- Violent crime is spiking in the streets of Los Angeles as robberies in broad daylight, heists on train tracks and homicides are on the rise. Many long-time residents are more worried than ever. LA District Attorney George Gascon took office in late 2020, riding a wave of support for criminal justice reform but now, that support seems to have eroded as the crime surge continues. » Subscribe to NBC News: nbcnews.to/SubscribeToNBC

LA District Attorney Under Pressure From Rising Violent Crimes
He is the worst DA LA county has ever had. We need somebody to be tough-on-crime not somebody that's going to help the criminals commit more crime.
LA has the signatures, but to be safe, more signatures is needed to ensure it makes the recall ballot.
@@paulg6527
Basically, you want transplants signatures.
Wish we could bring back Jackie ✊🏽
Tough on crime is stupid but so is lenient on crime like gascon. You need a middle ground approach. Also going after white collar criminals who are the real criminals taking money
How about a harlinne Republican DA?
Being SOFT on crime NEVER works....never
Gascon doesn’t believe anyone should be in jail. He must go.
Gascone is of pice of crap and needs to be removed...
I hope they rob him too
If George Gascon is not recalled, then that means that the criminals have won and nothing will ever change. The best thing to do is to move out.
You 'Nailed It' Mac !
Crimes gone up all across the US not just LA.
Bub, the criminals are wining EVERYWHERE. It doesn't matter who the DA is, violet crime is spiking everywhere. the most violent locations are conservatives ones.
Facts!
@@wes5150.
No, he didn’t.
It’s the same. It’s just transplants letting their guard down in Melrose.
How does Gascon's victims make him pay for his incompetence? It would be justice if they can sue him and make him personally liable.
That would be called leniency!
They can
March in front of his house...am surprised Americans haven't figured that out yet....
@@CashCowz962 Isn’t it amazing this hasn’t happened? I’m not aware of any law that bars this from happening as there is with SCOTUS judges.
@@syn707 indeed....or at least march on the Capitol against soft on crime DAs..and against criminal justice reform etc. The civilians are clueless what's going on...and they are just victims in this game of death....but I also know that there are several millionaires....and whole activist organizations behind this compassion for criminals movement....so maybe some millionaires and orgs need to get behind the civilians protection movement
This is a BS interview Lester's too scared to ask serious questions. Lester could have asked about prior cases that the DA settled so softly that caused public outrage this is nearly a puff piece for the DA's office
Democrats don’t ever have to answer real questions.
Liberal media. Lester is part of it..
I do not know anything about Gascon or what is going on in that area. However, I thought that interview made Gascon and his policies look bad. The interview opened my eyes to why the people are considering a recall.
it's biased media, what do you expect?
F Gascon, your fault that the innocent became victims.
Recall Rascon!!
This dude is Joke, must be removed from office!!!
Why not talk about all the suspects and what they look like? They seem to be in 90% of the crimes caught on camera.
The Native Americans wish that they had cameras to .to show what 99percent looked like 👍
@@papadre70 Oh you mean the people who made their ancestor rich with the policies, yes Casinos
@@Blitzonu01 I've been to the reservations plenty of times for work. They're hardly rich, maybe a few of them are, the ones who sold their souls to the corporate devil. Many walk with no real purpose in life because their identity, dignity, and souls have been ripped off.
We need to go from Gascon to Gasgone! Sign the petition to recall Gascon if you haven’t!!
This guy needs to go, don't trust what he says because it doesn't carry any weight.
Progressive Restorative Justice is working and thriving for career criminals. That's it! Gascon MUST go!
Aw Lester, that wasn't a very good interview... it was more a picture painted about him than an interview of him. I would've liked to at least hear his explanations for some of his policies. He got edited down to half sentences here.
Democrats don’t ever have to answer real questions.
This is what happens when you defund the police… It’s not rocket-science it’s just common sense… lol
The title isn't "interview." It's literally "Gascon is under pressure," and that's why he's dodging the question.
@@joelavalos319 LOL right. And Blue Dahlia wants to hear is side of the story?!?...so a 'better understanding' could be made! LAMO
If I were in GASCON’S shoes, I would feel like I have the blood of two El Monte police officers on my hands!!!
He should be so ashamed and leave with his family the US forever
@@kingtut1735 He should be a public defender, not a district attorney who is suppose to prosecute!!!
Here is reasons we have crime wave..
1. Laws are to lax, on smash and grab, assault, car theft, etc.
2. Sentencing guildlines for said crimes are very lenient on need to be toughened.
3. Increase prison construction.keep criminals locked up
Several thoughts
1. Lester Holt did okay in this brief interview of the worst District Attorney in the history of Los Angeles.
2. Shame on the people of Los Angeles for electing this highly incompetent criminal lover Gascon.
3. As black man, I am ashamed to see most of these crimes committed by my brothers... smh!
4. Gascon who was wearing blue socks, answered most questions with "well its complicated."
Nice takes!
@@shawnlee6633 thank you Shawn. Finally a nice comment on RUclips 😊
4.1 Followed up point 4 with "IDK"
He needs to GO!
