Jeff, thank you so much for featuring me in this video. It turned out great! Folks who have commented or reached out about my anxiety disorder, thank you so much for caring. Good news, it's entirely due to steroids, and those I take entirely voluntary with no compulsion or addiction. As soon as I want, I can stop them and within days I don't have severe anxiety disorder anymore and within weeks I barely have anxiety at all. I HATE how they make me feel, but I have a few goals in bodybuilding left to accomplish, so I deal with it. I have a knack for doing very hard things that take a long time, so this is right up my alley. No need to worry about me! PS: If I die before my due time from the cardiovascular shit... it's been real and this is what I wanted. Do not ever feel the need to be sympathetic of me. - Dr. Mike
My best friend died of heart failure at 43 years old. He openly admitted that he regularly used steroids. He was convinced he was being safe in his steroid use. I told him he needed to stop but he just wouldn't listen. His kids had to grow up without their father and I've been without a friend that I've loved since childhood.
@bugattidragon1237 not all steroids do the same amount of harm. Test only cycles are pretty safe if you get your blood work regularly and take a moderate dosage. It's tren and most of the oral steroids that can really mess you up
For those wondering about the title, the channel "kurzgesagt" recently made a video titled "Smoking is awesome" and it follows the same narrative, down to the "let's smoke a cigarette together" and then go through the physiological effects. Many people commented it was the best anti-smoking video they'd ever seen and I think it's an awesome idea by Jeff to make a "mirror video" about steroids. They will be a huge health burden for many in the near future.
I am a 67 years old amateur power lifter and fitness trainer and I have been exercising for over 50 years. I weigh 80 kilos and I still have a nice muscular figure I'm not big as a bodybuilder. I still exercise four times a week for two hours a day I never use steroids am still strong and I am healthy.
Yeah you don't need PEDs to have a good body. People who think you can't get a good body naturally are obviously people who've never worked out in their lives. Just eat healthy and work out, it's literally that simple. People just lack discipline and motivation so they claim you can't do it as a coping mechanism.
So benefits of steroids: - get bigger muscles The downsides: - acne - small balls that stop producing your own testosterone - baldness - abscess risk - anxiety, random rage, constant high libido - man-boobs - higher risk for heart failure - lower IQ, older Brain - when taken at a young age you might stop growing in height and mentally Is this worth it?

