This list continues to prove that Kennedy Brooks might be the most underrated player in OU history. He only averaged 7.0 yards per carry for his entire career.
Brooks was incredibly tough to leave off the list. Honestly it might have been the combination of me attempting not to use recency bias and just how easy he made things look. The guy was an absolute stud

Joe Washington was my favorite, I got to watch his whole career at OU. I will argue until the end of time that he got robbed of the 1974 Heisman that he should have won
A record SEVEN TWO-HUNDRED yard games is what says to me that Sims should be #1. Wow. And 3rd in yards per carry, at a whopping 7.1 yards per carry, seals the deal!
I was at that Kansas game in 2014 when Samaje broke the most rushing yards in a single game record. It was raining and cold but still awesome. It was also my first game.
That's must have been an awesome experience - watching history! I saw him a couple times - I think one of my favorites was a game against OSU (I think with the Big 12 title on the line) where he broke off a run but took a knee at the 1 instead of scoring a TD to ice the game
@@LimitlessSports yeah it was awesome. I was near the student section and a lot of people started leaving because of the weather but I decided to stay so I could witness history. I was high fiving fellow Sooner fans I didn't even know after he broke the record. Even though we went 8-5 that year it was still a great season for me because I got to meet both Blake Bell and Barry Switzer. Blake gave me a high five and I got a picture with Barry.
I don't disagree with any of these guys. However, OU has had so many other almost as great running backs. Mike Gaddis, Buster Rhymes, Elvis Peacock, and Lydell Carr were all excellent RBs as well. They don't belong on this list, but they were pretty darned good!!
That's one of the things that made it difficult - there have been so many good-great running backs over the years that a lot of guys that would make the list easily at other schools sometimes get lost in the shuffle (especially if you come right after or before a Heisman winner or record breaker)
@@denizen9998, oh gosh yes! I can't believe I forgot him. He had over 1,000 yards as a freshman, and I think another freshman rb, Earl Johnson or Jones, almost had 1,000 that year too!
Listing fave sooner running backs , is like trying to rank all time greatest guitar players,. Ou is so fortunate to have so many great running backs with there own style,. My personal fave is demond Parker
no wonder ou is the all time overall winningest college football program ever. they always have had great running backs but great quarterbacks as well, wishbone or passing it doesn't matter.
Great video - thanks for this! Peterson's best season was only 5.7 yards per carry.....Pruitt's was 9.0 yards per carry. Personally, I'd put Pruitt #1 or #2. Dupree's was 8.0 yards per carry, if I recall correctly.
Much appreciated! I'll definitely admit some bias went into this since AD is one of my all-time favorite Sooners - but I agree 9 yards per carry is absolute insanity. Dupree is one of the biggest what-if stories ever
AD was probably STRONGER, though, and Pruitt's TEAM was better than AD's team, so that of course would raise up Pruitt, and lower AD, unfairly. AD's stellar pro career: he had almost 3 times as much rushing yardage as Pruitt in the NFL, so I'd have to go with AD as maybe the better overall player - a much much higher draft pick than Pruitt was, as well.
Got it right. Peterson would be number one if he stayed longer. Marcus Dupree of course could be number one also but OU was just not for him. Billy Sims deserves to be number one but the one I loved watching the most was Joe Washington. What an inspiration!
Appreciate it! I agree a healthy Peterson would be tough to keep from #1 - as well as Dupree being on of the biggest "what-ifs" of all time. OU has had so many elite backs - made it tough to choose
@@LimitlessSports I would like to see some sort of documentary series on ex-Sooner athletes to inform Sooner fans where these athletes are now. There was a documentary on 30-30 about Marcus Dupree which was really good and it showed he is doing all right today. Why not extend that to other Sooner athletes that provides OU fans so many thrills during their time at OU? There are many great athletes that were borderline pro and you wonder what happened to them. Ex-basketball players like Chucky Barnett - who was the leading scorer in the Big 8 but didn't make it in the NBA I dont believe - where is he now? Ex- running backs like Elvis Peacock - who was a great performer on OU national chamionship teams and a world class sprinter - where is he now? I think that would get a lot of attention and would also be a great recruiting tool for OU - to show that OU fans dont just forget about you when you are gone. They care about what happens to you. Maybe too sappy but just a thought.
@@stevewatkins7144 100% those would be very entertaining to watch - I can definitely see something like that happening in the future. I also enjoyed the Boz 30 for 30 as well

I guess Marcus Dupree isn't on the list because he didn't play enough? Only play 1.5 seasons, but tallied almost 1800 yards with an average of 8.0 yards per carry. I would ask the question, probably for another video, who had the best single season for an OU RB?
I think that is an excellent video idea. And you hit the nail on the head there - just felt like he didn't have enough time at OU to cement his place there over the others on the list. He would top the list of "what ifs" in Sooner history for sure
Peterson would be #1 at 95% of schools - but Sims beat him out in almost every statistical category and nearly won back to back Heismans. Now if he was healthy for those 3 years at Oklahoma...we might be having a very different conversation
@@1025MG I think production is important - but Sims was also a top 2 player in the entire country back to back years. AD wasn't healthy long enough to have the impact that Sims did imo. Why do you think Peterson should be above him?
That was the tough part - I wasn't able to watch a lot of these guys play/there wasn't a lot of college film on them which made it difficult. Both are definitely worthy of mention!
i wished we could see the games like usc in 71 and pittsburg in 75 on youtube! i was 6yo in 71 and remember seeing the tshirt he wore under his pads with hello goodbye on it! would love to watch that game!

Billy Sims barbecue sauce is number one as well.

Joe Washington was my favorite, I got to watch his whole career at OU. I will argue until the end of time that he got robbed of the 1974 Heisman that he should have won
Quinton Griffin was one of my mind my favorite OU football players. Quinton Griffin had a Streak that he never Drop or fumble the ball.
Same - the fact that he could hold his own and excel at his size was mind-blowing to me at the time
Steve Owens scoring 35 points in a game, while the entire Nebraska team scored ZERO point, does my heart good.

Too many Sooners to have a top 10. Has to be Top 25 Sooners of all time instead. Great show. Sooners playing KSU at their place today. BOOMER SOONER!
