    For my bedding I have a half king silk duvet and half king down duvet, both in their own duvet cover. Between them is a sheet sleeve. When I am in cold weather the down is on the top, and when I am in warmer climate I flip it so the silk is on the top, in hot both the quilts are the base. Works great. The duvets, folded in third lengthwise rolled up fit well in Humble Road’s over the cab shelf. Also for the ledge under the bathroom window I couldn’t find a thin 2.5” container like yours but discovered a cereal box was the perfect fit. I cut it to the height I wanted, trimmed the edge with masking tape and spray painted it to match the wall. I did the same for the ledge above the toilet albeit using a different size box. Now nothing falls through and it is so tidy looking! I use a clothes hanger hooked into that back ledge container as my towel hanger. No banging due to the towel and handy for when I need to dry some delicates. I love your ideas and have saved loads of space with the plush microfibre for my towels & face clothes. I have the 2019 PW Ascent on the 2018 Chassis so same space limitations as you do. I love the convenience of parking and getting around. I don’t have to pay extra for the ferries either which is handy living on a gulf island in BC.

    Have been following your channel since just before we bought a PW Tofino a year ago. Thanks for all your ideas! I made Warm Window coverings, thanks! I used rectangular magnets, and used small mending plates, almost exactly the same size as the magnets, found at Lowe’s, on the plastic wall/window housing where there was not already metal. I started out screwing them into the plastic, but later found that the double sided adhesive strips supplied with the magnets work very well to anchor the mending plates, and they do not pull off in spite of the strong magnets in the window shades. This strikes me as an elegant solution for your cushions. Much better than a hinge.

    • @FromShetoMe
      @FromShetoMe  4 года назад

      Yes, the hinge piece was just to see if it worked. I have since ordered filler plates that can be screwed in.

    A few good things have come out of quarantine and the number one is you are reorganizing and modifying your van. So happy we get to benefit. I think the twin sheet idea on the beds is going to be the solution to the bedding dilemma. Can't wait to try it on our next trip.

      Several folks have mentioned crib sheets. May have to give that a try. Only problem I see is they are usually not deep enough.

    Love ur mods. I had a very similar fridge (I have an LTV B+) and 3 way never cooled on propane. Finally disconnected it myself (solo female), so I know u can do it). I did pay someone $20 to disconnect gas line because I wasn’t able with nerve weakness). After I disconnected and plugged off gas line, my son lifted it down steps of RV. I got a marine drawer compressor fridge that was smaller to fit in same space as old 3 way. I just had to buy like an inch wide piece (back where furniture legs are sold at Lowe’s) and screwed to each side of opening and one at top, and color matched my cabinetry. I then put a shelf above new fridge, so I have much more storage space. It is hands down best decision/mod. Once u get rid of that crappy fridge, u can enjoy travels with confidence in ur new fridge. The compressor never ran my battery down. I got mine for $700 on Amazon from RV boats and accessories. It is another Dometic but cools great. Plus, u don’t have to worry about being level. I promise u won’t regret switching to compressor. I think isotherm has similar fridge, but 2-3 times the cost. I boondocked all the way from SC to SD and then to Canada (where I had 15 Amp hookups at LTV rally for 3 days, and then moved on to Banff (hook up one night, then to Washington state... and boondocked entire way back to SC with no hookups, and fridge ran entire time (and I have no solar). No issues. I tried Alpicool $200), worked ok, but sat on my tally countertop, and took up too much room. Tried the Dometic smallest chest fridge (CX15???), which did fit between front seats, but then u couldn’t go from front to back, and it was Soooo small, it was worthless at $450. Do not recommend trying it. Then, I finally decided to take out 3 way, and get the smaller compressor fridge, and love it and the extra storage above it. It is smaller than the 3 way, but fit everything we needed on our 3 week cross country trip, with room to spare. Has a small freezer inside. Brilliant idea about magnet. Was thinking maybe u could glue a magnet to each wood piece on bed, so your fill in cushions won’t slide off in middle of the night.

      Thank you. I think you have pushed me over the edge. I need to take this time to change the fridge out and not pour any more money into stop gap measures.