Yeah no one likes being told what to do in fact if you tell people what they shouldn't do they're more likely to do it. Where is if you give them the information and let them make a decision on their own they're most likely going to make the right one
As a doctor, I’ve seen a 25yo man with his leg amputated after his arteries were DESTROYED by steroids. The poor man was crying, but it was too late. Don’t do it, it’s not worth it! Live your life
Working on infarctus emergencies here : We get A LOT of fitness coaches & influencers & bodybuilder in their 40's getting infarctuses, getting extremely severe cardiac failures (Left ventricle with ejection fraction as low as a 80 years old grandma). They are big, they have abs, they are often extremely well groomed, tanned but their heart is collasping before our eyes and we can only save them a few months / years and they are only 35/40. Take care young guys
Steroids are medicine. There are countless more that are perfectly fine and never need to go to the hospital. Steroids have been proven to be healthy and helpful when used correctly, they are medicine.
@@juandoe7802Most likely big cities with a high amount of influencers and a strong gym culture, like Huston, NYC, and LA. Dr. Mike not sounding so great in this one. As someone with severe anxiety but without steroids, my heart goes out to him because I can hear the pain behind his voice from it.
Same. Actually lifting was part of getting me out of anxiety disorder. It's long behind me at this point and I can't imagine choosing it willingly as a trade off.
Why are you feeling cheated ? You were always going to be bald. Had you started juicing in your teens, you would have lost your hair even sooner than you did. It’s like feeling cheated over something you never had in the first place. Juicing doesn’t turn people that weren’t going to be bald, bald. If you genetically were going to suffer from male pattern baldness, steroids would have just accelerated that process.
Just wanna note how mike compared the process to designing a racecar going past 200mph, brilliant way of looking at things. Also "safer it was never safe" hits home.
@@thename2138 video game cheating is a terrible analogy because you literally don't have to work or be talented at all with video game hacks - you just click a button and you beat everyone no matter how bad/lazy/untalented you are and no matter how good/hard-working/talented your opponent is. Meanwhile you can take all the gear in the world and you won't ever look as good as some natty bodybuilders or lift as much as the best natty powerlifters/weightlifters in the world. Secondly, there's no safety repercussions for cheating in video games whatsoever, which the racecar analogy covers.
@@trtnec Not necessarily. There are cheats that are more powerful and therefore more blatant than others. If you use less blatant, less powerful cheats, like a soft aimbot that helps you lock onto the target only when you are very close to it, you have less chance of being caught than someone who uses a hardcore 360 headshot across the map type of aimbot. In both cases you can be caught so they are by definition not safe but one is safer than the other.
@@trtnecyou have to put in the effort to find or make the cheats then you still have to play the same game that everyone else is playing but you just have far more advantages. Which part of that isn't a good comparison
I think the worst part about this is that healthy young people by and large *cannot* understand how life-ruining it is to have significant heart issues, for example. It's one thing to read or even hear testimonials about it, but at the end of the day everybody thinks they're special until they need to be careful climbing stairs.
Even though its good more fitness influencers are being honest about the gear, the problem is they never talk about the negative long term effects. I remember when Larry Wheels made his video talking about stopping his gear people just glossed over the small part where he mentioned he still was taking TRT (AKA...steroids...) because his body literally would no longer make testosterone. They just spent the whole time gushing over the fact that he was actually talking about his gear use. Its almost as though it has become normalized, which is what makes it so dangerous to younger people. They will always be less likely to worry about future consequences in favor of immediate benefits, especially in todays world where instant gratification has become the norm.
I would add that it really seems to be even more terrifying in the US than in Europe. Because here, it's already much harder to get. And above all, there are hundreds and hundreds of studies on the ( negative ) effects of steroids, and they're regularly broadcast on the news, radio, internet etc. I really get the feeling that Americans aren't interested in scientific studies and rely on "bro science".
Hey Jeff, I just subbed to your channel after following Dr. Mike & Athlean X. I'm 38 with no formal training and pretty much lead a sedentary lifestyle. I look forward to the challenges of natural training versus enhancements in the years to come. It's quite surprising to see how many people are coming out with admitting TRT use that have kept it secret for so long. Really appreciate your dedication to the community! Kudos to Mike and other special guests on this educational video as well!
You gotta give props to Jeff because even though he’s been struggling with feeling like he’s at his natural limit and smaller than other fitness influencers, he’s doubling down and working his ass off to really push his body to its limit. Inspirational stuff man

It hurts my soul to hear Dr Mike talk like this: very "out-of-breath"-like, small bursts of talking, short breaks, that tremor... I think in this particular video you can nearly feel the anxiety. How much worse it must feel for him, i can't comprehend... a very noticable difference to the usual
I was seriously thinking about doing steroids. I’m a bit late in the game (43yo) and I just feel what do is never enough. But I’ve chatted to many people and I get all confused about it, lots of Yes and No but this is the first time I totally made up my mind and I’ve decided not to do it. The older I get the more I appreciate my good health and my life. Thanks for this great video @jeffnippard !
Its never too late to start, itll be harder for you since you are older but not impossible, just keep it simple, stick to the basics and you will be leagues ahead of your peers in your age range
So... Are you gonna go watch the movies about how cardio can destroy your knees early, how streaming eats away at your brain, that includes RUclips (the 20 year IQ drop is about 3 times as high as before streaming, in other words significantly worse than the effects of SOME steroids), how much poisonous gas and particles we inhale everyday, how much sugar destroys our body and how much worse "light" products really are. Then add in something about the suns fantastic ability to give skin cancer. There, now you're scared of everything and will never do anything in your life again... Brillant comment...
There is absolutely no way I would ever do anything RUclipsrs warn about, which means I'll never go outside again or do anything ever! Man I love RUclips, bro science is da bomb
JFC... Oxygen is bad for you, so is water, so is literally everything in the world. Steroids are of course bad for you too, but just iwth literally everything else - its about moderation and management, and your attitude towards risk. This RUclipsr is a 'Natty' so his bias is of course shining through, even though he is 'talking about the GOOD as well as the bad'... except, he is really leaning into the bad and not the likelyhood of bad etc. Its a very "Steroids good, but also BAAD m'kay!"
As a woman, this is very similar to plastic surgery in the beauty world. A lot of women get praised for being 'transparent' about plastic surgery, which I get, but then that's also lead to a huge influx of plastic surgery operations. The side effects are much more rarely discussed, but the popularity increases on a daily basis, which then leads to increased feelings of dissatisfaction/body dysmorphia --> more surgery.
But cyber enhancements are right around the corner, so isn't it better we start talking about BOTH the good and bad sides? In this echo age, we're aren't even able to get challenged in our own believes, the algorithms are making sure of it. So if you choose to only inform about one side of whatever, the audience will by default be someone that agrees with you. Take Jeff here, his bias is certainly controlling this video, so it'll mostly be shown for like-minded. In terms of legit criticisms and actually starting a proper discussion, this video isn't delivering.

