The Colorado Trail, A Thru-hike in 2020
Просмотров 5 тыс.3 года назад
www.shetreks.co/ I completed a thru-hike of the Colorado Trail between August 2nd and August 28th, 2020. I had wanted to visit Colorado for several years, never having been before, so on July 28th, I packed up my car and drove three days west; it was the best choice I ever could have made. A friend began the hike with me, and we covered the first 70 miles together, after that, I hiked "alone", ...

    Congratulations! I'm starting in the middle of October and could you tell me the limit rate of your quilt, or sleeping bag because you told always there was so cold every night. I don't want to freezing during the nights. Thanks.

      Hey! By starting in October your weather will likely be milder than mine, I didn't start until the middle of November. My quilt was rated to 20F, and it was in the teens most nights. I swapped it out for a 15F mummy bag and that was much warmer. Good luck on your trek!!

    That was wonderful! I look forward to heading SOBO this fall. Can you explain the ending tribute to persons that died in the desert?

    • @shetreksco
      @shetreksco 2 месяца назад

      That is so exciting! I am stoked for you. The ending tribute is for persons fleeing their homes in Mexico, Central and South America, to come into the US across our southern border. The Sonoran desert is a harsh place, and often times these people are promised safe passage by individuals who take their money and abandon them in the desert with no water or supplies. Thousands of people have died at our Southern Border. Our obstructive immigration laws/processes are a huge part of the problem; people do not believe they will be able to legally matriculate into the country in a reasonable amount of time, they fear detainment, and they are often fleeing violent situations in their home countries which require urgent relocation.

    • @Perrier_Hikes
      @Perrier_Hikes 2 месяца назад

      @@shetreksco I thought so, I want sure if it was a metaphor for persons experiencing SUD or addiction. But yes the southern border is a humanitarian crisis not a security issue. It’s very sad so many policy makers view them as less than human.

    Hey Ivey. This was great. I have been staying in Killington, VT for several months and so I pass the trail head for The Long Trail every time I go to or from town down to Rutland. Hikers are frequent riders on our public shuttle bus. I used to camp a lot in the summers up around Lake Champlain in Burlington, VT and thereabouts but I never did any trail hiking. I think I might give it a shot this spring or early summer. Thanks for sharing!
