The first in what I hope to be a miniature documentary series on internet rabbit holes. This first one is about Digital Homicide Studios, a delusional two-man game studio and the insane actions they take when they can't handle criticism.

Aaaaaand they're banned for sueing 100 steam accounts.
According to some posters on their old FB account they are now operating under Loot Toot games. Seems possible since they have a generic penguin Ive seen on lousy Newgrounds flash games on their website.
EarlFaulk 2:17 seems to confirm that
I love how Valve stated that they stopped doing business with Digital Homicide due their hostility toward their customers.
What a perfect description.
"60 frames of copyright infringement a second" That's the most magnificent phrasing I've seen all day. I feel like they were trying to brag and accuse at the same time.
So when i record gameplay im violating copyright laws?
"60 frames per second of pure copyright infringement, buy now and we will up that to 200 frames of pure copyright infringement"
Humble brag!
I think it was a brag
Not like there games hit 60 frames
Quality content.
I have to disagree. "A bear chested harpie and an actual bear" can top it
"I'm definitely an adult"
sounds like something an adult would say
Exactly what went through my mind too.
If a tournament level pro fighting game player reviewed a new fighting game and rates it highly because of how balanced it is and how intricate the combos and counter system is, that review is of little use to an average player like me.
A person who doesn't play much fighting games reviewing the game to see if it is friendly to new-comers is more useful to me.
However, I play a lot of strategy games so an expert's review is more useful to me to see if the game is shallow or not.
All perspectives are useful to somebody.

It's so odd that people this damaged and delusional can even function. It must be hard for Romine to look in the mirror knowing he's screwing other people for profit...or maybe not.
This is..... pathetic. I can't even begin to comprehend how someone trying to cement themselves as a real game company when 90% of their "career" so far has been attacking a reviewer?

That is absolutely hilarious.
if you can't handle someone being critical of your art, you shouldn't publish your art.
He fucking blames the player instead of his shit game lol
Fully agreed.
I wouldn't even venture to call these guys real developers making "art". Let's just call them what they truly are: a couple of deluded, unscrupulous con men who tried to make a fast buck by any means and got so upset when some online game reviewer posed a possible threat to their profit margin that they unintentionally and singlehandedly screwed themselves over with every attempt to get even with him. They got dealt a permanent, career-finishing blow by the mighty merciless dick of karma and they only have their egos to blame (I guess you can blame, I mean thank, Sterling for that too). This saga couldn't have had a more satisfying ending.
...art
I agree! However, this isn't art...it's a cheapass video game!
What confuses me is:
When you look at their practices, you'd clearly say these guys are con-artists. They make crap, they know they make crap, they don't care, they only want the money.
On the other hand... they go into a huge battle and drama with famous internet-reviewer, and even started a legal battle which they simply had no chance to win. That's NOT what con-artists do.
So... are they just crazy? But... then they would really have to think that their "work" is worth something, and NOT a scam...
I just don't get it.
They're both very motivated and very delusional. It's a frequent combination of traits among assholes.
Maybe they were willing to give up all that shit as it is lol and try to win the case all or nothing
Uh, do you not know Uri Geller?
@@MetalArmaggedon It's not about being evil. What the developers are doing is 1. Actively Scamming a lot of people, especially younger people I would believe 2. Just a well known way to make a quick buck of of naive people. 3. Ruining the market and (potentially) crashing the market (this is almost exactly what happened with the video game crash in the 80's). Now I don't believe that this company could singlehandedly crash the market in this day and age, but why would you ever condone something that is just bad to the market in general, as well as very scummy?
A part of living in the free world is the free market, which you mention, but so is freedom of speech and not standing up to these guys and their toxic behaviour would be very stupid.
Do you honestly believe that they think their games are good? Do you think they actually believe that you can put out so many games in so little time without them being actual hot garbage? if so you are naive my friend :)
Happy New Year!
I believe they are just a certain kind of people who behave like this. Probably they do all this cus they are enraged, but also because they don't wanna lose face. The fact that they chose to go to court without an attorney shows you what kind of people they are. :) Im no Psychiatrist or anything but it honestly sound like they have SOME kind of mental disorder to me. you HAVE to be some kind of delusional and have a way inflated ego and delusion of grandieur to behave like this.
Thats just my personal opinion though.
Digital Homicide uploading Jim Sterling's videos and roasting him through on-screen text is unironically hilarious and brilliant. It's like some Adult Swim surreal late night skit or something.
It's also ironically hilarious, considering they kept accusing him of violating fair use by using gameplay footage while simultaneously using his video to attack him.
It reminds me of Blacktail, who does the same thing, with even less effort, but for military vehicles. I recommend turning the playback speed to at least 1.5x because those videos drag on.

