      @@MrFish-ko7vi Yes, except even with a kickstart you still need to wait about two weeks so that they can start getting into the filter and settling, for the cycle to properly work. Especially with a big goldfish like that. Gonna make a lot of ammonia.

    A single goldfish needs a 20-gallon tank, with a large filter. this is why most goldfish die.

      You have to wait for a bacteria cycle to build up so that the bacteria can break down the ammonia in the tank. The reason so many people have dead fish in the first week is because they don't do this.

      It usually takes a month or more, but you can shorten it to about a week with bottled bacteria from the fish store or online. It's worth the wait to make sure the fish are healthy in thier new tank.

    please remember how big fancy goldfish can get. they need at least 20 gallons for one then another 10 gallons for each one you add after. they are messy and need a lot of clean up and care if kept in smaller tanks. the smaller the tank the more cleaning you need to do. please know that

      @@thatonezach The fish is not having fun, it's in an inadequate tank and has no companions. There's no such thing as a "micro goldfish", the smallest fully grown goldfish are around 8 inches long. Stop being ignorant and listen to what people who know better than you are telling you. Goldfish have a lifespan of 15 years but I can tell you that yours will not live anywhere near that long.

      While this is totally correct, I'd like to point out that goldfish are gregarious animals and prefer to be in at least pairs. A single goldfish in an adequate tank is still not optimal.

    Hey Paul I 100% love your videos and I just want to let you know that the proper care is 40 gallon for one gold fish plus 10 gallons for each extra just due to the large ammonia deposit of a goldfish. Just being friendly

      proper car for 1 GOLDFISH, is 20 gallons. NOT 40. And plus, since the goldfish is still a baby, he can upgrade the tank as he grows. pls dont be telling paul what to do when you think that 1 goldfish needs 40 gallons. Just being friendly

      @@jaislater 20 is the absolute minimum but still isn't great bc the amount in ammonia they produce it will require much more maintenance and has a smaller margin of error 40 is reccomended

    replace the gravel with sand, remove the decorations, move the fish into a bigger tank, and do your research before condemning fish to a life of suffering for your amusement

      Gavin Matheson the decorations are fine. However, the tank size and gravel is definitely not. The gravel is a rookie mistake, and by doing a little research you will see the best substrate is sand or bare bottom for goldfish. I made the mistake of using gravel with goldfish, and a piece got stuck in its mouth. But that was 18 years ago and we didn’t have the resources for research that’s available now.

      Scarlet Animations i’ve heard that it’s better for the goldfish because it has more room to swim around, i’ve had goldfish before with some decorations in the tank & they never really hid in them, they would usually just swim in the areas that were open

      I never let any of my tanks cycle and I can tell you what I’ve been into fish for 5 years an never had a problem I don’t even let the fish acclimate in the water and they do perfectly good

    Fun story: When I was 7 me and my friend found a turtle that was shot twice with a B-B Gun, was missing an eye and had string tangled in his legs! So we took him home and put him in a tote my friends mom took us to the store to get it some stuff and we come back with probably 30 items for it! Once it got better we released it and I still have all the stuff we bought for it!🤦‍♂️😂😂😂

      Luke_ it takes at least a Week to Cycle a tank and that’s with Bottled Bacteria. And even then you should wait about a month before you add fish.

      Gold fish can theive in 10 gals assuming you have fancy goldfish like a ranchu or bubble eye but its very hard to maintain good parameters and only 1 goldfish 20 gals is better

      @@SK-sq5bk Small varieties need 20 gallons, but I still think that's too small. Especially since they shouldn't be housed alone, I wouldn't recommend one in anything much smaller than a 30 gallon.

      jeongyeon's cereal bowl the decloranator needs to be put by the liter. So 1 liter: 4 drops . He just put like a few drops which wasn’t enough :)

    Pretty much how we did it when I started keeping goldfish in 1982. Didn't know about cycling the fish bowls and later a 10 gallon. Filled them up with 6 or 7 fish. All of mine lived atleast a decade.

      Wow, poor things, ammonia must have been burning their scales and I would say those goldfish were from a good breeder and were hardy, just don’t keep goldfish in such small tanks

    Paul do your research before buying an animal. Fancy goldfish need a minimum of a 20 gallon tank and even that is pushing it but a 10 gallon tank is abusing this fish. Do you know how fast a full grown goldfish will dirty up a 10 gallon tank?

      I don't, because this tank is far too small for goldfish and Paul is a terrible fishkeeper who doesn't know any basics that a Google search could tell who who only gets fish for RUclips and doesn't care for their well-being.

      I disagree with you I do a lot of research on this kind of stuff and everything Paul and Nick do I agree with. And if it screams lack of research what would you do differently? They got food, the tank, filter, hiding areas, lights, gravel and he even rinses everything out and gives it time to cycle. Plus goldfish don’t need heaters so I don’t see what’s wrong

      @@Ak-fm2lb Well first off gravel is not good for goldfish and that gravel can easily be swallowed and hurt the goldfish. Plus that tank is WAY to small for that one fish. Third those plants in there could easily tear the fins of the goldfish. I would recommend watching some goldfish vids if you think this is ok.

    First of all that tank isn't cycled. Second of all props for not getting a common goldfish (1 fin goldfish) since they get huge but a 2 fin goldfish but they still need a bigger tank due to how much they make ammonia rise. And last of all i would recommend hard plastic plants for large fin fish due to them being able to cut their tail on that and cause infection, you can get fabric plants or even real plants ! Also also that tank is where alot of sun hits so expect alot of algea

      forgot to say but also while acclimating try adding every so often a bit of water from the tank you want to add the fish in. Since its a goldfish is a bit hardier but for more water sensitive critters (like shrimp for example) try adding water little by little ( drop technique or shot glass)

    5:17 make sure you measure everything out precisely or it could be life threatening to your fish, also 1 fancy tail goldfish should be kept in a 20 gallon permanent tank or a 10 gallon temporary, koi needs a pond or very large tank, common goldfish needs a large tank too but I don’t know much about them, point is.. know about the fish you’re keeping please 🥺

      Sorry this is a year later. I have only really ever owned fancy goldfish but from what I have heard it is the same as koi fish - a very large tank or pond because they are very strong swimmers and can grow very large too.

    Kids this days like doing drugs, smoking, flirting, phones. I was like you when I was in your age although I was lived in a dense city with a dense apartment. But I had a 50 gallon aquarium with koi and gold fish. I also had peacock pigeon and a lot of plants in balcony and my room. It was awesome. I wish kids follow you. It will keep them busy and also they become animal lover be gentle in future. Thank you again.

    If you're watching this, DO NOT GET A 10 GALLON AQUARIUM FOR GOLDFISH. It's wayyy too small. goldfish need 40+ gallons. Do your research beforehand

      How about you do your research and find out the water parameters in that tank? He has enough space to swim around but the most important part is if the water parameters are good. And 20 gallons is more than enough for 1 goldfish.