@JeffNippard physician here chiming in. I work in a specialty that I come across many patients young and old that have used or are now using anabolic steroids. I really appreciate that you bring to light some of these real concerns. I have spoken with colleagues about this paradoxical effect that increased honesty amongst influencers has had on steroid usage, and that complete honesty is still not achieved by just stating that they are taking steroids and sometimes specifics about cycles. Again, very much appreciated and keep up the good work!
There is no scientific evidence of any what he said in the video except that it makes your muscle grow (when you train) and that it has some affect to your hormones.
It seems like a paradox, but its how shaming and taboos work. The more you speak of something, doesnt matter if in a good or bad light, it will make it less scary thus more popular. It hurts to say but this video will get more people into steroids because most kids, not only cannot sit down and pay attention for 15 mins, they wont have the "fear" that previous generations had, because everyone talks about it. Its the taboo that kept most people off of steroids, not information factually showing why its bad. So now, at this point, you have to go full on "why steroids are bad" and make every parent teach to their kids, if you want a positive influence. Anything shorter than that, will end more kids
@@newme1589 The increased problem with steroids and some of the ratchet behavior with men and women is because of the many morons that give attention to "fitness influencers" that is leading to more problems. If you're going to take an upper, I beg all of you to take just regular pharmaceutical dexamphetamine (Amphetamine, speed). Not methamphetamine. Just amphetamine. It's not neurotoxic unless of course you overdose or take it chronically in highly sustained and highly repeated non therapeutic doses (all things are neurotoxic at some point, of course the ceiling is lower with neurologically active substances). However there IS A REASON that fighter pilots take this shit, there's a reason it's given to people with severe ADHD like myself, there's a reason test pilots, navy seals, the lunar landings
@@ShortKingofKings Or maybe the reason why we take amphetamines is to meet the unrealistic expectations and demands of modern work society that is unsustainable for humans and that is why we are developing mental health disorders such as ADHD at an exponential rate
My boyfriend went into heart failure and died when we were on our way to an oncologist for a consult about a 10cm mass on his kidney. Only after going through his things did I find that he had been using steroids (equipoise and tren) for the entire time that we had been dating. I miss him every day
I feel another thing you didn't quite mention but glossed over is the play in the psychological effects of steroids can have into the decision of taking them. The message you sent at the end is great, that many people aren't truly at their natural limits and aren't far enough into their lifting experience to consider enhancement wisely. But those same people, at least most of them, don't genuinely think they are at their natural limits anyway. Not everyone can dedicate the time and effort needed throughout diet and training to reach physiques they may want. And even more pervasive, not everyone actually has the motivation, the drive, or the mental stamina when they're already in the gym to give their all in the ways that count consistently. Steroids alongside "roid rage" and dramatically increased libido, have hormonal and psychological effects that will genuinely put you in the place to be motivated to train and to do it as hard as you can. That is a huge reason people FAR from their natural limits will still find it a good idea to take steroids, as an investment into their psychological capability of effort and motivation now while they are young. And this is one of the most concerning parts of the conversation. Once you're off cycle, not only will you lose the muscle you risked so much to gain but you also start to feel horrible. Incredibly low sex drive in your youth, no motivation, depression, preexisting problems with body image being magnified a 100 fold. This lays the entire fold out on a base for SERIOUS addiction. And that's barely scratching the surface of how steroid use tends to only increase because surprise surprise, body dysmorphia issues and the intent to do anything to fix them don't stop once you gained that ever evasive dozen or so pounds of muscle you dreamed of when you first started. The psychological conversation of steroids is at least in my opinion, the most concerning and important part of the conversation. Physical side effects like this are no where near concerning enough to young teenagers or young adults to keep away a set of drugs that otherwise promises them the world they dream of in their youth.
This is one of the best comments I've ever read on a fitness video and its so true. I feel like there's a major mindset adjustment that needs to happen for a lot of steroid users. Mental health (and by that I mean literally how you feel and approach life and your habits) is obviously tied into everything to a huge extent.
tbh I am well read in medicine to understand how steroids work and choose not to ever use them, but as for the natural limits, I don't think I have the drives to spend 4 hours at the gym everyday, it's just boring, I mean I am planning to keep up 2 hours ish 6-5 days a week but I think speak for most people when I say that 4 hours 7 days a week like most of the big gym people sounds hard ( maybe if you had someone to train with idk). It might be because I'm new and just getting into this, I am overweight and chose to try and do something about it. but some of the commitment for maximising natural gains sound a bit too much, it is okay to change you diet, but I don't think I can stand eating huge meals 5 times a day, that's just too much food. Maybe I am just clueless on what I said who knows, at least people on the internet make it sound rather hard to fix your body but least we can do is try and do something about it. but to go back to the pain point, I get it a lot of people don't know how steroids work and see it as an easy way to improve their body not realising that it might not give them the same effects and they basically burn through their cell regenerations hence why they age faster. Not to mention certain muscles we won't want to grow end up growing for example the heart.
I don't think it's that linear. That's when comparing the first year alone, I believe the creatine gains are kinda flat (as in it's not a 2pound/year again) while PEDs keep adding up year after year (albeit less and less each time)
There is a video on his channel dedicated to the side effects of PEDs, well worth a watch! The way this was cut, colour graded and underlaid with sad music made it seem a little more weepy than Mike intended, see his own comment above. But anyways, I agree that him being to the point and honest about the side effects is very valuable.

