      Is top filter okay for the tank? I have 2 by 2 tank and I keep 1 black moor, 3 orandas and 2 koi. Are they overcrowded? The 2 orandas are in their first months and the other one is 1 year, the black moor is also 1 year. The kois are also in their first months

    • @TheWonderpup6
      @TheWonderpup6 4 месяца назад

      @jssjjsst a 2 by 2? How many gallons?
      That does sound a little overcrowded though. The sizes of the fish are a little more important to know then the age of the fish as well. My 2 fancies (an oranda and an ruykin) started in a 40gallon breeder with a HOB rated for 200gallons? Then they spent most of their lives in a 60 gallon tall (wouldn't recommend, too tall not wide enough for fancies) with a external filter rated over 800 gph. And they still had thr occasional issue with waste.

    Thank you for saying this, altho most of the info most fish need. I hated when I worked at petsmart and ppl would buy a fish (usually a beta) and a super tiny crappy fish bowl, no filters, no air stone, no nothing. You try to educate them and they roll their eyes and make their original purchase then get pissed in like a week when it dies and they have to come back.

    Something I’ve learned over the past couple years is that, plants create oxygen for the fish, the fish take in oxygen, they eat and do their waste, the plants take in the waste, and create more oxygen with it :D
    Highly recommend getting a plant, it also keeps the water very clear along with a good filter. I started out with the hardest plants ever and got rid of them. My grandmother has been growing a Pothos longer than I’ve been alive, and she cuts off pieces for me every once in awhile and I add them to my tank. It’s essentially something I don’t even have to touch it just does its thing. And they grow so well in tanks and the fish nibble on them but not enough to kill the plant. It looks more natural and I LOVE them. Highly recommend the Pothos plant as well. As I said there’s basically no care to them aside the lighting. You plop them in the tank and let them thrive. If they get too big, chop them off and give them to a friend or another tank.

    As a subscriber who lives in a tropical country, I have fancy GF in my diy outdoor pond and since I live in the tropics using a heater is just optional because it really gets cold here during rainy seasons or during or after December. I suggest getting an aquarium fan/blower instead because most of the time it's warm or scorching hot in here.

    Can I add? Please make sure your water is ready and cycled before getting your fish!!! Especially on the mainland US, where the water is super full of weird chlorines and other chemicals, it can take a bit of work to get your water ready, so don't buy the goldfish first, because they'll be stuck in a bag with little water while you prep the tank....which takes a bit of time!! 😅 Can't just throw goldies (especially these expensive ones!!) in regular water and expect them to survive.

    A heater brings up metabolism which is Wonderful for growth but not for ammonia build up, especially in a tank as small as a 20 gallon. Warmer water will also make ammonia more toxic. You can also get more dissolved oxygen in colder water. So over all unless you're growing the fish out its usually a better shout to keep it cooler (65-70f)
    They are carp after all and thrive happily at that colder temp.
    I always suggest a minimum of 30g with 15g ontop for each extra as well but a smaller tank is possible with a lot of water changes.
