Its probably because it can be completed within 5 hours for this specific game.
I think the biggest factor is that this game has no learning curve so he can’t really rage at it or get frustrated with it. It makes it chill for him which he enjoys.
Its definitely a chill game from a gameplay point of view. I'm curious as to whether he's always been into playing games like this but just never has on stream before. He used to be a hardcore WoW only streamer before this more recent variety and react phase.@@janterri3539
This game is not really a visual novel I think. That said speaking of popular visual novels there is Slay The Princess which is a great game. It has been picking up popularity in indie community but alas does not have the free advertisement of people hating on it.
I had an old clip show up in my feed yesterday that showed Asmon talking about how he REALLY wants to go back and play through every Zelda game. I haven't been following him for very long, a few months at most, but I'd wager that he still hasn't done that yet lmao
This game reached "I can fix her" levels I never thought possible.
Its just easier to make her even worse and just go with the flow of your Sister-wife.

Twitter drama led me to this awesome game. Turns out, if Twitter hates it, it's probably fantastic. Played it, loved it. Who needs game journalists? Just do the opposite of what Twitter says and you're golden!

For context: The game does not condone incest. The villanous protagonist are bad people doing bad things, and there is a lot of manipulation in the story.
If reviewers, journalists and social media weirdos think something is bad then its probably good, if they want it banned or cancelled its probably amazing!
Just remember not all journalist are the same and Twitter is not a homogenous mass of only one opinion.

I love how this game presents a whole array of atrocities that the characters commit throughout, yet people get their panties in a bunch over the least vile and despicable one of the bunch.

@@matosz23 Im pretty sure its the opposite: Andrew has a complete lack of empathy and remorse - a psychotic trait, and Ashley lacks social awareness and manipulative, she also cant differentiate between different relationship types and lumps all into one - sister-brother to her is same as girlfriend-boyfriend. At the end Andrew just stoped caring so much about concequences - the only thing that scared and stopped him before.

He doesnt feel bad for his actions ever he fears he'll get caught and actively lies with a smile on his face to avoid consequences. He has no deep emotions or drives, and Ashley gave it to him in the worst possible way using his fear over and over until he felt he was getting good at it.

This game is controversial because people can’t seem differentiate that just because the main characters are the ones doing bad things, doesn’t mean the writer is justifying or OK with those things.
Also especially ironic how it’s the games incestious undertones that’s causing most of the drama, which, frankly is the least fucked up thing these characters have going for them.

It's like with music and stuff that involves anything creative to be put into it. The more insane the creator is the more likely the actual game/music is somehow the most creative and unique stuff ever created
A bit of devil's advocate. I have heard in cartoons for younger people at least where censorship improved the end product as it made the creators get creative. Raw things like this are good but not everyone is good at doing it like this. There is countless media that tried to be no filter and ended up lousy edgelord.
Also this game actually does have filters. It uses cutesy artstyle to detract from the violence. Working with this thing is one of those things where you need to know the rules of why something is filtered before you break them.

So I found myself sympathizing with Andrew more than hating him. He's basically a guy who loved a terrible person and wasnt man enough to say no when she pushed him. It became this abusive relationship where he was simply letting her manipulate him into doing what she wants to the point where it fucked him up, and eventually he seems to have just snapped and become desensitized to the things she talked him into doing. Seems as if she liked him better when he freaked out, and now, shes just finding out what she turned him into and its clearly starting to scare her seeing herself reflected in him.
....It's actually a pretty cool story, even if whats happening in it is sick and twisted AF.
Aside from andrew being victim of ashley's manipulation he is fucked up person with multiple psychopathy traits, he was actually first to do the killing and it was without remorse and his biggest concern was being caught. I wouldnt really sympathize myself with such character tbh

Wtf theres no way he played this game on stream. Personally i think the way the writing depicts toxic relationships to be brilliant and hauntingly accurate in some instances but all the soft moderns are going to use this as ammo against him.

People are so caught up in their moral crusades on Twitter that they don't realize that many, MANY stories that are cautionary tales or ones that teach morals are actually told from the perspective of the villain, to show why they ended up there, or what sort of things to look out for. Just because a tale is told from the perspective of the bad guy doesn't mean they're the hero. Protagonist =/= Hero, morally good, etc. It just means they're the one you're following the story of.
I don't think asmon cares about that. It's content and that is the most important thing.