Good clip! I am 49 years old, I work out everyday, not lifting everyday, but som kind of training everyday. I have never taken steroids, not even suplements - basic training and I eat normal. I've been working out all my life, first sports and when I stopped doing gym and cardio. Of course, I've always thought, why not take a shortcut, but I've never done it - I haven't dared and I've always thought that there are consequences later in life. Now I'm later in life, I have good muscle mass and good mobility, whereas those who took steroids when we were younger have lots of health problems. They get sick easily, I hardly ever get sick - about once every three years, they feel tired, I have energy - they can't run, I can run, they can't sleep well, I sleep like I always did, they have different symptoms with the body that they don't know what they are, I don't feel anything like that. Life is long and you train to be able to be alert, awake and enjoy life for real and not for social media. All my friends who trained like me, we live a better life than those who took steroids - much better. But of course, they were fit on the beach for a few years and now they live in constant health fear. It's not worth it, train, eat, sleep, repeat. Nothing more is needed.
This. The reason people go awry is because they're too worried for nothing. No matter who you are, if you train, eat, sleep properly for 10 years, you WILL get jacked and strong and athletic. No one has genetics that doom them to eternal weakness.

Good on you, Nippard, for admitting your gear “ponderings”. It’s a bird that flies over my head about once a week. What keeps the urge at bay is I’d have to be on TRT the rest of my life, and for me, that’s the biggest deterrent. Being healthy and taking my body to its potential while taking care of it has always been the goal. Thank you for the transparency and the on point content as always
I had to go on TRT anyway, no gear. 30 years old testosterone was 255 ng/dl. By 38 it was 150 ng/dl with some pretty severe side effects. Doctors couldn’t find a reason for it to be that low. I now take .18 ml injection twice a week, and my testosterone level last checked was 480 ng/dl, about normal and no more symptoms of low testosterone.
I respect Dr. Mike and his honesty. With so much misinformation out there, it’s refreshing to say the least. I’m appreciative that he got so vulnerable. Thanks for compiling this Jeff.
I’m 46 years old and I remember being in my teens and looking up to Arnold and the entire Golden Era of bodybuilding. I was so naive and didn’t know they used steroids (I was only 15 yrs old) and it was so hard to get access let alone know anyone who sold steroids. Now, with the impact of social media anything and everything is so accessible to very young kids. Influencers should definitely be held accountable for their followers and let them know what’s safe and what’s dangerous and risky. Thank you for always sharing your thoughts and opinions, and a great deal of information about this topic.
I just wanted to let you know how helpful and useful this video was for me. As a 14 year old teen that has been lifting for around a year and a half now steroids have been a very confusing topic for me because of how many influencers use steroids now and aren’t honest about it. it’s hard to set realistic standards nowadays because of this issue and I’ve struggled to set realistic goals on my weightlifting journey because of this. This video also helped me understand what steroids do and the pros and cons of them. Thank you for everything you have done for the fitness community and please keep keeping on because with all these amazing videos I think you have become one of my favorite people to watch. Thanks
Bro, you’re 14. You shouldn’t have even been thinking about doing gear in the first place, because you don’t need it at your age. Maybe when you’re in your 40s you’ll benefit from it, but until you hit that age, your test levels will be naturally high, so you will make gains, especially in your late teens to mid 20s. Gear also makes you infertile while you’re on it, so if you want to have a family somewhere down the line, it’s best not to do gear.
You're 14 ffs. Don't go near any gear. Not only will it have debilitating health effects it won't actually make much difference to you. Because you're 14...
Your comment shows a level headed young man, whoever helped you get to where you are should be proud. I can't imagine how hard it would be growing up in the modern age with so much conflicting information at your disposal. But judging by your comment, I think you'll make good choices in your life, as the key is to fully evaluate your significant life choices. As someone who has made all manner of good and bad decisions throughout my life, I can say that what is ultimately important is longevity. Focus your goals on being able to be as mobile as possible so that you can enjoy life for as long as possible and get the most out of it. Being huge isn't necessarily best for your health in the long run, I think calisthenics is really the best way to go. But whatever you do and however you train, best of luck for the future.

