To get rid of any flying pests, get carnivorous plants. They catch almost anything. And they are fun as well.

Best thing for the TikTok situation is to create an account so people can report it as “pretending to be someone else” as most of the reports seem to get ignored by TikTok 👍🏼
Another great video. Some of my enclosures - the slings, probably need to be a bit drier - so my fingers are crossed that they’ll be ok.

    • @ArDeeMee
      @ArDeeMee 2 года назад +2

And then create a single video for it, calling out the situation and explaining that this is a placeholder channel that will not receive regular updates but exists as proof of claim, adding links to Facebook and RUclips. Both of which should have an update that day, merely pointing to that Tiktok post. That way, no one can argue about your claim.

In my case, my Ts are kept in the basement, where it's always at 72F (22C) year-round. I use Kritter Keepers as enclosures and I occasionally overflow the water bowl a bit. No issues whatsoever over the years, my big adult females are all happy :)

Some great information Dave. I have a separate room for my tarantulas. I have the curtains shut in that room anyway, which helps a fair bit anyway. I don't go crazy on the water. I don't get many gnats in that room, even from the 3 colonies of roaches I do have. I tend to go through them and give them a clean out .... I hate sorting the red runners, they are absolute pains 😂... Anyway cool video Dave. 👍

It makes it a lot easier to measure out smaller amounts of water and to get it where you want it. As usual, great content. I look forward to watching your videos as soon as I punch in at work. So helpful of you to put this out!
Really glad you've addressed people spraying down enclosures excessively and creating a massively humid environment due to the speed of the evaporation.
I've got a relatively small collection which I keep on a middle mezzanine floor which has a partial skylight so the sun can blare through that quite heavily so I've moved them all to the relatively cool ground floor and now have 20 tarantulas on the kitchen worktop for a couple of days.

I think the spiders take it cooler than we do...heatwave will hit us in Sweden too but mabye not as hard as in the UK! When I took care of my sons tarantula I used common sense during a month when we had temperatures around 30 to 35 degrees every single day. I kept the blinds shut, she had water and her enclosure was well ventilated and I tried to air out heat during the night / when it was doable. It was almost unbearable hot inside our apartment for us and the houses in Sweden are built to keep the heat inside during the cold seasons so the heat accumulate in the walls and it takes a long time for it to cool down! AC are not common I houses or apartments here but we ourselves use fans to keep us and our pets cool. Plenty of rest, and water to drink too! I can't ❤ love the heat but I will try to be gentle and calm! Good advise and an informative video as usual, thank you dear Dave and Sweet Camera Lady! Hugs, Susanne.

Hello Dave and Camera Lady. This is a bit silly but I was so tickled you mentioned my comment about the heat here in Texas. 🥰We all pretty much have AC so we just stay inside and it isn’t such a big deal. The heat brings the cicadas out and the are quite loud. The brown Texas tarantulas have all gone to ground. I was wondering, out of all your different types of beasties, which ones do you think handle the extreme temperatures better? I would think sand spiders like the heat but what about the cooler temperatures as well? It might be fun to do a video on the difference between the males and the females of the different breeds. One last thing for gnats, we use a small bowl with apple cider vinegar but we put plastic wrap over it and poke holes in that. Okay, bed time for Suzie 😴. Thank you for the lovely video. Stay safe and cool! Take care.