I love how Ramine says that Sterling has a "responsibility to game devs" but he really doesn't. Ramine has a responsibility to create games worth playing but he doesn't even attempt and prefers to con people.
He does have a responsibility to game devs and to customers and he fulfils this responsibility by calling out cynical asset flips.
the crash of '83 was caused by companies like digital homicide where quality control was way below the number of copies they pumped out. I doubt that digital homicide could have the effect of bringing down the gaming market, but they can dilute the indi market. Wow, this unexpectedly blew up. Huge thanks to Jim Sterling for tweeting this out!
This was made in a huge rush; I did it in three days from conception to completion--that includes research, scriptwriting, voicing, and editing, and it's definitely a bit rough because of that.
People are pointing out a few inaccuracies. First, he does make money off of his videos; only the Jimquisition ones are funded through Patreon. Oops.
Second, while the case could still go to court, the research I did seems to say that has technically been dismissed, but Digital Homicide still has a chance to issue a rebuttal. As far as I can tell, they're on their second attempt to make the lawsuit coherent. I tried to make the gist of it somewhat clear in the video, but trying to explain everything that was going on would have been even more confusing. In short: my bad. I beg forgiveness from the Gods of Legal Jargon and Pedantry.
Anyways, hope you enjoy!
Edit: Also I call the interview a "review" at the end of the relevant segment. I'm convinced that some issues only appear after a video is viewed by a larger audience. I propose further quantum research into the spontaneous manifestation of errors.
Another Edit: I realize that in the last day or so, Digital Homicide has threatened litigation on a number of other people, and that a number of their Greenlight games have been torn down from Steam. Once more happens, I'll likely make a followup video.
It happens, man. It's like writing a book. You only notice the mistakes once you hit the Submit button.
Just do what Jim does when it comes to mistakes: blame Chip!
Given that I've actually published a book, I'm acutely aware of this phenomenon. It never goes away.
I knew I should have been wary of that "Chip" fella.
Oh cool, same here. *Published Author Bro-Fist*
As someone who publishes a lot of work like music and 3d art and even long-winded forum posts, i feel the exact same way. There are some errors you just cant see until everyone can see them too.
Exactly. I'm thinking of doing another video talking about what I got wrong and the stuff I had to gloss over in the interest of time, sort of like the "Lies" segment in Extra History. If I did, I'd probably call it "Biff."
"Possibly to draw in new viewers"
I don't think Jim is THAT underhanded. I honestly think he did it for archival reasons, because if there's one thing he's good at, it's saving shit people said and done to bring it up later, though he mostly does that with corporate executives within the "AAA" game industry.
TRIPLE AAAAIIIY INDUSTRY
I mean there's nothing wrong with trying to draw in a new audience with different content
Also Jim made a point to almost never mention DH for a year. Partly because the lawsuit was ongoing, but to point out that they destroyed their careers that year when he wasn't even talking about them. That was the year they tried to sue valve and make them fork over the personal details of over 100 users. And valve responded by banning them from steam.

Jim made a video basically summing up his experiences with Romine Bros. He listed everything he had accomplished since they started targeting him, then went on to demonstrate how they've become synonymous with terribly unethical business practices, been banned from Steam, and have gone bankrupt.
Jim honestly says he pities the brothers, which I do believe is true.
He almost did. He could very well have counterclaimed, but he said it wasn't worth it. James Romaine destroyed himself. He's down the rabbit hole, as it were and he will never fully climb back out. The reason why he backed out is because Sterling's attorney told him just what the logical outcome would be. He would lose far more than he would if he didn't grant a dismissal with prejudice. He did, but not before modifying the document without disclosure and trying to get him to sign it. Now that it's over, he will continue to show what happens when you don't give a shit, and there is nothing he can do about it. The dismissal even told Romaino or whatever (he thinks he was compared to the godfather... ok.) that if he ever wanted to issue a fair use takedown, he would need to consider his own corrupt business practices. Thank god for Jim Fucking Sterling Son.

