James Blunt is far from being a one-hit wonder. He's had a few albums & a few singles that were international top ten hits.
Gotye and Kimbra should be on this list. SOULJA BOY?! HOOBASTANK?! ARE YOU SERIOUS?! HOW ARE THEY ONE HIT WONDERS?!
Vanessa Carlton.
I've been on team Vanessa Carlton since 2002.
Vanessa
I don't see Gotye on the list
10.daniel power 0:31
9.soft cell 1:30
8.hoobastank 2:27
7.donna Lewis 3:27
6.tag team 4:25
5.esstele 5:16
4.vannesa carlten 6:18
3.owl City 7:18
2.solja boy 8:16

Hoobastank and Donna Lewis are arguably NOT 1 hit wonders, but that's how these lists go right?
Imagine being a “one hit wonder” with multiple hits….
Watch mojo doesn't know what a one hit wonder is 🤣
Soulja Boi
Yes like owl city
"A Thousand Miles" will forever be my jam, I have fond memories of watching Terry Crews croon along to it in "White Chicks!" I'm happy that Vanessa Carlton is doing well for herself.
That song was all over the radio the summer my husband left, and it’s so gorgeous I just leaned into it during the grieving process.
The bangs/fringe were a bad choice in the thumbnail photo 😩
It's great to see these musicians didn't let Top 40 dictate their careers because are they making music to be true Artists that believe in their artistic expression or are they slaves to musically trends to keep them on the radio.
One hit artist who refused to sell their souls to the industry. That’s why most major artist go “ crazy “.
they just don't get another hit, it's not that deep..
@@silly_hue-wheat thank god someone else pointed that out
@@silly_hue-wheat lol sheep will be sheep.
They’ll give you a taste of fame and if you refuse to further your career they simply drop you. Correct me if I’m wrong, but most celebrities at some point go “crazy”.
@@XCVi_MAC Majority of so-called "one-hit wonders" don't go "crazy". If anything, they continue performing or working with other artists, like the guy from the group who sang "Closing Time". He won a Grammy for working on Adele's "21"
How exactly does James Blunt qualify as a one-hit wonder? Must be a US thing, as he was massively successful here in Europe even if "You're beautiful" remains his only #1 hit in the UK and US. However he sold more than 6 million albums after Back to Bedlam and had #1 hits in other European countries such as Germany, Switzerland and Austria. The three following albums after "Back to Bedlam" were all #1 albums again in various constellations in the UK, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Canada and France.
Yeah, it’s definitely a US thing - I would imagine there are US bands that are considered a one hit wonder in the UK.
I mean, Blur is considered a one hit wonder in the US.
I came here to see. I don't know Blunt's music that well but was pretty sure he has more than one hit "Wiseman" was a hit. I live in the USA as well. I wouldn't call Blur a one hit wonder either even in the States
James Blunt’s had heaps of hits here in Australia. Definitely not a one hit wonder! 👍👍
As an American I really liked "1973". It would have been a better "one-hit" than that sappy commercial love-ballad "You're Beautiful" (I think J Blunt himself hates the song, too)... Radio was saturated with corporate love ballads by that time and it was getting tiresome.
Well I don’t think it’s an American thing, I think it’s a WatchMojo thing, because they also put Hoobastank on here that had pretty popular songs such as “Crawling in the Dark” “Out of Control” “Running Away” as well as putting Owl City on here and then even pointing out they had popular hits after “Fireflies”. I just think WatchMojo doesn’t know what “One Hit Wonder” means
My favorite song from Owl City has always been "If my Heart was a House." That's a beautiful love song that sticks with me even today. I never understood why that song didn't get more attention.
And vanilla twilight 👌
I love unbelievable with hanson
So many songs by other artists too never get the attention that they deserve. For example, Edwin McCain's "I'll Be" is not his best song but it's the only one you'll ever hear on the radio, so I get what you mean. 🙄 Sad that this happens.
Don’t know if I’d call James Blunt a one hit wonder. 1973 was a huge hit off his second album.
