    With the S5II(x) Panasonic finally fixed their external RAW output.
    Each chroma channel gets delivered separately and without debayering which results in tons of texture, resolution and the addition of highlight recovery.
    The result is at least twice as good as before and outperforms the internal output in every single discipline finally :)

    Thank you so much Luca! The footage is much appreciated. I am hoping that Blackmagic will soon release an updated version of the 12G HDR external recorders, with a more 'modern' look (slightly slimmer, with smaller bezels), USB C port shifted to the side, and ideally a CFExpress Type B slot. I love the idea of working with BRAW, but the recorders seem a bit cumbersome at present.

    Thank you for the video and the sample footage! I downloaded and tried to grade them. I agree, they look artificially "sharpened" for some reason(and I think that's what you referred to as digital looking). There are quite a bit of moire and aliasing happening. I wonder if that was caused by some weird upscaling/downscaling during the BRAW interpreting/recording process. I have never seen those issues with my bmpcc4k or 6k pro.

    Nice video! I would like to hear you zalk about the delay as this is the biggest problem with these cameras.
    Also, I'm wondering about the digital look of the braw. With my testing, picture wise, there isntwo big reasons why using braw. 1. Denoising in camera is brutal. Dark colors get destroyed by it. 2. Look at the hue channel or key a color (sp hue+sat, not a luminance value) and conpare. In camera has huge squares. Braw has so much more detail. Important when colorgrading or greenkey shoots. Somehow not a single youtube review mentions this. This is the difference between 4:2:2 or 4:2:0 (in 6k) and 4:4:4 of braw

    Is it possible to record open gate 3:2 externally (BRAW)?
    Thanks

      Not with the Lumix S cameras. With fujifilm xh2s you can. Cheers!

    Theres still no highlight recovery in braw for S1?

    So you physically need the BlackMagic Video Assist 12g to actually record BRAW on this camera?
    You cannot record BRAW without BVA12 to a external SSD? and if not on S5II is that also the same for the DC-S5IIx ?

      @LucaBono.Studio  Год назад +1

      Hi! I've the old Lumix S5, but it's the same for all the cameras....you need the BMVA 12g to be able to record in BRAW, or you can buy a BMD Cinema Camera. Cheers!

    The Blackmagic video assist can record 5.8k/6k 12bit braw from S1H or GFX100II ?

      From the S1H, yes you can. I'm not sure about the gfx

    The most annoying part of the video assist is that it's marketed as being HDR, it's right on the front of the freaking display, yet when recording in BRAW you can't get any HDR preview. That part to me is absolutely wild. Yet some blackmagic cameras have HDR up to PQ 1000 nits on the in camera display LUT options, and the cheaper Atomos devices all allow for HDR real time viewing. The marketing vs real world workflow on that is just absolutely unforgivable.

      @DrWNoLs Год назад

      Whats funny too is it works amazingly well with HLG on the panasonics. There you can get an HDR preview perfectly, even better than any alternative. Its just too bad they dont do a better job with raw to HDR viewing.

      @@LucaBono.Studio Its not a problem if you arent planning on exporting in HDR, so youre likely totally fine. But for the few of us into HDR...its a saddening thing.

    Oh my God, what's up with that crazy latency? 1:40 - With that it seems as it is impossible to focus pull with that setup. Did it received an update? Nice vid, thanks for sharing the information Luca!

    • @LucaBono.Studio
      @LucaBono.Studio  Год назад +2

      Yeah, it's wild. It might be the hdmi cable, but I've tried every single cable from amazon (8K 2.1 HDMI) and I'm getting sort of the same latency when I film in BRAW. If you don't record in BRAW the latency is less. Cheers!

      No, it's not useless...if you can live with the digital sharpening, there are a tons of advantages while using the VA 12g

      @@LucaBono.Studio Is the digital sharpening really that bad that you cant use it on a professional work space? people are saying its muddy, the texture is bad. I dont really know now :'(

      There's the sample footage that you can download. Then you can check yourself if it's tolerable or not. IMHO it's fine for videography projects and small commercials

    Quick Answer: No you dont not need a Black Magic Monitor to film on a S5 II X.