"As a videogame reviewer, you must be a good videogame player!" This poor poor guy hasn't heard of Dean Takahashi, hasn't he?
Wild Freeze or polygon.
+Venitex GD with summons, I'd imagine.

Or arin Hanson
ImmaLittlePip hey now! Arin isnt bad at ALL games. :^)

“A bear-chested harpy”
Now, this I’ve gotta see!
When did you get here Chalmers?
I'm so happy I found your channel, came for the great, galloping video on Chris-chan and staying for everything else. Happy you're achieving so much success!
This is well made, competently edited. I don't know why I immediately noticed, but Jim's "Squirty Play" now calls itself "Jimpressions", not sure why I even nitpick here as this is a good video. I wish you well for the future.
Fantastic video mate, I can see this go viral, cause Jim just tweeted this out :D well done... on the other hand.. this video makes me really angry, I don't understand how these two idiots get away with it...
Cant believe I just discovered you and you’re done making videos for at least 3 years. Come back! Your vids are lovely
I love Jim sterling and I didn’t know all of this information! Supper pleased! Now subscribed! nice video quality! Best of luck on your RUclips career
Unity: Shit posting but for video games
DrawnToLove it’s much worse with assets for smart phone games.
Jim Sterling criticizes Scott Cawthon. Dude makes successful franchise. Sterling criticizes Digital Homicide, they ruin themselves.
Outstanding quality from the very beggining of this series, you shouldn't be surprised this blew up.
Hope your channel keeps growing both in viewership and content.
My god the quality editing, and audio everything done in this video is amazing and your voice sounds great love your videos keep making more
Hey. I enjoy your work because it's informative and well organized. I've even learned some things about people and games I already know and may or may not love! Just giving you the heads up on this because it's a thing everyone needs sometimes. Thanks.
WHOOPS! looks like there may be a part 2 to this now. XD my goodness.
Its wild to come back, I remember when this was new. It was back when I was watching jim sterling, and I knew nothing about you.
Now years later I still remember you and watch your videos, and you are making me remember jim sterling, who I'd forgotten. Was really something to see how he's changed...
An ammo counter should only be two inches below the crosshair when you play the game on a four inch screen.
Goddamnit. That Slaughtering Grounds music. I thought I had escaped that by now. Oh no...
ruclips.net/video/qMImR3-QUWE/видео.html
Fredrik Knudsen Oh no, what they have done! D:
4:10 Is the best part of the video, tell me what game is that, i need it
It's called "Le Fantabulous Game" if I'm not mistaken.
Ben Jackson yeah it's also gonna get a full fledged remake i'll try finding the link to the dev's channel
BINYOT
Look for Vinesauce - Vinny
Rob Evans the Donut Man
i listened to the offical podcast when you started on it and it was fire, it made me interested in your content, and buddy you got it
going back and watching his old videos I noticed something he speaks slower now.
IT is also amazing to see how far is content has come and realised that it has been almost 4 years since.
This is such a direct contrast to how Scott Cawthon responded to Jim Sterling’s critique of Chipper and Sons Lumber Co. Scott took that as motivation to create FNAF, one of the most successful indie game series of all time.
was it jim sterling who leveled the critique that led to scott?
Im a gamedeveloper myself and part of a 3700 Members big Slack group of other developers and i wanna make a thing clear here: If you review our games do it on a neutral perspective. If there is an error in a public release then obviously that is something you should mention aswell as the good things that work. A proper review is not bound to "developer friendly" actions.
Jim sterling is making great reviews and manages it to give the rest to the single customers opinion. On that way both sites can profit and learn.
Thanks for this Video, i will retweet it and like it ofc. :)
Glad to see this channel getting big. This is the go to video if anyone wants to learn about Sterling v DHS. I know there's a follow up video as well but maybe sometime in the future you could make another follow up on the brothers and where they are now? I'd love to see how low they're sunk and if they've tried any more scams regarding lazy and deceitful practices. Thank you.
first video ? wow amazing its like you were born for this keep it up !!!