I don't know that I would call what he has hits. I would be tempted to add an extra s to the front of that word.
The disrespect to Soulja boy is wild. My man got at least 4/5 hits
I'm glad that these artists are still performing and doing what they love, even if they're not currently in the limelight. 💞
I've never really liked the title of "one-hit wonder" because a lot of artists tend to have some really good songs that still do well, but just were overshadowed by their major hit. Estelle had a song called "Thank You" that did really well on the r&b charts for months. Vanessa Carlton had the song "Ordinary Day" that was another really good song.
Yeah, I thought of hoobastank. Crawling in the dark, anyone? Damn good song
@@alyssarivera7982 I thought the same thing. That was the better song to me.
I do believe that the term “one hit wonder” is overused, but Vanessa Carlton pretty much embodies the definition of “one hit wonder”. No one was playing “Ordinary Day” when it came out, except for maybe MTV.
Vanessa Carlton is an incredible song writer, Harmonium is an amazing album
Harmonium is one of my favorites!! So f underrated
I love Vanessa Carlton!!! I have her album on my playlists!!!
Heroes & Thieves ❤
@@radicaldreamerkid1 yes!!! On repeat!!!
Yes, the latest album LOVE IS AN ART, just WOW.. I Can't stop listening to the full album
One Hit wonders must mean something different in America. Cos further albums and singles means a career to me. One hit wonders are solo songs and that's it.
Its artist who had one popular hit on the charts
'further albums and singles" do not equal hits.. in America.
Yea, I wouldn't exactly call Owl City a "one-hit wonder". One solo hit with Fireflies, sure. But I'd argue Good Time with Carly-Rae Jepsen got him out of being a OHW. I mean, if he's still technically a OHW with that, then Carly-Rae would also technically be a OHW with Call Me Maybe. And by that logic, she's still touring and has developed a pretty strong following as well.
Owl City has arguably had three hits, "Fireflies" "Good Time" and "When Can I See You Again?"
Back when
"Now that's what i call music."
Was relevant.
Funny how Soulja Boi's in the list when he had at least 3 hits. Kiss me thru the phone and Turn my swag on was the ish when it came out.
Pretty boy swag was a hit too
SHE MAKE IT CLAP CLAP CLAP!!!!
Yeah but but none are as well known as crank DAT Superman.
@@iraford5788that’s irrelevant
@@iraford5788 One(1) hit wonders. If he has more than one hit then... You already know what I meant.
One of my all time favorite one hit wonder is Afroman "then I got high" and he's also still active, that man never stopped making fun music.
And he just made a video from footage of a police raid hitting his house looking for a kidnapping, which yield no results. He made a follow up from that footage of a Lemon Pie that an officer was thinking about stealing
not a one hit wonder coz he also had the hit Colt 45
For me, my favourite "one hit wonder" is Natalie Imbruglia. Everybody knows her because of Torn (don't get me wrong, I love this song since I was 7 years old), but the amount of good songs she has realesed throughout her career.?! 😲 Her music is the kinda pop music I love.
Soulja boy being considered a one hit wonder is like considering Adele a one hit wonder. For context: He has sold more and had more billboard songs in a shorter time
Vanessa Carlton is and has always been PURE CLASS ✨
Soulja boy is not a one hit wonder
That's what I'm saying but you can't tell white people that
@@timothygallon9772 White people still think Britney Spears is killin’ it. 😂
@@timothygallon9772 I’m white but I felt a tan listening to this dense disrespectful f***er.
@@chucke.cheese2212 your so right about that but there usually like 5 to 10 years behind on trends and music. I got alot of white friends who come to me all the times trying to put on something new but fail realize what there trying to put me on is 6 years past it times
Hell nah they called Hoobastank one hit wonders 💀
Uh James Blunt also had the classic meme song
GOODBYE MY LOVER GOODBYE MY FRIEND
Eagle Eye Cherry, Save Tonight defined an era. And damn that musicvideo was amazingly done!
I remember watching a Runescape music video of that song made by XGen2004. Wonder where he is now.