I hate turn-based games usually, or they bore me heavily although i loved them as a kid in form of digital card games etc. But everyone was loving it and raving, so i thought what the heck fantasy is my favourite genre and i was looking to get back into gaming since i didnt for years. I was looking forward to it, paid the big bucks and started playing. I spent 1 hour in the character creator (that was the most fun unfortunately), played the game for like 30 minutes and was kinda bored out of my mind. Everything feels slow, the combat really just isnt that fun and idk.... i got off work early the next day and had zero desire to continue playing. Ppl were raving you can do anything in that game, but i guess you can throw a goblin or something. Im glad other ppl like it and have something they enjoy. For me, i saw it as a 60$ donation to the company in hopes they make a game some day i find interesting. Haventg touched it since.

This game is something all right. With Asmon narrating it's like a long, messed up bedtime story.
Don't let the cute graphics and music, and the fact that this is a video game, distract you. This could have been a Quentin Tarantino movie and people would go crazy about it.
Asmon not actually having any IRL siblings probably makes him the prime target audience for games like this.

Asmon playing this is hilarious, never in a million years would I imagine him playing this but probably bc of twitter discourse he is! I personally had a lot of fun playing it myself when it came out and didn't really get the hate from twitter as the incest isn't seen as good in the game either, it's one route of two and it's a edgy ducked up type of game but the writing for it is actually really good, funny and interesting. Hoping the game gets more eyes seeing it's not as bad as some think is great for the dev!

What I find hilarious is how you have lots of murders, cannibalism, summoning demons etc but the incest is apparently what people have issues with.

After the first hour of watching this playthrough, I ended up buying the game. The storytelling is so good, holy crap. I'm hooked!

This is creators 6th or 7th game? All the others are said to be good in their own way (not all of them are horror as far as I know)
Ive enjoyed watching the game and will buy it once it fully release , but hopefully the creator does make more games because they've recently been dox and only will be completing this game. No idea if they plan to make any other games

One can see how Andrew becomes so enamored with Ashley. Despite her flaws, she is loyal to a fault, and really loves Andrew deeply. She never shies away from letting him know how much she adores him, she is a very sweet girflriend in those regards.

I'm 1h in and it's kinda unnerving how similar Ashley is to a friend I had (without the murderous behavior ofc), and how much I'm like Andrew. Kinda really puts that friendship into an uncomfortable perspective. Still care about them greatly, but they need help that I can't offer.
Game looks really good tho. Love the art and style too, and the story, it's so dark, but so good.

An example of the fact that truly brilliant works are not complicated, on the contrary, they talk to the audience in its language, and everyone recognizes something familiar in these characters
People like Ashley are venomous and spiteful, and are willing to drag you through the same mud they’ve been dredging in just to make themselves feel better
This game gives me a very complex feeling. Everyones awful, the world sucks, the protagonists are weird asf Alabamanosauruses. Yet I can't stop watching this trainwreck with a smile at how ridiculously awful things get every passing second, like I don't want it to continue but I gotta know what the hell they do next.

ManlyBadassHero plays lots of indie horror games. There are some gems in the rough and there are some indie horror games that have some great ideas but could use a remaster / sequel

If a medieval knight burst into asmons house and told him a wizard would give him a flaming sword for completing the quest of tidying up he would be all over it
Too much hassle, Asmon can just dip his existing sword into some gasoline and light it on fire if he wants a flaming sword.

No lie, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to asmongold play this. He really brought these characters to life for me.

Loved this, asmons narration is gold. Listened from my pocket at work all day, thanks to the great narration I didn't feel the need to look at the screen at all, but the ability to at key parts sure was awesome .

To play devil's advocate, i believe Andy and Leyley's actions were mostly justified in episode 1 of the game.
They're being purposely starved to death so the cannibalism is necessary. They (and everyone else in the apartments) are being killed for organ harvesting so killing the wardens is justified. The reporters barely try lie about the prisoners and even threaten to kill anyone for butting in (on live tv) so the chances of being rescued were zero.
Andy and Leyley are a socio and psycho surrounded by socios and psychos.
I'm surprised at how well asmon reads actually. Especially since I've seen so many people struggle to read texts out loud

Never played it, have no interest in playing it (not my type of game) but I bought it anyways just to support the dev, and spite the crybabies.
You should give it a go, it's not my normal genre pick but it's pretty good.