This is the most candid and most transparent video I have ever seen on a prevalent issue that has gone unspoken in length with the fitness industry. Awesome job, Jeff! Also, I have so much respect for Mike. You guys rock.
Jeff, this video is an absolute game-changer! As someone who's been lifting for over 10 years, the constant pressure to hop on gear has always been there. Seeing someone with your influence take such a balanced and informative approach to this topic is incredibly refreshing. It really emphasizes the importance of staying natural and focusing on long-term health. Your dedication and transparency are truly inspiring. Keep up the fantastic work! 💪
constant pressure to get on gear? who do YOU hang out with? steroids would have to be the biggest secret people keep but people are pressuring you to take them? what BS., you're talking about giving in to your ego and probably want that pat on the back nobody has given you for being " so strong "
@@zake64 Zionism, climate change and steroids are topics filled with agenda/bias. The masses don't think critically and are influenced by all this manipulative propaganda. They can't separate the important facts from the unimportant ones. Four cosmetic side effects of Testosterone should NOT be listed next to life threatening possible side effects. That's mind manipulation created to motivate young cosmetic obsessed people from even considering steroids. The "authorities" all do it. I see straight through it now because I studied it.
Thanks for making this very important video, Jeff. I've always respected you and your work, but this brings it up a level. I know you're trying to notch up your discipline and that is honorable. I just hope what you see in the mirror is as awesome as what I see in your videos. 👍🏼 Great choice bringing Mike on to interview. He's good people.
I used a "TRT" mini cycle a few years ago and something that wasn't mentioned but worth noting in my case is that if you suffer from depression it probably isn't smart to do this. Steroids may cause anxiety dose dependently but they also make you feel more confident, they make you feel powerful and like you're in control. It 100% cured my depression while I used them, that said nothing since then has ever made me feel that way again. I long for that feeling more than I do to get bigger, unless you're willing to commit for life just don't do it yet. Committing for life also means accepting you probably won't have kids since you'll always be cruising it, so either be okay with that or prepare at a "milk" bank so you still can. Personally I plan to wait until I've had a family and don't want more kids before getting back on permanently.
There's TGT (Total Hormone Therapy) which adds an every other day pill which keeps your balls turned on. Doing a TRT/TGT under doctor supervison with a prescription... Test, estrogen blocker, & one to keep your balls active from a prescription under doctors supervison with blood work every 3 months. In a year on it the doctor has had to reduce my dosage twice as i went well above the 1000 mark