@@zoomtzt Eagle eye cherry? He still makes music
@@patrikdanheimer1504 Nope I mean Xgen2004. Was an avid watcher back in the day.
Still having fun was better than save tonight
I love the version “Scoop There It is”!!🎼🍦
How is Soulja Boy a one hit wonder? He has mad hits 🤨
Exactly. He had 5 Top 40 songs.
Yeah that was the one I didn’t agree with. Kiss Me Through The Phone and Turn My Swag On we’re pretty big hits
You gotta remember who makes these videos😂
@@darcobritt1907 mane you right 😂
Random fact about James Blunt, he served in the army alongside Bear Grylls
I don't see how Tag Team isn't still around when "Whoomp There It Is" was a smash in the 90's
Is Hoobastank really a one hit wonder? The reason was their biggest hit, but I remember other singles getting them attention, like crawling in the dark, and same direction.
No.
They're at least a 3 hit wonder. Crawling In the dark hit #3 on rock charts, Running Away hit #2. Remember me was the one that didn't go far. The Reason was on another album, and bigger. But they're technically a 3 hit wonder. This video didn't do homework.
Estelle is so underrated
Most provably earned tons of money and now can make music without the pressure of a label or market.
Not a fan, but Soulja Boy isn’t a “one hit wonder”. “She Make It Clap” was global!
Owl City has arguably had three hits, "Fireflies" "Good Time" and "When Can I See You Again?"
There are other good songs from them too
-vanilla twilight
-hot air balloon
-rainbow veins
-hello seatle
-alligator sky
Owl city has made a small comeback with a collab with Armin van Buuren & Gareth Emery
Owl City has arguably had three hits, "Fireflies" "Good Time" and "When Can I See You Again?"
i'm pretty sure soulja boy had 2 hits, i remember actually liking the second one cause i was an Over the road truck driver and my wife introduced me to it, "kiss me through the phone"
Owl City is not one hit wonder in my heart 😭
Yall disrespectful for putting Soulja on this list , like he still dont got motion
Donna Lewis' second album has one of the most haunting songs called Blue Planet.
None of these names surprise me that they are considered one hot wonders or that they're still around. If you live within your means, play nice enough with your fans and the the industry in general, and can find that ubiquitous moment, you can stick for a long time. There is so much music between live events and streaming now days, that once you get famous, you can usually find a way to parlay it into a sustainable career.
What would be ever more shocking to people is the large amount of artists and bands that have successful lucrative careers and would be considered no hit wonders, meaning most people have NEVER heard of them or their music.
In 2006 i could not stop listening to james blunt songs during my college years, i kept singing you're beautiful every morning everytime I walk to the campus....
Owl City has many great Songs
I think we have to talk about what a one hit wonder is. Idk if having more than one top 50 song or even top 10 song in the case of at least Owl City and Soulja Boy truly is one.
Had never heard Waters of march until right now, that's actually pretty amazing.
Pretty sure before “the reason” hoobastank had at least two hits with crawling in the dark and running away. So I mean… 3 hit wonder?
I actually think those songs are only popular in the alternative rock scene, they didn’t make worldwide chart topping success, lol. But they were really good though.
unaffected
Hoobastank is considered a one hit wonder? That’s news to me.
You forgot to mention that Marc Almond (Soft Cell) has a solo career.
My five-year-old son just yelled at me and told me to turn this off and turn on metal. He’s a fan of Black Sabbath and some GWAR at least the appropriate stuff. Yes, it’s true. I have a really cool kid.
Yes ozzy done ok pity he lost his brain on the way
Thanks for the Video 😀
I'm glad that these artists are still active to this day.
Crawling in the dark was hoobstank first hit single then the reason.
They definitely don't count as one hit wonders
This was great. You can do another one or two of these. There are so many.
Hey, speaking of one-hit wonders, anybody remember Sheppard? I revisited “Geronimo” just yesterday - still a banger. But I also saw they released two more albums since their debut: in fact, their most recent one just came out last year. Good for them. 😄
I've never heard about half of these songs and I'm in my 40s. Then again, a lot of it isn't the type of music I listen to.
