communities.
@angelicdemon1333, he is deceiving you and it is unclear why. There are a lot of farmers' markets in Moscow, one in each district - that's for sure, and no one cleans them, the policy of the authorities is just different - to develop this trade.
To begin, that square is really pretty and the apple display was very artful. No idea what the group was singing but it was kind of catchy. In Canada a cheese maker is a cheesemaker. I love going to farmers markets for variety and some very fresh foods. p.s. looks like the amount of traffic in Moscow is about the same as it is here.

I wish the same!!!! I wish all the best to fellow Europeans, Americans, Ukrainians! We should all get along. I want more people to come here and enjoy the greatness of this place. Thank you for being kind❤
> Yarmarkas... small markets Interestingly, the word came from German Jahrmarkt ('Yearly Market') and eventually shifted its connotation to any *regular* (yearly, seasonally, monthly, weekly etc) market event, whether big or small.
Kvas must be handmade at home. The bottled one in supermarkets is not natural, contains at of chemicals and sugar. It is the same as harmful as coca-cola or other sweet drinks.
I don't know how it is now, but 4 years ago a huge number of different types of kvas were sold in Russian grocery stores and supermarkets in the U.S. ...

Moscow changes every year. My mother lives in the Pechatniki district, I visit her occasionally, but at least once in six months. And every time I come and I don't recognize the native places where I grew up. It's amazing. Not everyone likes rain, especially when it's autumn and a little cool, so it's better to stay at home in the warmth 😅 And of course, in the middle of the week, many people are at work.🙂
It’s a pity that Russell did not pay enough attention to the monument to the founder of Moscow, Prince Yuri Dolgoruky, who first mentioned Moscow in a letter of 1147, which is generally considered to be the year of Moscow’s founding, although human settlement had been here before. The building opposite, which is the residence of the Mayor of Moscow, has always served as the residence of the head of the city since its construction in 1782.
Lol, if Russell had to identify all the historical stuff in his videos whilst walking around Moscow, his movies would be 4 hours long. Moscow is a brilliant walking city for History, definitely in my top 4 favs with Istanbul, Rome and Prague for ease of movement.
@@iskanderm3040 That's for sure! Especially since he knows where the mayor of Moscow's residence is.... Why wouldn't he know what's right across the street...
Well, if that's the case, you simply forgot to mention what happened at that very site BEFORE that current statue went up.. now that would be interesting for subscribers! General Mikhail Skobelev (The white General) was the first statue there back in 1912, then a monument to the Soviet Constitution replaced him after only 6 years, to which they added a 'Statue of Liberty' in 1919, which was later destroyed in 1941, although part of it is in the Tretyakov still I'm told. Great market, I walked right past there yesterday and did not realise the market was taking place!
Right, some of them aren't very well advertised.
I love a good farmer's market! Thanks for sharing this one with us!
Me too. Especially when there not as busy like this was on the day I was there.
Good housewives in Russia know many recipes for making kvass at home :)
@@zloychechen5150 Plenty of those bowser trailers with kvass in the south of Russia btw

Wonderful for the eyes and certainly for the taste 😍😋 Nice people too 🥰
Thank you 😋

Hello Russell! I know only one kind of kvas, made from rye bread, first time I can see so different kvas, very interesting. I was so excited to hear “North Ossetia” it’s where I was born. Very beautiful place, Russell you have to go there one day, you won’t be disappointed. Thank you 👍

Wow, thank you!
Would ❤️ to move to Moscow ❤️🇬🇧

5:34 kvas is not a Soviet drink, it originated waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay before the Soviet Union. As far as i know it dates back at least to 10th century

Great video. I really enjoyed it! More variety please. You are doing a great job!
Very upmarket farmers market. As you say surprisingly not many people but of course a work day for most. Food looked impressive.
It’s good that Russel went there in working day. He would have no chance to shoot anything there in the weekend.
It would be quite interesting as well on my take.🙂
Great suggestion!

I LOVE OUTDOOR MARKETPLACES , THE FOOD IS DIFFERENT AND DELICIOUS 🛍️
This types of things are needed for us, not everywhere a concrete building will work
@@Wild-Siberia that's sad.
Hola Russell interesante video Buen trabajo saludos 🖖 👍
Your more than welcome. Thanks.
Delicious food ❤
To begin, that square is really pretty and the apple display was very artful. No idea what the group was singing but it was kind of catchy. In Canada a cheese maker is a cheesemaker. I love going to farmers markets for variety and some very fresh foods. p.s. looks like the amount of traffic in Moscow is about the same as it is here.
thanks Russell the place is so scenic and clean . loving the content.
Glad you enjoyed it. It's really nice part of Moscow right there where this event as being held.

I enjoy your videos so much!
Glad you like them!
Nice market! And very nice ending! (the night colors of the area were very beautiful)
I really need to make a walk through the center of Moscow with the evening lights.

I wished Russia and Western nations got along. Russia looks fascinating. Prices are cheap. Land beautiful. If we all could just get along now.

Interestingly, the word came from German Jahrmarkt ('Yearly Market') and eventually shifted its connotation to any *regular* (yearly, seasonally, monthly, weekly etc) market event, whether big or small.
Imagine Germans pondering over "Ярмарка выходного дня" (Yearly Market of a Weekend). 🤔
You do a great job Russell.
Thanks!
Great video! That carousel is the most ornate and beautiful I've ever seen. Very interesting market.
I hope one day KVAS becomes popular in America! Thank you for the great video ! Stay safe!
I am sure if you can find a European stores where you live, they might have a Russian section.
Kvas must be handmade at home. The bottled one in supermarkets is not natural, contains at of chemicals and sugar. It is the same as harmful as coca-cola or other sweet drinks.
I don't know how it is now, but 4 years ago a huge number of different types of kvas were sold in Russian grocery stores and supermarkets in the U.S. ...
I know that in some parts of America they sell russian kvas. Check in armenian and russian stores. Ochakovskiy kvas is great.

A very different Moscow from when I was there in 2007.
Moscow changes every year. My mother lives in the Pechatniki district, I visit her occasionally, but at least once in six months. And every time I come and I don't recognize the native places where I grew up. It's amazing. Nothing has changed for years, but in the last, about 20 years, the city has been rapidly changing for the better

Not everyone likes rain, especially when it's autumn and a little cool, so it's better to stay at home in the warmth 😅
And of course, in the middle of the week, many people are at work.🙂
Kvas is great. I got it from a big tank on a street in Kiev in the 90:s.

That's for sure!
