    Hi Thea, great video,love your green dress,,, and I can only wish that one day I stumble upon a little black box, sitting in a corner in a thrift shop,,, and of course upon opening it ,,there sits a featherweight waiting to come home with me!!! Oh we can dream!❤ I like the striped dress as well, your hair looks nice,,, and I’m sure you will get her working,,, and I admire you for tackling working on these machines yourself!!! Very good frugal advice,,and your little chicks 🐓

    How exciting to find that tan featherweight! I love my 1940 featherweight. I named her Grace. In addition, I have a 201 and a 66 model. I do admit, I'm afraid to catch that featherweight addiction 😉 I had to change out the light bulb on my featherweight because it was so hot! The Featherweight Shop has nice "cool" bulbs. I also ordered the tune up and cleaning kits. The screwdriver set too! I've watched lots of how to videos on The Featherweight Shop's youtube channel. They've helped me to understand my machine, and I was able to figure out how to fix thread jams etc. When you find your cord, your machine might work. I ordered a new cord for my 66 and it was supposed to fit, but didn't. I put my original 201 cord on it, and worked. 😆 Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful machines. I really enjoy watching your channel. 😊

      Spotting that Tan one in the wild was crazy exciting. I have become very familiar with The Featherweight Shop - the shop and the channel. I didn't think I would be so excited about the Featherweights since I love my 301s so much. But here I am. :) Thank you so much for your comment!

      Aww thanks so much! I appreciate that. When I picked up sewing again a few years ago, I became determined to pattern match well and have dresses that I can move comfortably in.

    You are so talented in working with your hands to lovingly restore vintage sewing machines, and I know you will get your tan and black beauties up and running soon!

      You are so sweet, thank you. I definitely plan on getting those gals up and sewing again. They just need a bit more attention than I can give right now. But it will happen.

    Hi from the right side of Washington State 👋🏻 I picked up a 301 slant a couple months ago thinking that it’s not too heavy so might be portable enough for me to sign up for a sewing class. 😁 OMG I just saw the brown plastic sewing box in the background and remember owning one in my early 20s. 😉❤️

      Hey Eastern WA! I am a huge fan of the 301s and personally I would lug any of mine around anywhere. I hope you'll have a good time with it at the sewing class! Yeah, that old sewing box is "back in style". My 22 year old loves the look.

    Hi Thea, maybe you put the brushes in the wrong way. You could also test if the motor is running without the belt. I totally like your enthusiasm and passion for vintage sewing machines.

    • @TheaStarr
      @TheaStarr  24 дня назад

      100%. You know when you think you're being careful and following instructions to a t - you still mess it up some how. I could be me. I plan to redo everything and double check myself just in case. But I did get a new belt and I will test the motor without it on. Thanks so much for the suggestion and comment! I appreciate it. :)

      @@TheaStarr Hi Thea, I'm sure you'll get it going eventually. I just watched your video about the 1917 Singer 66 from a year ago, but couldn't find a sequel. Is there one?

  • @poetmaggie1

    Andy Tube does a singer restoration page, after thinking about it I suspect the reason the black one didn't run was the belt. This means the belt is not installed properly, and Andy showed that it can be tricky to make it work properly, I have a similar problem for my 1965 Singer in reverse I can't make the needle stand still while I'm doing a bobbin obviously I now know it's the belt.

    • @TheaStarr
      @TheaStarr  19 дней назад

      I do think that I potentially have a combination belt/brushes or brushes/wiring issue. I do think it needs to be replaced because of its age. They are tricky to install but that is one thing I do have experience with on Featherweights. Thanks so much for your comment!

    Beautiful, I'm familiar with those. I had the white version from after 1962. I didn't like the quality since the change to the timing rubber belt. Felt cheap. Tan and black are similar. My wish list for the tan. I own 3 FW first model 1933, 1953, & 222K free arm (1954).

    • @TheaStarr
      @TheaStarr  24 дня назад +2

      How do you like the first run model? Are there any notable differences sewing wise from the later models? Ooof, I bet the 222K is a fun one. That is on my wildest dreams list. I sew apparel 99% of the time and have wished for a free arm on some of my machines. I have a couple Pfaff's with them but it would amazing to have a smaller Singer with it. I hope you get that Tan model to complete your collection!

      @@TheaStarr thx. Early 1930s have a smooth feeling and quietly than after WW2. Almost like 301 feel but more power. There a Kenmore (1970s) portable with built-in stitches all metal gears as same size Singer FW pretty good machine. Thank you 😊

    Hi. love the dress. I have about 10 featherweights. I also have a beautiful 103 that I repainted. I wish there was an easy check up you can do on that motor. Maybe redo what you already did in case you did something wrong? That machine is worth fixing though. I hope you find the time. And enjoy the new grandbaby.

    • @TheaStarr
      @TheaStarr  25 дней назад

      Wow. 10? That's incredible. And a 103? Color me jealous. I do plan to do exactly that. Just go through it step by step again. I do feel like that will require my undivided attention though. I will definitely make time for it, since I want to sew with her so badly. I love my white one, I have a feeling this old gal will out do her when she's good to go. Thank you so much for the comment and I definitely will. :)

    Any sewing machine tec can readjust your machine into working condition, I believe machines should be taken for a thorough cleaning and adjustment every now and then.

    • @TheaStarr
      @TheaStarr  24 дня назад +2

      True. Although, around my area there are not any techs that will work on vintage machines. So, I'm attempting to learn myself. Cleaning and adjusting seems to be easy. Small technical stuff, takes time to learn and I am learning with these two 221s.

    Fail to see why color would matter, they have the same materials in them. I would love to have one but I have 3 machines now.

    • @TheaStarr
      @TheaStarr  24 дня назад +1

      The color doesn't matter between the black and tan. The build is the same. (The white one is different.) I set out to get the black model because they are more plentiful and cheaper. I just got lucky at a thrift store with the tan one. I am almost embarrassed to say how many machines I have. :)