American Boy is one of my favorite songs ever.
Doing something you love is a win, regardless of how many people like you.
Somebody you use to know should be number 1
A Thousand Miles
Then: Vanessa Carlton
Now: Terry Crews
tATu was a one hit wonder in the US for their debut song "All The Things She Said" in 2002 where they were known for being the 2 Russian teens kissing in the rain in school girl outfits.
After that they sort of faded away here. But they were still huge in Asia , South America, and Europe. They had 3 studio albums in English, 3 in Russian. Lena (the redhead) had 3 more studio albums solo. 1 in English, 1 in both English & Russian , & 1 in Spanish. She also had a live album. Julia (the brunette) had a lot of health issues so she stopped for a while after 2011, and then she did some singles in English and Russian and now does something in politics (idk). They both came back together to perform at the Sochi Olympics and I think they are doing something together again this year.
They should be on this list.
Agreed
tATu are not one hit wonders they also had a hits called Its All About Us and Not Gunna Get Us
@@ajsgaming83 Not in the United States. Not Gonna Get Us attempted to make a hit in the US but it never did. They even tried by performing it at the MTV movie awards but it never made "hit" status. And All About Us , though recorded and filmed in California was never marketed towards an American audience. So for the United States they are considered a One Hit Wonder since that is their only hit here.
@Christina-M
Tatu hit #1 on the dance charts with Not Gonna Get Us. All the things she said peaked at 20 on hot 100. The title track off all about us didn't even break top 10 on the dance charts. But when talking about a pre streaming music environment (everyone was pirating it if they heard it on the radio or saw the music video) those genre charts tell a bigger picture. And it was trackable, unlike tiktok blink and you missed it trends now.
I will say that All about Us was not a solid album, even as joke background noise.
@@reverendrevolver6341 All About Us wasn't an album. It was a song by the Veronicas that tATu did a cover of. It was the first song of their second album "Dangerous and Moving". The reason that album sounds awful is because one of the girls , Julia, had throat cancer and when they removed the tumor it damaged her vocal cords.
All the things She Said was a cultural phenomenon at the time because everyone was freaking out about 2 Russian teen girls in catholic school girl outfits kissing in the rain. The song may not have peeked as high as Not Gonna Get Us but more people know ATTSS over NGGU due to the cultural impact at the time it was released.
Gary Numan is known for one song--"Cars"--but is currently making the best music of his life.
A thousand miles is not just a "one hit wonder", it's a classic. Still one of my favorite song.
James Blunt? Soldier Boy? Owl City? One hit wonder? are you kidding me!
I love Vanessa Carlton's Harmonium album
Owl City had more than one hit, so I wouldn’t classify Adam as a ‘One Hit Wonder’
Owl City has arguably had three hits, "Fireflies" "Good Time" and "When Can I See You Again?"
\
Doesn't really sound like Tag Team is "active", but more like they reunite every now and then to perform their hit song
Strange that you didn't include Gary Numan, a one-hit wonder (outside of the UK) that single-handedly popularized New Wave music with his worldwide hit "Cars". He's now been recording and releasing albums for nearly 45 years and has 22 albums, and still tours all over North America and Western Europe.
just because you guys heard only one song of the said artists, it doesn’t make them one-hit wonders. calling James Blunt a one-hit wonder is ignorance personified!
My favorite song by Hoobastank is not the Reason, it's Same Direction. I found it on spotify and it really speaks to me.
I love Soft Cell, Donna Lewis, Tag Team and Vanessa Carlton. The one act I never heard of on here is Estelle.
Who remembers when Hoobastank used to be Hoobustank, big difference in sound when they dropped the "U". They also had multiple hit singles xD.
I Love Owl City! Something about their music just puts me in a great mood
“It’s always a good time!”