      From She to Me I spent over $500 trying to fix mine before I bit the bullet. On 5th attempt, the RV shop told me they could take it out and turn it upside down for 24 hrs (in case it was vapor locked) for $200, and it may or may not work. I said forget it. I took videos so if u want me to send them to you, on how to remove fridge, let me know. Mine was older version, but should be similar.

    We have used a Engel 30 qrt cooler for 3 years in our boat and travel trailer. It is very energy efficient. It has something called a swing compressor. It can be a fridge or freezer but not both at the same time. We have the one that is a metal case. They are very reliable and are a true fridge or freezer. We cannot comment on the power it uses as a freezer as we always use it as a fridge. On the inside it has the space of a 30 qrt cooler. For us about 1 to 2 weeks of food. Keep up the videos.

    Thanks for yet another wonderful & informative video. I would absolutely recommend that you DITCH THAT FRIDGE🙌🏼! We live @ 7k’ & are sooo glad our fridge is a compressor version. For your snazzy new storage basket in bathrm, try cutting out little (adhesive) velcro (‘fuzzy’ side) & attaching to suspecting noisemaker basket parts-worked great for our broom 🧹. Thanks for both the twin fitted sheet on couch idea as well as yet another handy use of magnets 🧲 ! We have been avoiding use of campground bathrooms this spring, due to Covid concerns. So many adjustments to our lives, but we modify/adapt. Happy trails🌞 🚐💨💨

    If anyone will figure out the fridge situation - it will be you! Not proud of this statement but we are (okay I am) the workaround and make due type. Ex: freeze water bottles or ice packs overnight and move them to fridge during day. Ridiculous, but gives me some peace of mind. Ours ranges from warm to frozen, too. We are 2015, no lithium, just 1 AGM, 1 95w solar panel. So changing to compressor fridge would lead to upgrading entire energy system?🤣 And that’s why we just make due. There are many things we could jettison from our van and would do so in exchange for a high quality compressor fridge. Take my generator, microwave, tv... never used (except to exercise it). Still love our Ascent and would prefer to modify and keep it forever. Thanks again for creating your videos and hope we’re all back on the road soon!

    We have made a sheet set that is easy to make at night but it does take some of your amazing sewing skills.
    I have pictures but can’t find a way to attach them so I will try to explain. I used a queen flat sheet and folded and sewed it around the edges to make it fit. I wanted the extra thickness around the edges for the snaps. We put straps attached to the back of the cushions and come up the side and snap to the sheet. Bottom sheet stays perfectly in place, including keeping the middle cushions from sliding. For our purposes, I zipped a top sheet onto the bottom one with the sides completely open so it is just like a regular bed. You might not want to do that since John is so tall but it could be attached at the corners only. Hopefully, the pictures will help explain.

    Look at the Dometic CDF-11. It’s designed to go between the seats. It’s has two cup holders an internal light and place to strap it down. It draws less than 1 amp when the compressor is running. The thermostat can be set anywhere between 0-40 F, so on long trips it can be used as a freezer. On short trips used as a beverage cooler. Plus, due to its small size and shoulder strap, it can be carried to the beach or picnic. Especially if used with a battery pack.

    I like your ideas for the bathroom. In our Ascent we put the expandable rod down the center of the bathroom so we can duel purpose the space for hanging jackets and use S hooks to hang other items. Our few hanging items are out of way and pushed toward the towel bar so we can still use the bathroom space if needed. We have the same issues you do with the fridge. Will be waiting to see what you come up with. Thanks for all your efforts. We appreciate your videos.

    Always enjoy watching you. On the sheet covering the foot part of the bed, maybe measure it and see if a crib sheet would work, and if not a crib, maybe a toddler bed sheet. It would be small enough not to take up much room and it would be a tighter fit so it would hold the cushions together more tightly.
    Those tissues - I found those a couple of years ago and love them, but can’t find them anywhere, even online (even before the virus). I was pretty disappointed. I had vaguely thought of making a soft cover, but now I’m going to for sure! Thanks for that idea.
    We have a 2018 Travato 59K, so I can’t help you with the fridge. We did buy a Dometic cooler type fridge because we have such a small fridge in the van, but ours sits at the foot of the twin bed. We have to bring human food we cook for our dogs, lots of veggies (they have bladder and kidney disease) and it’s been a life saver. The fridge in the K was causing issues so we had to change out the unit inside it to make it a compressor fridge and no more issues. When we had the Winnebago Era, it had a three way and I swore we’d never do that again! We lost a lot of food because it wouldn’t stay cold.
    The box for the back sounds interesting...
    We do use our shower. It’s the main reason we wanted the K! It’s a pain sometimes but it beats any public shower. Most places we camp here in the east don’t allow you to dump water outside so outside showering isn’t an option. We did join a gym this year so we could shower in the gym more if we were near one, but then the virus came along and shut down our travel plans!
    Take care. Thanks so much for sharing.

