Whilst I have no interest whatsoever in yet another ,all signing all, dancing' streaming, app dependant, future proof (for the next 5-7 years) amplifier, I always enjoy the videos!😊
Having been an M33 owner for getting on 2 years (and an M10 for longer) I would have liked a discussion of sound quality of phono inputs, built-in streamer and headphone socket. Still you can't have everything and it was good to hear your views. One thing that annoys me about the M33, which has been on the market for a few years now, is the lack of upgrades for the MDC sockets. NAD touted this as future proofing but has not really done any and there is no sign that it will do. Otherwise a very entertaining video as always. Looking forward to the next one.
I believe there's a module that will let it play DSD, also noticed an HDMI expansion board, so you can connect your playstation to it so that's not bad.
In respect of DSP, I've just took a punt on a Lyngdorf DPA-1 Pre-Amp, and its RoomPerfect 'smarts' (replacing my Quad Artera Analogue Pre) - I've got to say it's fabulous... tightening my bass; opening the soundstage beautifully. Kraftwerk, Tour de France is magnificent!
I remember you also were impressed by the Elipson A2700 Class-D amplifier. NAD is also offering the new NAD M66 preamp with Dirac Bass Control for up to 4 subwoofers. I understand the MM phono module in both the M33 and the M66 is excellent too.
Hi fellas! This time it took you a bit less to get to the actual review - what were you thinking?! Now, don’t disappoint me now!! Joking aside, I actually had a good listen to this amplifier. In one word - stunning! To expand on the definition, it was as clear as a bell, very wide stereo image that expanded beyond the confines of a very good sounding room. Detail resolution was excellent too. It also does everything you can ask from an amplifier - lots of power, lots of connections - lots of everything actually! It also aligns itself to the room it is in. Very clever stuff. Build, too, is exemplary. All of that being said, I was actually quite stunned by how good and actually better in some areas the Denon that I own sounded. The NAD has more than twice the power output, at least on paper, but in real-world condition, Denon seems to be the more powerful amplifier. More tightness, more grip and yes, more evocative midrange. It just goes to show how important an actual audition is. Also, what a brilliant MM/MC phono section in the Denon! I think it’s interesting but if I were ten years younger, I am certain the NAD would appeal to me more. But since I am not, I am a bit tired of touchscreen interfaces and sometimes just prefer the feel of metal buttons and knobs. HIFI gear can look great and it certainly doesn’t do it any harm. It can also sound good but ultimately, if it doesn’t ‘feel’ good, then I know it isn’t for me. Still waiting for that MiniDisc review, though! Cheers!
@@Hi-FiRiff No, try less! When you try harder, that's when you mess it up. Just pretend you're a postman - never deliver all the letters. EVER! Remember, if it doesn't take at least ten minutes, then it isn't worth watching!! Blimey, all those so-called wannabe reviewers can't say in two minutes what the two of you can say in 45 minutes! They are a disgrace.
@@Hi-FiRiff Hey Mike! No, try less! You know that scene from Seinfeld when Jerry replaces the 'postal employee Newman' for one day and then gets called a disgrace for the uniform because he delivered all the letters?! By the same token, and I mentioned this once before, if it doesn't take at least ten minutes to get to the actual review, it isn't worth watching! Heck, other wannabe so-called reviewers couldn't accomplish in two minutes what you guys accomplish in 45 minutes! :) Anyway, I am still waiting for that MiniDisc review. I am beginning to think that you don't have any! Cheers!
Hear, hear! I was about to say that these guys should try a Denon upper range amp. I have the Denon pma 1600ne and it's hard for me not to go overboard about how freaking good this thing sounds. Even when I had a pma 800ne I thought it sounded better than a Rega Elex mk4 I tried out for a bit (and yes, it was "run in" before anyone asks).
The alternative might be an Aethos and a Bluesound Icon. The advantage is that it would be cheaper, do as much and the REGA would be repairable for the rest of your life where the M33 would have a date beyond which you might not get support.
I like the music you listen to. I don't own any Depeche Mode albums after Violator, but I found a remix of one of their songs accidentally on a Kruder & Dorfmeister compilation CD. It's their remix of Depeche Mode - Useless (K&D Session TM), and I like to test it out on my new gear. Thanks for the videos, they are great.
Im currently saving my pennies for one of these for a multitude of reasons. Confined space, running cool, connectivity, sound quality etc. I want to pair it with some Wharfdale Lintons. Id be interested to see how the Arcam SA45 will compare.
Another fantastic rift lads but call me old fashioned and a Hi-Fi snob (i'am) probably? But give me an amp to just amplifier the signal a dac to do its job so basically separate components and if possible each component to have its own outboard PSU
May I ask, where is that Hi-fi Riff Special Edition? You know, the Rush albums reviewed in order of preference and ranked for sound quality? Anyway, digital amps are not my thing, but a great riff, nonetheless.
I would guess that you would really have to have some experience developing synergistic systems before taking on an amp of that type. I could see a need for a poet here.

Well said, out of date soon
I am pretty much anti app for my hifi set up. Not much into anything with a screen either though I still enjoy the videos.
Thank you.
Mike
This is well future proofed... at the moment!
Mike
@@markjohnathanappleton8642 why out of date please?

Surprised you could get the pages of the mag open.

I quite fancy trying the NAD M66 pre amplifier into my ATC actives.
I went with the budget version. Nad c298( also Purifi Eigentakt) and Bluesound node. Fantastic combo.
Again, great you're giving CDs some attention.

Cracking review as always chaps!

Great video again from you two, love the atmosphere! NAD just always delivers thoroughly enjoyable gear so look forward to trying it.

this would be my route too, along with a small dedicated phono if needed... The aethos is a modern classic
@@kingtubby999 Indeed and you would get Dirac on an Aethos which might be really interesting.

On the subject of buying things making you think of someone I was buying some bread today and seeing thick cut made me think of you two. :)
Good quality chassis mounted rca's would've been nice too.. So many brands cheap out on this, it's not even funny.
I had a New Acoustic Dimension 3030 amp , that had meters, but hey I'm very old but probably spend less time in the loo than mike
Ooo errr Im 2nd commentator ….from my Sunbed in Portugal!
Afternoon gents👍👍

We all need control in the bottom end Mike.

Readily available. Any good DAC and a Hypex or Purifi poweramp. Very affordable.

Great review but I do find myself strangely distracted by David's knees
Sadly you'll have to wait until next summer to see them again, Dave - it's 12C here, and not getting any warmer...
I try not to look.

Would Mike benefit from a Lazy Susan for his big socket reveals?
Inspired idea!

I would be interested to know whether Class D amplifier modules are less sensitive to electrical noise than a trad Class A/B. Anyone care to respond?

Stop mentioning the Aethos, I’m resisting a demo as I fear if may be expensive
Did you guys say that Bruno P is working for NAD?

Gan Fets..???? Just asking because they are the best class D amps around..Go listen to a AGD pair of mono's..The sound like 211' s on steroids ..
Class d,no thanks, its funny how Cyrus audio old 200 was class d, but the new model is class ab,

I had M32 and it was bad. My Yamaha surround sound receiver blew it away for sound quality.
had M5 CDP-crapped out in no time, spent more time in shop than in my rack-only to be told NO PARTS SVAILABLE !
Yes, spiky feet are a waste of time. Ugly, dangerous and and totally ineffective.
