Just came across your page and it’s motivating me to get back out on the trails! Going to the catskills this weekend but looking to head to the adirondacks to hike Gothics/pyramid. Where exactly is a good place to park at? Ive been looking at maps and trying to find parking lots for hikers near the trail head. Looking forward to seeing more videos man keep it up!

Thanks for the sub and thanks for stopping by to check out what I've got to offer. That is great to hear that you are going to be back out on the trails. I'm happy to hear that I've given you some motivation as well, that is one of my main goals with this channel and that is to inspire people
For the route you are thinking about the best place to park would be exactly where I parked. It is the Ausable Club off of Route 73 (a little bit South of Keene, NY). You'll have a couple of different approaches you can make starting off from here. You can head up Beaver Meadow Falls like I did or continue on to Lower Ausable Lake and take the trail that heads up Cascade Brook or you can continue along the lake for a bit on the Scenic trail which will eventually lead you over Sawteeth and then onto Pyramid/Gothics.
Such a great area for hiking, so many options.

Caps Outdoors thank you for the info! I actually on a whim headed up there after work this past Friday with all my gear. Slept in my truck at the St Huberts parking area for a few hours til sunrise. As i was cutting through the Ausable club I noticed snow on all the peaks but thought it was just early morning frost. Made it to beaver meadow falls around 8:30 and made the ascent. As soon as i reached the open run off channel it was snow the whole way up! Ended up being a pretty intense hike with a ton of downed trees on the trail and a lot of ice and slipping. Was really challenging without any crampons or spikes. Snow was much heavier toward the peak at around a foot of fresh powder that was melting from the mid day sun. It was well worth it tho! Absolutely amazing views. With the conditions and daylight I just did Gothics and came back down the same way but im already planning another Trip for late spring to either do a bigger loop in that area or maybe do Algonquin. Thanks again for giving me the motivation to get out there!

I have been going to our family house in Keene Valley for almost 35 years in summertime. I’ve climbed about half of the 46… Did not do the bushwhacking ones. I’ve done the top 10. Gothic‘s is my favorite of all the claims in the 46 high peaks. When we used to go there was no cell service and we had no television or any of those modern amenities. It was climb all day, read all night. There is only cell service there in the last couple of years… And it’s great for Keene valley but not so great when you’re trying to get off grid lol. Thanks for the gorgeous videos!

Good video. Working on my 46 also. About 40 left to go. It's a long drive up from Queens, so it's gonna take a few years! Keep getting it!

Thanks! I know all too well what you mean by years. I started on the NH48 back in 2012 and I just hit 23 this Summer. I predict I'll be done with the ADK46 by time we land on Mars!
Keep at it, we both have a lot of great adventures to come working on this list!

Headed up to do Armstrong and gothics end of June and taking the same trail you did, beaver meadow. Very excited. I’ve heard that way up is great! Will be 9 and 10 got me. Did jaws last summer and took same route back to lake road you did. Gets very long toward the end haha. Great video!

That road walk was probably the worse part of it, HAHA! You are really going to enjoy that hike up on that trail. Nothing I shot does it any justice, it's such an amazing hike up. I originally planned on bypassing that route and going for the cables up the other side of Gothics but decided the day before I left that I had to see that waterfall. I can't wait to get back up there this year, already planning my first few hikes.

Hello from Long Island.... just wanted to say thanks for your videos. I really got into hiking 2yrs ago and have loved every minute. Your videos have educated me on different trails in the northeast. So far I've done the long path loop (but started from tuxedo station) and the franconia ridge loop because of you. Verkeerderkill Falls my first ever day hike and Lake George 12ster was my first accomplished goal and I got hooked. Please don't stop making videos as I truly enjoy them. I do however have trouble finding good loops. Could you possibly do a video on how you find these trails or your favorite loops. Thanks again for sharing your trips.... 🤙

Hello! Hearing you say all of that really does solidify my position on putting in the work to continue forward making these videos for you all. One of my main goals was always to try and encourage people to take these trips and see for themselves exactly what beauty lies out there for us to explore.
I've been looking at the Lake George 12ster so that is funny you mention it. I was thinking of trying the challenge in the Spring (all the peaks in 24 hours). Never been to Verkeerderkill Falls but I just looked it up and there is no doubt I'm going to go check it out. Looks amazing!
That is a great idea for a video, why didn't I ever think of that? Planning trips is one of the things I've never touched on. I have a few trips in mind that I want to take so let me see what I can do.

Thanks Crag, upstate NY is incredibly beautiful especially this time of year. With any luck I'll get one more trip in up there in a couple of weeks. Fall is definitely the best time to hit the trails! Anything in the works for you?

Caps Outdoors Awesome ! No backpacking trips scheduled for the fall. I fractured a bone in my foot Saturday, bummer. But I am planning on doing a solo canoe camp this upcoming weekend in Vermont, providing my foot cooperates ! Have a great week.👍

@@MeetMeOutside Ah man, that stinks. Take care of it and hopefully it'll heal up quick. Sitting in a canoe in Vermont sounds like the perfect kind of therapy! Have a great trip if you make it up there.

Thanks bro! One of these days you will be there because I'm going to drag you out of your house and make you hike it! Yup, I did the entire thing in a single day. I left home at 1:30am and was back home by 10:00pm the same day. Was a long one but so worth it!

I like both of those channels as well. I worry about over use. Is it just specific paths locations that you are seeing the impact more?

    • @capsoutdoors
      @capsoutdoors  4 года назад

It's really the High Peaks in general but there are trails that take the impact much more than others. It is such a wonderful place so I can see why they draw the crowds. Thanks for stopping by the channel and checking out the video!

There is definitely a problem with loving nature to death. I am a Leave No Trace Trainer. The only way that the mountains will be saved is through more sustainable trail building. Permitting is a controversial issue because the land is to be free for the people, but they aren't " keeping it forever wild."

Without a doubt there is an issue with loving it to death, I don't even stop to think about it a lot of the time (and I know I should). Agreed on the permitting, it's a tough conversation to have when things have been one way for so long. Thanks for checking the video out!