I love Daniel Powter. Bad Day is such a great song. It's one that everyone can relate to. 😊
Actually enjoy all these songs. I can place myself somewhere in time with each of these songs, therefore, helping create great memories. 😊
Hoobastank is absolutely NOT a one hit wonder. The Reason is their second album. You even mintion their self-titled first album that reached number 1 on the US Heatseekers Albums and 25 on the Billboard 200 and 8 on the UK Rock & Metal Albums. Their first single Crawling in the Dark was at the time just as popular and played as The Reason. It reached 7 on the US Mainstream Rock, 3 on US Alternative Airplay, and 4 on UK Rock & Metal. So take it from someone who lived through it and was into the genre at the time. The band is not a one hit wonder.
I think Nickelback is qualified as a one-hit wonder, because the band is famous for their song How You Remind Me. Since then, they have been singing the same songs that never achieved success as this song.
Where is Rebbeca Black!?
Blunt's comment about the Rolling Stones makes him #1 in another category too 😂
Owl City is not a one hit wonder please. 😐
Most of these remind me of my CVS working days with crappy radio music.
Hanson is another band considered to be a one hit wonder and they are still active...their more recent stuff is full of indie vibes and I love hearing their growth throughout the years
Not necessarily, they had 3 top 20 singles in the US & 8 in the uk. Hardly one hit wonders, more like one hit albums.
Soft Cell + Pet Shop boys........add Eurythmics to the equation and I can't resist going lol
YES! James Blunt is my favorite artist of all time!
Soulja boy is not a one hit wonder there were more songs he released at the time that caught a lot of attention in the Soulja boy scene, “kiss me thru the phone” is another example
Hoobstank had more hits before the reason
I think they're referring to Billboard top 40, and if that's the parameter, then they didn't. Crawling In The Dark and Running Away did well on the Rock charts but both missed the top 40 over-all charts. Same Direction also only charted on the Rock charts so anyone who doesn't actively listen to rock won't know those songs, which is unfortunate. They're all better than The Reason.
Here's some food for thought: if one goes by the "Billboard Top 40" hits alone, then that would technically make Jimi Hendrix a one-hit wonder, because the only song of his to hit the "Billboard Top 40" was "All Along the Watchtower."
@@Mystress1980 Then why is Soulja Boy on the list?!
Hurricane Chris Just Listened To Playas Rock a few months ago at least he's still making music
I never thought of Vanessa Carlton as a one hit wonder because of White Houses and Ordinary Day being kinda big too
Yeah she was also featured on the Counting Crows hit cover of Big Yellow Taxi
You forgot the awesome group The Darkness going stronger than ever. And Justin Hawkins Rides Again is must see RUclips channel for everything in music.
Terry Crews= 1000miles
Great video, but that hoobastank line was just..."A perfect zinger!"
I have all the James Blunt albums...he's still good.
Ellie Goulding is secretly a clone of Donna Lewis so in a way that is also Donna Lewis' career
Omg they’re voiced do sound similar
@@jeffrienunez4557 They also look the same
i would go back to this music good old days .. not like today
Daniel powter and vanessa Carlton
Deserve a second chance
Y'all absolutely dropped Reel Big Fish... Ska will never die! **Skanks away***
Still cant believe they said Steve Lacey is a one hit wonder.
James Blunt is also a weird choice, the guy sold millions of albums and still tops the UK album charts, I mean putting him with ''tag team'' is a bit weird. There are more interesting and glaring choices that comes to my mind and make better cases of 1 hit wonders artists and still active,,,
Natalie Imbruglia - Torn , Wrong impression
Dido - Thank You
John Mayer - Gravity
Pretty Reckless - Makes me wanna die
And i need you, and i miss you, and now i wonder, if i could fall into the sky 🌙🌌🎶🎹
Please do marvel top ten daredevil villains
I think it's fair to say that the comments are a reflection of the fact that over time memories fade so that even very successful artists with lots of hits sometimes get their best remembered song played more often and so people who weren't around during their initial phase of success might think they only had the one hit. Soft Cell and James Blunt being prime examples. Also some people move on from one hit that they had with one outfit and have others MARRS being an example of that. So not really a one hit wonder in spite of the name changing.
Crawling in the dark was hoobastanks real banger and first hit.