      Good idea on the crib sheet. We gave up our planet fitness membership when they started requiring the guest to fill out paperwork and take a photo at every place we stopped. Which fridge did you buy to replace the 3 way?

    • @marthamanigross
      @marthamanigross 4 года назад

      From She to Me well I guess it was too early when I wrote and I wasn’t clear. We ended up trading in the Era, and didn’t replace the fridge - we replaced the entire van! LOL
      The K fridge is now battery or shore power only and we love it.
      The Dometic electric cooler fridge is the extra space we need.
      Sorry I wasn’t clear. I do hope you get an answer about the fridge. Pretty hard to enjoy traveling when you have to think about your food going bad.

    Maybe one day you could do a quick list of all the improvements/adds/hacks you have done on the Ascent and how much it all cost?
    Btw - Did you ever consider the longer base,like the Lexor or Plateau?
    I think the Ascent is the perfect size for two people but wondering what’s it’s really like from someone who has travelled in one for several years?

    • @FromShetoMe
      @FromShetoMe  4 года назад +1

      The Ascent has worked out well for us. No issues parking and our HOA let us keep it on our driveway. We did consider the Lexor but at the time, John did not fit behind the wheel (he is 6'5"). We understand that Ram might have made some recent changes in the design so the current model might have worked. The new Ford model looks very interesting--especially because of the compressor fridge. But we also like the extra power you get from the Sprinter chassis.

I did look Owl up on line and saw the one with the ladder. Did you consider that? If so, why did you not go that route? I also have my storage box on a Wilco swing arm. What are you going to be using the new storage box for? I would love to see the whole thing set up, with the new box, Tire holder and your Wilco with the storage box. We won't be getting the Owl storage box. We keep paring down our stuff and while it is always nice to have more capacity, it's hard to justify the expense. Also, we have e-bikes now and there is no way we could lift them onto a rack that sits on top of the box. We went with the Agile tire holder because Agile is close by and we were really happy with the suspension upgrade they did. I think they are probably of similar quality so it's just a matter of finding someone in your area. I'll see if I can find the video where I talk about the new rack.

      I'll be doing it myself. I'll have to add a 1/2" trim to one side as well as add a trim to the bottom. But on paper it shouldn't interfere with anything else in the back (I don't have the new fridge yet....takes 5-6 weeks). The area in the back of the fridge rises about an 1" (about 15" in from the surface of the cabinet). You'll see it when you take out the 3 Way (or you probably already know since you're so thorough). Hey Deb, We dig your vids! Curious though were the SHE to ME comes from...? Inside joke?
    We have the Plateau FL and use the Dometic CFX28W Electric Powered Cooler, Freezer, Fridge. The devise fits well in-between the front seats, as its 13.46 inches wide; however, once we turn both seats around it does not fit in-between the seats. Something on the side of the seats prevent this from happening. Once stopped for the night we put the CFX in the front of the passenger seat making sure its level as possible, as it fits sideways. With that said, it is 16.73 inches tall, so it does Not fit under the couch/bed if it’s down. We purchased the Dometic PLB40 Lithium Battery 512Wh and it does very well if the cooler is on "refrigerator" mode. The battery is suppose to be able to power the CFX for the weekend or longer. In our opinion, this is pretty slick and we can plug the domestic PLB40 into the MB Chassis Battery while we're driving via a 12v DC plug in the consul and run the CFX at the same time. I’m not sure if these measurements mean anything to you with the Ascent, as we do have the FL. The area behind the drive seat works well too. Last year when we did our 3600-mile trip it was vital to us being able to continue our trip when the refrigerator went warm. It may seem a bit pricey, however it works, and we use the Van Frig for Drinks now. The Battery adds to our times when we don't have the electrical hook ups! I have a few pics for you just not sure how to attach here.
    BTW we did to Agile Off-Road RIP kit on the FL!! We love it.
    Hopefully this helps you a bit.
    Safe Travels
    Robin