I never leave comments, but its so nice to see someone be honest about steroid use. Thx for the clip! And Dr Mike is awesome, his honesty is relieving.
I've been dealing with anxiety for a few years, although not because of steroids. I would like to ask the comment section to have more empathy for Dr. Mike. Calling him a drug addict and saying this is his own fault isn't necessary. Most people probably can't relate but anxiety can really be the worst thing in the world. Just the fucking worst. I salute him from being open about it and wish him the best.
I have a very bad anxiety disorder left from drug use (not steroids). I used to take benzos for 10 years, but I stopped because I don't want to use anything anymore. I have an understanding for everyone who suffers from this and I don't judge anyone
Anxiety is horrific but he’s choosing it, it makes no damn sense to me that you could ever want to do that to yourself but that goes back to this is clearly an addiction for him and I hope he gets a handle on it soon.
to me, a lifter of 15 years, the point of lifting is to stay younger for longer; I've never used gear, but have experimented with "testosterone boosters" like DAA (still currently take it). In my early 20's, it was to become the biggest, baddest, strongest dude that everyone respects, but as I matured I realize that was just me compensating for my inferiority complex I had. Now it's all about health, both physical and mental.
This is an amazing video. I am 20 in September; have been lifting for a few years. Recently started increasing the intensity of my gym sessions and focusing on a proper diet. I have already started noticing faster gains. I often get compliments of my friends who do not lift that I am ‘wham’, needless to say when I’m in the gym I feel small. So many people do steroids now it takes away from the people who put in even more effort naturally… I am always debating if I should start a cycle. You have made me realise I am on the right path. The journey might be harder, slower and more painful but in the end it will be worth it. The gym is about getting healthy, not becoming unhealthy to have big guns. Don’t take steroids people!
It is your choice. For instance I started at age 37 after years of research to see the true risks... But yes, you can choose to "have big guns" lol. But I found at my age, muscle wasn't the most extreme benefit, decreased depression and enhanced mood, increased energy and less need for sleep, libido of a teenager, extreme confidence, those were much more noticeable than some popping veins or big guns... Of course the physique change got me alot of attention and compliments and turns heads.
Start the cycle if you want to look like an absolute fkn freak show, with a physique that makes you look like tumours are popping out your body, and that the vast majority of women are repulsed by.
14:05 Dude you're huge. Sometimes I feel like what's the point of working out if everyone who I'd aspire to look like is on gear but seeing you gives me hope.
Up till this video I was certain he was on steroids and now I'm wondering if I'm actually wrong or he's trying to discourage the use of steroids by saying he's not on them.
Nippard is on PEDs. "But he has such an innocent face!". Someone on steroids: "But he's not even that big!". "Yo, he's quite short, short guys look bigger". He's on PEDs. He is a liar. And lying about something like that and making your whole online identity about being natty, casts everything else he says into doubt. This isn't jealousy, this isn't cope. His pretending to be natty, while using, is his marketing strategy. Like you say, you look at him, and buy the bullshit. He sells you hope. That hope is horseshit.
I had a friend who took a bunch of steroids and ended up going to the ER four times over the next two months thinking he was dying. Every time he went, the hospital told him it was just anxiety. There are so many expressions of "strength" worth pursuing, would love to see a movement of strong lifters who also build strong families, strong marriages, strong careers, strong friendships, and shoot, strong relationships with God too. That's my angle! Great video Jeff!
Yeah, the longer I explore this space the less captivated I am by my initial pursuit of physical size and strength. I’m learning to be content with what I already have.
I abused steroids in my 20s for about 3 years straight, blast and cruise, never cycled off. When I finally decided it wasn’t worth it, there had already been some permanent damage. Within months I experienced severe mental health problems. I couldn’t focus on anything, was overwhelmed by anxiety most of the time, and lost any ambition to accomplish anything. Eventually I sought help, and tried anti depressants, anti anxiety meds, and even ADHD medication. While these drugs certainly did something, they didn’t treat the underlying issue, and their effects lost potency over time. Eventually, I was encouraged by a friend to check my test levels. I was 33 at the time, and my test was 302 ng. While this is technically within normal range (barely) I was still encouraged by my dr to try TRT and see how I respond. I feel normal now. Very grateful for TRT.
@@nickps2251he did not but even if u do, steroids cause permanent damage to your organs and have side effects u can see as well like female breast tissue