This game is genuinely horrifying when you start to realize that all it takes is one shitty person and everyone else can easily get dragged into it.
Ashley starts everything, and Andrew, although reluctant at first, always agrees with it after Ashley fucking harrasses him to a breaking point.
Then, he regrets it, and Ashley uses that regret to chain him down further. At the same time, he also has some type of attachment to her which makes it even worse, as he cannot outright get rid of her.
And then, just as things are about to hit the breaking point, they reconcile with each other... without ever bringing up the source of the problem. Naturally, they never learn or fix their mistakes, because they never confronted it directly. And thus, the cycle continues on.
You can't change a mentally ill person if you're mentally unstable. There was no hope in the beginning. He didn't have the wisdom nor fortitude to endure, and Ashley never had the will to admit and confront her own flaws. Like that, she deceived herself out of the truth of happiness, and dragged Andrew with her deeper into insanity.
While much of what you said applies to all, there are multiple possible endings

Ashley didn't start it, Mrs Graves did when she decided to have a child at 15, another at 17 and leave the first child to raise the second. Ashley's personality is a culmination of bad circumstances
I would like to recommend two games for you to look into.
Slay the princess and Goody two shoes, the first one is a visual novel with strong philosophical themes, and multiple endings that all weave into each other,
the other doubles as a management sim during the day or you can go out and date cute girls
while also trying to convince everyone you’re not a witch so you’re not burned at the stake and a solid RPG horror at night.
I would like to explain more, but they are very story heavy with a lot of spoilers

This is such a fantastic game with such a great story and themes that its a shame that a. The creator got driven out of the internet for it, b. people just see it as "the incest game" and c. As seen by the comment section some people just play it to "own the libs"
but good to see Asmon doing it justice and enjoying the game too! i hope this inspires more streamers to play it

I'm amased that nobody seems to have the same innitial reaction to the overal theme as me (dough Asmon at some points seem to point out direction of interpretation). The real deeper problem of the cancelling "Libs" is clearly not that much with the twisted relationship between the siblings, but more with the background that drives the escalation of the problem. It makes them uncomfortabable because it hits to much home on the happenings of last years "uhum uhum". Think how far countries like China, Australia, Austria and Canada went end 2021/ beginning 2022. They are metaphorical the people that left Andy and Leyley for dead, and are for that indirect conspiritors to their demise. That doesn't excuse the actions of the protagonists ofc, but we see that the quarantaine under exclusion from the rest, drives all the flat tenants into an empty inhumane abyss. Exactly how most of our world post-SC2 ended up, or at least a good 30% of the population.
I think its interesting how over the course of the video we find that Ashley is insane (and throughout the video come to realize the insanity revolves around her obsession for her brother) and we(at least I did at first) thought that Andy was the victim (and he is at first) but slowly Ashley twists his mind so much so that his mind breaks( not sure if people felt the same way, but I felt he developed multiple personalities, which were Andy and Andrew(I know Andy is his nickname)) Towards the end Ashley really starts to feel the difference between the two personalities as Andy is "HERS" the one that panics and is flighty and does as she wishes while arguing. While Andrew is the cold blooded, calculating, insane side that will happily do as she asks as if the actions themselves are pleasurable for him.

Had no prior knowledge about this game before clicking on the video. nor do I plan to look into it further, but I will finish watching if Asmon posts a part two. Was definitely an interesting watch, started this at 4am and thought id only watch a few minutes before falling asleep and here I am typing away at 7:30 am
I definitely think that is one way to look at it, but based off of how he acts in the flashbacks, he is still insanely possessive and moral averse always seeing things as “this will cause us problems” as opposed to “this is bad” also see the “they are going to take you away from me, there is a really good character analysis done on andrew that convinced me that he is probably worse than Ashley, at least from what we have seen so far, but that is only one way of looking at it :)
That's fair, I felt the "they will take you away from me" was to get Ashley to try and understand how bad the situation is for her if she wants to stay with him since she was joking and acting so nonchalant about it.
I definitely think Andrew will turn out to be much worse then Ashley as towards the end (and throughout the video now that I think about it) It constantly showed that Ashley is always quick to violence and is impulsive, while Andrew is constantly aware of how bad his actions are and still does it anyway.
Feels like Ashley doesn't have any humanity for anyone other than her brother which is why she constantly feels like he might betray her, while Andrews humanity keeps him stable and its slowly eroding away. I also feel like he likes the toxic atmosphere and thrives in it. Just saw Asmon posted the rest of the novel so we will see what happens I guess @@spacing_0ut
@@jameskelley3578Something I just thought of is that when he's having nightmares after killing the girl the thing he does is to make sure that Ashley doesn't talk, suggesting to me that he was having nightmares about being caught not actually murdering someone. After the kill all the people in the apartment he is still only obsessed with the possibility that he would be caught. The difference between them may just be that Ashley is a psycho and Andrew is a paranoid psycho. Dating Julia also seems oddly convenient, like you'd think he would want to avoid anyone that might remind him of the incident but he goes specifically after her like he's interested in loose ends. Though I may just be reading into it way too far