This guy lives in his own universe, at a time when LA is facing skyrocketing crime, Gascon can be seen attending Pride event.🤢🤡
Gascon needs to be removed.
Did he?
DAs and criminals are best friends in California, and some of judges too. All of them should be held accountable for releasing repeat offenders out on the street without consequences.
At the same time he is prosecuting police for doing their jobs
It's not complicated crime has consequences for everyone both financially and emotionally for victims relatives and community. The criminals need to have consequences clear and not subject to debate or politics!!
GASCON: You are a disgrace to humanity!
RECALL RECALL RECALL RECALL
Daryl Gates wouldn't have tolerated this, he'd be handing out nightsticks.
Didn't this Gascon was kick-out
of Arizona's DA's office?

You'll be glad you did AND it will convince you how important the Recall Petition is.
Consider signing the recall petition if you haven't already.
Some of the current signatures may be disqualified so we need to keep going.
I welcome your thoughts! Thanks
Vote him out.
Are you even from california?
Are you a im.igrant or born here?
@@PSICK1234ikillallracistrolls you're weird
Surprised NBC is covering this. Tells you how bad the situation has become.
Trust me he’s Gona be voted out watch
You over estimate the LA voters.
Enough is enough! It's time for REAL criminal justice reform:
1. Raise a tax to build prisons
2. Double mandatory minimum sentences on crimes commited with a brandished fire arm
3. Increase police budgets
4. Increase arrests
5. Increase prosecutions
6. Increase incarcerations
7. Decrease probation and parole eligibility
They won't build a new prison so congrats you just created prison overcrowding.
@@gwynlordofgettingparriedby2296 If they don't build more more prisons THEY created over crowding not me. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH...LOCK UP GUN CRIMINALS FOR DECADES !
@@gwynlordofgettingparriedby2296 Let them be overcrowded, and life inside is horrible, criminals only have themselves to blame...don't do the crime, don't go to jail...make them suffer, otherwise it keeps going!!! 5 to a cell,1 meal a day that's what prison is supposed to be ,not 3 meals a day, excercise yard to make them stronger..no!!! Feed them fat and lot's of oatmeal...
He just does not care. Lives in his own utopian world, so why should he be concerned with violent crimes that are not even in an area where he lives. Criminals should enjoy their day in the sun while he is office.
Crimes and murders are through the roof all over lost angelesss. Where does he live
Do Something!!!
Please consider the recall petition.

This man can’t even talk. How did he become DA.
How about charging DA’s with accessory to the crimes the criminals committed while their out on bond
Rapists and pedophiles and murderers are literally being set free with no consequences. Time to get Gascon out one way or another
look at his record in san francisco.
After extensive research it has been shown that violent incarcerated criminals commit no crimes on the street.
Lets get this criminal out of the D A office
RECALL GASCON
Prosecutors’ job is to prosecute and send the bad guys to jail. This Gas Conman doing exactly opposite. Kick him out.
He is on his way out following Boudin
The dude sounds like he doesn’t have a drop of testosterone 😂 District attorneys need cojones to protect the community.
Progressive policies on crime don't work in a society that places so little importance on education. Education is probably the biggest predictor of crime in any society. This is why Europe can be so progressive, because they put so much emphasis on having an educated population.
Baseless claim. Locking people away doesn't work. They tried this 70s - 90s. Progressive policy is why CA outpaces every red state in the US in economic prosperity. At less, we have protections in rent control and have access to social services which equal a far better standard of living than places like Texas and Florida. Where they can't even afford adequate infrastructure because there to busy trying to give the rich a tax cut
And they have mental healthcare, affordable housing, etc etc. they are not without problems but the U.S. does not want to admit that poverty is the main factor with crime. Control poverty and you control crime.
@@christinefury1040 Yup... spot on. Rehabilitation efforts work in Europe because they have a higher baseline standard of living for all citizens.
@@amyrenee1361 lol, really? Thanks for reinforcing the OP stance. lemme guess, you have a GED?
@@amyrenee1361 Educated by social media news? Lol educated by reading the comments of people you agree with?
I don't have think that's education. Education would mean the corporations get no say in what materials go on front of school children. Private interests have been controlling the narrative since post WWII in terms sof what goes in text books.
He should rent a flat in the bad zones.
Vote him out , ..
Beautiful LA became trash thanks to these guys
It’s that shot in the office for me where there’s nothing in the cabinets or on his desk.
he's all yours LA.
THEY VOTED FOR THIS !!!!
We the People in order to form a more Perfect Union are going to have to Protect Ourselves
I call him Gas Can.
Some cops act like gang members, gang members have detectives in their family to get them off the hook......I wanted to work for the FBI what happened?.......it's a bunch of bull
I love the empty shelves in his office… he’s clearly never been there before the interview
He said "I'm very fearful" I don't get why he would say that.
The people of los angeles thought that they would give a try to criminal justice reform
"I don't have anything worth stealing, so I feel safe!"
I felt like is Kermit the Frog using a human costume.