Methyl 1 Testosterone was LEGALLY sold in GNC when I was in high school. Around 2005 I hopped on my first cycle around the age of 15. Man it was amazing, felt like superman and had amazing gains that I kept my whole life, but I certainly crashed hard coming off and of course I didn't use PCT. Even though I managed to keep most of my gains and continued to train hard...psychologically it took a toll. I was and have always been more aggressive and it ruined relationships and friendships over the course of my life. I am way more chill now in my 30s, and keep myself and emotions under control but the feeling inside still amps up at times like when I was on the stuff back in the day.
ZERO STEROIDS for me!! One study talked about the deaths, one needs to be done on the quality of life. Flex, Colman, etc. are so messed up! I almost did it, I came along with Flex and I used to workout with one of Lee Haney’s guys, but now I am soooo glad that I did not shoot up!!🙏🏾
Stay natty, Jeff! You’re already jacked and we need heroes who maintain their sanity. You look great man, don’t get greedy and sell yourself out. You don’t have to be a crusader, but there are reasons you haven’t injected yet. And if you’re worried about not keeping up with the other influencers, just remember that there’s already 1000 jacked steroid users fighting for those clicks. How many natty’s are on your level? Very few. It’s important work you’re doing, imo.
I'm 45 now. Haven't been at all serious or consistent though I do pride myself on doing things "correctly" and using science as much as possible. Busy life makes consistency difficult and lots of work injuries. I had been seriously contemplating some form of peds. I knew the side effects but having Dr Mikes take on the anxiety and aggression made this a moot point for me. Great video as always. You've consistently helped me in my journeys and I hope you continue to do so. Staying chubby is going to be the choice over any kind of peds. (no thyroid here, so not all fitness journeys are the same) Again. Thanks a lot and thanks to your guests. It's important to go in with your eyes open.
One of the best, most thorough, and most responsible videos I’ve ever seen on the topic of steroids. I’ve always been aware of the negatives to using PEDs, which is why I decided a long time ago to never touch the stuff, as I want to live as long and healthy a life as possible…but I can see how people who don’t focus on their longevity or who value the quick short term gains over the many potential health and lifestyle risks can decide to use PEDs. More people need to watch this video, as education is everything on this topic. 💪
I agree. I find it worrying for the target audience of many of these bodybuilding influencers, the young teenagers and early 20 year old guys (and maybe gals?). When you are young you think you are invincible and that you are the exception and the negative effects won't apply to you. And body dysphoria is a really problem in that age group as well. With girls it used to be the thing above everything (anorexia). And now for boys it is the muscles (for girls as well, although I find it actually positive for women to be strong. The beauty standards for women is to be thin and weak. Too long have we heard you get "bulky " if you lift a bit of heavier weights. All not true. I just worry that everything will go into the extremes as well for girls.)
Much respect to you Jeff and for Dr. Mikes humility. I have always appreciated dr. Mike and his perspective despite my complete lack of interest in PEDs. I pray you retain your health sir.
Great video! As important as this subject is and how well treated, am I the only one fascinated by the editing of the conversation with Dr. Mike as evidenced by the clock (which was not from 2-3 lol)?
Dialling nutrition up to 11 entirely changed my body more than I expected after 3 years of serious lifting, I went from being at good-nutrition 80% of the time to great-nutrition 90% of the time, hitting macros 28+ days out of 30, eating a fistload of veggies every day, and keeping my calories at about 100-200 above maintenance, takes more effort than working out tbh. Worth it.
@@WolfNRaven There's a recent Kurzgesagt video about the side effects of smoking cigarettes that is titled "Smoking is Awesome," and the video clearly explains the benefits and downsides of smoking. My uncle was a bodybuilder in his youth making heavy use of steroids, stopped for his 30s and got back into it in his 40s and hit the steroids heavy. He won a local competition at 46 and was dead of heart failure at 54.
"The problem with steroids, is that they work." I love that. As an alcoholic who has strung together almost 5 years' worth of consecutive days of sobriety i see no use in lying to myself or anyone else regarding my past, present, and what I hope for the future. One of the things that keeps the sick staying sick is how much you'll justify, minimalize, exaggerate and ignore for the sole purpose of shifting blame and spare your conscience of wrongdoing. And I'm not going to use the same tactics of lying to myself that kept me sick, to try and feign recovery. Look, I LOVE alcohol, more than ANYTHING, and that's exactly why I can't drink it anymore.

