Tragic story... How loyalty is a myth, and the fruits of it are the most bitter ever. Deepest respect and admiration for a man that sacrificed an entire life to make sure another one's success...
really fascinating that he stoped doing acting to serve the best filmaker of all time, he realized what was important. I really love stanley but I would not have enough patience for all of what he would ask me to do like he did with Leon Vitali
he's a truly special person, the doc was very moving. i feel like he is the true apprentice of kubrick, so listening to him is about as close to kubrick as i'll ever get:)
Kurosawa, Kieslowski, Max Ophüls (Madame de, Letter from an unknown woman), Battle of Algiers (Pontecorvo), Z (Costa-Gavras), Carlos Saura (Carmen is mentioned, Kubrick also, according to Jan Harlan, liked Blood Wedding very much even if it isn't mentioned here), at the end Vitali may mention Fellini, but I'm not sure.
