    Great video as usual. I just changed out my mid 90's Dometic 2310 gas/120/12volt fridge with the truckfridge TF 130 compressor fridge yesterday. I had to modify the cabinet because the opening was an 1/8 of an inch off . An 1/8 of an inch ! . If not for that the whole process of pulling the old fridge and installing the new would have been an hour give or take. I had to get jiggy with my jigsaw and then eventually remove an inner cabinet wall . Today I capped of the propane pipe and I'm done . The fridge is completely cold within an hour and a half. Amazing. I doubled my battery bank to 450 amp hours using four 6 volt golf cart deep cycle batteries. 2 hooked in series positive to negative gives you one very strong 12 volt battery . Adding the second battery bank (also 2 , 6volt batteries in series identical to bank one . Interstate brand ) in parallel , bank 2 hooked to bank 1 , positive to positive, negative to negative. Gives us 450 amp hours . We also have a small portable Dometic Cool Freeze 18 that we use as a dedicated freezer , which is good because the Truckfridge TF 130 has a very small freezer . You will absolutely love your compressor fridge. Glad you're going to make the move.

    • @FromShetoMe
      @FromShetoMe  4 года назад +2

      It is two steps forwards, one step back with the fridge. I'm collaborating with another viewer. Pleasure Way has been a tremendous help. But it all comes down to fit. There is a vent pipe at the rear of the existing fridge that interferes with every unit. We may have to move the pipe but we'll see. We're looking at the Isotherm Freeman 115. Very efficient and bigger in size. Where there is a will there is a way. And I have a strong will...

      @@FromShetoMe Stan W.’s comment brings up a good point, Debbie. Will your 2 100AH batteries (I think that’s the Pleasureway standard setup) be sufficient to supply a compressor fridge, especially since from your videos it looks like you & John do a fair amount of boondocking?

      @@FromShetoMe I have some important information for your installer of your upcoming new fridge. I noticed that when I plugged into shore power , my fridge would shut off. It was protecting itself from too high voltage. I remembered the Roadtrek Rich installation video posted on RUclips and how he solved the issue. I plugged the van in and used my volt meter to check the the fridge circuit. Sure enough , it read 15 volts. I found a circuit that read out 12.7 volts and simply move the fridge wire over a couple of spaces and it now functions correctly. Here is Roadtrek Rich's video. The pertinent section is at the 23 minute mark. ruclips.net/video/o91Rzwy6Z1M/видео.html

    • @FromShetoMe
      @FromShetoMe  4 года назад

      The new Fridge pulls 262 watts/24 hours. Interesting thing though, the propane system pulls between .7 and 1 amps per hour so without the fridge, we can leave the propane in the off position except when we need to run the cooktop and/or heater. That will help a lot. And we never stay in one place for long. If we need extra juice we'll probably get something like the jackary 500.

    Quick warning that may help you: our Ascent had a lot of hidden black mold on the bare wood floorboard under the passenger side ottoman, in the hidden compartment below the carpeted panel. I was disassembling this to search for additional storage space, and was surprised to see a lot of fuzzy mold underneath caused by a cold winter and condensation on the uninsulated wheel well. Since you guys have done some winter camping I recommend you have a look in there and perhaps clean and paint that board.

    I really like your videos on van camping, very informative. We just moved up to a M/B pleasure way ascent 2020 from a nu camp tear drop camper. We always had our pickup to put extra stuff in. I have a couple of questions on some of the items you have installed:
    1) the over head rack over the front seats, great add on. Who sells them or where did you get it?
    2) the small camp stove, can you grill steaks and burgers on it? We always had our small charcoal Weber grill. Who makes it? And where did you get it.
    3) your spare tire rack is a must-have for cross country. What brand is it and did you install it
    yourself?
    4) Or do you have web site that lists those items.
    Thank you for taking time on these Questions.
    From a new pleasure way newbie and fan of your videos.

      Hi Bob. I made the shelf using a template and hardware kit from vancillary.com. I did a video on it you can see here: ruclips.net/video/QYbBKH72DgQ/видео.html
      I'm trying to remember which stove you are referring to. If it was a grill, then it was the blackstone grill and you can cook anything on it. We rarely carry it because it takes up too much room. We do carry a small single burner gas stove as a backup. We're not so much into cooking outdoors as it always seems to be too windy or cold.
      We've had two styles of tire carrier but the one we now have is from Agile Offroad in Santee, California. There are quite a few companies that make them. Another one is Owl Vans. We purchased a full size spare. Agile has done quite a few upgrades for us including a ride improvement package, differential cover, bigger brakes, air compressor, bigger tires. I've probably forgotten a few things but feel free to reach out whenever you have a question. If you go to my home page and then to the "videos" tab you will see all my videos in chronological order. Debbie

    I'm curious, typically if you have house batteries you have some form of battery isolator that allows your engine starting battery to draw from the house batteries if it's dead, allowing you to start the engine.

    • @FromShetoMe
      @FromShetoMe  4 года назад +1

      They aren't connected. We've had our house batteries die on several occasions but the chassis battery is not affected. We've actually used the small starter battery half a dozen times...on other people's vehicles.

So rather than try to find it I'll just tell you all I did was tie a not at each end to shorten the length and then put a small carabiner into the seat belt attachment that hangs from the wall above the rear seat of the van. The hammock comes with a carabiner so I just slipped the large one through the smaller one. I'll try to remember to show it in an upcoming video. We haven’t tried the newer 5G jetpacks. But they are supposed to have stronger antennas. But if you are looking to stream, you can go through data pretty fast. We mostly use our phones as hotspots now. I’m definitely not a fan of boosters. We tend to find that we can stream as long as we have 2 bars, unless it is a congested area (like South Lake Tahoe)

    Do you have solar? If so, any changes to that? What do you use for power when boondocking?

    • @FromShetoMe
      @FromShetoMe  4 года назад

      Yes, we have solar and 200 amp hours on lithium batteries. The only thing I would change about the solar is try to get the panels so that they can be adjusted to angle to the sun. Too often one of the panels will be shaded by either the antenna or the air conditioner and that significantly affects your solar gain because they are wired in series instead of in parallel.

    I am curious, was there any warranty issues with MB when you upgraded the suspension? Thanks.

    • @FromShetoMe
      @FromShetoMe  4 года назад

      If something had gone wrong, I'm sure they would have said it compromised the warranty and we could then have fought over whether there was a causal relationship. But the van is out of warranty and we would do it again in a heartbeat because the stock suspension is really at its weight limit after the vans are converted to an RV. I would guess that suspensions are not the usual things to require warranty work anyway.

      From She to Me
      It makes perfect good sense about the stock suspension being at its limit, and the upgrade certainly doesn’t do any harm on the vehicle... may I as how long you’ve own your Ascent before doing the upgrade? Reason for asking is I am seriously considering the same RV and with present day sticker price on these Class B, I want to plan for necessary mods before I hit the road. Thanks 🙏

    Why do you have to replace your windshield so many times? Why were you expecting to replace it after visiting Alaska? Just curious, thanks :o)

    • @FromShetoMe
      @FromShetoMe  3 года назад +1

      Most of the roads on the Alaska Hwy are "chip seal." Basically they put down a layer of asphalt and then spread gravel on top of it and let the cars driving on it push the gravel into the asphalt. So there is lots of opportunity for a truck to pick up a rock and fling it at your windshield. No matter where you drive, there is a chance of having your windshield hit by a rock and we have discovered that it is usually a large truck coming toward you.

For example, they can't claim a suspension improvement violates a malfunctioning radiator unless there is a nexus between the two. They also claim that using B20 voids your warranty.