      Thanks for the info on your portable fridge. Amazing how many people have to do this. I measured between the seats and I think we would have to go with the smaller size, but we just need it for the few things that require cold temps.
      Funny, you're the second person to ask me today about the name. I love telling people where it comes from and I've copied it here for you (it's on my "about" page):
      It is from a favorite poem called "A Bridge Across Time" written by Darlene Stevens about her great great grandmother. The last stanza of the poem is:
      I'll live my life and when it's done
      I'll live again in those to come.
      For I'm a bridge from she to me;

      We rarely run into campgrounds that have gross showers. And I don't have a phobia about such things. I like to be able to stand up to shower and not have to remove everything from the bathroom and wipe it down after using. I can take a Navy shower as well as anyone but the tanks on these rigs are tiny. Bottom line, I'm not an "indoor puddy tat." I grew up backpacking; I don't mind "roughing it." To each his own.

There are people that swear by their Fords and I've had two Fords that I used to swear at. That was many years ago, so maybe Fords are much better now. Thanks for your video. I know about your situation with your Dometic fridge. May be my experience can help a bit. There is an absorption Dometic fridge in my Hymer Car 372 (7 years old now). The fridge runs on gas, 12 V and 240 V here in Europe. Once I was at a campers' rallye and stayed in the full sunshine for a week, the outside temperature went up to 40 to 42°C, which is VERY rare near Berlin. After two days, the inside temperature of the fridge (at 240V or gas) did not go below +15 to +20°C --- the problem of an absorption "fridge". Luckily I had my Dometic TropiCool TCX 21 with me; it cooled down 30°C below external temperature, so, at least, I had about +10°C inside the box. Last year, I purchased the small lightweight compressor Dometic CoolFreeze CDF 18 (Off season outlet price € 299 instead of regular € 549), which has a cooling/freezing temperature range from +10 to -18°C. Both boxes are of excellent quality. I have 2 x 110 Ah AGM (= 220 Ah AGM) batteries, and so far either box has worked great on 12 V for more than two days boondocking. Consumption was about 40 to 50 Amps (two days) by each. I am very happy to have the CDF 18 now which I use for camping or when I go shopping. It FULLY serves its purpose and easily fits in my van!
    I give you the British Dometic (English!) links FYI:

    Max amps is 2.8 when running. We usually have it in freezer mode and love it. We normally travel with it just behind the passenger seat and often put it outside overnight (still connected) to give us extra room inside. It’s very reliable. We taped up the quick access lid and use a thin foam piece as extra insulation under the lid. We recommend Engel to friends and family because in our experience they are the best.

      We run it on the house batteries. The 12v electrical cable it came with is 10 feet long with a cigarette style plug on the end. We plug it into a cigarette plug style receptacle with Anderson power pole connectors on the other end. On the electrical panel we added a wire with Anderson power pole connectors to an unused fused tab. That's how it's connected to the house batteries. When we put it outside, we use an extension cord with Anderson power pole connectors on both ends. It could be plugged into a 12v receptacle on the chassis battery, but we don't do that. I can send you a couple of pictures if you're interested. I have one of the travel position, one of the extra insulation for the lid and one showing the connection cable. Great thing about our rig is (at least before the lockdown) we could have sold it for nearly what we paid. Not many RVs you can say that about. • @FromShetoMe
      @FromShetoMe  4 года назад +1

      It certainly isn't true for some people but for many of us, whether we just have a lemon or there is some other design problem, we can't rely on our refrigerators to keep food below 40. At the PW rally last year, I asked everyone with our model if they had had problems and without exception, they had. There was even someone there who had rigged up a reflectix awning to shield the outside of his fridge from the sun. The sensor push device I keep in the fridge tracks temperature by 15 second intervals. It transmits the data to my phone and I can see the temp climbing to nearly 50 on some days. I also have to adjust the temp at night because if I keep it on max (as I do during the day), it will freeze everything inside. At high altitude, I have read that there is a problem with the air/gas ratio but there is no way to adjust it. So consider yourself lucky. And Dometic is of no help. I will say that I have not heard of people with other brands having an issue. For us, the solution is to switch it out with a compressor fridge, which we will do.