Hard to fathom how such incompetence - is in such high demand in Calif
IF policing is suddenly reduced in areas of higher relative 'robbable' wealth, it would not at all be unreasonable to presume that some protracted length of time would ensue until new market prices emerge that match the current level of demand for security. In the meantime, the security vacuum pulls into the area those most prepared to exploit the situation, many of whom come from surrounding communities. If rich people were somehow prevented from hiring private security, no markets would emerge to facilitate those transactions. All categorical sub-divisions derived from that trade would disappear, constraining the returns to economies of scale that from thence would emanate, introducing a floor beneath which the utility of prices evaporates, forcing from the market products and services previously marketable at those lower prices.
Gascon is a monster. He is indifferent to the suffering of victims. It is time we stop feeling sorry for criminals. Sympathy for criminals results in unimaginable suffering for victims and their families. I believe Gascon's reign of terror is by design.
safer than we were 30 years ago
What country did this DA come from immigrant. But I tip my hat to the criminals who have been segregated and treated like animals. Well now the animals u locked up jumped the fence
Recall this monster!
Yes let’s not charge children as adults so they can just keep getting out and dojng the same stuff over and over again
It's like the old movie Robo-Cop in Detroit.
This man has blood on his hands. He needs to resign.
Wherever there is poverty, there is violence.
Yea we dont blame the other prosecutor because they actually give strict punishment meanwhile the La DA is sitting here giving ppl timeouts in a coner
@1:24
Reporter: "Is Los Angeles county any less or more safe "?
D.A. George Gascon buries: "...I'm sot sure." quickly followed by " It's safer than it used to be 20 or 30 years ago."
What about "2000 Mules"? All I'm hearing is silence.
Where is Epstine's flight list?
California democrats deserve this. It’s what they asked for, literally.
small mind not critical thinking
Oh, please. Can we keep the Republican vs Democrats bs out of it. I’m in a county with a DA who is a Democrat. He has been a DA forever and is very tough on crime.
Gascon and his weak policies need to go!
God speed looting and mayhem are not victimless crimes like small amounts of drug possession and prostitution
The purge has begun
No, the purge begins when people are fed up enough to form vigilante groups.
Relax
It's okay u can leave your parents basement
No im in your wife's basement
This is why we need to use military police to bring the crime wave under control. Get those incompetent officials out of office. They need to recall all of the incompetent officials from office
2nd amendment is needed back in california.
I’m an LA resident, and the 2nd is alive and well in LA. Getting a semi auto rifle here isn’t hard at all, I got an M1A recently, background check took a whole 30 mins, picked up the rifle with muzzle brake, textured grip, and 10rnd loop mags.
The violent crime rate in LA is 10.28 per 1,000 people. The national average is 4.0
You would think that a good reporter would go and interview the police who patrol the streets on their view of crimes.
I want people to understand that criminals in California are treated like victims.. in California you never want to be a victim in court.. imagine being robbed and the courts make you feel guilty for having money..
Here in town but they are allowing people to take their own vendettas and attack whoever they feel because they have money and games and support of law enforcement to do so
I want Justice Reform but WTF we cannot have balance in this country? First time you can be lenient. But if someone shoplifts 10 or 20 times at some point the full weight of the law should come down on them!
I try to get help for many years now e is so dangerous he plot on me everyday wk ibg freely a d did all kind of stuff al day and night they can't see it they abusive me to us sad they don't have any idea what going on
Gascón needs to go. And we also need to repeal Proposition 47, which he was the author of, and which has led to an explosion of crime. If you live in LA, please sign the recall petition!
He is horrible.
Sounds like Count Kermit the frog
WE NEED TO MAKE THE MAJORITY OF CRIMES LIFE IN PRISON WITH NO PAROLE AS THEIR SENTENCES!!!
You do the crime… you do the time.
Recall him and vote for the Moscow DA who got 9 years for Brittany Griner. Criminals need to stay in jail not get out a day later so they can commit more crimes. Jails are not supposed to be comfortable.
recall him. hes delusional.
Is it safe to assume that i could take a couple months leave from work, go to california, and start robbing every place i can with no reprocussions ?
The DA won't care.
The answer is yes
Dude sounds like Kermit the frog HAHAHH
Crime wont stop..espwciaööy during a recession crime always goes up
Lock him up
This guy is clueless and he is aiding crime rise. 20 plus years in LA and I can tell you is getting worse and worse.
When you Wake Up ....
Prosecutors should be the ones who are affected by high crime.. unfortunately citizens have to pay for his incompetence.. things would be different if his family and loved ones were the victims of his lenient policies
They voted for him.
But isn’t la county sill penalizing theft ? And giving them citations
They get a free meal for the night and given a hug the next morning as they roam free.
This district attorney needs to find a job he is more suited to perhaps in the fast-food industry
Crimes are out of control. 7 elevens are targeted by criminals.
Need to reform on how to hold a criminal accountable.
Compare these policies to those of El Salvador. El Salvador was plagued by gangs for decades when they were soft on crime. I invite you to watch how the country is doing today VS LA a once beautiful city until mid 2018. The complete opposite.