Hey Dave! DO read this comment man, lots of good stuff in it, i may or ay not have went overboard with praise near the end, whoops.
I started this video before going to work while eating breakfast, had to get ready for work, planned to finish the video on one of my 15 minute breaks or my hour-long lunch break, but that didn`t happen because my friends had the same breaks as me so we chatted and laughed and gossiped about work lol. So i watched this after work, after a much needed dip in my pool and a shower. There`s a bit of a heatwave going on here in Canada as well, at least in my hometown, obviously i can`t speak for the rest of the country. Today it got to 36C, when you have a job like mine where you`re outside for most of your shift and it`s very physical, constantly dodging cars, sometimes the carts decide to be stubborn and the wheels lock so you have to fight harder to turn, happened to me today, fun times ya know? Sometimes it gets as hot as 45C but this time of year 30-40C is more common. In winter, -30 & -40 is not uncommon, bitterly freezing, lots of accidents on the highways...
Anyway: Great video Dave! Glad you touched on this topic, very good topic to cover, lots that can be said about this, and who better to cover it than you, Dave? And everything that you said, makes sense! I really liked that you showed us what you were trying to say by showing us a few enclosures, and by spraying water into an empty sling pot, me personally, i`m a visual learner, something that`s very important at school for subjects like math which i struggle with. Very nice touches, Dave. Thankfully, my two households (I`ve told you before in previous comments that my parents are separated, so obviously i`m talking about mom`s house and dad`s house, although i tend to call him Papa, which is French for dad, and i speak French as a second language, which i`ve told you before, i go to French school so ya know) are air-conditioned, although, my lizard enclosures (bearded dragon Long-Tail, got him when i was 5, he`s about 12 years old, and Leopard Gecko Rocky, got him for Christmas in 2020 after months of research) are always very warm ;).
BTW Dave, you got me with that moult for the Chaco Golden Knee, then once you said it was just a moult, i was like: Dammit Dave got me with the old spider moult trick.
Regarding the gnats: We get them in the summer sometimes, obviously not in the winter here for obvious reasons (snow) and we`ve actually been using that same trick for years!
BTW Dave: I LOVE your accent haha, it just makes the video that much more enjoyable to watch and they`re already very enjoyable! Not to mention that you say things that i pretty much never hear in Canada, i sometimes find myself saying things that you say in your videos and my family gives me weird looks lol. I guess some words are just UK slang haha, kind of like here in Canada we have **Ahem, clears throat**: Eh there bud, gonna go watch the hockey game bud, gonna get my double double coffee and go shovel the snow eh there bud, where`s my maple syrup, gonna go ride my moose to work bud.
Yes, some Canadians (especially my family, specifically my grandfather, dad`s dad) talk like that lol.
Before i wrap up this comment, here`s some positive/motivating words for you Dave, because you`re a cool guy and you deserve it!: Dave, for me your channel will always be one of a kind, there`s no invert creator like you. You`re the only one in my subscription list (keep in mind that i`m subbed to 15 invert creators, including you) who explains things the way you do, as in depth as you do. Your way of making enclosures is truly unique, you can tell that you have your spiders welfare in mind while making the enclosure. You`re just all around a good guy Dave, very cool. Although we live in different areas of the world (you`re literally across the ocean from me), you`re at the top of the list of creators whom i want to meet in public one day, it will be day that i will remember forever, because in many ways Dave, you`re my hero, my idol if you will. And i can only imagine your reaction, finally meeting me, i know how highly you think of me. I`ve always pictured the conversation starting like this: Me: Hello... Dave. **Dave turns his eyes to the side, and turns around and sees me sitting on a chair** Me: **Holds out hand** Noah Roy, pleasure to finally meet you. Then the conversation can go either way lol.
I also like how you dedicate full on evenings (you said this in one of the live-streams with Scott) to answering comments and messages, not many content creators do this, but you accept that RUclips has come to the point where it`s like a second job for you. Answering comments is another thing that makes a content creator just that much more awesome. I also love how you and Camera Lady have this kind of chemistry on camera, i`m sure you two have an absolute blast off camera! Not all relationships are healthy, but i think it`s safe to say that you two get along just fine, am i right, Dave?
BTW: I could be wrong but did you get new shelving for the Beastie Room? When you were showing us a few enclosures, it looked like different shelving that what was there before, am i right or am i going crazy?
I could write a legit book, just full of positive comments about you but this comment is already long enough as it is.
Do please reply with your thoughts, excellent video, i hope you, Camera Lady and the Beasties are holding up well in this heatwave and i will see you on Thursday! Looking forward to what you have in store for us! I hope you read all the way through, Dave.
One more thing: Happy the TikTok situation is going good, let`s bring that **says words that shouldn`t be said here** down. The sooner you create an account, the sooner we can and i quote, fight fire with fire.

@@daveslittlebeasties Yeah Dave, i wrote that comment last night before bed, probably started around 8:50PM and posted it at about 9:45PM lol. I like to write if you can`t tell.
Reminds me of a song i like: ``Go ahead, write a book, i`ll be bringing fear to the neighbourhood.`` Song is called: Slappy, 2020 Nightmare album. Slappy the evil ventriloquist dummy (don`t call him dummy) with a serious Napoleonic Complex. The artist makes songs about movie characters, he has pretty much anyone you can think of. By far my favourite music artist, i`ve been frequenting his Chucky, Annabelle, Slappy, R.L Stine and Jurassic Park/World Songs lately.

G'day, mate. I'm an Aussie and I've lived most of m life in the tropics and sub-tropics. I can count on one hand the times I've been living in a place here when the temps went over 40C. Granted, I lived in places where summer averaged 35C. But you folks, you, from my memory once considered a heatweave to be 25C. I do honestly feel for you having to go through those temps. It'd be like me having to spend a Winter at 5C. I think I'd die.

If the room is a bit humid anyway, it may be advantageous to add a small fan for air circulation, or turning on a ceiling fan. The additional airflow could prevent the enclosures from becoming septic/stagnant. Also, if you don't have AC, you could try what we call "A Redneck Air Conditioner" which is a temporary fix, but works in a pinch. Buy a cheap foam beer cooler, cut two holes near the top, add a small fan to one hole, fill the cooler with a bag of ice. The ice lasts a lot longer than you think, and it will knock a few degrees off the room.

Regarding the fungus gnats, I do keep those clear sticky strips (the ones that go on windows), on the tops of my roach colony lids (dubias can't get to them), but for my tarantulas, I put them on top of the mesh lids, stick side up. I put a slice of veg on top, and the little morons will get stuck en masse. It works pretty well, and I am only struggling to control them in my isopods tubs, everything else is basically gnat free now.

Living Down Under where 40°C+ is common in Summer, a tip for evenings and nights when the temp dips outside and creeps inside so it becomes stifling indoors is keep doors and house shut up during the day, but open up doors and windows of a night.

Greetings from Mocksville, North Carolina, USA. LOVED the little mini tour of the Beastie Room. You have done those before but how about some more in future? I really miss the one (I think it was the White Knee you showed here) that used to be right beside your worktable. She was always out and I swear she was watching you right along with us. Also, I'd asked in a previous comment about an anatomy video of top side and bottom side when someone's on the glass. Maybe you've got that in the pipeline. I'm not quite caught up but don't think you've posted one like that yet. Thank you as always for such great, interesting content.

It's counterintuitive that tropical species could get killed by the heat of summer in the higher latitudes but you have to remember that tropical places don't have summers with their longer days. The only US state to never record a temperature over 100 F is also the only one in the tropics, Hawaii.