@4kuman706 I think some of it is just passive versus active. Ashley is driven to torment and hurt people who have wronged her. Unless they threatened him or Ashley, Andrew would mostly ignore things. Without Ashley prompting him he likely wouldn't have the drive to have harmed anyone. While he may also be psychotic, without Ashley he probably would not have been a danger to society.

I love messed up stories, so this game gets a thumbs up from me even though I technically didnt play myself.
I was going to wait until early access was over to buy the game but I'm instantly enthralled. I must play through the game now before watching Asmon play it. I do so adore these fucked up romatic stories like Song of Saya and Happy Sugar Life.

THe whole point of the 3 options is to show outcomes if nothing is done
Andrew probably does have sexual tension with Ashley which is why throughout the whole game andrew is constantly confused. It is a bit of stockholm syndrome to being dominated by ashley with a mix of hopw ashley phrases things to the fact that he is a guy and he is in his peak sexual years and all he has is ashley because ashley won't let him go with anyone else.
Ashley does not love her brother the way people think. She is obsessive about him but not sexually. She sees Andy as the only person she can force to love her because of his nature (It is why she keeps calling him Andy because she loves andy, not andrew) Andy can be manipulated and controlled but Andy also loved ley ley despite all of leyley's shortcomings. Ashley knows this so she made a case where Andy would never leave her (The friend murder)
However, Ashley does not technically benefit by having either of these 2 end this way. I believe one of the 3 endings has no foreshadowing whatsoever because it is on the correct path which is the path where you trust andrew and then decide to not distort reality. Ashley in the incest ending sees that outcome (Well it is one way to make sure HE doesn't leave) This is not to refer to andrew, this is to refer to Andy. She wants Andy to stay and she feels like the more she messes andy up, the more he turns into andrew which is not what she wants. In other words, the demon manipulates the reality to make andy become more andy and less andrew.
In the other ending where you don't trust andrew, Andrew kills Ashley because their relationship has fallen apart and andy has fully become Andrew and andrew just wants to end it all. In other words, the demon (Who didn't say "Bring this one with you") Is foreshadowing that you will die if nothing happens.
In the ending that has no forshadowing. This is Andy still becoming andrew which is remarked on by Ashley because she sees him doing things that she is not expecting him to be comfortable with but as you do so in the dream, it is an acceptance and respect position. In other words, the demon did nothing because he didn't have to. Ashley herself changed as a result of this on her own.
The whole thing about Incest being promoted would be like saying this game promotes cannibalism. It is clear when you play it that the game is telling you that this is not a healthy path to go down but Leyley might just be desperate enough to try it because she can't let go of andy. AND IT IS ALL BECAUSE YOU CHOSE IT. You chose incest AAAAaaaaaaANDY!

I will say I don't understand why Twitter thinks this game is glorifying the sweet home Alabama moments. It's clearly framing *everything* these characters do as terrible. Just look at the mom's reaction, she's disgusted.
We don't consider this game to be glorifying cannibalism, murder, or any of the other horror/shock elements right? Like, we understand that those things are just fictional elements of the story to make the player uncomfortable.
The big controversial scene in one of the endings really, really, makes that message loud and clear lol. I won't spoil anything since the endings aren't in this video, but even characters that aren't bothered by the other shit in this game have a hugely negative reaction and it's portrayed as extremely disturbing.
Some people really struggle with media literacy I guess lol.
