The Colorado Trail, A Thru-hike in 2020

I completed a thru-hike of the Colorado Trail between August 2nd and August 28th, 2020.
I had wanted to visit Colorado for several years, never having been before, so on July 28th, I packed up my car and drove three days west; it was the best choice I ever could have made.
A friend began the hike with me, and we covered the first 70 miles together, after that, I hiked "alone", though it never really felt like it. I met so many amazing people. I am so grateful for this experience.
    Some details about my hike:
I walked from Denver to Durango in 27days
I summited three 14ers (Massive, Huron, San Luis); I started all three climbs in the dark to catch the sunrise
I chose to walk the Collegiate West Route
I took only one zero day in the middle of my hike at the Butterfly House (I HIGHLY RECOMMEND) via Boss Lake Trailhead
I jumped in every lake I could muster up the courage to plunge into
I said "hello" (out loud) to every pika and marmot I encountered. I also talked to the grouse and the ptarmigan. If you don't do this, you're missing out on an opportunity to make friends

I went to Colorado July 2020 on vacation. I never hiked before, but fell in love with the Colorado trails. Came back to Massachusetts and haven't stopped hiking. Half way through the NH 52WAVs and have completed 21 of the 48s.
Thanks for sharing this incredible section of Colorado.
Curious, about the Elevation of that trail. You made it look easy, but of course you are a bad ass! Happy trails 👣

So great meeting and camping with you and Joe by the train tracks. I laugh at myself about my comment that night when I said I didn't like the last 50 miles or more. My final day was 40.7 . Blew right past Taylor Lake at 5 pm. Hope you are well. Don ~ Mad Rat

Hi Ivey, great adventure! I was curious what you used for food storage out there to keep it safe from the critters and/or bears. I am thru hiking the CT next month and can't decide on which method would be best. Any helps is appreciated. I read your "about me" page on your site btw. Happy trails and all the best on your journey!

Thanks so much! I used an OpSak and a dry bag combo and then hung my food whenever possible. In alpine environments I stowed it far away from where I was sleeping.
