Have you ever brought someone new out for their first High Peaks hike? What was your experience? Which mountain did you choose? I think if we had to do it over, I wouldn't have started Adam on Sawteeth, but he did an amazing job!

Kudos to your friend who did his first High Peak! My only attempt was Big Slide, I never made it to the peak and at 11 pm (started at 7am) when my friend and I finally made it back to the Garden our families were hiking in to find us. It is never fun to tell the DEC rangers you are ok and they don't have to search for you. Beautiful views. Thanks for filming on what sounds and looked like was hard conditions.

Big Slide is an incredible mountain - both in terms of views and effort required to reach the summit! Glad that you and your friend didn't get hurt -- if you've been watching for any length of time, you can see that I'm 100% about turning back if something isn't right, so I'm happy you made the right choice!
      Thanks for your support!

We just did Sawteeth via Scenic Trail yesterday. 1) We saw a young male buck 🦌 jump off rock ledge into Ausable Lake. Incredible splash noise! He swam across lake to other side. 2) I “used” to freeze up on ladders 🪜. Something that has helped me tremendously is I focus on counting down from 60 backwards in my head. Lastly, those trails are nooo joke!!!

Oh well ... I would have loved to see the deer swimming - that must have been awesome!!

That place is beautiful can't wait to hike there one day. Climbing up the what rock looks really fun.

We are incredibly blessed to live so close to such a gorgeous wilderness area. It's why I try to spend as much time as possible exploring and adventuring in the Adirondacks!
      Thabks for watching!

Always appreciate your (and your friends') perspectives on these hikes! I have reservations at the AMR lot for Saturday and my friend (who has 18 of her 46 left to go) and I are planning on doing Sawteeth. This video confirms my plan to do it via the Weld trail both ways and thus avoiding the ladders and false summits, haha (hopefully the part between the summit and the Weld trail won't be too bad sans snow and ice).

Awesome --- glad you're getting out there! It's really a beautiful area, and I think after the recent weather you're unlikely to find much if any snow and ice, but who knows --- it's the Adirondacks, and it makes it's own weather ;)
Enjoy and have a great trip!

Ladders, wait till you hit the ladder between Gothics and UWJ. Another solid video Glad Adam got his first high peak in, hopefully he's hooked and will do a few more, if not all of them. Do you guys plan on finishing next year? Any idea which mountain you plan on finishing on?

I've heard about the ladder situation along the GRT ... we'll see how that goes ;)
I'm hoping to finish in 2020, and the goal is to end this leg of the journey on Dix. Fingers crossed everything goes according to the plan.

Thanks for sharing your adventure. Glad no one got injured. Hope everyone's feet stayed dry being so wet.

Thank you for watching! Other than some sore muscles for a couple of days after the hike, everyone was in great shape! Only Charissa and I hike in trail runners (when there's not tons and tons of snow), so everyone else's feet stayed dry and warm for the most part. Even our feet warmed up considerably when we started the descent from the summit - just standing around in that weather was no fun ;)