Yeah you don't need PEDs to have a good body. People who think you can't get a good body naturally are obviously people who've never worked out in their lives. Just eat healthy and work out, it's literally that simple. People just lack discipline and motivation so they claim you can't do it as a coping mechanism.
That's awesome. Guys be nice to him 😭
Hell yea !
So benefits of steroids:
- get bigger muscles
The downsides:
- acne
- small balls that stop producing your own testosterone
- baldness
- abscess risk
- anxiety, random rage, constant high libido
- man-boobs
- higher risk for heart failure
- lower IQ, older Brain
- when taken at a young age you might stop growing in height and mentally
Is this worth it?

Exactly where are my muscles…?
You're a natural steroid user.

I feel you bro! Bald gang represent!
Lol I don't wanna compare it to video game cheating but it basically is
really good analogy, puts it in a much easier to visualize perspective
They’ll know a few years after getting the safe & effective.
Yep. Former roid user. Quit when I had a BP 191/104. Think it wouldn't happen to me but the vanity wasn't worth it.

I would add that it really seems to be even more terrifying in the US than in Europe. Because here, it's already much harder to get.

Dude wtf
Great comment, a lot of helpful insights. There’s enough here for Jeff to do a whole video about.
This is one of the best comments I've ever read on a fitness video and its so true. I feel like there's a major mindset adjustment that needs to happen for a lot of steroid users.
Mental health (and by that I mean literally how you feel and approach life and your habits) is obviously tied into everything to a huge extent.
Amazing comment bro ❤
tbh I am well read in medicine to understand how steroids work and choose not to ever use them, but as for the natural limits, I don't think I have the drives to spend 4 hours at the gym everyday, it's just boring, I mean I am planning to keep up 2 hours ish 6-5 days a week but I think speak for most people when I say that 4 hours 7 days a week like most of the big gym people sounds hard ( maybe if you had someone to train with idk).
There is no natural limit.
0:33 this just made me think creatine is sick. 1/10th the gains of steriods for no risk.
the problem is it will slow down as much or more than your natural gains
I don't think it's that linear. That's when comparing the first year alone, I believe the creatine gains are kinda flat (as in it's not a 2pound/year again) while PEDs keep adding up year after year (albeit less and less each time)

You’re 14 dude. Just stay off social media and you’ll win

He's choosing to be anxious. He's choosing to take drugs that cause his anxiety.
He's absolutely a drug addict

Sooo many people I know claim they have anxiety issues and have a huge Starbucks coffee in the morning@@lovablesnowman
to me, a lifter of 15 years, the point of lifting is to stay younger for longer; I've never used gear, but have experimented with "testosterone boosters" like DAA (still currently take it).

Trade off:
- Bigger muscles
For:
- Inflated heart
- Shrunken balls
- Shorter height (if you start early)
- Breast tissue (???)
- Anxiety and panic disorder
- Injury Risk
- Baldness
- Lower IQ and an aged brain (dementia risk)
- Acne
Yeah bro. Hard decision
eh worth it
Idk bro that’s a lot of positives
Does the lower IQ come before steroids or after? Its hard to tell with the gear heads I've known.

@@beantea5592 if you really think he is clean maybe it is time for you to do more research about steroids
I'd say don't compare yourself to others. Just because one person can look a certain way naturally, doesn't mean anyone can.
If not sarcasm - hopefully that's a short-lived hope.. Don't be fooled.
I know three people that used steroids: two of them are dead, the third is bankrupt and divorced.
That's insane. Did they die from health related steroid complications or?
Damn it just shows how bad steroids are 4:58
I can't thank you enough for making such a professional, well-put-together video on this topic. I think that this video could save lives.
Thanks for the honesty Dr. Mike, hope things get better for you.
These youtubers saying they are natural not on roids is pure cringe.
Did u PCT
Happy you’re good. Do you still gym? Or exercise?
@@nickps2251 Yep. But it was all underground stuff

I almost did it, I came along with Flex and I used to workout with one of Lee Haney’s guys, but now I am soooo glad that I did not shoot up!!🙏🏾
plus the huge issue of your self esteem when you come off steroids, which you will eventually....

Well, you look fkin amazing so you did everything right
Much respect to you Jeff and for Dr. Mikes humility. I have always appreciated dr. Mike and his perspective despite my complete lack of interest in PEDs. I pray you retain your health sir.
Praying for you Dr. Mike for freedom from your anxiety

Worth it.
Congratulations bro, nutrition is easily the hardest part of lifting. Most people have an appetite that isn't quite optimized for their goals
Is this title inspired by Kurzgesagt? lol
lol
Smoking is awesome.
Can you elaborate?
@@WolfNRaven There's a recent Kurzgesagt video about the side effects of smoking cigarettes that is titled "Smoking is Awesome," and the video clearly explains the benefits and downsides of smoking. It's a very objective video and makes it clear that there are benefits to smoking, but also make it very clear just how not worth it the benefits are given how bad the downsides are. Seems similar to this video from Jeff (so far, I'm only a few minutes in)
@@xJustForKiicks oh ok. Lol
Look, I LOVE alcohol, more than ANYTHING, and that's exactly why I can't drink it anymore.
the problem with any substance usage is: It's really fun, till it ain't. good that you understand your problem as actually having a choice.
Respect for the transparency in this video. I wish it was more common to discuss this.
Me: Recommends Jeff Nippard to everyone, including my family, because I consider him to be one of the best ,most responsible and knowledgeable fitness influencers.
