Recently re-watched the entire This is England series from the first film thru to 90. What a deep series, and what a great idea to use Ludovico Einaudi's music throughout the series. I cried so hard at the end.
I hated Milky so much after his scene with Combo. Watching the ending scene almost makes me pity him alittle. The rest of his life is gonna be utter torment. While basically being dead inside, he has to watch all of his friends be happy and cheerful because they decided (unlike him) to forgive and let go. Its pretty much a living hell.
I think he did forgive Combo. It was more that the murder plot had been planned many years in advance. His family had also included an outside party (its unclear if theyre hired killers or NF members) that most likely wouldnt have been happy if Milkys family backed out of the murder plot.

Aggressive, racist, violent, self-centered, guys, there's nothing about the Combo from 7 years before, 7 years and not 7 months. Seeing him you see far a mile away that would do nothing anymore and he is terribly repentant. So repentant that he goes to Milky and does not try to escape, on the contrary, he tells him that he forgives him for handing him over to those fools and hopes that one day he will also be able to forgive him. Forwarding Combo had a moment of impulsive madness 7 years earlier, he had a shitty life, prison, absent family, food always little and poor at home. Which is why he felt a huge envy for Milky on that occasion in 1983, ever-increasing, Milky was a kid who had everything in Life, he couldn't understand. Also complicit were the early years of waves of immigration across the UK with the Thatcher government favouring lower costs and wages for local labour and putting politics, which could no longer represent the working class, and foreigners in itself in a bad light. Combo himself regrets after he explodes and takes Milky to the hospital worried. We also remember that they had spent the afternoon smoking weed and weren't completely lucid. This does not want to justify Combo in any way but we try to understand the two actions and the background of each of them. Clearly seen from the outside, Milky seems much more ruthless to deliver to the Combo hitmen, he does it lying, with a smile, coldness, then he repents too, tears and so on... Combo died free, somehow repairing a disastrous past with many good deeds, such as supporting Lol and saving Lol sister's life from her stepfather. Milky is alive in chains and I have no idea what he can do, considering that no one in the group knows what happened yet. As for the murder plot and the "promises", it was Milky himself who brought Combo to them so he is the most guilty of the thing, he could refuse if he wanted to or cancel in my opinion, nobody has a great desire to get their hands dirty also because then those responsible will be searched in depth. In my opinion Combo in the last few parts, he really became a great person. Strong, in the right way.
My respect for milky went in an instant he will forever suffer for his actions. Absolutely great actor 👏 played his part well really made the emotions go.
like the end scene, there are just no words to describe "This is England" If you've watched the whole lot over say a weekend, you are emotionally exhausted with the journey. Stephen, Vicky, Thomas (who has been an incredible star with all he went through) are world class actors. Never have i ever been so immersed into a world that I felt part of it, and this down to the genius of Shane Meadow's skills and how he gets the best out of everyone. from the Lovely Hannah Walters playing "Rudy Trudy" with forlorn Gary (Andrew Ellis) to the incredibly powerful absolute oscar winning performances by Vicky McClure and Stephen Graham, some scenes I can barely get through, but Shane once again with his incredible skill directs the scene with incredible tenderness, backed by the beautiful haunting piano of Einaudi's "Nightbook." and others Truly believe this is a masterpiece of our time, some of the best scenes ever to grace a screen 100% a "watch the whole lot in a weekend" you will laugh, cry, get anxious, almost be sick at one point, cry some more, laugh again, probably cry again.. but its worth the journey i promise you that

Six years later and I still can't get over how bleak 'This Is England' ended. The story always got dark (incredibly dark at times) but would always end on a warm & optomistic note. I know Shane said he wanted to do a final TIE movie one day. Reeeally hope that gets to happen. I'd take almost any ending over this one.
